Open via alias forgets last window dimensions

When I double-click an alias to open a window, the target window sometimes (but not always) opens using dimensions that were NOT what I'd set when I'd last used that window.  I know I can right-click the alias, do a 'show original' and then double-click the 'real' folder to get the window to open with thge correct/remembered settings.  But that's an extra step/click and misses some of the convenience of using an alias in the first place.
Is there some way to get an alias to behave consistently (dare I say 'correctly') when it's simply double-clicked?

Not really, short of some additional software.
http://cordlessdog.com/
I've been using their app Stay for about a year now, and SWEAR by it. Work has me utilizing about 5-10 different windows that all LOVE to forget what size/position they were left in. This has really saved my hide from wasting insane amounts of time rearranging things.

  • Issue accessing Shares via alias

Hi We have a two node file share cluster running windows 2012 r2 standard.
we have configured two aliases in DNS(Cname) to access the clustered shares. the aliases point to the host record for the cluster resource (fileserver)
i have added the aliases in the cluster parameters using :
    Get-ClusterResource <resource name>|Set-ClusterParameters Aliases "Alias1,Alias2"
    Below is the issue description:
Fileshares can be opened via alias 1 from all computers, irrespective of the OS.
Fileshares can be opened via Alias 2 only from windows 7 , windows 2008, windows 2008R2 and windows 2012 servers. we get an error while trying to open the shares from windows 2003 server:
"\\Sharename is not reachable . you might not have the permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Logon Failure: the target account name is incorrect."
please note: the "Alias2" which we are using was a computer added to domain earlier, which is shutdown now as the shares are migrated to the new server. we have  removed its A record from DNS and replaced with Cname of the same name, but the
computer object is still present in the AD".
please help on this as we are stuck with this issue.
    thanks  in advance.

  • IE 11 links open to Blank page after last Window update

IE 11 links open to Blank page after last Window update, I tried every trouble shooting and suggestions I could find in all forums but to no avail.
    Operating system Win 8.
will try any suggestions and report back.

    Hi,
Not sure whether you have tried these methods, if yes, keep trying the others.
1.Run IE with no add-ons firstly.
Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).
If works, please follow the steps to narrow down which add-on cause the issue.
Start IE>Press Alt to show the menu bar>On the Tools menu, click manage add-ons>under show, click All add-ons>disable half add-ons one time for quick narrow down>restart IE.
    2.Try resetting IE.
Start IE>Press Alt to show the menu bar>On the Tools menu, click Internet options>Advance>Reset>restart IE.
    3. This is caused due to some registry problems occurred. To resolve this issue, follow the below steps:
Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
Type regsvr32 actxprxy.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.
If the command was successfully executed, you will receive the message ‘DllRegisterServer in actxprxy.dll succeeded’ window.
    Restart the Internet Explorer
4.if still not work, run system restore.
Start>type system restore in the search box>click system restore>follow the steps in the wizard to choose a restore point.

  • MacBook Pro forgets windows' dimensions?

    Hi everyone!
I recently bought a MacBook Pro.
When I turn off or reboot my Mac the windows' dimensions change and it scrambles the icons.
It never happened with my former MacBook. What can I do in order to fix the windows' dimensions?
    Thanks a lot!
    Francesco

    Hi,
I have not encountered this particular problem yet, but I have just bought a Belkin 54g adsl and wireless router. It has connected up to my home pc with no problems and it has also connected up to my macbook pro (leopard) okay, but the range on the internet connection is really poor. It works up to about 50 feet, but I can't use it upstairs, which granted is more than 50 feet away from the source, but at 80 quid I thought it would perform better.
I contacted Belkin support which is local rate and they suggested changing the wireless channel from 11 to 6, but when I did this it would even find the network using Airport.
I would like to be able to use the laptop over 50ft (i.e. in my bedroom) as well as all over the house, but so far I only get as far as the next room!
If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful? NB: I am not a very technical user.

  • When I select a "compose email" from my GoDaddy email page, it opens up another whole Foxfire window. I can't seem to have it open into another tab instead.

When I select a "compose email" from my GoDaddy email web page, it opens up another whole new Foxfire window. I can't seem to have it open into the existing Foxfire window but just another tab instead.

Firefox diverts most new windows to tabs, but there is an exception when a website uses a script to specify the window's dimensions or removes some toolbars. To remove the exception, you can make a change under the covers. This could be awkward for genuine dialog windows that don't make sense to view in a separate tab, but if you find it more annoying than useful, you can easily switch back.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (3) Confirm that the '''browser.link.open_newwindow''' preference is set to its default value of 3 (divert new windows to a tab instead), or right-click > Reset to get that value
    (4) Double-click the '''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction''' preference and change the value from 2 to 0 (that's a zero) and click OK
    Any luck?
For future reference, the possible values for the window/tab preferences are:
    <strong>(A) browser.link.open_newwindow</strong>
3 = divert new window to a new tab (<u>default</u>) (checked*)
2 = allow link to open a new window (unchecked*)
1 = force new window into same tab
<strong>*</strong> First checkbox in Options &gt; Tabs
<strong>(B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction</strong> - for links in Firefox tabs
0 = apply the setting under (A) to ALL new windows (even script windows)
2 = apply the setting under (A) to normal windows, but NOT to script windows with features (<u>default</u>)
1 = override the setting under (A) and always use new windows
<strong>(C) browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external</strong> - for links in other programs
-1 = apply the setting under (A) to external links (<u>default</u>)
3 = open external links in a <u>new tab</u> in the last active window
    2 = open external links in a <u>new window</u>
1 = open external links in the <u>last active tab</u> replacing the current page

  • IE11 opening 'New Tabs' as 'New Window'

//Posted already over at Answers Microsoft who then requested me to post here.
    Original Thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-windows_7/ie11-opening-new-tabs-as-new-window/9836eb86-9879-46e6-8b86-3d2e8c272f00
    Hi,
I'm currently having an issue with a few computers that have been updated via WSUS. It appears that the IE11 browsers are opening "New Tabs" as "New Windows" and I haven't been able to figure out a resolution as of yet.
    Computers are all Windows 7 x86, running IE11 Ver 11.0.9600.17691 / Update Ver: 11.0.17 (KB3032359)
I've tested multiple websites to make sure it's not just a website causing the problem. All websites are doing it.
I've reinstalled IE11 and even tried to 'repair' IE11 but this hasn't resolved it. No issues found.
I've uninstalled all virus/spyware protection (McAfee)
I've reset Internet Explorer 11 through 'Advanced' in options.
    I've restored advanced settings
I've checked "Tabbed Browsing Settings" and they're all set to open in a new tab, not a window.
Does anyone have any suitable solutions? trying to avoid rebuilds (though I know this fixes the issue)
    Cheers,
    Matt.
    Additional information:
Computers are on a domain network
Last time this worked fine was before the deployment of IE11 (we were on IE9)
No changes were made prior to deployment via WSUS.
Clean Boot didn't resolve my issue.
Turned off and back on via Windows Features. Didn't resolve.
SFC /ScanNow didn't find any problems.

    Hi Matty344,
"I'm currently having an issue with a few computers that have been updated via WSUS"
Do you mean all the machines share the same symptom or just part of them ?
"Last time this worked fine was before the deployment of Internet Explorer11 (we were on IE9)"
Do you mean the issue occurred after we upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 from Internet Explorer9 or it worked correctly until last updates ?
How did you get the Internet Explorer 11 installation package ?Is the Internet Explorer 11 a customed package ?
Have you configured any group policy of Internet Explorer in the domain ?
Compare you symptom with this link:
Links open in new windows instead of new tabs in Internet Explorer 11 or Internet Explorer 10
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2937063
If the issue persists ,please take the following steps to have a troubleshoot .
1.Run "iexplore.exe -extoff" to open the Internet Explorer 11 without add-ons to have a check.
2.If the issue occurred after we upgrade the Internet Explorer ,manually check for updates of the machine to get all the latest updates of the machine .
3.Remove the machine out of the domain then restart to have a check .If the issue persists, download the installation again from the following link ,run the following command line to uninstall the Internet Explorer 11 then restart the machine ,install the Internet
Explorer 11 to have a check.
    "FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"

  • Alias connected to Windows 2000 network share

Using a Mac (10.3.9) I can connect to a Windows 2000 share. I then create an Alias of the share so I don't have to go through the login every time. Unfortunately the Alias 'forgets' and asks for the location of the server or gives me the option to delete it.
This doesn't happen to other macs so I guess it must be a preference file or something like that on the Mac.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Paul

I found a work around for this in another thread. Thank you gnaegi.
    Below is what was posted...
Open Terminal.app from /Applications/Utilities and then enther the following:
mkdir myshare #(do this only the first time)
    mount -t smbfs //[email protected]/sharename myshare
When you work this way you should unmount the share before you log out, shutdown or put the computer to sleep. To do this, open the Termina.app and enter:
    umount myshare
The mounted share is now in your home.

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

That's what APDivs do.  This is the single most common problem new people have with web page layouts.  DO NOT use positioning.  You don't need it.  Start over.  Learn to use CSS floats, margins and padding to align elements.

  • The only way I can open a new tab is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY?!?

The only way I can open a new tab in Firefox is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY don't the other means work?

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • How do I block an ad that opens up a new Firefox window and keeps telling me my system performance is poor? I can't even capture the link.

This particular ad, supposedly from a Windows Certified Partner, opens in a second Firefox window and keeps flashing the message that my System Performance is Poor, wanting me to click on their ad and let them do whatever nasty things they want to my system. I have not been able to capture the path but next time it comes up, I will write down all that I can see.
If I have closed my main Firefox screen first, and then close out this ad, the next time I open Firefox, the ad opens and all my standard tabs are gone, requiring me to reopen each one seperately (Facebook, Google, etc).

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
    (1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    (2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    (3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
    (4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Hopefully that cures it.

  • Open Sub Report in New Window

    Hi,
We have an application which is integrated with crystal reports.
So when you open a report from the application it opens up in a new window. (Ours is a web based application and crystal reports opens up in IE browser)
We have some reports which have subreports (on demand ), is there any crystal report configuration through which these subreports can be opened in a new window, as of now they open in the same main report window.
    Thanks in advance

    hello,
you may wish to look into saving the subreport as a separate report and then:
    1) calling the report via opendocument (if your app sits on top of businessobjects enterprise or crystal reports server)
    2) calling the report via URL reporting if your app does not utilize the above platforms
i can't guarantee the above will work as it may depend on your environment that you are hosting the reports in.
see the help guide [here |http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_url_reporting_opendocument_en.pdf]for more information on linking
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_url_reporting_opendocument_en.pdf
as per using a subreport and opening in a new window, this doesn't really work.
if you want though, you can use a Report Part link to go from the open subreport back to the main report. please see more on Report Part linking in your crystal report's online help.

  • Scheduled workbooks can be open via DisPlus/Viewer but not in Desktop

When we schedule reports in Discoverer results can be pulled out only via Discoverer Plus/Viewer, when sthe ame scheduled report is opened via Discoverer desktop we get the following massage:
“The results run for this scheduled workbook can no longer be used because the query has changed. Do you want to query the database now for the new results?”
Does anyone know what the issue is here and how it can be resolved?
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.2)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.54.25)
    Desktop Client 10.1.2.50.05
    Discoverer Model - 10.1.2.54.25
    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.54.25
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0
End User Layer Library - 10.1.2.54.25
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bi

    Hi
When you upgraded your Discoverer to 10.1.2.2 did you also apply the patch to upgrade Desktop and Administration?
You would have needed to get hold of the Windows version of the patch then run the software update pointing at the Desktop version.
Also, I've heard of this happening following an upgrade from version 4 to version 10 and there are various notes on My Oracle Support concerning this. The one I was just looking at is note 419794.1
Another area where this can happen is if the worksheet uses code that would generate a fan trap. Note 389906.1 deals with this.
    Best wishes
    Michael

When closing Firefox windows, I would like a warning before the last window closes. The about:config settings do nothing. There is a warning for multiple tabs... why not for the last window? I do not use tabs... just windows... I have a mouse button programmed for that. It is really irritating to have to restart Firefox all the time and then open the history window because no warning was issued!

This is ridiculous. I've had this problems for years now and I'm finally walking away from Firefox. I use my keyboards more than my mouse, and how many times does your finger slip and hit Command Q instead of W. How come FF can't reset something as trivial as this? So many people are having problems with this?
Feels like FF has become too big, too slow and just not cooperative anymore. What a shame, I've been using Netscape/Firefox for 13 years. This is silly.

  • Content open up in the current window

Here's a solution for Portal 3.0.8 or later that allows you to open a file in
a new browser window. It requires that you create a custom item type, and use a
procedure to display a link to the file.
    1. Create the following procedure. You can create it in any schema, but the
schema has to have select privilege on the view 'WWSBR_ALL_ITEMS' in the portal
schema. In this example, the portal schema is PORTAL30. If you're running
version 3.0.8, you'll also need to apply the patch to bug 1724250.
Create or Replace PROCEDURE OPEN_FILE (p_itemid IN NUMBER) as
    fileURL varchar2(1024);
    baseURL varchar2(256) := '/pls/portal30/docs/';
    begin
select baseURL | | filename into fileURL
    from portal30.wwsbr_all_items
    where id = p_ItemId;
    htp.p ('Open File');
    EXCEPTION
    when NO_DATA_FOUND then
    htp.p('Document not found or access denied');
    when others then
    htp.p(sqlerrm);
    end;
The procedure generates a link to the item filename with a target of "_blank",
which opens the file in a new browser window. Replace the baseURL attribute
value with the correct Database Access Descriptor (DAD) and Document Access
    Path ("/docs") for your site.
    2. Grant execute on the procedure to the portal public schema. The name of this
schema is <portal schema>_PUBLIC. So if your portal schema is PORTAL30, grant
execute on the procedure to PORTAL30_PUBLIC.
    3. Create a custom item type, using the base item type of "File". I recommend
that you create the type in the Shared Objects content area, so it can be used
in other content areas (from the Navigator, go to the Content Areas tab, select
Contents for Shared Objects, Custom Types, and Item Types - Create). Edit the
    Text continued in next action...
new type and go to the Procedures tab.
    4. In the Procedure Call Properties, enter:
    Type: PL/SQL
    Procedure Call: <your procedure schema>.OPEN_FILE
Link Text: Open File (it doesn't matter what you put here - it only displays if
"Display Procedure Results With Item" is unchecked.)
Check "Display Procedure Results With Item"
    5. Under "Pass Attributes as Parameters", enter:
    Attribute: Item Id
    Pass As: p_itemid
(Notice how you can pass most of an item's attributes to a procedure. You can
take advantage of this feature to write procedures that give you precise
control over the rendering of your items).
    6. In the properties for the content areas in which the new type is to be used,
go to the Items tab. Specify that you want the new type to be visible. You may
want to hide the base File item type, so users won't be confused by two
    different item types for files.
    7. Edit the folder style for the content area. Go to Folder Layout. Edit the
region properties for each region in which you will be using the new item type.
For each region, replace "Display Name or Image" with "Display Name". "Display
Name or Image" will render the Display Name as a link to your file that opens
the file in the same browser window. "Display Name" simply renders the display
name as text, with no link.
    8. Now you can create items of the new item type. Each item's Display Name will
appear next to a link that says "Open File". Clicking the link will cause the
file to open in a new browser window.
    Hope you find this useful.
But after doing this the issue with this still I am able to see this as link on the page but when I
click on it opens up in current window. But when I click on the header bar that
displays Content Area name then it takes to the content are manager. Here there is
a link that shows OPEN_FILE link and then it opens up in a new window.
But I don't want user to go inside the content manager to see the content to open up in a new window.
I want this same functionality to be there on the page rather then in the content area navigator
    Thanks

can't help being ignorant: what is that?
A shell script for entering the working directory and launching urxvt.
Try it and see if it actually works.
I think I tried something like that but wasn't successful...
