Open PDF in a specific location

I want to open a PDF file from a chm file generated in RoboHELP in a specific location.

Timothy,
Plz read the thread on named destinations,
Gloria Mc, "Linking to within a PDF using named destinations" #1, 24 Aug 2007 1:08 pm. This thread contains info on how to create named destinations in your PDF file, and then link to them with a hyperlink (or from a command line). Also various issues w/named destinations are discussed.
You don't say what version of software you have; that would be helpful, as named destinations work in some versions and not others. Also operating system that this will be expected to work on would be good to know.
In addition to the forum thread, read one of the documents "Parameters for Opening PDF Files." The one for 8.1 is located at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf.
If you have the correct version of Acrobat, the PDF is on a Web server, and the issues in the forum thread are addressed, you should be able to include a hyperlink to the PDF in your .chm file (which resides on someone's computer, not the Web server).

  • After upgrading to any version after 11.0.06 we are experiencing grey screen / empty window with opening .PDF's from network locations.

While using Onbase, we have a custom app that will call an attached .pdf ( from a network share) and open it within a separate IE window/ process, since upgrading beyond 11.0.06 ( 11.0.07, 11.0.08 and 11.0.09) we have are starting to experience grey screens and 103:103errors after letting the window sit for <2:00 minutes. We have tested all version of reader beyond 11.0.06 and have experienced the same results. We have added the network location to the whitelist and have it listed as a trusted location. We have also tested in IE 8 and 10 with all current cumulative Microsoft patches for IE, and still no luck. If we put 11.0.06 back on the machine the issue is no longer present.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions to correct this issue in the current 11.0.09 version?

    Please try following steps:
    1. Open Reader.
    2. Go to Edit -> Preferences.
    3. Select category - Enhanced (Security)
4, Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Start up" option.

  • How do you open mail in a specific location on desktop as default?

Sometimes mail does this, and sometimes it doesn't. I can figure out why or how. I want to open a new mail (that I am writing)that is about 4x4 on the upper left as a default. How do I do this?

    Try this:
    Start Mail.
Create a new message. (Send it to yourself, if it's not convenient to send a 'real' one).
Drag the new message box to the size and location where you want it to appear in the future.
    Send it.
    Quit Mail.
    Start Mail.
    Create a new message.
The new message should be the size and in the location you placed it.
(Not a long-term test, but I tried it three times in a row, and it was in the exact location, and the exact size I selected the previous time each time I restarted Mail.)

If the newly opened file is a PDF, you should use a "Go to page view" type
link, not an "Open file" action.

  • Open PDF at specific bookmarks

I have a newsletter posted on our website as PDF. Want HTML email to go out to subscribers containing intro paragraphs of each article, click the appropriate link to the web page, and then Open PDF at the text in the article. I have everything bookmarked in the PDF article but can't find info on how to control location of opening of document based on a condition; only (under Document Properties) the ability to ALWAYS open to any page, magnification, open w/ bookmarks panel open, etc. If not built into Acrobat, is there either a way to:
pass a parameter to Acrobat to open to a specific page or bookmark?
run a script to control this function?
any another way to do this?
I am using Acrobat 6.0 but willing to buy 8.0 if it has this needed capability.
    Thanks in advance,

Found the answer to my question! The article linked below explained PDF Open Parameters. I created a named destination in my pdf and then added #nameddest=name of destination to the end of my URL.

  • How do I open a PDF to a specific page via the command line?

Several questions about opening PDFs from the Mac OS X command line:
    1) How do I use the "open" command to open a PDF to a specific page? (I know I can open a document via: open doc_name.pdf)
    2) How do I use the "open" command to pass multiple arguments (page no, zoom scale, view mode, etc...) to open a PDF file in a specific manner?
    3) Does Preview handle the same parameters as Acrobat Reader? If not, what are the differences in options?
I've spent hours searching for this answer and have come up dry. I've downloaded Adobe's "PDF Open Parameters" document -- it lists all of the parameters I need, however I can't get any of them to work from the command line.
My goal: Open a PDF from the command line to a specific page. At first glance, I thought this would be simple to do and find -- however, after a lot of searching I haven't found an example on how to do it.
Anyone have any experience doing this, and care to share?
    Much appreciated! ---> Kelsey

I don't know of any way to do what you want using the 'open' command. It can probably be done with Applescript, which you could call from a shell script. The Preview application doesn't seem to be scriptable. I don't use Acrobat, so I can't tell you anything about that. Looking through the dictionaries of the apps I do have, it seems that Skim (another PDF viewer) has an AS 'page' class. Below are a couple of links that may get you started. Look for more specific guidance in Applescript forums.

  • Setting a way to open a PDF to a specific section from HTML?

I currently use InDesign CS4 to create technical manuals. And I have the latest Acrobat.
We now want to create context-sensitive help from the same content. One way would be to export the content to XHTML. But I think I'd get better looking results if I could get the HTML to open the PDF to a named location in the PDF. For example, I'd like to add a tag called "Feature X" in InDesign that is retained when the PDF is generated, and then be able to add something like <src="mydoc.pdf" openAt="Feature X"> in the HTML. Then I'd hope to see mydoc.PDF open to the location of that tag (and not to page 1).
Is such a capability available in inDesign? And if not in InDesign, then can the tag be added in Acrobat?
Even if I cannot do this with a named tag, is there any way for HTML to open a PDF to a specified page? And can this be set up in InDesign so that I don't lose the location every time I generate an updated PDF?
    Thanks for any help,
    John

In the PDF, create a distination, you can then add a parameter to the HTML link to the PDF to open the named destination.

  • How do you open a PDF to a specific page number in Safari 8.0?

I'm using the command #page=33 to try to force Safari to open a PDF to a specific page number. While this works fine on just about every website browser, it doesn't seem to work in Safari. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

The problem is most likely with the Safari PDF plugin, which doesn't process the open parameters correctly. To be fair, though, this is not a part of the PDF ISO specification but something that Adobe implemented on their own in their PDF plugins, so other applications are not obliged to follow it.
If you switch to using the Adobe plugin then it should work, even in Safari.

  • Open PDF document to a specific page via a

I know if you can open a PDF to a specific page by using the PAGE parameter when you open via ACROBAT. I want to be able to do the same thing via the anchor tag &lt;a&gt;. How can you do it?
For example, I have html in my region source:
Refer to the <b><a href="javascript:popUp2('#APP_IMAGES#FD User Guide.pdf')">System User Guide</a></b> on how to use all the features ...I also have it in URL target of a list region:
javascript:popUp2('#APP_IMAGES#FD User Guide.pdf')The customer wants to be able the user to go automatically to page 53, for example.
    Can someone please help ASAP?

    All,
I found my answer. You just need to append "page=+page_number+* to the filename.

  • Do all versions of Adobe support opening a PDF to a specific page?

I am looking to append a url with "#page=x" in order to open a PDF to a specific page. Do all versions of Adobe support this functionality?

Well, we first have to define what we mean by Adobe.
Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat do, not in all versions but in recent versions (the last decade or so).
It works only in certain browsers, and only if the PDF is opened in the browser window NOT downloaded or opened separately.
I assume you are aware that there are many non-Adobe PDF viewers (e.g. those built into Chrome, FireFox, Safari, and IE on Windows 8); each will have their own idea of what to do.
