  • Requirements to install open suse 10.3 on lenovo3000n200

hi, would i need a copy of drivers for this machine to install open suse 10.3,or will this operating system be able to auto detect the drivers needed?
    thanks ellie

Hi Ellie, I Have tried quite a few Linux Distros on my 3000 N200 and If memory serves Opensuse is one that doesn't quite get it all right on install. I remember having probs with my wifi card and sound drivers also not sure if the SD card reader is installed as I didn't test it at the time.
Personally best results were a debian based distro such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Only things that didn't work were sound (which I posted a fix for here: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Linux&thread.id=316) and the fingerprint reader - which doesn't have many applications to tie to it in Linux at the moment.
Additionally if you follow the Linux route you will need to install drivers for your Graphics card if it's a 7300go and you want 3d acceleration, this can be done using the restricted driver install from the admin menu (possibly Yast in Suse If memory serves), or by installing a program called EnvyNG which makes it all easy-peasy.
You may also want to check out the Linux forum here:http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board?board.id=Special_Interest_Linux as there are bound to be some nice bods who can give you more advice if you get stuck.
Also found some good info on the Hardware Compatibility after a quick google:

    Hope this Helps you out
    Regards

  • OBIEE 10.1.3.4 access issues on Open SUSE Linux

    Hey guys,
I am new to OBI EE and i am trying to get this working on open SUSE platform. I got lucky and finished installation and ran the following scripts
    # run-sa.sh start
    # run-saw.sh start
    # run-sch.sh start
The first 2 scripts went fine but I had problems fixing the Scheduler services. It gives the following error:
[nQSError: 67042] The Scheduler Configuration is incorrect.
[nQSError: 67004] Registry value for SchedulerScriptPath not set.
I am not sure what to do. I am also unable to access the Presentation(Dashboards) page. What do I do to access the OBI login page. Any suggestions are extremely appreciated.
    Thanks

I am also unable to access the Presentation(Dashboards) page. What do I do to access the OBI login page. Any suggestions are extremely appreciated.Have started your OC4J instance? By default OBIEE installs a OC4J instance where the Analytics.war Web App will run. This is the Presentation Services plug-in that you use to access the BI Server via the Web (Answers, Dashboards, etc), so that's the login page you are looking for. On a default installation that OC4J instance runs on port 9704, so you could try going to http://your_server_name:9704/analytics to see if you can see the login page.

  • Port VMWare Open Suse image to Hyperv

I am in the process of restructuring our small MIS department.  In the past there was an over emphasis on Linux servers (physical & virtual) and VMWare.  Support for these servers have cost us much in time, money, and resources.
While I would like to eliminate the physical Linux servers from our environment, the problem I have is that two of our important business applications run on separate Open Suse machines (physical) running VMWare virtual machines running Open Suse OS.   These applications will be replaced with Widows based products in about 8 months.
Until thin, is there a conversion process for VMWare images, that will enable me to port the VMWare machines to the Hyperv server, thus eliminating the physical machines?  If so please direct me to where I might obtain the tools/documented processes for this migration.

Yes, Microsoft provides integration components and technical support for customers running select Linux distributions as guest operating systems within Hyper-V. Linux integration components are now available for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, 11, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2, 5.3, and 5.4. These integration components enable Linux to take advantage of the VSP/VSC architecture and provide improved performance. Linux Integration components are available for immediate download from the Microsoft Download Center.

But before you do, try this:
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

    and here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • I'm trying Open SUSE..

I got the Open SUSE 11.0 now, and i'm now tring it.  It recognised many of my Hardware and has tools for it. The USB camera and the Internel Bluettooth was recognised @ installation time and now working fine. The camera softwre in SUSE is even better because it gives a higher picture resolution than the deafault Lenovo Easycapture in Windows. It has more interesting camera effects too. And its supporting the mp3 fine, and easily. But it does not support any of the common video formats. Please try it if there's anyone out there who can help. Now i've to see if my modem is supported too.. Currently SUSE is doing fine for me, ithink it can be better than Ubuntu, with its mp3 support.

There is a refurb T61 with the 1.4 proc (SXGA+ 14.1) at the outlet; might be picking it up to try it.
Down to the Tablet and an older TP so want to find a TP that will run one of the new distros. Good news that everything works "out of the box".
Years past I had to spend HOURS looking for drivers or edits to make MOST of the TP stuff work with "Linux"
Unfortunately the download speeds offered by Novell are HORRIBLE. I get 1MB/sec. speeds for Fedora, 2.7MB/sec for Ubuntu and 300K for openSUSE 11...
Anyone have a clue how well the T5270 proc performs? Speed, power, heat?

    As previously noted by Yingkuan,
    $DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0; export DISPLAY
Has a $ sign in excess.
This is a very frequently seen error, and the help displayed by the installer should be enough to understand what is going on. On the other hand I assume you are either working on a character mode console by means of either the su command or by means of a remote shell session. Unless you are able to launch an Xclient by means of the oracle user, there is no way this can work.

  • SLES 11 / open SuSE 11 ODBC- Oracle 10

    Hi all,
i am trying to create a connection on base ob an odbc driver from SuSE Linux to an Oracle 10 Database.
Searching the internet I found some unixodbc.
But having heavy problems installing it.
Is there a nother way to create a odbc connection without using the unixODBC driver?.
Or anyone has a how to that works ?
    Thx
    Woo.

I think under opensuse the odbc.ini is in /etc/unixODBC
in order to set up oracle connection you have to download these files from oracle home page
    oracle-instantclient-basic-10.2.0.4-1.i386.rpm
    oracle-instantclient-devel-10.2.0.4-1.i386.rpm
    oracle-instantclient-odbc-10.2.0.4-1.i386.rpm
    oracle-instantclient-sqlplus-10.2.0.4-1.i386.rpm
i guess it automatically sets up defaults in /etc/unixODBC/odbc.ini and /etc/unixODBC/odbcinst.ini
if it not works after these step one should sets up a tnsnames.ora file in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    like here Linux ODBC Errors

The same code, the I have compiled under an intel pentium x86 machine running opensuse and sunstudio12 for linux for the x86 platform. On the linux I have used the -xarch=sse2. After compiling I have tried to run it and the program start running but after some time it stops saying Floating point exception. Then I have compiled with the -g and -C option and then run it with dbx having the catch fpe activated. When stopping I got the following message:
    FVr_bestmem( 31) = 2.59647E+01

I thinking that maybe it is a problem of the CPU type I do not know.
Could you please give me a hint about what is the problem and how to solve it ?
Any hint is very much appreciated.
    Thank you very much
    With kind regards

    Dear Paul,
The story is a bit longer.
First I have compiled and run the program under windows 2000 using the digital fortran on an intel machine. This was the platform that I work when developing. When compiling using the debug mode there was no problem the program run but slowly. Then when compiling using the optimization options the program crashed giving a fortran run time error. So far I Have always linked agains the LAPACK BLAS comipled altogether with the code.
The I have tried to the same under mandriva 2008 having the sunstudio12 compiler on the same intel PC.
I did compiled again everything using the LAPACK AND BLAS fortran files. When running the dbx with the catch FPE the program crashed and the error was in the ilaenv calling the ieeeck routine.
Then I tried the same linking against the sunperf library and I got the output shown in the first post.
Secondly I have installed opensuse on the macbook and tried the same with both ways either linking against the sun library or building everything using the LAPACK-blas source. The the same error was produced as presented in the first post.
Thirdly I moved all the code on a sun microsystem machien with sun ultrasparc III cpus. Then compiled and linked against the sun perf library and the program is running.
Maybe this will shed more light
