Open with choice - cs5 32 or 64 bit

OK, since the plugin programmers haven't all caught up with 64 bit, I'm forced to use the 32 bit version of Photoshop cs5.
Is there a way in bridge that I can set the open with menu to allow me a choice of the 2 versions of Photoshop CS5 (32 & 64 bit)??

In Bridge you can set certain files types to open in 32 bit version by setting it in /preferences/file type association.
If you want to open 32 bit PS in general the best bet would be to put a 32 bit and 64 bit shortcuts on the desktop.

  • Help: Can't open TIFF in ACR from bridge. ACR not an "Open With" choice

    Hi,
I have a TIFF file on my OS 10.4.11 desktop. I open CS3 Bridge and select the file ( A TIF from a scan generated in SilverFast AI Studio) I right click the file and the drop-down menu shows me CS3 as an "Open With" choice but I do not see ACR as a choice. I choose CS3 and it opens in CS3. As I have TIFF and JPEG files as a default for ACR when I choose a JPG and CS3 it opens in ACR... why not this TIFF? Could it be that as it was scanned with a bit depth of 48 ACR can not interpret it?
How can I add ACR as a choice in "Open With" so that when I right click any image file on my Mac desktop I see ACR as a choice?

I actually slightly prefer the NikonScan software to Silverfast's so I only use NikonScan with my Coolscan and scan to 14-bit RGB Tiffs.
For the larger format film, I use Silverfast with the Epson 4990 and do the same thing.
Then I open the resulting Tiffs in ACR 4.4.1 (hosted by Bridge) to do any preliminary color- and tone- corrections before proceeding to Photoshop.
I have not found a need for HDR when working from Color NEGATIVE film (but I do remove the ridiculous Shadow/HL clipping that these scanner software manufacturers seem to program into their default settings!) and I don't use "slide" film.

  • "open with" launches CS5, but doesn't load JPG?

I am a newbie to Mac, but loving it. When I right-mouse click an image file (such as a JPG) and choose "open with" Photoshop CS5, Photoshop launches but doesn't open the image. The image opens fine from the CS5 open dialog box. "Open with" works well for my other apps. I don't want to permanently associate CS5 to my image files. I've spent hours searching the net for an answer only to find this same question in a couple of places with no replies.
I'm running an 8 core MacPro with OS X 10.6.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, CS5 rocks!

Launch the Terminal app (/Applications/Utilities/), copy & paste in this one-line command, hit the return key, quit Terminal, and restart. The command resets the LaunchServices database.

  • Seeing duplicates in my Open With choices

Just recently I've noticed that when I Ctrl-Click on a file and choose Open With I see every option listed twice. You can see an example of this at http://snipurl.com/n098-SI0YS.
This happened before I updated to 10.4.5.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Limit "open with" choices

Is there a way to limit the list of "open with" in the file menu? I notice with an old version of Adobe CS2 I have a bunch of useless .exe files and I hate MS files (no windows on my Mac). Obviously I don't need them but they started showing up with viewing image files. Shorting of deleting them, I'd rather just not see them anymore.

Archive 'em, that's what I did. I just left the one I do occasionally use out of the archive, and zipped all the rest, after making a list of what they were and leaving that in the folder with the zipped droplets. Be sure you also zip the ones for ImageReady--there are actually more of them there are the Photoshop ones. I doubt you'll ever miss any of them.

  • Today's Firefox upgrade doesn't let browser open normally, a little box opens with choices "file" "edit" "view" .

After today's (October 13) Firefox upgrade, browser doesn't open normally. Instead, a small box appears with the choices of "file" "edit" and "view". Choosing "full screen" under "view" opens to include the entire page...the normal bottom and top lines are gone. You need to fix whatever you messed up. Windows Vista 2, 32-bits.

  • Camera RAW 6.2 sharpening isn't used when open with Photoshop CS5.

    Greetings,
Lately I've noticed when I sharpen a photo in Camera RAW 6.2, that sharpening isn't carried over when I open it in Photoshop CS5.  It doesn't mater if I open or open as a Smart Object.
Also, I don't know weather this is associated or not, some adjustments don't appear to take effect.  Color or detail adjustments don't seem to take affect.

  • CS5, Windows 7 and the 'OPEN WITH' command fails

I am having an 'issue' with the OPEN WITH command under Windows 7.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (fully updated) edition and my system meets all of the advertised Adobe requirements.
If I open Photoshop CS5 (64-bit); it will work OK and as expected in all cases. However, if I right click on a .jpg file (or any other graphic file) and select, OPEN WITH, then select Photoshop CS5 from the list, Photoshop appears to be trying to run, then the system reports that it has failed to open. Yet, if I open Photoshop first, then open the file from within the prog, it opens OK and Photoshop works as expected.
Has anyone else come across this behaviour ... and more importantly, does anyone know what is the cause of this and how to resolve the issue ??
    Many thanks.

Nope, when I right-click a JPEG, Open With, Photoshop CS5 results in Photoshop CS5 x64 starting and the image opening.
I tested it with both Photoshop not running and with Photoshop already running.
    I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.
You say the system reports an error...  Have you looked in the Windows System Event Log (or Application Event Log)?  More information may be provided there.

  • Updated to Indesign CC and Incopy CC = sluggish server for icap & idap trying to open with CS5.5

    1. The local editors (PC) cannot open the Incopy assignments from the server, like before. When they have tried this, they get font errors and/or extremely slow open. If the Incopy does open, it takes several minutes to make each change.
In order to bypass this, the designer has to package the Incopy assignment and email to them.
    2. The other side of the problem occurs when the editor emails back the package to the designer (Mac). Normally, we have been able to double click the package within the email and it opens into Indesign and updates. Now if we do this, the package tries to open with Indesign CS5.5. I placed my Incopy CS5.5 and Indesign CS5.5 into the trash, but it still tries to open with the old application.
In order to bypass this, the designer has to drag the .idap package to the desktop, attempt to open it, save the files to the computer because of an error message, replace the .icml file and then go back to the original indesign file and hope that it updates with the editors corrections. Another work around has been to drag the .idap package over the Indesign CC app.
Not a really efficient way to use this Indesign/Incopy workflow, I know. Perhaps I'm overlooking an easy solution. Please help.
    Thank you, in advance.

Simply try saving with the same name. It will effectively over-write your file as you want. The "[converted]" I find this to be a courtesy to let you know at a glance that you're working on an older version document. As far as the path issue, I can't answer that, as I use a third party program which, with a single keystroke, takes me to the original folder the files resides in. It's called Default Folder, and I've found it indispensable since 1999. Try it, you'll love it. It's from St. Claire Software.
    Cheers!

  • Issue with 'open with' bridge cc

    hey all,
i've searched and all the discussions that 'start' with a similar question, get diverted, or people who are 'trying' to help don't really read the question, so here i hope to make is clear so the correct answer will be provided.
specs - windows 8, adobe cc suite (all updated), mainly use pshop, ai, acrobat, lightroom, dw.
BUT i have pshop and ai cs6 STILL installed, because a couple filters / plugins (nik) didn't work on CC when it was initially released.  so now nik (google) is all happy with CC so i uninstalled pshop / ai cs6.  but now in bridgeCC when i right click on an icon / file i'm given only one 'open with' option.  so if it's a pdf that i want to open with pshop or illustrator, it shows the default 'adobe acrobat' to open with, which is correct, but i used to get the option of acrobat / pshopCC / illustratorCC but now only acrobat.
i KNOW i can go to bridgeCC preferences and change the default to something other than acrobat but then it won't give me acrobat anymore. i want the old options of having a CHOICE as the pdf may be best edited in illustrator or pshop.
even when going to bridge FILE>OPEN WITH it only gives one option.
thinking it may have been that i uninstalled pshop / ai cs6, i then uninstalled bridgeCC and redownloaded but it still gave me only one option on 'open with'
this was caused by UNINSTALLING pshop cs6 and ai cs6.  i know this as fact because i did a system restore and the options came back.  but since i'm not using pshop / ai cs6 anymore, i would like to uninstall them to as i'm not using them.
i've seen other people with this issue but the answer is never clear or gets sidetracked to a regedit issue, which i don't believe is true as when i right click on a file in windows explorer i can do PROPERTIES and change the associate file with but to be clear in BRIDGE CC i want MULTIPLE OPTIONS of programs / apps to open a file with.
hope this makes sense and thanks in advance.

You can add anything you want via scripting, here is an example of setting up Photoshop CS5, Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 to OpenWith.
Save the script as PLAIN text and save it with a .jsx extension.  In Bridge goto Preferences - Startup Scripts and click the "Reveal My Startup Scripts"
this will open the folder where the script should be saved.
    #target bridge

The following should fix the problem. Note that I take no responsibility for  what this does or may do, so you're on your own. I have had no problems with  it, but that is no guarantee of anything.
Create  a new text document (name it whatever you like), and change the  extension to .reg; this will specify it as a Windows registry file  entry. Copy and paste the following into the document:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project]
    @="Adobe Premiere Project"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\DefaultIcon]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe\",1"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell]
    @=""
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell\open]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe\" \"%1\""
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project]
    @="Adobe Premiere Project"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\DefaultIcon]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe\",1"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell]
    @=""
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell\open]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Adobe.Premiere.Pro.Project\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe\" \"%1\""
Save the file, and then simply double-click it. A  dialog will appear asking if you want to add this information to the  registry--click Yes if you do (which I assume is why you're asking).  This will reassign the extension to the shell command to open a .prproj  file to Premiere Pro CS5--nothing more.
Again, I accept no responsibility for this if it melts your hard drive, calls you names, and kicks you in the shin. Registry hackery is not for the faint-of-heart, but in terms of potential for mishap, this rates about a 1.2 on a scale of 10.
Thanks For the Info I Tried that before and It still didn't help But I finally figured it out with another program and It seemed to clear everything up

  • Illustrator won't display in "Open With..." list in XP

    Hi,
I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but I'll ask anyway. When I right-click a PDF and go to "open with" Illustrator CS5.1 is not there...perfectly normal on a fresh install. However, when I click "browse" and find the illustrator.exe file and select that, it won't add to the list. It's as if I clicked cancel instead of open. The same thing happens if I click Properties on the file and try to change the program that the file opens with.
It's no big deal, but it's just quicker to open a PDF with Right-click>Open With>Illustrator, rather than launch Illustrator and go File>NavigateReallyStupidLongFolderStructureOnCompanyServer>File.pdf>open.

you could add an Illustrator shortcut to the Send to...Folder
    - hit Win+R to bring the Run dialog
    - type sendto, to open the Send to Folder
    - right click an empty area, and select "New" -> "Shortcut"
    - browse to illustrator.exe, to add the shortcut
or if you're comfortable editing the registry, you can add Illustrator to the OpenWithList menu
    - bring up the Run dialog
    - type regedit
    - browse to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.pdf\OpenWithList
    - right click on it and select "New"->"Key"
    - rename to "Illustrator.exe"

  • Why is the "open with" option always grayed out when I click on a file link?

For example, when accessing an email account with firefox and I click on an .mp3 attachment the "open with" choice is always grayed out. This issue is not exclusive to email attachments rather all file links that I click on any site give me the same result. I am using MAC OS X Mavericks.
How can I restore the "open with" selection?

  • "Open With:" option reverts to previous app, how do I fix?

    Hello
I installed the CS6 suite today, but I still want Photoshop documents to default open in CS5. When I get info on a .psd, I can change the "open with" to CS5 and press the "Change All" buttn, but it reverts back to CS6 when I click the "Accept" button on the following dialog box:
Are you sure you want to change all your Adobe Photoshop CS6.app documents to open with the application “Adobe Photoshop CS5.app”?
Any ideas here? I don't know how to fix this.
