  • Error 1054 Open VI Object Reference

    Hi Ppl,
    I'm using LabVIEW 8.6 and I'm debugging a code that uses the  Open VI Object Reference node. The parent reference thats passed in is a refrence of a VI instance and the vi object class is the control type. Though the control is present in the VI, the node returns error 1054 and says object not found.
    I'm wondering why this was. However when the parent is the VI reference itself instead of the instance VI this works. I'm not able to understand the problem.
    Thanks,
    Sathish

  • Close reference needed for step object reference open? If so, how?

    Hello,
    We are using an activex method call to open an object reference to a step and programatically rename it.  This is done many many times during our test run, thousands.  We ran into an "out of memory" problem we had never seen before during a 72 hour test run, and in hunting down any possible memory leaks, I am wondering if a corresponding close is needed for the step reference open we are doing, and how.  I have hunted around the different methods/properties, and can't seem to find if there is a step reference close.  I have attached the specify module screen of the activex call which opens the step reference.
    Thanks for any replies

    Hi David,
    Setting a reference to nothing in TestStand will close it. However, if you are assigning a new value to the local it also frees the memory associated with the original value, making it so you don't need to assign it to nothing. I don't believe the source of the leak is in this step.

  • Open waveform chart in other screen.

    Hello to all!
    I have a front panel with two indicators, the value of those two indicators goes to waveform chart.
    My problem is that I need to call from run_time_menu to waveform chart and that it is opened in a screen different, appearing only waveform chart with titlebar.
    I have proved with a property node_visible of waveform char, but waveform is in front panel and not in one second screen.  Another problem is that if I use a subvi to have another screen, the values of waveform are not updated.
    Thanks.
    G.Garrigos.

    There are lots of ways to achieve this.
    One of the approaches is as shown in the attached VI.
    Go through teh block Diagram of Main VI. Here you will see that a sine pattern is written to a chart.
    Observe that I have placed a sub VI inside the "sub VI" event of the main VI.
    Click on the sub VI icon. In its drop down menu,go to 'sub Vi node set up'. Here you will see that i have selected select 'show front panel when called' and 'close afterwards if originally opened'
    This link will teach you how to pass values to a sub VI by using Connector Pane: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361A-01/lvhowto/selecting_a_connector_pane/
    Run the main VI, and click on "show sub VI" to dispay the graph shown in mainVI on the SUB VI's graph
    Any doubts, do ask
    regards,
    Dev

  • "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when opening designer

    I have a Windows Forms project which was originally developed in Visual Studio 2010. I migrated the project to VS2013, and now every time I open the project's main form, the designer complains of a null reference. If I hit "Ignore and Continue",
    the code compiles just fine. The error in question appears in the "Windows Form Designer generated code" region. Even more curious, the line in question is not the first reference to the object. It's as if the first few times it needs to interact
    with the object, it's fine, then at a certain point it becomes null.
    Here is the call stack for the error:
    at System.ComponentModel.ReflectPropertyDescriptor.SetValue(Object component,
    Object value)at
    Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Design.VsTargetFrameworkPropertyDescriptor.SetValue(Object
    component, Object value)at
    System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.CodeDomSerializerBase.DeserializePropertyAssignStatement(IDesignerSerializationManager
    manager, CodeAssignStatement statement, CodePropertyReferenceExpression
    propertyReferenceEx, Boolean reportError)at
    System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.CodeDomSerializerBase.DeserializeAssignStatement(IDesignerSerializationManager
    manager, CodeAssignStatement statement)at
    System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.CodeDomSerializerBase.DeserializeStatement(IDesignerSerializationManager
    manager, CodeStatement statement)
    And here is the code in question:
    this.optionsControl.Anchor = ((System.Windows.Forms.AnchorStyles)((((System.Windows.Forms.AnchorStyles.Top | System.Windows.Forms.AnchorStyles.Bottom) | System.Windows.Forms.AnchorStyles.Left) | System.Windows.Forms.AnchorStyles.Right)));
    this.optionsControl.IsAsciiMode = false;
    this.optionsControl.Location = new System.Drawing.Point(3, 3);
    this.optionsControl.LogControl = null;
    this.optionsControl.Name = "optionsControl";
    this.optionsControl.PlugInManager = null;
    this.optionsControl.PortFacade = null;
    this.optionsControl.Size = new System.Drawing.Size(613, 259);
    this.optionsControl.TabIndex = 0;
    The problem is reported at the third line, "this.optionsControl.Location = new System.Drawing.Point(3, 3);".

    Hi Eric,
    I have made a research about your issue, and I found it might be caused by the usercontrol in the project. Was “this.optionsControl” a UserControl? It seems that this issue was difficult to handle.
    If possible, I would recommend you recreate this control in a new project.

    We have invested so much effort and done lots of googling and also followed the work around given on https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FLEXDMV-2275 but till now, we didn't get any solution.

    I solved the issue by getting rid of the creationCompleteHandler event handlers for the KPI charts. But, since I am just days into flex development, I would be indebted if someone could explain to me why that was creating problems.

  • Module Chart component Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference

    Is there a known bug when displaying a chart component that is defined in a module. When attempting to display a chart component defined in a module it crashes indicating Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    It crashes at the following location in ChartBase.as. Somehow when loading the chart the  styleManager.getStyleDeclaration("mx.charts.chartClasses.ChartBase"); returns null so when using the setStyle methods the exception occurs.
    private function initStyles():Boolean
            HaloDefaults.init(styleManager);
      var chartBaseStyle:CSSStyleDeclaration = styleManager.getStyleDeclaration("mx.charts.chartClasses.ChartBase");
      chartBaseStyle.setStyle("chartSeriesStyles", HaloDefaults.chartBaseChartSeriesStyles);
      chartBaseStyle.setStyle("fill", new SolidColor(0xFFFFFF, 0));
      chartBaseStyle.setStyle("calloutStroke", new SolidColorStroke(0x888888,2));
            return true;
    Added note: There is a chart component in the application that works fine.  The only way I can get  the chart in the module to display is to add the following workaround preinitializer but it severly impacts the loading of the module. Is there a way around this.
    protected function preinitializeHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
       var styleObjects:Array = FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.styleManager.selectors;
       for each(var styleObj:String in styleObjects)  {

  • Screen Save Waveform Chart

    I have a Labview DAQ VI with some controls and a couple of waveform charts.
    I would like to print just the waveform charts but not the whole panel at
    times using a screen dump or print screen to include as pictures in a MS
    Word report. Can this be done?

    Actually, the whole process is rather simple. Attached is a snippet of code taken from LV's report generation tools. Using a reference to a front panel control, it extracts the appropriate data and writes a BMP file.
    The vi is inside a quick demo that show how it can build a BMP of a graph. Run the demo and then check your temp directory. There should be a new file there that with a name like CT********.bmp.

  • How can i display Waveform chart in a subpanel using Vi templates.

    Hi All
    I am new to Labview hence need  some help. I am trying to develop an application which reads some data from a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). The WSN consists of base station connected to the USB port which recieves data from other sensor nodes.  The data comes in a certain format.  Node name, temperature reading, humidity reading etc. I want to read the data from the serial port and  based on the Node name, i want to display the information for each node in s separate window or subpanel etc. So if a new node is detected then a new window is created for that node. Since all the nodes have the same sensors on board i only need a one template. I can read the data using the serial port, parse the data to detect which node it is and also what the sensor readings are. I have created a template VI for the sensor node. I am having problems in displaying the template VIs in a subpanel. I can succesfully display a Waveform graph in the subpanel but i am having problems in displaying a waveform chart in the subpanel. I can see the actual waveform chart in the subpanel, but i cannot see the plot. Would be greatful if someone could point out what i am doing wrong here.
    Many Thanks

  • "object reference not set to an instance of an object" after update datasource lightswitch

    I'm using Latest Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate (2013.3) and when I attempt to open "update datasource"  it throws an error
    "Object reference not set to instance of an object."

    It's quite possibly an issue with the data source definition being dependent on a newer version of a lightswitch framework DLL.  When I've hit these kinds of issues I've simply deleted the datasource, run a nuget refresh and added the datasource again.

  • "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" on loading reports

    Hi,
    I get "object reference not set to an instance of an object" for some charts in a report.
    Software: SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 & SharePoint 2010
    I have 2 reports each with multiple graphs & tables. The reports are used in SharePoint integrated mode.
    3 months back Report1 gave the error for 4 specific charts. After a few days, the error vanished magically & all charts displayed correctly.
    I recently deployed Report2 which also contains charts & tables. After a few days, the 1st chart itself would not display throwing this error. I deleted the Report2 from SharePoint and redeployed it. Now the error is shown for 2 charts in between &
    I again see the error for the same 4 charts of Report1.
    Since deleting and redeploying the Report2, moved the error to a different chart, it does not look like a problem with the chart itself. Please suggest on what I can do further.
