Open project hanging

Hi,
I have a AE project. I want to render it and tried to open it in Adobe Media Encoder 5.5. But the dialoge box just hangs after connecting to the dynamic link server. Then I tried to open the project again in AE, but it also hangs when trying to open it. Just 1% and AE stops responding. Can anyone help me out?
Thank you

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I tried clearing cache and database in both AE and in the Media Encoder. Did not help...
When I try to import the project in an empty project, I get the same hanging dialogue box.
Any other ideas?
Thank you

  • Unable to open project - hangs at 'loading saved thumbnails'

    1. I save a 30 minute project to my local disk and shut down iMovie HD.
    2. I re-installed iMovie HD (because the help subsystem was not working for some reason).
    3. I launched the newly installed iMovie and it automatically tried to load my project. When it reaches 'loading saved thumbnails' it hangs and I have to Force Quit.
    4. I removed the iMovie plist and relaunched iMovie and started a New Project. When it reaches 'loading saved thumbnails' it hangs and I have to Force Quit.
Any ideas as to what is going on?

14GB is at the margin of what may be needed. 20GB is better.
Your original iMovie project may have become corrupt.
The following is from David Pogue's 'iMovie 6 & iDVD 6 - The Missing Manual' which I think is the best handbook for these applications you can get. It is readily obtainable from Amazon.
David Pogue writes (on page 471):
At some random moment when you least expect it, some iMovie project that you worked on for days or weeks refuses to open. The odds of project corruption in iMovie 6 are lower than in any previous version, but if it happens there is little consolation.
If the worst should happen, you may be able to rescue the project by importing its timeline movie to a new, fresh iMovie project file.
The modern iMovie 'document' is in fact a tricky kind of folder. To open it, Control-click (or right-click) the project's Finder icon; from the shortcut menu, choose Show Package Contents. In the window that opens, double-click the Cache icon. Inside you will see an icon called Timeline Movie.
The Timeline Movie is a reference movie. That is, it contains no video or audio of its own - just pointers to the video and audio files stored in the package's Media folder. If those files are intact, then the reference movie will play the project just as iMovie did.
Create a new iMovie project, and then drag the Timeline Movie.mov icon from the Finder window right into the Timeline Viewer of the new project.
Now, the resulting movie will contain all the original movie project, but you should be aware that it will show up in the new project as a single, giant clip. You won't be able to edit the titles and transitions, but at least everything will play in the proper order.
Worth a try don't you think? Post back with results!

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.3 hangs when opening project from JDeveloper 11.1.1.6

Hello! I have a problem here which I can't solve. I also asked this question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14365031/jdeveloper-11-1-2-3-hangs-when-opening-project-from-jdeveloper-11-1-1-6/14369211#14369211 . The whole story in short. I have a JavaEE client-server project in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, where it works like a charm. Recently I had to upgrade JDeveloper version to the latest 11.1.2.3. The first problem was that the standard procedure of migrating project from the older version of JDeveloper to the newer one did not help: IDE was hanging forever all the time with no apparent (for me) reason, log file was silent about that. Then I tried another way: I just created the same project from the beginning and put there all necessary source files, libraries, set project properties etc. Still nothing, but now found the way to obtain a kind of error at least. I ran C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe from the command line and got the following (e.g. when I started running debug):
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:09 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:10 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
But I don't know what could be the next step... Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance for your attention!

    Hi,
not sure if you have a support contract or work for Oracle. In both cases the best option is to file a bug (service request)

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC does not open project - just hangs, no error message

I've just finished editing a project in PP CC, saved it, then tried to reopen it and the program shows a blank page, then hangs.  I get no error message.
The project is based off a PP 5.5 timeline.  It updates fine (and in fact I can open and convert the original timeline with no problem).  However, once I close the new version and try to reopen, this symptom occurs.
I have updated my Creative Cloud software and it shows the Premiere Pro is up to date.
My computer is an ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro
    i5 processor
    8GB RAM
    NVidea Geforce 610M+2GB graphics card
Need help as I have to have this project output and uploaded by 8am tomorrow.

This is a follow up to my original post and follow up.  I've now seen this issue several more times and realize it was not an issue with my USB drive.  It is an issue with the Dynamic Linking in Premiere.  I consider this a MAJOR BUG, so please note what I've found if you have an issue with archiving or opening projects done with previous versions of PP.
The issue I've found is that Premiere seems to lock up trying to find dead media links.  If you've archived a project or moved files from their original position, Premiere CC cannot seem to find them.  The result is not a system hang up, but just a blank screen.  In some cases, after leaving it for a couple hours it found the media and continued.
I've had a similar issue when trying to link 'dead' media with the actual files.  The system goes off into neverland.
The work around I've found is to import the older jobs into a new Premiere CC project.  At that point, replace any dead links (do NOT try and find the media as you'll be lost in hangupville) by importing the media again and replacing the clip in the sequence with the new import from the bin.  Once all your media is 'live', remove any unused media from the project and confirm there are no 'dead' links (you can look at the media icon and notice a ? if they are not dynamically linked properly).  Manually clear any remaining unlinked media.  Save the project.
I have started to use Project Manager to archive all Premiere projects when moving them from one server to another.
This is a total pain in the @ss, and nothing I've seen before Creative Cloud.  I hope that Adobe gets this resolved or I may consider dropping my subscriptions completely.  That is a huge investment, but this type of issue is too much trouble to manage for a small production company.
I welcome any other thoughts, fixes, or comments.

  • Premiere Elements 11 hangs when opening projects

I have a 64 bit HP ProBook 4740s with Premiere Elements 11 installed. I use my laptop 2 days a week and work from a desktop machine 3 days a week.
The laptop installation of PE11 hangs when I try to open projects but when plugging external hard drive into desktop the project opens fine.
All files are on the hard drive so it's not from missing files.
If I create a new project PE11 runs fine I then create another new project and it hangs
Really frustrated, even reinstalled - still same issues.

    Martin-Evans1
We were pleased to learn that your problem was resolved by a just the Premiere Elements uninstall/reinstall
as you wrote in your post 2 and repeated your result in post 4.
As SG pointed out, the details of these issues are important to get at the core of the issues (whys) and expedite
matters to get you moving forward with your projects.
If the problem reoccurs, please get back to SG in this thread with details necessary to help you. In this instance we will not know if the problem was really with the install or rather with corruption of Premiere Elements settings file which could have been handled by deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file or the whole folder in which it exists on the hard drive.
    Continued success.
    Thanks.

  • IMovie '09 hang when opening project

I have a large project in iMovie I was working on. When adding a song from the media browser to a clip I got the "spinning Beach Ball" where iMovie hangs until I had to "Force quit". Reopening iMovie in order to edit the project hangs (spinning beach ball). I have seen multiple posts on the web and even in older post here; but have not found a working solution. Following the advice of older posts I have:
    Rebooted
    Repaired permissions / fixed errors
    Trashed iMovie plist
Removed video clips from iPhoto (to reduce iPhoto video file size)
Used time machine to revert back to previous edit
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Apple- are you listening? Anyone from Apple Support care to take a crack at it?

Do you know whether it was built in CS5?
The Premiere project it is linked to must be CS5. (I think this is what I found when using CS3, CS4, and CS5 projects with Encore CS5.)
Try opening the PR project in Premiere, then while open, open the Encore project.

  • Unable to Open Project with RoboHelp 9

I've been working on a project using RoboHelp 9. Last night when I attempted to save RoboHelp froze. Looking at the CPU usage in task manager I saw it was still hovering between 45 and 50% CPU usage. Seeing as it was the end of the day anyway, I decided to leave the program running overnight in the hopes that it would eventually unfreeze.
When I came in this morning it was in the same frozen state, still using between 45 and 50% of the CPU. So I used end task to stop the program from running and tried to re-open the project. The project tried to open but froze during loading.
After consulting the forums I made a back-up of my project directory and deleted the CPD file. The project hung again on open (though it created a new CPD file was slightly smaller than the original CPD file).
I restored from backup and tried to open from the XPJ file but had no luck.
Restoring from backup again, I deleted the CPD and XPJ files and tried to open the HHP file with similar results.
Other projects are working fine so I created a new project and attempted to import the HTML file (a file which opens fine in Firefox) and it also causes the project to hang.
    A bit of additional info:
I'm running the project on a local drive on Windows 7 32 bit edition.
Does anyone have any ideas for next steps I should try? I really don't want to have to restart the project from scratch.

    Hello Peter.
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I have rebooted my system to no effect. I also am able to work on sample projects (adding and removing content, modifying topics, saving, generating output, etc) without any issue.
I tried the items you talked about on your Opening Projects page that I hadn't already tried. I even tried deleting the HHP file and using the HHP file to generate a new one in the hopes I might luck out but it also hung. It did create a new XPJ file that would open but all the content was missing (I could see the table of contents but the links were all x'd out because the page they were pointing to wasn't being loaded).
One thing I have noticed is that most (though not all) of the times I try to load the project and it hangs it hangs out "Loading topic files" (other times it hangs without any text indicating what it is doing).

  • Premiere Pro CC 14 won't quit or open projects

    Hi-
Here is my situation.  My HD crashed in my iMac last week and it has been replaced by Apple.  I've now reinstalled all of my apps.  Everything seems to be working fine except for Premiere.  I can open Premiere, open a project and it loads fine.  If I try to quit or open another project while Premiere is open, it does nothing.  Literally nothing.. just sits there like nothing had happened.  Even if I can get to the open project window, I'll select the project to open and then it just returns to the current project... with no options to save, cancel, etc.  I can still work in the project after this.. no spinning pinwheel or hang up.
I did use a Time Machine backup to get a lot of my files back.  I'm not sure if that messed up permissions or what, but I have followed the steps listed by Kevin here to no avail Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later) .
One thing I did try was making a new user account with admin privileges and Premiere seemed to work.  The only issue is that many of my other programs don't work because the serial # is associated with my main user account.
Here are the specs of my machine:
    iMac 27" late-2012
    3.4 GHZ i7
    32 GB DD3 RAM
    OS X 10.9.5
Any help would be much appreciated since I'm close to a stand still since I can't move from project to project.
    Thanks,
    -Mark

    Just to follow up..
I was able to contact Adobe via their online chat. I had a representative do a screen share to figure out what was going on.  From what I can tell, he went in and repaired permissions for my Applications folder, updated the CUDA driver and deleted all of the "Adobe" folders in the user profile and the system profile.  After that, he re-opened Premiere and everything seems to work now.  It must have been some corrupt file in one of the Adobe folders OR a bad permission.  Either way, I thought I'd report back.

  • Opening Project First Time from Version Control.  RoboSource Node

Four writers have upgraded successfully.  My fifth is having issues...
She has Serena Dimensions SCC installed as well (another source control product - used by Applications, not the authors or Infra.
Problem: When she is establishing the root path (and the Browse RoboSource Node window opens, but it does not populate, even after 20 minutes.  Reboot did not work, neither did manually removing Serena Dimensions SCC.  I have verified that she has a connection to the database (via RSC Explorer) and can see the project (as well as the RH7 version of the project).  We have
These are the instructions... (screenshots not included).  She's hanging up on
1.1    Using a New Project for the First Time
    IMPORTANT NOTE:
The author must have local administrator rights on the machine.  If the user has a privileged account, they must set up full local control of their work folder (specified in 1.1.2.8).
1.1.1    Install RoboHelp and RoboSource Control
    1.    Download appropriate software packages, including all patches, from Adobe.
    2.    Launch RoboHelp Installer.  Select the following options for installation:
    o   RoboHelp for HTML
    o   RoboSource Control (Client)
    o   CS4 Script Extender
    INSTALLATION NOTES
Installation of each component is separate and may take up to 30 minutes.  You do not have to install RoboHelp for Word.
Only select the Client Install for RoboSource Control.
    3.    Install all patches in the order specified by the vendor.  Check with the technical communicator on which version is currently in use for patching.
    1.1.2    Open the Project
    1.    Launch RoboSource Control.
    2.    Establish a database connection per section 3.3.1.
    3.    Close RoboSource Control.
    4.    Launch RoboHelp 8 for HTML.
    5.    Click Open under Recent Projects under the main frame (do not use title bars).
    6.    Click the Open Project from version control button (shown below).
    7.    Make sure that RoboSource Control 3.1 is highlighted as the Version Control Provider and the checkbox for “Make this my default selection” is checked.  Click OK.
    8.    Configure the Source Control system as follows:
    Connection:  PROD
Root Path: Click the … button and navigate to the (project name) root in the database and click OK.  This may take several minutes.
    Connection Mode:  Online
Get to Local Path:  Click the … button and navigate to your Data folder.  Select Make New Folder under Data and give the folder a unique name to help you identify the files as for the Support KB in RoboHelp.
    9.    Click OK when you have configured source control.  A copy of the database is now being downloaded to the path you specified.  This may take up to 20 minutes.
You can verify that installation is proceeding either by watching your local path fill with files or keeping an eye on the CPU usage of the RSO3MiddleTierService and RoboHelpHTML files under Task Manager.
    10.  Once transfer is complete, highlight Tier1KB.xpj and click Open.  It may take several minutes to open the project the first time.  It is typical for the snippet file to check out the first time you open the project and the first time each day that you save all project files.
    11.  Once the project is open, set Version Control properties:
    a.         Select Tools > Options.
    b.         On the Version Control tab, select all options.  This will prompt the user on each version control action they take.
    12.  Test a check out/check in to validate correct installation and source control operation.

  • Premiere Pro CC not opening Project or AutoSaves!!

    Hi Guys,
If anyone can help I'd be grateful as I am up against a major deadline after about 1 months work and all of a sudden Premiere Pro won't open this project!! I just starts to open and then I get this error message:
Can't get into this project or any of my auto saves of the same project? HELP!!
Only thing I can remember doing recently (although it was working fine since this) was updating my Nvidia and Cuda Drivers. I also installed NewBlue FX Plugin ColorFast. Would any of these cause the problem?
Any advice really gratefully received as I am starting to panic!
    Cheers,
    Alex
    Camera On Films

I've just come accross this bug too. I moved some of my media (one music file a .aiff) in the finder from one folder to another on the shared storage where my media is kept). I moved it purely for tiding purposes.
When I went to reopen my PremiereProCC project it would not open. It would get passed the Open Project timebar but then just hang.
When I moved the audio file back to it's original place the project opened fine.
This is a bit wierd because it has found offline files before but for some reason moving this audio file freaked PPCC out.
I've tried moving the audio file again and reopening and it would not open, moving it back and hey presto the project opens again.
The autosaves would also not open because of this file being moved.
It's very odd because I've had to relink a whole project before in PPCC because I'd transfered the media to a new drive but when you move one small file it can't handle it.
This bug needs to be sorted as I've just jumped from editing on FCP7 for the last 10 years and can't afford for stuff like this to happen.
If anyone has any clues on how to ensure that PPCC can relink moved media that would be great.
    Cheers

  • Frequent crashing when opening projects

    10.5.8, LP 9.0.2, Mac Pro 8-core 6GB RAM
Logic frequently stalls/crashes when opening projects. This happens most often with projects that have lots of sampler instruments (primarily VSL), but some of the time with no samplers at all. The loading window generally hangs on Vienna Instruments with projects that have them, and on Space Designer with projects that don't.
The project this happens most frequently with is an orchestral template I'm creating. It has about 25 instances of Vienna Instruments (totalling 1.34GB worth of samples), a few channel EQs and one instance of Space Designer. Other projects that have caused the crash include about 10 native software instrument plugins, 1 Akoustic Piano and 10-15 native effect plugins. I consulted VSL tech support who said the problem was most likely with Logic. I'm inclined to agree, since the problem happens with and without any Vienna Instruments, and Vienna Ensemble Standalone has no problem loading templates with a lot of samples.
Does anyone have any suggestions to troubleshoot? Has anyone had similar experiences? Thanks.

Well, this has happened to me too. To the point where I've lost all the work, because Logic can't open the original project or the "crashed" copy it creates. Happened again with a new project I'm working on, albeit on a much more modest laptop system.
Annoying. Makes me think about switching DAWs...what else can you do if Logic can't be trusted.

  • Encore CS5 freezes opening project

I am running Production Premium CS4 and CS5 on Vista Business 32-bit.
I can't use the Dynamic Link in Encore CS5 as I don't have After Effect CS5 or Premiere Pro CS5 installed so I've created a new project in Encore CS4, imported footage from an After Effects project and saved the project. I then try to open the project in Encore CS5 and it freezes at 13% of the 'opening project' popup box every time.
Can anyone suggest how I might resolve this problem? Thanks.

Just did a search for this problem as my progam also started to hang all of a sudden - at 13% while opening.
I figured it might have been something to do with my clearing out the massive Adobe cache last night. (Useful to do if you suddenly find that you're missing hard drive space and it's not the shadow files. Look in hidden file AppData Adobe Common....)
Anyway, after reading this post, I opened the Premiere Pro file that was used to create the film file originally (even though I never exported this file directly to Encore. I used Media Encoder first.)
As soon as the file loaded in Premiere, the Encore problem resolved. (I had tried it several times before with no luck.)
I didn't need to go back into the Cache folder or rename anything.

  • Snippet vanish if project hangs

Sometimes, my project hangs and I have to end it via the Task
Manager. When I do that, any Snippet that I created vanishes from
    the Snippet pod.
However, there is still a placeholder type link to the
Snippet in the topics. I see a couple of paragraph marks and if I
position the cursor over the area where the Snippet used to appear,
the name displays in a link box.
This is very annoying. I have to blow away the cpd file and
then recreate the snippet, etc. etc. This process also means I lose
my template files, which I use to provide last update footers in my
    topics.
Seems like the Snippet files are not very stable.

    Here's what I did
#1 - Removed all the meta tags from the project
    # 2 - reimported the 2 snippets and inserted the 1st into one
topic and the 2nd into another topic. Based on the problems we had
with snippents, I had coverted all of the links to text so I was
    starting from scratch.
#3 - Generated the project and viewed it. Everything looked
fine. Even showed where the snippets were used.
#4 - Closed the project and reopened, the snippets were gone
again. Leaving only the paragraph mark where they were supposed to
be in the topic and the name if you hovered over the paragraph
    mark.
#5 - Blew away the cpd and xpj, which I hate doing because we
lose all of our template files. We use templates to last updated
info in the footer. ** Unfortunately, I can only re-import some of
the templates that are in the project and NOT the most recent. If I
leave the templates unimported, they show up as unused, which they
are NOT. If you've got a suggestion for re-importing templates,
please let me know because I've tried everything and we have
templates going back to 2005. So re-importing is pain, especially
as I'm never sure which template will come back into the project.
#6 - Reopened project and the snippets were there. Even
    showed where used.
#7 - Imported a Word document into the project. Removed the
meta tag and saved. Then I inserted a snippet into that topic. !!!
Snippet did not display --- only the paragraph mark and the link if
I hovered. Nothing in preview mode. This change also occured in the
2 other topics where I had snippets. !!!
    # 8 - Generated the project just to see if the the snippets
would show in the generated file. Yes, it did.
#9 - Closed and re-opened the project. Snippets seemed to be
there but still not showing in topics. When I re-imported 1
snippet, it appeared in the topic but was then duplicated in
    Snippet pod.
#10 - I then got some exception errors, which I only get
after I try generating too many times. 1st -- "Instruction at ....
referenced memory at ..... This memory can't be written. ---- and
--- 2nd "The exception unknown software exception ... occurred in
    application at location ....."
#11 - When I reopened the project, only the 2 snippets were
there and everything showed properly in the project.
At this point, I don't know what to do. I want to use
snippets as they're a great feature. Unfortunatley, unless I spend
hours that I don't have testing every possible scenario, I'll be
opening and closing projects just to ensure that they're still
    there.
Not sure if this is a bug given that your suggestion for
deleting the meta tag in all topics and any new ones did not work
--- or ---- something specific to our projects that goes beyond the
    meta tag issue.

  • Open project was canceled or RoboHelp was unable to load database

I have Robohelp 2002r2 and am creating Robohelp HTML help.
The project was ok yesterday but today when I try to open it I get
the error message "Open project was canceled or RoboHelp was unable
to load database". I tried the solutions in the knowledgebase
(rb_3245) but still no luck. I can't even create a new project
either or I get the same message. Anybody know what to
    do????

    Welcome to the forum.
The message is usually easily dealt with. I haven't checked
the article as you didn't include a link but I'm guessing it
involved deleting a couple of files and then using the HHP file to
    open the project.
What is more worrying is that you cannot create a new
    project.
Have you tried opening one of the supplied sample files?
Are your projects stored locally and not on a network?
Have IT given you a new profile to log on with?
Has anything else changed in your environment?

  • Unable to Open Project from a Networked computer

    Hi All
We have just recently installed Robohelp V6 on a computer in
the office and after making sure that RoboSource is connected and
visible, I have come to my desktop machine and made sure that
    1. I could connect to the Robohelp "Server"
    2. that I could map to the drive that the project file
    resided
    3. that I could ping the "server" computer
All appears to be fine, except that when I try to open the
Project file from the "MAPPED" drive, I get the following error
    msg:
"OPEN PROJECT WAS CANCELLED OR THE APPLICATION WAS UNABLE TO
    LOAD THE DATABASE FOR: T:\Content\Grail2Aug07Help.cpd"
    It is the Project file
grail2aug07help.xpj that I am trying to open.
The project WAS currently opened and in use my another person
on the "server" computer, so I wonder if this is the reason for the
message.??? If I cannot get the project opened. how do I then make
sure that files that I want to alter are "Checked In/Out" by me and
are also seen, by other users as being CHECKED OUT...??
    PLEASE HELP..!!
    Regards

Your project should live on a local drive (e.g., the My
Documents folder on your PC). Version control can live on a mapped
    (i.e., network) drive.
