OpenDNS blocks Mail on iOS
Hi:
We installed OpenDNS at home to help manage access to the internet for our children. It is a great product, but several bugs have appeared.
With the initial install, iCloud on Safari on our Macs was blocked. We had to add "www.icloud.com" to the White list.
Now we have another issue that I cannot figure out: our iPads and iPhones can access the web (internet via Safari), but no longer can send or receive mail in the dedicated "Mail" app, when using the home wireless network.
If we turn off wireless (the connection to our OpenDNS "filtered" home network), Mail works just fine over the cellular (Verizon and AT&T) networks. But if we turn off cellular network access and turn on only home wireless access, Mail no longer works.
Notes seems to have similar issues, although Notes has been "buggy" in its own right, so the issues we are having with it may or may not be related to OpenDNS.
Are there certain websites that we need to "Whitelist" on OpenDNS to allow Mail to work from our iOS devices? If so, we would really appreciate getting a list of these. And if anyone knows of different sites which must be unblocked to allow "Notes" to work that would be great, too.

I go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > iCloud (enter a pw) then see MyName. At the bottom of that screen it says Advanced>Mail so I click that and at the bottom of the ensuing screen it says Outgoing Mail Server>SMTP iCloud SMTP Server and screen after that just say "iCloud SMTO Server". This doesn't seem to be www type address. How do I whitelist this, or do I need more information? I can't see Outgoing Mail Server - SMTP anywhere here? Am I doing something wrong? PS it is iOS 8.1.3

I have a google apps mail account in the form [email protected] I have successfully set up both my mac (A1342) Mail and my iPhone (5c) mail so I get my account on both devices. However, when I read an email on my iphone, it remains unread on my mac (and vice versa). But if I read an email on either, the copy in my Gmail inbox on the web is correctly changed to read. How do I set up my mac Mail and iOS mail so they interact with eachother?
I am running OSX 10.9 and iOS 7.Set the account (on the Mac) as an Imap account, it seems as though it is currently set as POP.

Can't send mail on iOS 5 devices with iCloud
A long time ago I signed up for a .Mac trial to use that address with iChat. The trial expired, and, as expected, the address continued to work with iChat, though it no longer functioned as an email address. It then came to be my Apple ID. Now, having set that Apple ID up for use with iCloud, my iOS devicess are having trouble sending, and only sending email from my iCloud address. The reason is this: I logged into <username>@mac.com for iCloud (as that's my Apple ID), and everything set up right except the mail address that iOS Mail thinks I have. It thinks the mail address for the iCloud account is <username>@mac.com. When I send mail to <username>@me.com, my iOS devices get it just fine, but when I try to send mail back, it tries to send it from the @mac.com address, and therefore fails as that is not a valid email address.
I've tried to go into the settings and change the email address that it uses for iCLoud, but with no luck. I see a place to change it, but it is grayed out and won't let me select it and bring up a keyboard to change it.
Is there any way to tell it that it assumed the wrong email address for my iCloud? Or is there no way to send iCloud email from my iOS devices?

P.S. I can send mail via iCloud from the web app and from Apple Mail (OS X Lion), but not from iOS devices because of this glitch. I can also send mail from iOS devices using other email accounts (Gmail, Yahoo).I found a work around that works. Got to Settings...Icloud....account......advanced....outgoing mail server.....
Add an "other" server.
Host Name p01-smtp.mail.me.com
Put in your me.com email address as username and your Apple ID password
SSL is on
Authentication is password
Server port 587
This worked for me.....I will use this until the bug is fixed. (you may need to use p02, p03 etc) Don't make this server your primary. Leave it in "on" status in the other category.

I am an iOS 5 and OS X Lion User in Germany and I have following question concering Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud.
I have a MacBook Pro 13" with OS X Lion 10.7.2 and an iPhone 4 with iOS 5. I also have an iCloud account (I switched yesterday from MobileMe).
When I receive a new e-Mail it will be pushed immediately to my iPhone an my MacBook. When I open this new e-mail on my iPhone, it is immediately marked as read on my MacBook. But when I open the new e-mail on my MacBook, it is not marked as read on my iPhone. I have manually to sync mail first.
Does anyone know if this feature is not supported on iCloud and iOS 5? Thanks for your help!Add me to the list of people having this problem.
I have 1 Gmail account a 2 Google Apps accounts and this happens with all 3. If I read a messaging in Mail.app, it DOES get marked read on my iPod Touch, though.
If I read the emails on my iPod Touch, BlackBerry, or Gmail web interface, the read status does not get synced back to Mail.app unless I close and re-open it.
Not sure if this is an Apple issue or a Gmail issue, but it's VERY annoying and somewhat defeats the purpose of using IMAP. -
When I open a word document attachment in mail for IOS 7.1.1 the previous jpeg is showing on the first page. When I open the attachment from mail in mac OS X the jpeg does not appear. Can anyone help?

The mail app will not display fillable form fields in PDF files that can be seen in real PDF apps. I say real PDF apps because the form fields in PDF apps will not appear in the iBooks app either. IMO, iBooks is not a real PDF app.

You seem to have found the right setting. From my notes:
Add the following line to $ORACLE_HOME/search/webapp/config/search.properties and then restart oc4j:
ses.qapp.similar_doc_handling=disabled
Maybe you didn't restart oc4j (using "searchctl restart")? -
Attachments sent through Mail in iOS (any version) are received as corrupt.
Hello! If I send any attachment through Mail in iOS (can be iPads and iPhones, multiple versions) with my Exchange account, these attachments will arrive to their destination corrupt (as in, they cannot be opened). I've got Exchange 2007 in my company. I know that this is not an iOS problem or Mail problem, since if I send the same exact attachments via another service, say Gmail for example, it arrives correctly to the sender.
I have not done anything to the Exchange server so far, I just wanted to know if there's someone that can lead us in the correct direction.
At first I thought the problem was with iOS since is started around the day we upgraded to iOS 7.1. We've upgraded to the newer 7.1.1 version of iOS but this has not resulted in a correction of the problem.
Any thoughts or ideas?

How do you create folders in mail in iOS eight?
Can anyone tell me if there a way to create new folders in the mail in IOS 8? I'm not talking about POP or IMAP-I don't know what these are and I don't care. In the previous iOS versions, I have always been able to simply create a new folder. Once again, please don't explain about pop and IMAP. I couldn't care less about these things that I have always gotten by fine without. I just want to create a new folder in my stupid email like I have been doing for the last 15 years.

Thanks a lot.If the account allows the creation of folders (if it's set up as a POP account on your iPad then you won't be able to create new folders) then go to the screen with the list of folders that you currently have on the account, tap the Edit button at the top right of that list, and you should then get a 'New Mailbox' button at the bottom right of that list - tap that, type in the folder's name, and select where you want it to go.

Using Mail under iOS, 5 Mail continues to suggest addresses that have been removed from Contacts. How do I remove old, obsolete adreesses no longer in Contacts?
If you open Mail and then in its File menu at the top, click on Window and choose Previous Recipients, you'll get a popup window listing them. At that point, you can highlight and delete any/all.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Why doesn't Mail for IOS show sent items with an IMAP server account. Everything else works okay but there is two sent directories and no contant in any of them ...
Trouble is the same in both iPhone4 and iPad.
Exactly the same account shows everything on my Macintosh. Including Sent items.Using the method described above I see outgoing messages that were sent from Mail on my iMac in the correct mailboxes for 2 different MobileMe accounts.
You seem to be having and issue where your database/setting are corrupted if your messages are in the wrong outbox. I would suggest deleting the accounts from your iPad and the reconfiguring them.
While viewing an email at the top of the screen, left of the trash icon, you should se a Folder icon. Click on that to send the message to another folder. Page 59 of the manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_2_user_guide.pdf
