When I click on "open with" to get more information on a file, how do I change the application that I use to open that file? Why are some applications listed grayed out, while other applications can be chosen?

If you're using the 32-bit version and still having issues, you may need to repair or reinstall Office so that the underlying Office DLLs (on which those browser features rely) are clean.

You might be using 64-bit Internet Explorer. Switching to 32-bit IE caused the featured to become enabled. There was absolutely no indication in the application that this could possible be the cause. It was a shot in the dark.
Mind: blown.
The Plan Browser Support article on TechNet lists the supported browsers and limitations in "non- or partially supported browsers".
It states the following among the limitations for 64bit IE 7, 8 and 9:
Explorer view
Removed in SharePoint Foundation 2010. Libraries that have been upgraded from earlier versions of SharePoint Foundation 2010 may still have Explorer views and these may not work.

hi, sometimes big images could not open with photoshop.ı can open with windows but cant open photoshop.if ı try to open i am seeing a white image.is there any answer for this problem please.

Just to assist those who might help you with this, please give the exact version of Photoshop CS6 you are running, for instance CS6 13.0.1.3.
I had already asked for that in my previous post, but I guess you didn't quite know what I was referencing when I typed "exact version".
Sorry, I cannot help you myself because I don't deal with that kind of 3D images, don't use Windows, and in all frankness I'm not quite following your last post.
Also please give the exact model of your graphics card, so they can check whether it is on the list of cards tested by Adobe.
    Thank you.

  • Open With Windows Explorer very slow

I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where some users of our SharePoint environment have problems using the open with windows explorer option in a document library.
For some users this works fine...  the explorer opens quickly and they can manage the documents.
For other users it takes up to 5 minutes before the explorer view opens.  During this time the browser becomes completly unresponsive.
As part of the troubleshooting process I tried taking the UNC path that is shown in the explorer view and tried using the Start -> Run and then entering in the path.   This seems to cause the complete desktop to freeze until the explorer window displays.
This is occuring on Windows XP SP Pro SP2 with both IE6 and IE7.   The desktops are on the same domain as the SharePoint servers.
    Any thoughts on next steps?

I had similar issues with WSS 3 and MOSS 2007.  Some users would experience slow load times when using IE8.
    A. The authentication fix for Microsoft included the following:
    In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > WebClient > Parameters, add a new Multi-String Value named "AuthForwardServerList".
In the Value data field, add one URL you visit, following by the SharePoint server FQDN on the next line.  Repeat for each URL you are having long wait times for.  In the end, you'll have something like:
    https://*.yourdomain.com
    sharepointservername.yourdomain.com
    https://otherspsite.yourdomain.com
    otherspservername.yourdomain.com
The idea behind this is to explicitly tell WebDAV where to first go for authentication.  This cleared up the majority of access speed issues with SP and we were back to sub-second access.
    B. Occasionally that access would degrade for some reason for certain users.  Turns out to be MS updates that make changes to IE settings.  We go to IE Options > Advanced Settings tab and hit RESET.  Whatever RESET does fixed the speed
    issues with Explorer View.
    C.  Users who installed IE9 had major problems where access would take more than one minute to access these document libraries via Explorer View.  And that's one minute for every navigation click.  Double-click on a folder, wait a minute.
IE9 must have changed the authentication methodology for WebDAV since this was universally experienced for all IE9 users.  MS couldn't provide a resolution on this.  Our fix was to remove the IE9 update and revert back to IE8.  Everything
went back to normal without having to make any changes to the Registry or IE settings.  Doh!

  • Safari 6.0, what happened with option to open with windows from last session?

Made the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and realized that I don't longer have the option to open Safari with windows from last session (Preferences->General). The option has been removed:

They don't. I can access them by history ->reopen all windows from last session, but that's not what I want.
Does anybody else have this problem or is it just me that lost that option on Preferences -> General?

  • Restoring option with save as/open with window...

When saving a file from the interwebs I used to be given the option open with/save as with a box to tick to "do this everytime". I accidentally clicked the box when saving as so now it does this everytime. I'm sure it's pretty simple, and feel really stupid asking as this sort of thing is usually easy enough but I now can't get the option back, I am now defaulted to "save as" everytime. Is there something simple I'm overlooking?

Maybe, you can fix this problem by changing default action/instruction for required file type using special tab in option menu (sorry, I have no english Firefox version and can't name it exactly, but it must be something like "Applications", a tab near "Privacy", the 4th tab in "Options" (Mb, "Preferences") window).

  • Itunes 10.5.1 doesn't open with windows 7 64 bit

i have just purchased a new HP laptop with windows 7 64bit and have installed itunes. all the files have installed correctly but the program doesnt open. any ideas ?

    1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Info.lib file:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3.  If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime.  START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REAPIR.

  • Photoshop CS5 will NOT open with Windows 8

I have photoshop loaded on an external hard drive. I was using Windows Vista, but that computer crashed. I purchased a new computer already loaded with Windows 8. Photoshop will not open. I do know there is nothing wrong with the version of Photoshop because if I take the external hard drive to a different computer, it'll open and work fine.
I have changed the compatibility to everything in the list, and nothing works to open Photoshop. I do not have the disk, so I can't uninstall/reinstall, but it's on an external hard drive to begin with.
    Any ideas?

When you install on an external drive it writes files to the C drive on the computer you installed from.  PS will not work if you plug external into another computer as it does not have the licencing files on the other computer.   So in effect the external is only good for one computer.

  • Unwanted Firefox entry in the Open With Windows Explorer menu

Open Windows Explorer and right-click various file types. You'll see there's a submenu called "Open with" that allows you to choose a particular application. Firefox is listed for numerous file types it can't actually handle, like RAR and MKV.
Does anyone know why? I've never attempted to open those file types with Firefox, though I did download such files with Firefox. I can't find any bug reports about this, and the above seems like too little information to file a report.
I'm not the only one with this issue:
    * http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2870531

After cleaning the registry manually, I haven't been able to trigger this.
    * I now have RAR under Options → Applications again after downloading a file of that type. The respective file type doesn't have Firefox under the "Open with" menu in Windows Explorer.
    * I set Firefox as the default browser when installing. Then I set Internet Explorer as the default using the Control Panel, then Firefox again when prompted at startup. Since it's one of the few times Firefox interacts with the registry, I thought it might trigger the issue — it didn't.
Since I can't recreate this, I think we can consider it a rare occurrence and forget about it. Thank you all for replying.

There's something screwed up in Firefox 31 and 32 with regards to Firefox messing with Windows OS File Associations […]
Being Sunday, I'm too lazy to search for the relevant Bug report.
    * [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1049521 Bug 1049521] - Be less aggressive about non-primary file type associations in Firefox on Windows
That's the bug report about Firefox inadvertently stealing the file association for PDFs. That didn't happen on my system. I also don't see how this could be related. The PDF association is set on install, and reinstalling Firefox didn't change the "Open with" list for the previously affected file types.
Then again, the patch on bug 1049521 touches the ''OpenWithList'' registry keys, which is what I manually cleaned up. It also handles more than PDFs: I spotted media file types like OG? and WEBM, but not MKV or any of the previously affected file types on my system.

  • Iview opening with window sap.tx file

    Dear All
When I click on Iview (ITS) , one popup window is opening with sap.tx.
How to close this. It should not appear.

    Dear Yogesh,
I have had the same issue earlier.
This is encountered for the following reasons.
    1. SAP Gui is not installed properly
    2. SAP Gui is not on the latest patch level.
Ensure this is not an issue for you.
Once you have made this sure,
On your system that the error is occuring.
    1. Open a windows browser.ie double click on My Computer
    2. Tools-Folder Options-File Types- SAP Gui and go to the advanced button.
    3. Here you ensure that the "confirm open after download" is unchecked.
4, Go back to the file types and observe if you find any thing dat says sapgui.tx and delete the entry as well.
    This will resolve your issue.
    Cheers!

  • Emailing song to open with Windows Media Player

Does anyone know how to send a song from iTunes to someone as an email attachment that will be in a format Windows Media Player can open?
When I copy a song it always comes out as a Real Player file. I want it as a Windows Media Player appropriate file.

You're not going to be able to convert a m4a (which can be played in iTunes OR real player) file like that on the fly. Especially if it's a protected file that was purchased from the iTunes Store. If it wasn't purchased from the iTunes Store, you can find a converter program that will convert the files to WMA. Just google it -- I am sure they exist. From there, you can email it as a WMA.
Or, you could convert the song (if it's not protected) into an mp3 file within iTunes. The mp3 file could be email and opened within Windows Media player.
