Open Windows doc on Mac without Windows software?

I'm thinking of switching to a Mac, and was wondering if I am able to open a Windows document on a Mac without installing the Windows software.

I don't know what a "Windows document" is.
If you are talking about a Microsoft "Word" document then you have several choices to open it on a Mac.
Word for Mac
OpenOffice
Install Windows on the Mac and open the document with MS Word
I'm sure others will have many more suggestions.

I thought that might be the case, so I preemptively expanded the mac partition to fill the entire disk, and retried -- it did not work. I think, at this point, my best bet might be to reinstall OSX from scratch, enable file-vault, and then repartition and install the other OS's.

You cannot access iCloud on a Mac running Mac OSX 10.4. Are you sure, the system version is correct?
If you are running iWork '09 (iWork 09 9.0.1) on your Mac with Numbers 2.3, you must at least have MacOS X 10.5.6 installed.

Error Message when opening attached doc with Mac for Word 2008

When I try to open attached docs of any any sorts (mainly word/pdf) I get an error message that wont allow me to open the attachments, please help!!

My issue is that I have a MacBook air. I lost everything that came with it. I don't have the CD for the software. Not knowing I needed the CD to install the software (because on my imac i never needed to), I restored my macbook to factory settings. When I tried to turn it on again, it said I needed to install mountain lion. I tried but it said I haven't bought the mountain lion with that apple id. So I did exactly that. I bought the mountain lion software with that apple id. The payment was confirmed and I received an e-mail with the info and the access key or something. I went to the website and it says my order is complete. Except that when I come back to my computer and type that same apple I.D. It says mountain lion wasn't bought with that I.d. But I had just done that.
So what could to install mountain lion on a computer that currently doesn't have any softwares intalled? Why is it saying I didn't buy it when I just did and the status here says it's complete?

Reinstalling to factory settings does install OS X.

Can't open, create docs or close app

Really frustrating issue I'm having here. I was editing a document in Pages, and when I went to drag and drop a picture into the document the whole thing crapped out.
Here are the main issues:
• Main window refuses to display contents. Editing window is entirely transparent (though still closable by clicking where the X button is normally located). New document window is an empty black box. Again, this window remains 'functional'. I can choose a template blind to create a new document, but I can't see or edit the doc.
• Opened the 'About Pages' window to get the version number, and oddly even this window is bugging out for me and is not closable.
• Force quitting the app works. It's the only way I can restart or shutdown my computer as quitting the app normally just results in an endless hang.
Stuff I've tried:
• Force quitting and restarting/Force quitting and shutting down
• Repairing disk permissions.
• Deleting the Pages plist file in Library
• Deleting and re-downloading and reinstalling the app
Here are some screenshots. In the first you can see the blacked out 'New Document' window. In the second, you can see the completely transparent and non-editable document window.

No easy way. Unless you use the same username and the same password on both system then you have to enable Windows File Sharing (SMB) in Sharing, add your Mac username and type in your password in the options of Sharing and then set a NetBIOS name and a workgroup name that is the same on both Windows and Mac. That is in the Network section under advanced WINS tab.

Hi, I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 operating system. When we purchased the computer, I knew I would have friends that used a windows operating system, so we purchased the mac for windows software. Sometimes we I am sending an attachment to an email that I know I have "saved as" in a doc. format rather than a docx., why can't the party open the attachment. They said it was a DAT file? Could I be doing something. I do apologize up front if this not something I can post. I am trying to solve this problem myself rather than spending the money for tech support. Thank you. esrmp2

I really don't understand what you mean by "Mac for Windows software."
Unfortunately, the problem lies with the recipient's mail program, likely Outlook. Have they saved the attachment to their hard drive first? Have you tried sending it as a PDF? That might let them open the attachment.

Can I use Remote Desktop to run Windows software from my Mac

Here's what I want to do:
1) Set up a small office LAN with an Apple Xserve as the file server; clients are mostly iMacs but a few PCs.
2) There are one or two software apps I need that exist only in the Windows world (such as a good document comparison software like DeltaView).
3) I want to have one dedicated PC for my one or two essential Windows apps and then run Remote Desktop Connection on my Mac client to launch the Windows app on the PC client and use it to edit or otherwise manipulate a data file stored on the server.
Is this possible?

OK, maybe I'm missing something basic but then why would I ever want to run Windows network in my office? The bugbear about Macs is that there is certain Windows software for which there is no good Mac equivalent. But you are telling me that as long as I have a couple of Windows boxes, I can run my Windows software on them through my Mac, even though the data files are stored on an separate box (an Xserve).
Now, for the $64 question -- is it possible to set up a network in such a way that I could use RDC on my PowerBook in, say, Chicago to run the software installed on the Windows box and in turn to open and manipulate the files stored on the Xserve in my office, halfway across the world in Abu Dhabi? Would this be a particularly difficult configuration?

Firefox asks (twice) to save and close tabs, on new open windows without tabs, when i close them.

About one month ago, i started to receive a message box from firefox, asking if i wanted to save and close tabs, on newly open windows (and pop-ups) without any tabs open on them.
And everytime i close the windows without tabs, firefox asks it twice...
I did not made any changes, so i don't know why it started doing this.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
