Open windows after restart

Hi there, since I'm using iClouds my iMac opens iCalender, all recently opened Safari pages, iTunes, etc. after every restart. Actually after a restart I would prefer to have all "old" windows closed. Can somebody tell me in which settings I can de-activate this re-openings?

Hello:
Go to system preferences>general.  Uncheck the box "restore windows when quitting and reopening apps."

    Is it possible to automatically restore upon logging in all applications, opened windows and documents running before a reboot of Leopard? It's rather convenient, especially when I have to reboot after an update of the system while working on a dozen of windows. Currently I have to relaunch them all one by one. It is a default feature of KDE, BTW.

    This is a bit too close to a message I'm familiar with that can indicate a hijack on the PC. So just in case I think we'd better try a malware scan.
    Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hours on my Lenovo.)

    Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

  • OSx Mavericks problem with "open windows on restart"

    I noticed that, after upgrading to OSX Mavericks, although not check the box "open windows on restart", windows left open to off, reappear when I make a new log in. Anyone with the same problem?
    Sorry for my English

    This happens quite a bit on the recently released beta's of Solaris Express and I would guess OpenSolaris as well. There was a thread on OpenSolaris.org that Jurgen Keil posted that disables some aspects of the CPU that on my system at least alleviated the issues.
    I've not seen any reports on it from Solaris 10 so it might be unrelated. Which version of Solaris specifically are you using?

  • Mountain Lion opens the programs/windows after restart - sometimes

    Hi
    On ML exists the feature, to re-open all windows after reboot (in the Shutdown-window after pressing the Power-Button.) This option is always disabled.
    But sometimes ML simply starts all the apps and show all the windows, which are opened before shutdown/restart. But: sometimes only - the most time it will work.
    Can someone confirm this?
    Thanks

    How do you disable this annoying "feature".  I don't to wait for all the programs from last use to re open and then have to close them all after I turn on my computer if I'm just there to use one program and get something done !!

  • OS X (Yosemite v10.10 and X Mavericks 10.9.5) switching between/selecting open windows after scansnap v6.3 L23 upgrade

    Mid-2013 13" MBA w/1.7 GHz Intel Core i7 running Yosemite.  ScanSnap auto update ran this evening (02 Nov 14) and upgraded my ScanSnap manager to version 6.3 L23.  Immediately after the update the OS started making different open windows (Safari, Finder, Mail, etc.) active for 1/10th of a second each.  I could select a window but the OS kept making other windows active.  I had enough time to click on one item or type one letter before the OS would make another window active. It was so bad that I couldn't even open safari and conduct a search.  I finally used Time Machine to go back ~1/2 an hour and that seemed to find my problem.
    Not long after I stopped pulling my hair out, my wife started complaining about the same thing.  Mid-2014 MBP Retina running Mavericks 10.9.5 (I hadn't updated her OS yet).  ScanSnap updater ran and updated her ScanSnap manager to v6.3 L23 and she had the same problem.  However, she had unplugged her USB Time Machine backup drive so I couldn't restore her computer to a previous time.  I have tried resetting PRAM (three times), uninstalling the ScanSnap software via safe mode, checking for errant processes via Utility Monitor (none identified) and am now in the process of updating the MBP to Yosemite.
    The best way I can describe the problem is the OS just keeps activating/selecting different windows.  When no windows are open and no programs are running everything seems fine, then when I open only one item (a finder window, for example) the OS starts select it, then not, then selecting it, then not, etc.  If I open more than one window/app it seems to rotate through them.  Problem is that no matter what I do the window I select does not stay selected.

  • How to 'restore open windows on restart' in Snow Leopard

    My 10.6.8 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo laptop is getting really bogged down and slow.  Ocassionally I like to restart it but I lose all my open windows.  Can't seem to find a "reopen windows when logging back in" function.  Anyone know how to do this?

    If you always open the same files then place aliases in a folder - let's call it 'Start' and place it in the Documents folder as an example.
    Then paste this into the AppleScript editor, obviously entering your short name in the approriate place in the path:
    tell application "Finder"
    open every item of folder "Start" of folder "Documents" of folder "(user)" of folder "Users" of startup disk
    end tell
    (There are only three lines in this, don't put a line return in the second one even though the forum will show it as such.)
    Save this somewhere convenient. Open System Preferences>Accounts and click the 'Login items' tab. Click the '+' button and navigate to the script.
    However, if as seems more likely, you want to open a different selection of files each time, dependent on what you were last working on, then I'm afraid this facility is not available in Snow Leopard. You would have to upgrade your System to Lion minimum. (Note that this would disable any PPC programs you have.)

  • When i open firefox after restarting the pc i get a 2nd popup window, which I need to close manually. Why??

    When starting my pc up and opening firefox for the first time, I always get a second window. which despite no menu or header behaves like a second instance of firefox. (not a tab). I have done searches, got add blockers on and removed all malware from my pc using kaspersky latest edition and databases.
    HELP! I don't know where to go next.....

    What is on this second window?
    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • How can I re-open the restore pane that had my saved open windows after a crash? these are not in the history section

    After a "unexpected closure", firefox saves the windows you are using.
    This window did not re-open after an update/re-start (usually, all open firefox windows open after any restart).
    My question is, how can I get this window open again? The visits are not in the history section. I have many, many windows that were marking work, so I need to have that list.

    '''aj34977:''' While it is nice of you to make this comment, you might want to read my first post again. The answer you suggest is actually mentioned there, in my list of things that did not fix the problem.
    This is not to diminish the fact that this worked for you (and no doubt many others) but there are already several posts about that particular solution and -- as stated -- this was about what to do when that (and several other proposed fixes) did not work.

  • Configuration Manager Reopens Closed Windows After Restart

    I've noticed that on different computers after we install updates over the weekend and log back in some applications will automatically open and restore. Is this normal behavior after a system center restart?

    This is standard Windows Restart Manager behavior in Windows and has gotten more robust over the years as Windows itself has matured and as mentioned by John and Tim, has nothing to do with ConfigMgr.

    Correct. AE projects are not backward compatible - unless explicitly saved down to CS6 from CC.

  • Mavericks: Delay in opening files after restart or sleep.

    Hi,
    I have an Early 2003 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and SSD Drive. I installed Mavericks from scratch twice and this problem persists.
    After my machine goes to sleep or rebooted, when opening MACINTOSH HD, it takes about 15 seconds to show the files within that folder. That delay is really starting to annoy me and I have done a restore from factory twice and the problem persists.
    Is this happening to you? How do I fix it?

    Hi TBA1959
    If you want to fix your problems you need to start a new Discussion.
    The OP has an Early 2003 MacBook Pro. No one knows what that is.

  • Firefox keeps opening window after window on it's own

    Very often, when I try to run my firefox to explore various websites, it will suddenly start jumping to a different site. If I hit the back button, it goes back to where I was, and immediately jumps forward again. If I close the browser, a new one opens up...sometimes three or four windows at a time. I am currently using a Windows 7 machine, but it also occurred on my Windows XP computer. This has happened on 2 machines, both connected and disconnected from my wireless network, and with differing softwares loaded on each. Therefore, I firmly believe it must be something wrong with the software itself.

    You may have a content type incorrectly set to "Use Firefox". This article should help - [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], start with the section "Change the action for a content type".

    Is there a way to get Safari NOT to open previous windows on restart?

    When you launch Safari, hold the SHIFT key.
    Alternatively, disable the window restore feature in Sys Prefs > General: "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps," or uncheck the box for restoring windows after restart in the restart pop-up box.
