Open pdf in safari

Lately, I cannot open a pdf page in Safari. Does anyone here know how to explain and solve this problem? Gotten to the point where I need to use Chrome to do this.

Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and pressreturn:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Preview will no longer open PDFs in Safari

    Hello Everyone,
Lately, when I open links PDFs, they will not open in Safari (only a blank page). I have to control click the link to download the file, but I want it to go back to normal by opening within my Safari browser.
I used to have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 on my computer, but have since uninstalled it because of its slow response in opening files. I also had Acrobat Writer 5 on my machine at one point and was fairly happy with its performance when I needed it, but in an effort to fix my problem with PDFs not opening in Safari, I uninstalled it too.
In the beginning, I was very careful to not allow Acrobat not be default, but I think one of my co-workers used my machine and said yes to Acorbat's annoying message to make it default. Since then I am stuck with this issue. In any case, I used AppZapper to remove both Reader 7 and Writer 5 thinking my computer would be forced back into using Preview.
After that did not work, I tried deleting the preferences in my User library, but that has not worked either. I also tried a tip in Terminal to make the file at least download like they used to do pre-Tiger... No use either.
Does anyone know how I can reset my preferences for PDF links online to open in my Safari browser? I have already set Preview to be default on already downloaded files.
Also, I coped with the Ctrl-Click way for some time, but now i have a pdf link in an email and the file will not download that way. Hence I want it to work the way it did out of the box.
    Please help.

You wrote: "No, by my I meant my Home > Library > Internet Plug-Ins folder. I double-checked and it is empty."Well, that's not the correct folder. Again, the Adobe plug-in would be in the Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins folder.
    2. You wrote: "Ok, assuming I did uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader incorrectly, how can I go about fixing that? Do I reinstall it and reuninstall?"You can try the instructions in the Adobe KB document "Manually remove Acrobat (6.x and 7.x on Mac OS X)", which states it also addresses Adobe Reader. Unfortunately, they appear incomplete since they also omit the plug-in I discussed. Also, the steps for using Find under the heading "On Mac OS X v10.4.x" are flawed because step "g" does not work due to a design feature/bug of Spotlight, in which Find is implemented under Tiger. Essentially, the issue is that the Visible/Invisible search criterion does not work.
At the worst, if the problem remains thereafter, you may have to reinstall Mac OS X via Archive and Install.
    Good luck!

  • Open pdf in safari using: ACROBAT 9 PRO

    Hi,
I am using safari 4.0.3 and Acrobat Pro 9 10.4.3. When I click a pdf file in safari, it opened with it default pdf viewer. However, I want to use acrobat to view pdf (in safari).
Here are the solutions I've tried:
    1 Acrobat->Preference-> Internet->Display PDF in browser using-> Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.3
2 Acrobat->Help->Repair Acrobat Installation->adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin->Continue then it says successfully installed
    3 Safari->Help->Installed Plug-ins. I can NOT find acrobat/pdf plugin
    4 Library/Internet Plug-Ins: I CAN find AdobePDFViewer.pugin
    5 Users/My name/LIbrary/Internet Plug-Ins: I CAN ALSO find AdobePDFViewer.pugin
6 When I open a pdf on my computer, it runs Acrobat 9
    NONE OF THESE ABove WORKS.
Could anyone please give me some suggestions?

I would guess that Acrobat Pro isn't compatible with Safri 4.0.3 yet, and perhaps even 10.6, but only Adobe really knows, so you'd be better off asking them. If it's not, I'm sure they'll release a patch or update of some kind after 10.6 ships.
If I were you, I'd uninstall the portion of Acrobat that normally works with Safari to render PDF files and use the built-in rendering abilit of Safari itself. Not only is that simpler, but Acrobat Pro is a huge memory hog.

  • How to open PDFs in Safari 8.0

Been frustrated for a couple days now. Up until mid last week, I've been able to open PDFs inside the safari browser no problem.  I think this ended up changing in the latest Yosemite update.  Opening PDFs inside the safari window, not in a different tab is particularly crucial for my job, I use an agent webportal that requires PDFs to be filled out inside the browser window and submitted as such.
I've had this happen a few times, usually it was fixed by deleting the adobe plugins in the internet plugins folder and/or simply resetting the safari browser back to default. What I've tried so far:
uninstalling/reinstalling both reader and acrobat multiple times.
deleting the plugins from the internet folder multiple times.
tried switching up the default pdf view app, no change.
tried as best as i could find to reset the settings on safari, but inside yosemite there appears to not be a reset option to bring it back to default.
Honestly I'm at my wits end here with this thing. I've been using VMWare and windows 7 to complete the stuff I can't do in safari on IE.
Is there something I haven't tried and/or does anyone know how to fully reset safari back to default in yosemite?

  • Cannot Open PDF in Safari

    Can someone please help.
    I cannot open PDF files through Safari. I've read some of the other comments on the same/similar issue and I have tried those steps and have been unsuccessful. I still cannot view PDF files through Safari, in fact, the Preview doesn't even open. When it worked the preview icon would pop up in the tool bar at the bottom of my Mac Book, but it no longer does that. Here is what I've tried;
Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac.
Removed Adobe from applications and deleted.
Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder.
Went to internet preferences and un clicked enable plug ins.
Not quite sure what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

    Hi Roxana ..
Which Mac OS X do you have installed and which version of Safari ??
Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac.
You do if you want to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF files.
Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder.
There are two libraries. One is root  /Library
The other denotes your Home folder   ~/Library  (the Tilde character represents your Home folder)
    Go to  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
If you see the Adobe PDF browser plugin or just PDF Browser plugin, move that to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari. Try a PDF file.

  • Preview won't open PDFs from Safari

If I try to open a PDF from Safari in Preview, the Preview icon just bounces in the dock. However, if I open a PDF that is already on my computer Preview opens with no issues.
Also, I can't get PDFs to download from Safari.
I checked settings and did a few searches but I found nothing. Have suggestions?

With Safari open click on 'Help' at the top of the screen.
Then click on installed plugins. Look for adobe or acrobat.
It may be that with safari, it is not trying to use preview?
    Just a guess.

  • How to open PDF using safari 5.1

Please help. My internet browser (safari 5.xx) used to be able to open PDF files using the preview program. After I updated to Safari 5.1 it does not open it anymore in a safary window, instead every single pdf file gets downloaded. I tried the genreal fix of removing the adobe plug-in from the Mac HD -> Library -> internet plug ins file but it did not help. I would need Acrobat reader on my computer but I would like to use the preview program to view PDF files on-line. Please help  (It is a huge pain to delete every single PDF after I looked at it...)
Under the USer -> Library-> internet plug ins folder there is nothing it appears empty.
So any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Just to add to the annoyment. After trashing the Adobe reader 10.1 version and hoping that now everything went back to the original working order -- wrong. Now when I click on a PDF document, which used to open up till now in a new window, is simply getting downloaded and the new wndow remains blank... Maddening.
    Please sombody help.
    thanks

  • Downloaded Adobe Reader, now can't open PDFs in Safari

I was forced to download Adobe Reader to view and print something and then promptly deleted it. The app, the dmg, and the AdobePDFViewer.plugin from my library are now all gone. Nothing remains of them on my computer. Now, ever since that download, I get the screen below when I try to view a pdf in Safari.
I have searched all over the net, like I always do before bugging all of you, but still can't fix it.
    1- I can't read it
2-What do I have to do to get pdfs to open in Safari like they did before I installed Reader?
Spec (Exact same as before Reader download):
    Safari 6.1.1
    OSX 10.8.5
    Thank you!

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • I can`t open PDF in Safari

I can't open PDF's in a browser window. It's like the plug-in is not there. I have Acrobat 9 pro. I've been using Safari. Help me.

    Hi,
I had the same problem---contacted Adobe and their service rep helped me by
Deleting Adobe Reader from my iMac's Applications in Finder and delete Adobe Reader Plug In (Finder-Home-Library-Internet Plug Ins---Adobe Reader plug In)
    and restart your safari.

  • Cant open PDF in Safari 5

When I click on a pdf file, safari opens a new tab, then launches acrobat and open the pdf in acrobat.
I NEED to be able to view the PDF's in safari.

    THanks

    Hi John,
    Quit Safari.
Try this. Find a PDF file you already have on the hard drive, then right or control click the file then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the pop up menu next to: Open with. Choose Preview.
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Can't open PDFs in Safari

When I try to open a PDF in Safari, my computer can't find the application. I used to be able to do it automatically. I even reinstalled Adobe PDF app.. What should I do?
    Allan
PS I know Safari isn't popular anymore, but I still really like to use it.

You may have to select the item type you want to be able to open
with Adobe Reader (acrobat reader) and choose Get Info from Finder,
then use the selection option there, to have Adobe open all like it.
There should be a way to have Safari open any PDF and it would
choose between the System's Preview - or - Adobe Reader, if you
set it to do so. I don't have any browser set to open any files.
They are set to download to the desktop and I run them offline.
(But, a few web pages are live pdf items and the browser will
run them inside a browser window, on occasion. These don't
like to download when they are uploaded, without extra trouble.)
You should be able to tell Safari in its preferences, what to do
with a file type; whether to open it or save it to desktop. And
since I don't use Safari (but have it upgraded, anyway) I don't
recall the steps and places to look to change those preferences.
My computers have four browsers each; and they are updated.
If the version of a browser is old and a security risk, you may
wish to see if there is a newer version or newer browser instead.
If you have general system issues, you may wish to see about
the basics, if they have not been done recently; I'd try to see if
starting up in SafeBoot, running Disk Utility's 'repair disk permis-
sions' then quit that utility, & restart normally. This may help.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Safari hijacked by Adobe Reader - cant open pdfs from Safari

I would greatly appreciate any help cant seem to find this exact problem elsewhere.
I have a Macpro (new tower) running  10.9.4
A few days ago I received an email from a trusted friend which included a link. I followed the link which asked me to download Adobe Reader which i foolishly did. Since then when I try to open a PDF from Safari I get the following message "Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User Licence Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser"
Please note I can still open PDFs from the Finder and other browser's (e.g. Opera) also allow me to download
I went to the Adobe site and downloaded Reader but it wont let me complete the installation. I fear my Mac has been infected by a trojan etc and can't seem to find out how to get around this.
    So far I have tried
    1) went to /Library/Internet Plug-ins - but nothing there
    2) reinstall of Mavericks
Any help appreciated. I suppose a clean reinstall would help but don't want to do that just yet

    Open a Finder Window.
Click on the Go in the menu bar.
Press on option on the keyboard, "Library" will appear. Click on that.
In the new Finder Window that it opens up, or the one that you have opened already. It'll show that particular folder. In that folder is Internet Plug-ins.
Check to see if Adobe is in there. If so, delete it and reboot.
I honestly thought it was in the same folder that you tried, but I don't remember at the moment. So my instructions are just a shot in the dark.

  • Adobe 10.1.3 fails to open pdf in Safari 5.1.5

    All,
After updating Adobe Reader to 10.1.3, anytime I try to ope a pdf file in Safari 5.1.5, I get the following window:
    http://msemac.redwoods.edu/~darnold/adobecap.tiff
    What is happening?
    David

    Hi David,
Please note that if you are using OS X 10.6.x, then you'll need to run Safari in 64Bit mode. You can do the same by
    1. Go to Applications, Command+Click on Safari to open the Context menu.
    2. Now click on Get Info
    3. From the new window that appears, Uncheck "Open in 32-bit mode".
This is because on OS X 10.6.8, Safari 5.1 in 32-bit mode is not supported. Refer to release notes for more details about systems requirements changes.
If above information was not helpful,
Please let us know your OS version and whether this issue happens with all PDF files or with any specific file?
Also try to "Reload" the PDF in safari when grey window appears by pressing "Command + R"?
