Open Tab next to Current

Is there any plan or add-on that will enable a Safari tab to be opened NEXT TO the tab that opened it? This feature is the one reason that I prefer Firefox. It enables me to leave up tabs for long periods, and open up new content from them, but keep the content together in the window.
Is there any roadmap for Safari that is public, or any way to make developer requests?

Hi,
I haven't heard of a way to do this (but that doesn't mean there isn't something out there - edit: there you go above, Mulder says Saft can do it ).
Is there any roadmap for Safari that is public, or any way to make developer requests?
Apple tend to keep things close to their chest You can make feature requests via Safari menu > Report Bugs to Apple... (I realise it isn't a bug but this has been the recommended for sending feedback in the past).
Some information about the direction of the WebKit rendering engine can be found over at [webkit.org|www.webkit.org] though.

• Open Tab next to current tab

I know there is a post on this for Safari for WIndows But I am on a mac.
I want to be able to open a tab next to the tab I am working in even if there are already several tabs open.
Usually I am browsing the internet looking for something and I will open a lot of tabs some related to what I am looking for and some not.
When I do find what I am looking for, I want it to open it in a new tab and next to the tab I am working in rather than it going to the end of all my tabs, which is usually off the tab bar because I have so many open.
I know that Safari can run in 32 bit and I can get saft to work again but I like Safari in 64 bit.
Is there a terminal command I can use?
Please help!!!!!

Glims Beta is available for 64 bit Safari - it gives you some options to change tab behaviour - remove Saft before installing it.
Regards

• New tab next to current tab

ok so... why has the simple process of browsing the web been made so damn annoying ?
i want to open a new tab next to a current tab and what do i have to do for this to happen ?
1) i see if there is any option for it in the options - there is nothing
2) i type in about:config and see if can find anything there - nothing
3) i go to google and search for some answers - nothing (the thread is probably closed)
4) i register an account to post a replay - nothing (the thread is closed - http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/926633)
5) i have to look for a place where i could post a new thread and ask why is that thread closed where i could easilly have posted my question
6) so - how do i make it happen without installing any special addons and why has this process been made so damn annoying ?
/firefox 33.1, win7
(i already installed that addon and now also updated ff, so lets see if anything changes)

##Support threads that are over 6 months old are automatically locked by the forum software, as with that thread which was started in May of 2012. As of very recently, Google shouldn't be indexing locked support threads here any more. I don't know how quickly that takes effect. Sorry for your inconvenience.##
my only inconvenience is the fact that you are trying to remove the whole point of having a google search engine and the freedom of the internet in the first place - why are the threads closing automatically without any automatic option to re-open them to add to a discussion on the free interwebz ?
tabmix plus is even more annoying because it wants to make the tabs look pointlessly "fancy" and you need to go through 15 pages of options to get the normal visual back (if its even possible)
i did set that preference to false, but it did not change anything (it was true before)

• When I have many tabs open, & I am viewing the 1st one in the row of tabs, how can I make ctrl+T open tab next to it instead of down at the end of all the tabs?

If, for example, I have 50 tabs open, and I happen to be working on the very first tab out of the long row of tabs (tab #1 out of 50 total tabs)....if I suddenly need a new tab next to the one I'm on so that I can do something else related to what I am doing on my current tab's website, pushing ctrl+t opens up the new tab clear down at the very end of the long row of tabs (i.e., the new tab would be tab #51). How can I make the new tab open up right beside the one I'm working on at the moment?

You would need an extension to achieve this
You can look at this extension:

• Firefox 4.01 no longer saves session or open tabs .. Can this be fixed ?

Simply on exiting previous versions gave the option to save open tabs so your current session was restored when Firefox reopened .. This no longer happens and is annoying .. Can it be fixed or is there some new feature ??? Thanks Warren

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
Another possibility is to use:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

• How do I get tabs to open next to current tab?

How can I get a new tab to open next to the current tab without switching to the new tab instead of having the new tab open at the end of all open tabs and switching to the new tab?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened

Right click the FireFox button in your toolbar and look in the properties- middle tab...make sure that it only has "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" with no other link added to the end. I had a similar problem this morning and found a website had attached it's link to the end so it would always pop up first and would only open a new tab.
Hope that fixed it.

• The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabes for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking?

Question
The latest version of Firefox no longer asks if you want to save open tabs for your next session..I HATE not having that option. What were they thinking? (I think this is self explanatory)

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
• Open link in new tab next to original tab?

I've noticed since updating to FF12 that now when I click to get "open link in new tab," the new tab opens on the far right of my tabs rather than next to the tab I clicked from, as it did in FF3.6. Is there any way to get it to work the old way?
Thanks,
Ellen

Have you tried or checked this hidden Firefox preference in '''''about:config'''''......
You can change a preference to make tabs open
# at the end of all open tabs
# immediately after the current tab.
See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config
*Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and press the Enter key.
*If you see the warning, accept it (promise to be careful).
*Search = browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent
*Look at the "Value" column ('''false'''=open at end, '''true'''=open after current tab); Value = true is the default.
*Double-click that preference to toggle the value from true to false, or false to true
*Restart Firefox (File > Restart Firefox)
See: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2010/02/01/change-firefox-to-open-new-tab-at-far-right-end-of-tabbar-disable-insert-next-to-current-active-tab/

• At one point, I accidentaly chose to always save tabs when exiting. i fixed this by reseting browser.startup.page to 3; however, while it now asks me, even when i click no it never opens the next session to my homepage, only to what the last tab was.

When trying to close multiple tabs, mozilla warns me and asks if i want to save. Even if I click no, the next time mozilla opens it opens to the last open tab of the previous session. If there is only one tab open when i close firefox it does not ask me, but will still load that tab when firefox next opens.

So, I fixed it...but I'm not quite sure how. I compared, line by line, my about:config with the one on my houses main computer...only did about two screen's worth, but I changed some values to match the other computer and the problems gone!

• Firefox won't open mailto links in a new window like it used to...it just opens gmail in the current tab.

I recently upgraded firefox and now whenever I click a mailto link it opens gmail in the current tab rather than in a new window. How can I get it to open email links in a new window.

My MAILTO problem was finally fixed on the June 29, 2012 Firefox version 14 beta 10 release.

• How can I get Firefox to stop saving the open tabs when it closes and reinstating them the next time it opens?

Even tho' I've set options for Firefox to delete history when it closes, it still remembers my open tabs and tries to reinstate them the next time it starts. This causes two problems: 1) it takes longer for Firefox to close, such that if I start it again a few sec later it is still running and won't restart; 2) it sometimes reopens websites I am no longer want when it next starts. The latter also makes the last sites I visited visible to the next user, which I (and I suspect most other users) want to avoid. I would like to turn this feature off since it is far more of a problem than a benefit!

@cor-el
I have the same problem.
My settings are already configured to "Show a blank page". It does show a blank page normally, but when FF crashes, it attempts to reload all the tabs from the previous session when it restarts. My version is: Firefox/3.6.13, and I'm running XP sp3 if that matters.

• When I right click on a link "Open link in new tab" since a few days, it "jumps over" the tab to the right and opens in the tab next to that. How can I change this back to opening in the tab next to the page from which I opened as it used to be?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Is there any shortcut to open a new tab next to the focused one? Ctrl+T opens it at the end of all tabs.

Hi, I have read the article about shortcuts, I didn't know all of that was possible.
But I did not find the only thing I was looking for.
I generally have lot of tabs open.
So often I need to open a new tab next to the one I am working in (the one with focus).
But when I press ctrl+t the new tab is opened at the end of all other tabs, and I need to move it where I want.
Is there a quickest way to open it directly there, next to the one with focus?
Thanks
