Robert,
Thanks for the update, ya i basically need the tool to monitor the DB, but at the same time, if CPU is going high due to any query or any other reason, we must get the alert, the tool currently we are using triggers a mail for both, DB as well as CPU when it goes high, similar one is needed
ThanksGrid control or database control will do this for you, there is a rather big however, er however. Being notified is a part of the diagnostics pack functionality (ludicrously and unjustifiably IMO). That means a license cost (unless you are already licensed for it). nagios does this as others have said as do shell scripts. I'm not aware of an open source tool that does all you want without scripting though.

Monitoring tool for Oracle Golden gate
Hi,
I am new to Oracle Golden gate. I did the setup for one way replication golden gate and wanted to monitor it for any alerts.
I am wondering if we have any tool to monitor the golden gate and send the alerts if any issues like OEM grid?
Thanks,
MahiHello,
Is it possible to monitor DB2 as a source(OS-AIX) and Oracle as a Target(OS-Linux) using OEM12c Plugin to monitor the golden gate.Please let us know.

New open-source build tool for CS Extensions
I just released a new open-source tool for creating, compiling, debugging, packaging, and deploying extensions:
https://github.com/creativemarket/csxs
At a Glance:
All project settings live in a single JSON file (not multiple XML files).
Compiles CS5 & CS6 versions and packages them as a single ZXP. This is useful for supporting "DarkNormal" and "DarkHover" icons without ditching CS5 compatibility on your extension. It also supports other / more complicated configurations.
Created projects contain boilerplate for re-skinning on UI change along with fixes for platform bugs.
Generates aggregated changelogs.
Automated deploys to S3.
Automated git version tagging.
Conditional compilation variables (CONFIG::debug, CONFIG::release, CONFIG::version).
Usage:
csxs create
csxs debug --cs-product=photoshop --cs-version=5.5
csxs package
csxs deploy
I'd love feedback, suggestions, forks, bug reports, etc!
p.s. I really hope this doesn't come across as spammy—I mean it with the best intentions. I think it could be useful for some out there. More tools for the CS ecosystem is a win for all.
"We encourage you to contribute content, answer questions, or comment with corrections, clarifications, tips, and more. Links to your favorite resources or expert videos could help other community members."
http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2325Great tool, thanks a lot for sharing it.
Installed it and built "Hello, world" extension, now trying to convert my existing extension project for this. Packaging CS5 / CS6 versions alone is priceless.
Maybe a dumb question, but is it possible to switch .json and output name in command line? I have extension with 5 different versions, they have different licenses etc., so it would be great to type
csxs package config1.json extension1.zxp
csxs package config2.json extension2.zxp
and so on? I'd put it all into one .sh script
sorry if it's all already available and I just missed this part in documentation -
Need information on open source testing tools for ADF web applications
Hi experts,
I need to investigate on new feasible open source Java testing tools for testing ADF web applications. I have tried to google a lot but getting confused.
My requirements as as under:
1. The tool must be open source.
2. It should be easy to understand and to work upon by the tester and developers.
Selenium based testing approach is already in place for testing the application but need to search for tools other than Selenium which shall prove suitable for testing ADF applications. Kindly let me know your inputs / suggestions.
Thanks a lot in advance.
NeelanandHi,
Have a look at JMeter http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/index.html
1. The tool must be open source.It is.
2. It should be easy to understand and to work upon by the tester and developers.I guess it is.
There are some specifics in configuring it for ADF, but Chris Muir wrote a nice blog about how it's done, check it out http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com/2010/04/configuring-apache-jmeter-specifically.html

Hi,

This is my question:
there are desktop tools, similar to "Net Manager" of "Oracle 9i Client", for manage Client instance ?. As i can manage Client istance for configure host_name, port and service_name in relation to the Database XE Server ?.
In a "2 Day DBA Guide" have not found nothing !
I have the doubt of to have made an wrong installation !!!
Thanks in advance
MarioThis is my question:
there are desktop tools, similar to "Net Manager" of
"Oracle 9i Client", for manage Client instance ?.No, you must use "normal" 10g Client for that features.
As
i can manage Client istance for configure host_name,
port and service_name in relation to the Database XE
Server ?.Again use "normal" 10g Client for that - XE Client is based on Instant Client. For enabling ceratin "features" of XE Client see Installing Oracle Database XE Client. -

When I increase storage for Oracle database
Hi, Gurus
We start and golive SAP one year ago, Now
my oracle databes usage is 68% like below from ST04.
Size: 308.09 GB Total size: 400.39 GB <br>
Free Size: 97.27 GB Total free size: 189.57 GB <br>
Used: 68 % Total used: 53 % <br>
This storage usage at UNIX level <br>
/dev/vx/dsk/eccprd-dg/sapdata1 100G 72G 26G 74% /oracle/PRD/sapdata1 <br>
/dev/vx/dsk/eccprd-dg/sapdata3 100G 80G 19G 82% /oracle/PRD/sapdata3 <br>
/dev/vx/dsk/eccprd-dg/sapdata4 100G 68G 30G 70% /oracle/PRD/sapdata4 <br>
/dev/vx/dsk/eccprd-dg/sapdata2 100G 89G 10G 90% /oracle/PRD/sapdata2 <br>
When I must increase storage size because it to much usage 90% ?
Or wait 90++ % all drive.
Thank for all comment.Hi Witoon,
What you need to do for monitoring space for oracle Database is to proactively monitor tablespaces of the databases.
This can be easily done with the help of BRtools . It is safe to keep the used tablespace < 85 % to avoid any kind of tablespace issues. If any major loading process is to started then the free space of the table space should be adjusted accordingly.
Out of several tablespaces present in the Oracle DB few are made by Oracle for example
SYSTEM
PSAPUNDO
SYSAUX
PSAPTEMP
TOOLS
Leaving the above mentioned tablespaces you need to monitor the tablespaces whose sizes are changing.
When you increase the size of the tablespace then more space is allocated on the disk in the form of datafile for that tablespace so before increasing the size of the tablespace you need to check the free space on the disk
Use df -h (Linux command) for checkin the diskspace on linux server.
Thanks

How to set JDBC Data Sources in Oracle MapViewer for Oracle database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1)?
The following is my configuration in the conf\mapViewerConfig.xml:
<map_data_source name="mvdemo12"
jdbc_host="127.0.0.1"
jdbc_sid="orcl12c1"
jdbc_port="1522"
jdbc_user="mvdemo"
jdbc_password="7OVl2rJ+hOYxG5T3vKJQb+hW4NPgy9EN"
jdbc_mode="thin"
number_of_mappers="3"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="true"
editable="true"/>
<!-- **** -->
But it does not work.
After use "sqlplus mvdemo/[email protected]:1522/pdborcl", it connected to the Oracle database 12c.
Does anyone know it?
Thanks,For 11.1.1.7.1 use the syntax for jdbc_sid, i.e.
//mypdb1.foo.com as described in the README,
- MapViewer native (non-container) data sources can now use database service name in place of SID. To supply a db service name, you will use the same jdbc_sid attribute, but specify the service name with double slashes in front, such as follows:
<map_data_source name="myds"
jdbc_host="foo.com"
jdbc_sid="//mypdb1.foo.com"
jdbc_port="1522"
/>
For 11.1.1.7.0 use a container_ds instead.
i.e. instead of using
<map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
jdbc_host="mydbinstance"
jdbc_sid="pdborcl12c"
jdbc_port="1522"
jdbc_user="mytestuser"
jdbc_password="m2E7T48U3LfRjKwR0YFETQcjNb4gCMLG8/X0KWjO00Q="
jdbc_mode="thin"
number_of_mappers="6"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
editable="false"
/>
use
<map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
container_ds="jdbc/db12c"
number_of_mappers="6"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
editable="false"
/>
In my case the Glassfish 3.1.2.2 JDBC connection pool definition was
Property
url jdbc:oracle:thin:@mydbinstance:1522/pdborcl12c.rest_of.service.name
Uncheck the Wrap JDBC Objects option in Advanced panel, i.e. the Edit JDBC Connection Pool Advanced properties page.
Add a JDBC resource for that newly created pool
Use that in mapviewerconfig.xml as above -
Tools for Oracle Admin.
Hi Gurus and admins.
I have been lurking here for a while and I think that these groups are wicked cool! I left college ("school" to our American friends!) recently (degree in computer science) and have got a job as a junior oracle developer/dba with a small company near London. The company is "young and dynamic" (i.e. we have to work long hours ;( ), but there are good people here and lots of opportunities to learn. We are allowed choose our own tools for the work we do as long as we use the Subversion server for source control (sql - pl/sql - java - c) and use Bugzilla for reporting. Since these are browser based, this is not a problem and I can use my Linux box (nearly) all the time and the browser of my choice. Sometimes it is necessary to use Windows on client sites - amazingly, they tell us it's for security reasons - go figure! I want a lightweight admin tool that's Open Source (I did lot's of work on open source stuff when in college. Does anybody have any ideas? Mac.>
Hi Mac, and welcome to the forums,

have any ideas? Mac.I looked at this at one point.
There are a number of tools out there that are F\LOSS. There's TOra which is
about the best of the Open Source stuff, however, development seems to have
stopped around 2010. There's also http://www.sqltools-plusplus.org:7676/index.html (Windows only)
from Randolph Geist - but it's ceased development also. Its advantage is that it can
be run from a USB stick - but when I tried it recently, it didn't support the DESC table_name
command - I have to say that I was disappointed.
There are a number of SQL*Plus replacements out there - Go [url http://packages.python.org/sqlpython/comparison.html]here to check them out - most seem to
have ceased development - apart from sqlpython and gqlplus.
You mention security. I was on one client site where all we were allowed use was
vi and SQL*Plus. There is a project [url http://code.google.com/p/vorax/]here which seeks to be a
"simple, yet a powerful IDE for Oracle databases" by sort of combining vi with SQL*Plus. Haven't
tried it, but it might be worth a look.
You have to remember however that, while on client site, you may very well be constrained to use
the tools that they tell you to use which will likely be (boring old) SQL*Plus and an editor.
You may be denied the opportunity to use your latest whizz-bang tool and worse still, you may
be stumped if you have to use tools with which you are not familiar.
Download and play all you like with all of the marvellous stuff you can find on the interweb,
but you must be familiar with SQL*Plus.
As for a GUI tool, my recommendation is that you use SQL Developer if you are mostly running
Linux - it also works on Windows. It's a java app, so it's a bit sluggish on machines with <= 2GB
of RAM, but with laptops now at 8GB RAM and rising, that shouldn't be an issue.
Even on Windows, personally I find TOAD to be very cluttered, but if your employer is willing
to pay the (outrageous) licence costs, then I would make an effort to at least become somewhat
familiar with it - it's pretty much a standard - many Oracle job offers mention TOAD.
You have to ask yourself for your career &c., are you more interested in F\LOSS or becoming a
competent Oracle professional.? It's likely that the latter will pay a better salary and, even if
you don't add in the complcation of learning non-standard apps, there's a heck of a lot to learn
with Oracle alone.
Best of luck with your career.
[EDIT sb92075 mentioned Squirrel SQL - I had meant to put it down also. If you want a tool to
connect to all major (and a lot of minor) database servers (it uses JDBC - so if you have a driver
you can connect) and perform ad-hoc queries - then Squirrel SQL is your man. I've used it
for Firebird, MySQL (although Workbench is better), PostgreSQL and even Oracle - it's handy!

Regards,
MohammedYou can enable tracing at multiple levels using the DBMS_MONITOR package. The following link shows how to enable session tracing: [Application Tracing Tools|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/sqltrace.htm#CHDFCGAE]
You can then use a tool like TKPROF or TRCSESS to aggregate the trace data into more readable files for analysis.
