  • How can I open a Numbers file to the last cell used on from the previous saving of that file?

In Excel, the .xls file would always open on the the cell location where the file was previously saved.  Very nice to have feature when the file is long ,so one does not have to keep scrolling down the page to make the next entry every time the file is opened.
Can Numbers do this?  I can't find an option for it.
After opening a file, I must always scroll down to the last entry or where I want to start inputting data.  What a pain.
Is there a way to open a numbers file to where one was located when it was previously saved?
    Anybody know?  Please help.
    Thanks

    CF,
When I Save a Numbers document with a cell Selected and then close the document, the same cell is still selected when I reopen the document. Isn't that what you are asking for? Furthermore, if I have chosen 100% zoom scale, the selected cell is displayed in the same screen position as when it was last saved. What you may be seeing that you don't care for is that if the zoom is other than 100% the table's position in the display window may be different than at the last Save.

  • Can't Open Pages, Numbers or Keynote through iCloud on my PC

Went to my PC this morning and logged into iCloud. I noticed a new ICON for iCloud Drive. Never saw it before. I tried to open Pages to update a document and couldn't open Pages, Numbers or Keynote. I was greeted with the picture below.Without any warning Apple is telling me if I want to ever see these documents again on my PC I must update all my devices to IOS 8 immediately and then activate iCloud Drive on all devices. Not something I wanted to see on a day I needed my presentations for a client. How can we ever trust Apple again with significant documents? Have any of you experienced this?

For those of you who woke up this morning and tried to access Pages, Numbers or Keynote on your PC running Windows XP. Sorry the party is over and it ended without warning from Apple.
Here is an update just confirmed by an Apple Senior Advisor.
This is what Apple did without warning.
    1. Took Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents and moved them to iCloud Drive making them NO LONGER AVAILABLE on a PC just by logging into iCloud.com.
    2. Gave us an option to view them on a PC only after you upgrade all your devices that use those apps to IOS 8.
    3. You then must activate iCloud drive on your devices and PC but only if you are not running WINDOWS XP because iCloud Drive is not supported on a PC running XP.
Conclusion, if you have a PC running WINDOWS XP hurray up and purchase WINDOWS 8 and upgrade your PC, then upgrade all your iDevices to IOS 8 then activate iCloud Drive and you may be able to once again see your documents on a PC. I don't know who will pay you for the day off to do all this but that's not Apples concern. They are to busy hyping the new iPhone to worry about keeping you in business. It's only their business that counts.

  • Need help to Open my Numbers worksheets!

I am trying to open a Numbers Worksheet that I worked on as recent as two days ago and a box pops up and it says that I have to have the newer version of Numbers to open it. When I click on the newest version of Numbers in the App Store, it says that I have already installed it. Help!

Make sure you are trying to open the document with the version of Numbers that is in your main Applications folder, not the version of Numbers that is in a subfolder named iWork '09.
It is likely that any icons you have on your dock are still pointing to the old version. So, even though you think you ae using the new version, actually you activating the old version.
The old and new Numbers can coexist happily on your Mac.  You just need to take care that you are using the correct version to open any particular document.

  • HT202879 I have latest version of Numbers (3.1) but when I try to open a Numbers sp. sheet it says I need a newer version.

Numbers sp sheet is shared. Both user systems on same rev of Numbers.
I have latest version of Numbers (3.1) but when I try to open a Numbers sp. sheet it says I need a newer version. There is no newer version available.
The files get info box says to open it with Numbers 3.1 (default).  Other user has no problem opening the file.
    What to do next?

    Hi mwalk,
    Try this.
    Launchpad (second page) Disk Utility
Or if you can't find it there,
Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > Storage > Disc Utility
Select Macintosh HD and Repair Permissions.

  • XLS Files created by SSRS will not open in Numbers on the iPad

The company I work for creates business intelligence reports which are used in an education environment and are created daily and e-mailed out to staff.  These reports contain fairly simple tables with pupil data.
One customer uses iPads extensively to maximise the quick response to this (behaviour) data.  There is an issue which seems to be prevalent in newer versions of Numbers where these documents can not be opened.  I note a previous discussion on this matter where the only solution was to save the file in excel and then the sheets would open.  This is not really an option here.
I presume that there is some data missing in the header of the XLS file or something but if anyone has any information on this, especially if I can adapt the report in any way to include this data, please let me know if you have overcome a similar issue and how you went about it.
    Thanks,
    Pete H

Hi - thank you for your responses.  I don't have an iPad so testing is all being done on site.
The report is based on three tabs, each producing a basic table with data in.  I can create the reports in CSV and they work fine although the format is all wrong (no tabs etc etc) - but that would lead me to believe that it is nothing in the actual data which is causing the load error.  It also seems fairly intermittent, so I tested with a few different file sizes to make sure it wasn't this - and again nothing too conclusive there.
I presume quicklook is the built in function to view a file, I spotted this today but again it won't open in that or then again when asked to open in Numbers.
Hunting around this forum it seems there is some issue in general with opening some XLS files (especially ones created by SSRS) depending on iOS version, so that is the route I will be looking at tomorrow.  Putting these files through a save loop in excel isn't really an option, so I am going to test with a go between e-mail tomorrow which has in some cases seemed to do the trick - maybe appending something to the original file.  Some other posts have suggested that an XLSX file seems to work a lot better and that is supported in MS SQL 2012 which is on the way for our customers at some point.
    Definitely an awkward one!
    Thanks,
    Pete

  • I can no longer open a Numbers spreadsheet.

I have a Numbers spreasheet that I use all the time, in fact even earlier today. But when I try to open it now, I get an alert that says: "2013 Current status" can't be opened.
The file started out years ago as a Numbers 2 file. Recently I upgraded to Mavericks a few weeks ago and upgraded Numbers to Version 3.0.
I've been using this file with no problems since the upgrades.
I started walking through my backups and found a version from about 10 days ago that I can open in Numbers 3. None of the intervening versions can be opend in Numbers 3 anymore.
I did a Get Info on the file and I can see its preview and it looks like I expect and even a preview with cmd+space shows me the first page as I left it.
If I drop the file on iWork 2.3 I get what I would expect, an alert telling me I need a newer version of numbers to open it.
So, I had an old Numbers file, I opened it and used it with no problems in Numbers 3 for a while, and now I can't open it.
Does anyone know what I might try?

    Hi Rick,
Sometimes you see problems like that if the document is stored in Dropbox, which so far doesn't play nicely with Numbers 3 documents.  If it does happen to be in Dropbox try moving it elsewhere.
You also sometimes see that if you have it in iCloud and are syncing with other Macs or with iOS devices and a sync "conflict" didn't resolve properly (i.e. it wasn't closed on one machine and was changed on another).
If you have the document in iCloud (which with Numbers 3 is now a good option) then on your Mac you may be able to recover it via Finder by holding down the option key and in the menu Go > Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers.
Also, if you haven't already, it may help to update to Numbers 3.0.1 (released yesterday).  It is supposed to have squashed some bugs.
My experience with 3.0 is a little different from Jerry's. It was clearly a rushed product. But I don't have a lot of complex legacy Numbers spreadsheets that would get messed up on import (which seems pretty buggy) and generally find that simple and clear (not simplistic) spreadsheets more often than not are the most effective spreadsheets. I like the fact that many "nice but not necessary" features no longer clutter up the interface and make syncing a nightmare, and that Apple will reinstate some really crucial ones. And the fact that Numbers finally works well on mobile, a big productivity enhancement (think data entry) that MS can't match (yet).

  • I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Is there Apple software that will work on the notebook allowing me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents that I've placed in Dropbox?

I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word  (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox?  I hope not!!

If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.

  • How can i open a numbers '08 file in the newest 3.5 version?

I need to open several numbers files that were created in Numbers '08 v 1.0.3.  My computer only has v 3.5 of Numbers and when I attempt to open it tells me to save them as Numbers 09 but I can't even open the files to resave them.

    Hi v_burges,
You need to get your hands on a copy of Numbers '09. Some people have had success talking to Apple and they have sent them a disk. I found a free copy as a thirty day trial that worked fine for me. Do a quick search and you will be done.

    Hi beverly,
Stuck how? Are you still in the print screen? If yes click "Done".
Have you tried quitting Numbers? Restarting your Mac?
    Oh, and don't panic.

  • Suddenly, all my saved Excel Worksheets are opening as Numbers documents, even though I've NEVER used the Numbers application, and even though the documents continue to be identified as Excel documents--losing years of work.  What happened?

How can I uninstall Numbers?  I've never used the Numbers application before, and suddenly all my saved Excel Worksheets are opening as Numbers documents, even though they continue to be identified as Excel documents?  I'm losing years of work.

Right click on a Excel Worksheet file, choose 'Get Info'. In the small window that opens change the 'Open with:' from Numbers to Excel. Click on 'Change All…'

  • I can´t open a numbers document.

    Hello,
I have a problem. I created a numbers document one month ago. Yesterday I wanted to open it again and the mac says, I need a new version. So I updated the version. But still I can´t open it because anytime I want to open the document it says, that I need a new version.
Can somebody please help me with this problem?
    Thank you

    Hi Kerstin,
If you are running Numbers for Mac with OS X Mavericks, the update to Numbers 3 did not replace Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09)
Numbers 2.3 has been moved to a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. It works as well as it always did. The icon on your Dock was not replaced. It continues to point to the older version of Numbers.
Numbers 3 is in your Applications folder (not in a sub folder). Drag the icon to your Dock. It will become an alias. Right click (or control click) on it and Options > Keep in Dock.
With icons for both versions on your Dock, you can choose which to open.
Numbers 2 on the left (3 column chart).
Numbers 3 on the right (4 column chart).
Both versions will run happily at the same time if you wish. Just be sure which version is opening your document.
You can revert a document that Numbers 3 has 'stolen' with Menu > File > Export To > Numbers '09.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Numbers won't open a Numbers doc downloaded from iCloud

I just downloaded a Numbers document I created on my iPad2. When I try to open it, Numbers does one of two things:
    1) It displays the opening progress bar but then doesn't open a window (even though the file is shown in the Windows menu). The minimise and zoom options don't work.
    2) It opens the file and shows a skeleton window that can't be closed.
Both scenarios result in me having to quit Numbers before it wil do anything.
If I download the file in Excel format, Excel and Numbers will open the file but if I do that, I lose all of the Numbers sheet properties (headers, etc.).
I'm on the latest version of Lion (10.7.3), I deleted and reinstalled Numbers from the App store which made no difference.
The spreadsheet is very simple: 2 sheets, with less than 100 rows each.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem that you described in your original post.
I changed the "Currency" cells to "Number" cells and like you said, it works! Odd. I hope this is resolved soon. The sheet that I changed is a sheet for my finances, so it would be nice to have with currency symbols.
    Cheers.

  • How do I open a Numbers file sent to me that has been converted to Excel?  I already have MS Office for Mac.Ow

How do I open a Numbers file sent to me that has been converted to Excel?  I already have MS office for Mac, but nothing comes up when I click on the imported file.

If it indeed has been converted from Numbers to Excel, it will have a .xlsx suffix at the end of the name. Do a Get Info on the file if the suffix doesn't show. Else, it may still be in Numbers format and be unreadable by Excel.
If it is in the right format, and you don't want to have to do what mende1 has instructed above for every successive file, click on the "Always open with..." option. That will associate the .xlsx suffix to Excel from thereon.

  • Excel opens when i command a .csv file to open with numbers. How can i get numbers to be my default application?

I am sharing a Macbook Pro with my girlfriend. She runs Microsoft Office Excel for her work and I perfer Numbers in my work. Logged into my user account, I command an email attachment (.csv) to open with numbers. Excel launches every time. I can open numbers first. Excel still launches and opens the .csv document. i tried to trash the excel in my user account, no go. any suggestions?

    Hi joric,
In Finder, right click or control click on the document and Open With > Numbers.  You may have to navigate from Other...
    Or, a permanent solution:
In Finder, click once on a .csv document to select it. Get Info (command i) Towards the bottom of that info window, is Open With. It probably shows Excel. Change it to Numbers. Again, you may have to navigate from Other... Then click on Change All.
I can open numbers first. Excel still launches and opens the .csv document.
Are you opening from within Numbers (File > Open)?
    Regards,
    Ian.
