Open projects with missing assets

When opening a project, with assets that have been deleted from the computer, the process is rather slow, as DVD Pro checks computer for all the missing assets individually. This is specially irritating when opening old projects with assets deleted, but which are kept for configuration reference.
Is there a way around this, or should I just learn some patience?

You may have to change the way you work/save projects.
You could replace your project assets with "dummy" assets(this keeps the button layouts, etc.) before you save it. That way on the next similar project you do a data replace. Or just enjoy the quality time of "re-linking" and data replace.
The "placehoder or dummy asset" works good for me.

  • Encore crashes opening project with 'VideoClip.cpp-275' message. Any fixes?

Encore CS4 seems to be able to create new projects (only tried simple ones), but crashes shortly after opening all my current Encore DVD 2.0 projects with above message. Have searched various forums and lots of people have had similar, but no fixes discussed actually work.  Running on Windows 7.32-bit
    Have tried the following ideas:
       re-installing CS4 (many times)
       deleting Quicktime
deleting the transcoded material in the project
deleting the C;\User\susername\  AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Encore\4.0 folder (and various other versions of this suggestion)
running as an administrator (although I have full admin rights anyway)
There was also a suggestion from somebody that it was caused by missing assets in the project, but all these projects have gone to completion in 2.0 with a burnt DVD, and haven't changed since, so that's not the case.
Please don't waste my time telling me to get drivers up to date or apply the CS4 patches or anything obvious. Or to upgrade to CS6 - if I switch to Windows 64-bit then I have a whole host of other issues.
As the original discussions on this error message faded away I presume there must be a solution out there?

Bottom line; l there is no guarantee that an Encore project from an earlier version can be opened by a later version. It appears to work sometimes. You may simply have to start over. Or use 2.0.
hence my comment above on 'missing assets', which I can't see being the problem.
We don't know whether Encore is seeing the asset in the location it expects. So I think this can be an issue. I was primarily thinking in terms of the possibility of an issue if you were using dynamic link, rather than an imported file. You didn't say; are you using dynamic link?
as Encore insists (as it opens the project) on immediately transcoding,  it!
It is probably indexing or the like, not transcoding. This is a possible sign that it is not finding its cache files. This can be a permissions/drive issue.
Did I update my project to CS4 - no, how can I?
This was asked in the context of whether you might be using dynamic link. The update would occur in Premiere. It is not relevant if you are not using dynamic link.

  • Unable to Open Project with RoboHelp 9

I've been working on a project using RoboHelp 9. Last night when I attempted to save RoboHelp froze. Looking at the CPU usage in task manager I saw it was still hovering between 45 and 50% CPU usage. Seeing as it was the end of the day anyway, I decided to leave the program running overnight in the hopes that it would eventually unfreeze.
When I came in this morning it was in the same frozen state, still using between 45 and 50% of the CPU. So I used end task to stop the program from running and tried to re-open the project. The project tried to open but froze during loading.
After consulting the forums I made a back-up of my project directory and deleted the CPD file. The project hung again on open (though it created a new CPD file was slightly smaller than the original CPD file).
I restored from backup and tried to open from the XPJ file but had no luck.
Restoring from backup again, I deleted the CPD and XPJ files and tried to open the HHP file with similar results.
Other projects are working fine so I created a new project and attempted to import the HTML file (a file which opens fine in Firefox) and it also causes the project to hang.
    A bit of additional info:
I'm running the project on a local drive on Windows 7 32 bit edition.
Does anyone have any ideas for next steps I should try? I really don't want to have to restart the project from scratch.

    Hello Peter.
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I have rebooted my system to no effect. I also am able to work on sample projects (adding and removing content, modifying topics, saving, generating output, etc) without any issue.
I tried the items you talked about on your Opening Projects page that I hadn't already tried. I even tried deleting the HHP file and using the HHP file to generate a new one in the hopes I might luck out but it also hung. It did create a new XPJ file that would open but all the content was missing (I could see the table of contents but the links were all x'd out because the page they were pointing to wasn't being loaded).
One thing I have noticed is that most (though not all) of the times I try to load the project and it hangs it hangs out "Loading topic files" (other times it hangs without any text indicating what it is doing).

  • FB4 errors will not go away when opening project with FB3

I decided to download FB4 and I opened a project that I had been working on in FB3 and I got these errors:
The style 'backgroundGradientAlphas' is only supported by type 'mx.core.WindowedApplication' with the theme(s) 'halo'.  I found out how to fix this in FB4, but I decided it would be too much trouble to try to convert this project, so I decided to go back to FB3 to finish it. So I opened the project with my FB3 and the errors are still there.
How can I get these to go away?

You don't have to convert the project, you can still use SDK 3.
    1) Project properties > Flex Compiler
    2) Under Flex SDK version, choose Flex 3.5
You can also import older SDKs in Window > Preferences > Flash Builder > Installed Flex SDKs.
I'm not sure how you would see compiler errors from FB4 in FB3 unless you were somehow sharing the same workspace in both. Sharing a workspace in that way is unsupported.

  • [CS4 WinXP] InDesign crashes on opening docs with missing links

    Hi,
I expect this issue is more to do with the PC than InDesign itself but I would be interested to know if anyone else has seen a similar problem (and been able to resolve it).
The design team in my office have just been given new HP Compaq PCs with CS4 (inc. InDesign 6.0.4). When these designers attempt to open certain InDesign documents, their InDesign will crash with no warnings or dialogues. The same documents can be opened on other (older) PCs without crashing.
The documents which crash all contain links to graphics on a network which is not available. The same document will open on older PCs but will obviously report missing links. The network is not available to the older PCs either. The older PCs are also running InDesign CS4 (6.0.4).
If the failing documents are opened on older PCs and the links removed, these can then be opened on the new PCs with no issues.
As I said, I expect this is a PC/Networking issue rather than InDesign itself but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Simon Kemp

Try changing the preferences regarding checking links on open, and also using a workspace that doesn't include the links panel or preflight. That might be enough to get the files to open, and exporting to .idml or .inx and resaving might solve th problem (for that matter, it wouldn't hurt to export one from the older machine and see if that will open).

  • Can't open projects with Imovie 5 that were created with earlier version

I can't open my Imovie projects that I created when using Mac OS 9.2 now that I'm using Tiger and Imovie 5.
I'm not sure what version of Imovie I created them with. Do I need to find an earlier version and open them in the classic environment, or is there some way of converting or importing them?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Theoretically iMovie 5 can convert old projects, but projects created in Mac OS 9.2 can be quite difficult, for OS 9 is very different than OS X. More about that here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1677339
Your best option is to use the version of iMovie that you used originally to edit the project. If the projects are really old, that may require starting up your Mac in Mac OS 9 (instead of running iMovie in the Classic environment, which is Mac OS 9 running inside Mac OS X.)
Your best solution may be to boot up in Mac OS 9 and use your old version of iMovie to export the project back to the camera, then boot into Mac OS X and import the tape into iMovie 5.
If you don't have a camera, export to a Full Quality DV movie, then import that movie into iMovie 5.
The camera will (probably) deliver the clips to iMovie 5 as clips, while the export to a Full Quality DV movie will not.
By the way, to see which version of iMovie last edited the project, drop the project file on the TextEdit icon in the Dock. The version is shown at the top of the file.
iMovie 2.1.2 was the first version to run in OS X, I believe. The last version to run in OS 9 had the same version number, unfortunately.
If your Mac doesn't let you start up in Mac OS 9, then say more about exactly what happens when you try to convert the project. Do you get error messages? What are they?

  • Crash when try to open song with missing exs-file.need shortcut!

    Hi there
I would like to ask, if there is any idea where I can get a list of shortcuts/keycommands for startroutines in logic. I can´t open my songs anymore because logic can´t find some exs-files. instead of just leave these files as "missing", logic crashes.... I need to start the songs without driver. Any idea, how?
    Thanks for an answer, Mitsch

Just open Logic without loading a Project->Prefs->Audio->disable Audio core->then open your damaged projects.

  • Trouble with missing asset...

The Asset panel says I am missing a PNG image, apparently one that I was once using as a "spacer image".
I can select "go to asset" in the drop-down menu; but, I do not know where the image is being used.
Is there a way to delete the image from the site without having to find where it is supposedly being used?
I'll attack a screen shot for you to see...

If you right click on the asset:
Click Go To Asset, and it'll take you there!
    Hope this helps,

  • Why can't I open projects with 10.1 update?

I just ran the 10.1 update and already had Event Manager (also just updated to latest version) yet only 2 or 3 projects are showing up.  I have selected "Update allprojects and events" and then it says there are none to be found.  If I select "Locate" then all of the project and event folders on my drives are greyed out:
    This is sooooooo frustrating!!!  Yet

I see that one. At the top i see this
Your image is correct. When you click Locate, you go to the drive and select it, then click Update and it will update that drive, no other locations. When you click Update All all drives and all locations including the Movies folder are updated.

  • After Effects CS5 freeze on project load with missing files

    Mac with 10.6.4
Open a CS4 project file with missing assets. It opens and converts to a new untitled document. Save the document and close. Open it again and it the application freezes up when loading the last bit of project files. Spinning beach ball forever. No error. It looks to be hitting a few missing files in the project but instead of putting up a "X number of files are missing since you last saved this project" message it locks up.
I tried to open the older file again and find or delete all the missing file references but midway through that process I got the beach ball again. Now it freezes up just loading the older CS4 file.
    Any ideas? Much thanks.

Files are on two different external drives, as is the project file itself. What I have done is copy the project file to my internal hard drive, disconnect all external drives, open the file and... it opens. At that point everything is missing, right. But I cleaned up the file, tossed out anything that wasn't totally necessary (this file is two years in the making). I saved it. Leaving it open I plugged the drives back in and started to reconnect the files to their references. I made sure there were no missing files. Closed, quit, and restarted and it worked. I lost a few things but nothing I couldn't rebuild pretty quickly. I suspect one of the reference files was corrupt? Maybe not, because the project file worked in CS4. Maybe a 32bit to 64bit conversion issue? Not sure but I'm back up and running.
Thank you for responding. Hopefully this info will benefit someone else. Twas frustrating. These boards are a great resource.

  • Disaster-DVDSP4 won't open project anymore, looks for weird file

I built a DVDSP4 project using as my intro movie a project I created in Motion. All was going well until tonight when I made some changes to the intro movie by using the "open in editor" command from within DVDSP. The modifications were saved. When I went back to DVDSP, the intro movie played, but without the audio. I tried resaving the audio, which had been edited and saved in Soundtrack, instead as aiff, which seems to be more compatible with DVDSP. When I tried to reimport the Motion movie (which I hoped would contain audio that DVDSP would recognize, I started having problems. Now I can't launch my DVDSP project. I get messages about 3/4 of the way to opening it, which say that movie data in a file called E95A-4182-8#39426B.aif can't be found. It keeps trying to find that file and I finally have to force quit DVDSP. I also get the same message when I try to open the Motion project that made the intro movie. The failure of the DVDSP project to open even happens to a backup copy of the project I made last night, 24 hours before I had this problem. DVDSP will launch, but with a new project. I simply can't get the project I worked on for 3 days to open. Does anyone have an idea how I can get at least part of my project back?

I found your post looking for the same information, and in my case, it was a huge project.
First, I usually save the project with a different name (like XXX_COPY) just in case because I do not know if DVDSP4 saves a backup like FCP and FCE. In this case, I invested a lot of hours and the saved copy was too old (24 hours!) to try to continue from it.
I noticed that the program crashed in the final stage of loading while working with the assets... Good news! I solved it and recover the project.
I rename the directory for the source clips so the program would advice that the links were lost. DVDSP opened with the missing links and saved it just in case with another name... just in case.
After opening the project with missing links (becasue I renamed the directory), I changed it back to its original name and the auto reconnect discovered it and after clicking 'OK' a thousand times (one for each asset), it all got connected. I saved it with another name (I was then paranoic) and opened it and it now appears to be OK... Saved like 12 hours of work.
In my case, since I was not using anything but DVDSP, it was DVDSP itself the one who corrupted the project file.
    Hope you can solve it,
    Israel

  • Crashes when trying to open project/event

I have been working on a large (very, very important) project for the last three months. I had an hour and 20 mins of footage over three camera angles to edit together. I have experienced continuous crashes throughout working on this, I would get about 20 mins workflow max before the whirling beachball appeared then would have to switch off and let rest for a couple of hours before the mac would even start back up. Coming to the very end of my edit as I was adding in the end credits and mp3 soundtrack to this, FCPX keep saying there was no more memory to save edits and to clear some space, I was running the project from my external hard drive that was full to the brim so I copied the project to the hard drive on the mac (which had nothing else on it at all) the project opened but with missing files throughout. Next for no reason at all FCPX unexpectedly quits on start up, I uninstall and reinstall, this does not solve problem. I hid the events and projects which enabled me to open FCPX.
So now I can open FCPX with the event im working on showing in the events folder, but it shows up with missing files still and when I click on the event to open it, FCPX closes up showing the unexpectedly quit box.
I have basic editing knowledge and very basic mac knowledge so I really dont know how to get out of this problem!
I hope someone can please HELP!!!

OK, go back to your original set up, with your Project and Events on the external drive.
"Duplicate" the project (Project Library, highlight, right-click, "Duplicate") inside of FCP X, select the option to include all referenced Events. Then disconnect the external drive before launching FCP X.
You may experience a degridation in performance running Projects and Events off of the internal drive, also.
Even if you reinstall the app, that doesn't effect preferene files.  I'd download the free "Preferene Manager" from  Digital Rebellion (dot com) and trash the prefs.
Also go into each Event and Project specific folder in the Finder, trash all Render files.

  • Missing assets - HELP!

I work for an advertising comany that does movie theatre advertising for movie theatre screens. I am utilizing DVDSP4 (4.0.3) to author the DVDs.
Here is my problem: After creating tracks, and matching up the graphics and audio, I simulate it. Everything is working great and looks fine. Then I Advance Burn (Build & Burn). I've tested the DVD in a DVD Player (my PS2, regular home DVD Player, & a portable at work) and I get a random "Asset Missing," plus the file name, during playback. I go back to DVDSP, make sure everything is checked and lit green (which is). I simulate again...works fine. I've deleted and inserted the "missing" assets. Re-burned. Same problem. (It shouldn't even burn with missing assets, should it??)
Does anyone have any idea what is happening or have a solution? I've re-install the software (I've deleted preferences and receipts first), and then upgraded to 4.0.3. Has this problem associated with updating to 10.4.6? It was working swiftly with 10.4.5. Anyone else having any issues?
Sorry for the long explanation. Thank you!!

  • Monthly photostream project images missing

Went to look for a photo in one of the monthly projects that photostream creates, and almost all of my images are gone. There are only a couple of images left in each monthly project. I manually recovered those that are still in the 1000 on photostream, but everything prior to that seems to be gone. Any ideas? Thanks.
    Aperture 3.4.3

Are the Photo Stream projects the only projects with missing images? That really should not happen.
I'd make a backup of the Aperture library and then try the Aperture library first aid:

  • Stabilization for the project with the different video settings

If i open project with the settings for 1080p video and then add to it 720p video, how can i make stabilization for it? (When i open another video with the different sequence settings it does not allow me to make stabilization)
Is there any way of working in one sequence with the different settings of the video?

Footage that does not match the sequence setting nest first then add the Warp.
