Open Recent Menu shows hierarchy (root) folders of documents

The "Open Recent" menu used to simply show the file name and for some reason it is now showing the entire hierarchy of folders. This started showing up about a week ago. Is there a way to reset this to show the file name only?
I've checked preferences as well as Application Menus under Edit, but no luck. I've also checked to make sure that PS is the default for opening psd files as I had been trying a few image editor and thought one of the trials triggered this.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Chris, I'm experiencing the very same issue. I have uploaded to CC2014.2 v1 (latest?) and my recently opened list exhibits the same issue.. A long hierarchy of folders. Extremely annoying and at times hard to work. Is there a solution in the works? Or was it fixes and somehow my set-up is causing this? All of the other CC2014 apps DO NOT exhibit this issue. It's just Photoshop.
Here is what I use:
PSD CC2014.2 v1
OS X Yosemite 10.10 .1
16 GB RAM

  • Open Recent Menu failure

There was one reference to my problem in the past but an explanation for how to repair or correct the problem was not included in the posting. As well, I've read back a few hundred discussion items and have not been able to find any other references to this problem. I'll understand if it is uncommon.
For some time now I've been unable to see a list of items in my "Open Recent" menu item. The grey "Clear Menu" item appears but none of the recent items I was working on ever appear in the list. I can't remember when I first saw this but I haven't acted on it until today.
I'm using Pages 3.01 on a MacBook Pro and I usually run Parallels at the same time. But I have this problem whether I'm running other software or not.
Now I do rely on CopyPaste to be running when I startup and I have Default Folder set to load on startup because I rely on these so much during my writing. But they are separate applications and don't patch the system, really. So I don't suspect either of these being a culprit.
I've trashed preferences found in the user library without solving the problem.
I'm not a power use of my MacBook Pro so I don't know much about where to see more. Anyone who might be able to either identify my problem and point me to a solution or examine my problem with me and help me diagnose it for other readers would be able to reply to this.
I'm still in 10.4.11 so it's not a Leopard thing yet. Everything else I do on this Mac is pretty normal (except for a flakey copy and paste with Photoshop Elements).
Why this would have worked some time ago and fail in recent months is part of the mystery as well. And for those who might suggest I send in a comment to Apple -- I already have (with little hope for their response).
If I'm the only person having this problem I'll accept the silence.
    Cheers

I have to give special thanks for this to the MacFixit "Be Your Own Mac Troubleshooting Guru" and especially pages 26 and 27.
Essentially the guide states you can drag your User Library folder to the desktop and disable everything at once. Then log out and log back in.
Then launch Pages and find the Recent Menu is working fine.
Then you put back folder after folder until it breaks. I went through all of them and came down to the last two (Application Support and Preferences) with no problem. I then put the Support folder in and expected it to fail - but it did not. So after one more log out and log in I was down to going through all the Preferences files and folders.
Most of them were easy but there were a few which already existed and I did not replace those (about 16 files). None of the ones I left out had anything to do with iWork or Pages (and that's what people were suggesting here).
So, now I have a fully working system with no real changes to the way I had it before. Now there was ONE thing which did not work the way it did before. My two finger hold and click usually brought up the contextual menu (a right click substitute) and this didn't work any more.
I went to System Preferences and turned it back on (Keyboard and Mouse) and things are still working fine with Pages. So, I think I'll say the problem is solved and thank everyone for their support through this process.
The making of a new user was the clue and the use of MacFixit's diagnostic steps helped me work this out over about 2 hours. I know many of you might wonder why I didn't just move everything over to a new user - but those who know will understand the process I used was pretty much the same. Any problem I had in the Preferences folder of the Library would have copied across and I would not have been the wiser.
For Yvan: Yes, I'm waiting with Leopard. I have a couple of utilities which I need in my work and they haven't released Leopard updates yet. When those are in the bag I'll be going up to Leopard.
Thanks everyone. Now I have a process I can use for future problems if I have them in some other area.
    Cheers.

  • 'open recent' menu - more projects

    Hi everybody.
Everytime I launch Logic I browse the 'open recent' menu since I always work on several projects at the same time and seeing their titles and 'chronological order' is helpful to say the least. Back in my logic 5.5 days I had the last 24 songs shown in the menu. With logic 8 express only the last 8 songs are displayed... Any chance to change these settings and get the menu to show, say, 30 or 40 projects? Just titles after all....
    thanks,
    JC

No luck finding it so far. I've posted a query to the LogicProHelp forum (an excellent resource: http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=142442#142442) -- hopefully I'll get the answer we're hoping for.
    I did find this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61328
which tells you how to increase the # of recent items on the Apple (OS) menu. As a poor workaround I've bumped that up to 50.

  • Contextual Open With Menu shows old non-existent Applications

Open With Menu: Shows multiple applications. It even shows versions of older applications that are no longer on my hard drive. And if I select these older version, those older applications launch! I've checked the About... menu selection on these older versions, and sure enough it says the older version. Example: I only have the latest version of Opera 9.24 on my drive, but 3 older versions, plus 4 of one of them show. I can click each one and they ALL launch with separate windows for each one.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305627
I followed the instructions to trash <com.apple.LaunchServices.plist> file and Restarted and the menu STILL lists all the applications. I then checked the Prefs folder again, and the <com.apple.LaunchServices.plist> hadn't even recreated itself yet.
    I'm totally stummped

I just realized that in my previous post I neglected to mention, that the problem has quickly returned. Sorry for any confusion.
Now after two tries, I notice that some .gif files have Preview icons others Photoshop. Some .gif files are listed to open with Preview, others with PS.
If I use Cmd + i on a wrong iconed file and scroll down to any other app, select it, let the icon change, then without doing anything else, scrolling back up to the default (Preview), the icon finally changes correctly. Change All is now available, but clicking it has no effect on any other files that have the PS icon. Some don't even change over from PS being the default app to Preview.
Same problem with .txt files. Some TextEdit, others Excel. So.. I am just changing them one by one, whenever I need to open one that is wrong.
At least the multiple apps in the Open With pulldown are gone
    I'd sure like to know:
    1) Why are my Library files corrupting and
    2) Why is Dr. Smoke's fix creating icon problems
    3) Out of the 1,000s of threads, I wonder what the possibility of the good Doctor ever finding this on and helping us/me find a total solution. Help us Dr. Smoke, we need youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

  • Open Recent menu option not working

My open recent menu option under the "file" menu is greyed out and I can'g access my recent projects. Any ideas why this is? I'm using a Mac that has a few different users under different Logins on OSX Lion 10.7.4. I've heard that some preferences may need to be deleted but I don't want to mess up my system and delete the wrong file! Any help would be appreciated.

  • Open all files in 'Open Recent' menu

Is there a way to open all files at once that appear in the 'Open Recent' menu in Preview? If I have 15 PDFs listed, would it be possible to open them all at once (perhaps through Automator?).
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Can you identify the disc where your Scratch files go to.
If you have not designated a specific disc it will be in the default location.
You need to remove any files associated with the Project in question from the Scratch Disc location.

  • Open Recent Menu CS3

Does anyone know where the data for the "Open Recent" menu item is stored? Some files have gone missing from my computer (I suspect someone was messing with it while I was away), and I would like to know if I can find out where the menu item points to.

I think I misunderstood what you were trying to do...
You can indeed have a look through the 'com.adobe.InDesign.plist' to find the path to a missing file as long as the prefs themselves have not been reset due to corruption.
Use textedit or download textwrangler to open the file. Textwrangler does a better job of displaying the contents of the xml file.

  • Open project and NOT have it added to 'open recent' menu?

It would be great to be able to browse thru several projects without affecting the 'open recent' menu.
    Is this possible with 3.0.2?

I'm afraid this is not an option. However, you can request it in a future version here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/motion.html

  • Open Recent menu doesn't work

No matter how many projects I work on, the "Open Recent" menu is always blank.
    Same in the Project Browser.
Is it limited (deliberately) to only files that have been saved in the official apple-sanctioned folder?
I ask as the .motn files I save in my own folder musername/projectfiles/motion

As I already explained, if some documents where opened from external devices, it appears that they remain in the list of recent items but can't be open.
If you mount the original device the files will open flawlessly.
It's at least the way it behaves here.

  • TextEdit's "Open Recent" menu command: how to increase # of files listed?

In TextEdit (v. 1.6, in OS 10.6.5), under the "File" menu, there is a command called "Open Recent >" which when chosen lists the ten most recently opened TextEdit files. Select one from the list, and it re-opens.
I find this functionality very useful, but I also wish that more than just ten recent files were listed. I would much prefer 15, 20, even 25 recent files in the list.
Is there any way to increase the number of "recent" files listed under "File>Open Recent>..." in TextEdit?
There doesn't seem to be any option for changing the default number in TextEdit's "Preferences."
Other applications also have a similar functionality, and in some cases the default is more than ten, in some cases less. But a few other applications give the user the ability to alter the number of files listed. Yet not all. So, my second question is: Is there a universal way to alter the number of "recent" files listed in:
    • All Apple applications
    • All third-party applications
    • The Finder?
Mostly I'm interested in solving the TextEdit problem, but I might as well ask this secondary question while I'm at it.

    Sweet! That was easy.
I knew there must be some way to adjust the setting somewhere, but it never occurred to me to look under the "Appearance" system preference pane. Strange place to hide it!
Recommendation to Apple: Allow each application to set its own # of "recent" items," and *place the option in that application's own "preferences" menu*. Much more logical there!
In any case: Problem now marked as "solved"! Thanks.

  • On opening only menu shows

I used iPhoto to create a calendar yesterday. Today when I opened iPhoto nothing shows except the menu bar. I can't access anything.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Open Recent Menu question

Does Logic7 have a preference for File>Open Recent?
Is this a default number or is there a preference? For some reason my Open Recent suddenly has amnesia and cannot remember anything but the single last song opened.
    All suggestions appreciated....

The Open Recent should be related (but I've not tested) to Finder Appearence Preferences.
Open the System Preferences, choose Appearence and change the Number of Recent Items: Documents to see what happens.

  • "Open With" menu shows multiple versions of apps I don't have installed

So I did an Erase & Install to get Leopard up and running but I did a full system backup to an external drive that I do have connected to my machine.
Right now when I do "Open With" in the contextual menu in Finder it apparently is not only listing the apps installed on my main drive with Leopard, but also the apps on the external drive.
How can I get those apps on the external drive to not show up? I have the drive set to not be indexed by Spotlight.

  • Open Recent menu - How to get more projects in it

    Hi everyone,
I've changed the system preferences -> appearance settings
but logic is still only showing the last ten projects.
back in logic 5.5 days I could have heaps more.
any ideas how I can change this?

    A program like Tinker Tool
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html
    or Onyx
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
will allow you to set the length of the 'Recent Items" list.
