Open source debugger for Flash, Flex and AIR

As developers at De Monsters we weren’t totally happy
with the current Flash, Flex or AIR debuggers out there. So we
decided to create our own debugger called De MonsterDebugger. Today
we’ve got a great new version that we want to share with the
community for free.

De MonsterDebugger started out as an internal tool that
helped us with the development of different ActionScript 3
projects. The past several months we’ve been working on a new
version of this internal tool. With this new version you can
explore your live application, adjust properties and run methods
all at runtime. You can trace objects of any type (String, Array,
XML or even custom classes) to De MonsterDebugger and it will show
the complete structure of that object in an easy-to-read tree
structure. De MonsterDebugger is made with Adobe Flex and brought
to the desktop with Adobe AIR.
Because De MonsterDebugger isn’t our core business
we’re giving it away for free! All the sourcecode is open
source available under the GNU General Public license.

Sharing code between Flex and AIR versions using library project

Hello everyone,
I'm developing an application that has both Flex and AIR versions. In order to share code between these apps, I created a library project and added all my code there. Now I've set the library project as a dependency for both Flex and AIR projects. Since there are some components that use the DataService object, I've added fds.swc and fds_rb.swc and fiber_rb.swc modules to the libs directory of the library project. No compile errors. Now, if I try to run my Flex application, I'm getting this error:
Variable mx.data::LocalStoreFactory is not defined.
I know that this error comes up when playerfds.swc is not present in the path. But that is not the case here. I have added playerfds.swc, fds.swc and related lib files to the build path.
If I go back and add the playerfds.swc file to the original library project, the error no longer appears. This is not a proper solution for me, since I need to share this project with AIR version also, and I cannot have both playerfds.swc and airfds.swc in the same project.. Has anyone faced an issue like this before?? What am I doing wrong??

What is the state if flex, and air development for air

Hi,
1- I wanted to know what is the state of affairs in flex and air as cross platform mobile development solutions?
2- Are they still worth learning and spending time developing mobile application using these technologies?
Becuase all the documnetation forum posts and most of the help material I come across is almost a year old.
Any guidance in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

The right place to look for updates on Flex is http://flex.apache.org
The good thing is that activities are still going on. The bad things are that:
- Unless the dependency to Adobe air is cut, Flex as an open source project is bound to fail imho. See FlexJS for updates on that point
- Current activties seem to be focused around making things more polished rather than working on hard stuff (typically developing an independent and open source runtime execution engine => flexJS)
So...
For a small company, home development, not so business critical applications, I recommend warmly Flex, since it is one of the best (if not the best) cross-platform mobile development environment (Very good performances if used appropriately, very good programming environment, lots of components, structured language, lots of documentation and tutorials, easy to design, etc.)
for business critical applications... The risk is high !

What's the relationship between Flex and AIR?
I only know that Flex is a Framework and the AIR is a runtime,
Can any one tell me more about these two object in detail,thanks a lot!

AIR is a runtime that supports a superset of the Flash Player API. You use it to run mobile and desktop applications, as opposed to browser apps.
Flex is a set of technologies for building either AIR apps or browser apps. It includes a framework of runtime classes (e.g, Button, DataGrid, etc.) to use in your applications, an SDK with a command-line compiler, and an IDE called Flash Builder (formerly Flex Builder) that supports intelligent editing, a design view, and a debugger.
So, a brief statement of their relationship is that you can use Flex to build AIR apps.

Flash builder and air app Help

Hi everyone
I am new to flash builder I have many adobe products ie master collection, and have an Idea for a small application. But need it to do a few things. I have only looked into fash builder a little but want to know a few things before getting started by getting the trial and then purchasing the real deal.
With flash builder and air can I make a app that will detect the top most window on the clients computer and return the name of the program ie photoshop etc and then give me the name of the active window, tab etc.
How much scope is there for interaction with other adobe products in the master collection.
I have written a few little script before in java. vb, applescript and actionscipt but I want to know if flash builder and air combo has the functionality I need before I bother getting into it to deep.

You can run the AIR app separately, it should still be on your system (Applications > Adobe > Adobe Help or the root of your Start menu on windows).
If for some reason the app isn't there, reinstall it from http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/. There's a preference under Edit > Preferences > General Settings for "Accessibility Mode". If you select "Open Help in browser", your Adobe applications will open a browser instead of launching CHC.

Open source projects for reading/wrting Excel, need your ideas

Hi all,
First of all, I am sorry that i didn't find the matched category under the listed forum topics.
I am evaluating some open source projects for processing(read/write) Excel files, so far i have found two: POI from apache and Java Excel API, however, i am wondering if there are any excellent projects that i missed, would anyone who have such experience please give me some ideas? Any better APIs?

I think POI is not 'excellent' in some areas, for example, i found POI sometimes cannot read Date format collectly, and cannot support some kinds of formula either. So we want another more 'excellent' java-excel components.

I tried creating a simple JSF portlet and I can able to register and it is working Fine, but my teammet got the same issue like you :) . While Analyzing what I found is , the location where we created the portlet in weblogic portal. If you created your portlet directly under WebContent folder then this issue is coming up, so try to create the portlet in a folder inside the WebContent folder, say create a folder with name portlets under webcontent and create the JSF portlet inside that portlets folder.
Now start the server and register the same in WebCenter, you will not get that exception. I am going to raise a ticket with Oracle about this issue and get the root cause.

There are all sorts of solutions for displaying maps on the Web, starting from JPG files and going up from there. Would you reject JPG because it isn't open source? Or did you really mean to ask for no-payment solutions?

An open source framework for agile development with Sites

The framework is completely following WebCenter Sites standard. It is built on top of JSP and Java using only documented API and standard Java libraries. What's the Best Open Source DB for use with Kodo?

In terms of ease of setup and use, tools to view info in the database, and least difficulty in
running with Kodo, what is the best open source database to use? I'm use to using Oracle and
SQLPlus. I need to use an open source DB for a learning environment, and I'd like your informed
opinion.

I have been using postgresql 7.1 with Kodo for a while with mostly positive results, and currently
have it deployed with Kodo 2.2.3. I prefer it to mysql because its feature set is a little richer,
and supports transactions natively. My experience with mysql (without jdo - I haven't tried it with)
is good, but there were little things missing in mysql 3.x, e.g. the ability do do a join in a
DELETE statement.
BTW, there are some severe problems somewhere in the 2.2.4 release with postgresql if you intend to
eventually deploy on it. It also apparently has some problems invoking postgresql's indices, making
it a little less than optimal. But as a learning environment, it's what I'd recommend.

Table and Field for Open Order Quantity for a Customer and Material

I created two sales orders 3 and 5 quantities, and delivered 1 qty in the second order.
when I checked the table VBBE or VA05, I am able to see 3 and 4 qantities open.
but I want to see the total 7 as open order qty, i.e, 3+4=7
because both the orders are placed by the same customer and same material
can u please tell me in which table exactly the total open order quantity for a customer and total open order quantity for a material is stored

HI,
U can get the information in VA05 as there are columns like confirmed quantity and order quantty and status. U can use summation button (add upto values) to get required information.
