OpenGL 3.0+ drivers update

Hi all,
When is apple finally updating the OpenGL drivers?
This is becoming ridiculous. OpenGL 4.0 drivers are out for all other OSs! and we still have this OpenGL 2.1 drivers (from 2006!!!!)
And why is my Geforce 9600 GT no performing as it should???
If the same hardware performs several leaps better on other OS (windows 7, for one) how is Mac OS X not worse?
Better get your act together....

Dave is half correct.
We did throw away our old, terrible OpenGL renderer several versions ago.
But we also do still use OpenGL in various places where it makes sense, as described here:
GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects
The reason that After Effects shows OpenGL 2 in the GPU information box is because that is the version that is being used for these features. When the application starts, it tells the OpenGL system what level of features it needs. We're not using any of the more advanced features of OpenGL 3 and later yet.

  • Catalyst drivers update for Satellite L850-150

    Hi,
I've bought a Toshiba Satellite L850-150 (AMD Radeon HD 7670M) 3 days ago and I don't know if getting angry with AMD for restricting their drivers or with Toshiba for not updating their own drivers.
Can you give me a technical reason for making your laptops incompatible with the generic AMD drivers?
I thought an AMD Radeon HD 7670M was an AMD Radeon HD 7670M in a Toshiba, in an ASUS, in an Acer, etc. If you do your laptops incompatible with other drivers, at least, mantain your own drivers up to date.

Well, I have an other notebook from and I can update its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 with AMD drivers.

    >Can you imagine you want to have more and more graphic performance using always newest driver. One day you smell burned graphic card.
The graphics card of my ASUS is in perfect state and it has 4 years, always with updated drivers. Come on, are you going to say to me that driver updates are dangerous to the hardware? I thought they were updated to improve performance and stability without risking the integrity of the hardware. What you are saying is a stupidity, why updating drivers would be harmful to hardware?
Overclocking is dangerous and can burn my graphics card, but I'm talking about drivers, UPDATED DRIVERS, to make the hardware work better (performance and security).

  • No audio from speakers or jack. Sound bar shows audio activity. All drivers updated. HP G62.

I cannot get audio from the speakers or audio jack. All drivers updated, realtek, BIOS F37.
There is activity on the windows sound bar (green level moves) when music is played, however no audio is executed.
HP Support Assistant software was installed, but no detection of the problem.

    Hi vc329,
Doesn't sound like encouraging news, though it is odd that the sound came back for a short while at least.  If you still haven't rebooted the PC since putting it to sleep and loosing the sound, then I would suggested going ahead and rebooting or even doing a full hard reset (power down, remove the AC adapter, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 20 seconds or so, then reconnect the AC power and Battery and boot up) to see if the sound can be recovered again.
If the sound still doesn't work, Check Device Manager to see if the sound driver still looks OK, make sure you are using the latest driver again (it looks like the latest driver is 6.10.6381.0), another option might also be to try the older driver that is still available from the site, or try recovering the original driver shipped on the PC.  The steps to do these things are covered in the document listed below, in Step 6 (Restoring the Audio Driver), Step 7 (Updating the Audio Driver), and Step 8 (Checking Device Manager):
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
If none of that seems to help, I'd recommend testing the hardware using Step 9 in that document.
If the online warranty check sees you as out of warranty, you may still be OK if you have the original proof of purchase (receipt) from wherever you purchased the PC, but you may have to provide it when calling HP for service if the sound can't be fixed.  If you are close to the end of warranty I'd recommend calling customer care for your area (I assume you are still in Asia) and validating the warranty with them as soon as possible just to make sure.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

.Old Creative Sound Blaster Li've Drivers Update? Hey Guys,
In 998 or 999 I installed Sound Blaster Li've! MP3+ in my MicronPC Pnetium? using Windows ME. Subsequently I upgraded my computers to Windows XP professional in 2006. At that timCreative Labs still had some drivers update for this device.
I only used it for listening to muic occassionally, so there is nourgent need for me to upgrade the sound card. But recently I had a spyware scan and since then my sound card stopped wroking. I tried to follow the Microsoft suggestion:

    Enertainment
    Volume Control
    Options
    Adv. Controls
    Advanced Options
    Play Control
Check out the box Digital output only
But I ould not find "advanced options by following the above sequence. I tried to load AudioHQU, but it said that my driver AHQTBU.exe needs to be reloaded.
I tried various web sites and I could not find a site that has the downolads for supporting this old iece of hardware

  • [Solved]Steam - OpenGL GLX problem after update

When I open steam it gives me this prompt:
"OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems.
    For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457."
I had this problem before, but I solved it with this command:
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
But now after newest update, nothing solves this problem. And also I can do nothing about steam updates, beacause steam updates itself. I am using mesa-git drivers for AMD. Everything was working fine before the latest update. The command I shown to you doesn't help now. Steam now launches itself, but all 3D games crash on startup. The output of command glxinfo|grep rendering is direct rendering: yes.

    from the steam output :
libGL error: unable to load driver: r600_dri.so
    libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
Those libraries are in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri , both mesa-git 66716 and mesa-dri 10.3.5 symlink them to the r300_dri.so lib in the same folder.
( this is intentional due to recent changes in mesa).
To verify whether you have an OpenGL problem or a steam problem, try running native opengl applications like Xonotic or Oolite (both are in repos) .

  • Windows XP won't install drivers - "UPDATE" file missing

I have installed Windows XP SP2 successfully ( it was a bumpy road ) and have reached the step where I'm supposed to use a Leopard disc to install the necessary drivers for using Windows with the MacBook hardware (video, speakers, etc). When I insert the Leopard disc a window appears saying that the setup.exe file on the disc is newer than something or other, so I click OKAY ( the Boot Camp instructions say to agree to any windows at this point ). The window goes away, and another one immediately opens saying " the necessary UPDATE file is missing". I click OKAY and the window closes. The End. No driver installation. I can use XP, but there is no sound. Windows Movie Maker won't even launch because it says the audio components are not available. This is probably because the drivers weren't installed. I imagine there will be many other problems.... Anyone have this solution???

Here is a correction to my post. The window says: "This package requires a newer version of Windows Installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?" ( I click yes and the window goes away). The second window says: "The required resource 'Update' is missing". ( I click yes and the window goes away ).
I think maybe XP is trying to download something from the internet and maybe it can't since I probably need the drivers to do that....?

  • Drivers / update problems on X230T

    1. My UltraNav (Synaptics) TouchPoint and TouchPad work only until I log in to Windows (7 Pro x64).  Telephone support suggested (after I got disconnected 3 times) that I use LSC to reinstall the driver, but I find no way to reinstall drivers in LSC.
    2. LSC and Device Manager report a problem with a "Base System Device", but I find no further identifying information in the device properties, and Windows Update fails to locate an appropriate driver.
Presumably this is the related error (as seen in msinfo32):
29.05.2013 17:40    Windows Error Reporting    Fault bucket , type 0
Event Name: PnPDriverNotFound
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

P3:
P4:
P5:
P6:
P7:
P8:
P9:
P10:

...
There are many other error reports with the same fault bucket type, stretching back to my first commissioning of the laptop.
    3. LSC shows no corresponding alerts, but the installation history in TVSU 5.02.0011 reports one package that  "did not install" and one which "did not download".  I was able to find these on the lenovo support page and download them, however, the second (Ericsson F5521 Mobile Broadband Driver) reported "Device driver software was not successfully installed"  and specifically "Base system device - No driver found".  Presumably this is the missing driver from 2  above.  Despite the error message, the installation still demands a reboot.  I have found an additional driver for the Ericsson F5521 on the lenovo support site and will attempt to install it after rebooting.
P.S. The second driver reported  successful installation, and, when subsequently reinstalled, so did the first one.
Unfortunately, the problem with the missing driver for "Base System Device" in Device Manager persists.
Furthermore, since installing the Ericsson drivers, I get a crash report from MobileAccess.exe every time I start the computer.
P.P.S. going back to 1 above, uninstalling the UltraNav driver (from Device Manager) did not help.  I had to uninstall *and* check "delete driver software.  On the next restart, an earlier driver (16.1.1.0) was installed, which works.
Based on the HW ID, the mysterious "Base System Device" would appear to be the SD/MMC card reader.  I found a driver (2.14.18.01) on the lenovo support site and will report back the results of my installation attempt after rebooting.
P.P.P.S.  Unfortunately, the driver installation did not resolve this.  Seeing that the Ericsson driver ahd been installed under "smart card reader", I uninstalled it, deleting the SW, but that didn't help either.  A manual update of the driver for "Base System Device", pointing it at the driver which had been unpacked in C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\multicard\Driver was also unhelpful.  Then I saw this post, and noticed that the HW IDs in risdxc.inf did not match those shown in Device Manager.  I have edited the file and reinstalled, acknowledging the "unsigned driver" warning, which presumably resulted from my tampering with the file.  I will report back after rebooting.
    P.P.P.P.S.  I no longer get any complaints about "Base System Device", and even though I can't find the Ricoh SD/MMC card reader in Device Manager, the card reader seems to work.  Now all I have to do is to reinstall the Ericsson driver ;-}
P.P.P.P.S. After reinstalling the Ericsson driver, LSC shows a clean bill of health.  However, MobileAccess.exe is still crashing on system start.  Since this page (the only one I could find on Mobile Access) does not mention Switzerland, and since I didn't  get a SIM card from lenovo, I am just disabling startup in msconfig for the time being.  I could have sworn getting it to run immediately after installing the Ericsson SW, and seeing a drop-down list in the Activation Wizard offering Swisscom as provider though !?  Go figure.
    X320T running Windows 8 Pro x64

To get the Ricoh driver installed properly, I had to edit risdxc.inf and reinstall again.
There seem to be 2 HW IDs associated:
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E822&SUBSYS_220317AA
    and
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E823&SUBSYS_220317AA
However, since updating the X230T drivers, my BlackBerry Desktop Software (7.1.0.41) no longer sees my BlackBerry, so I can no longer sync it locally.
The Ericsson adapter seems to be working, even though MoibileAccess.exe isn't. I could get a connection using the Swisscom SIM card out of my BlackBerry.
In retrospect, I should probably have ordered a SIM card from lenovo, as it appears that would have given me 3 months of free mobile WAN via Swisscom. Unfortunately, Switzerland was not listed on the lenovo website as one of the countries in which the offer was available.
I would still be grateful for any hints as to what is wrong with MobileAccess.exe and how to fix it.

  • Intel GMA950 drivers/update help play spore!?

Hi, I am having trouble running spore on my macbook, i am able to play somewhat but i cant seem to view the creature creations part, at certain points the screen is black where it should show color. since this only happens in certain points of the game i am curious if this is fixable with a driver update(where i could get this driver for a intel GMA 950 for mac im not sure) now i know that on the box it says that the game only supports the x1300 intel gpu, but the game runs already on the 950 more-so than not. if someone could help me i would greatly appreciate a link to possibly update graphics drivers if there are any, or if someone knows of a fix for the game spore (note that i have heard of a fix for the mac mini and the game works fine on windows with an intel 950.) just macbook users with a 950 are sitting in the dust. help plz.

I just got an update for my trial edition of the Spore Creature Creator. Previously i wasnt able to run it on my Intel GMA 950 MacBook. Now it runs perfectly after the update was installed. There might be hope for an update to the full game that will allow compatibility with the 950 for the creature creation part.

  • Best practice on drivers update

    How to update driver?
There are so many different types mode of computers. update drives with inf or exe?

You can do it with two ways:
    Application model
    Package / Program
I don't know is there really a 'best practice' though. The driver updating itself is done with this neat little utility called devcon.exe (more info on the syntax it uses here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff544746%28v=vs.85%29.aspx). For the correct version of the utility, you need to download Windows Driver Kit for the correct version of Windows you will be deploying the updated drivers to (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/hardware/gg454513).
Devcon is used for the .inf file updates, for the .exe packaged drivers you simply run the .exe silently. Jörgen has done an excellent sample on this with the application model:
    http://ccmexec.com/2013/10/update-a-device-driver-configuration-manager-2012/

  • What typically is in a bios and drivers update?

So I know computers need to update the bios and drivers, but no one has ever explained why. What is in bios or drivers that would need to be updated?

    Hi,
All computer programs are not perfect therefore from time to time vendors have to release fixes. In many cases, a new fix may introduce new bug(s). Machine readable programs are BIOS, drivers, micro-codes are the same therefore from time to time vendors have to release new fix(es) to imrpove thrie products. Same as application programs and the Operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, DOS ...).

  • OpenGL Outdated, Unable to Update

I have recently discovered that my version of OpenGL (2.1) Is out of date, and not the one that apple says supports my mid-2011 Macbook pro (3.3). I have been told to update the driver, but of course there is no Nvidia GeForce 320M driver for OSX Mavericks. I am definitely no expert on graphics or any of this stuff. Is there a way to update it, or, do I not need to, even though Apple says I should have verison 3.3? Please help, this may be the solution to my long standing problem with gaming on a Mac.
    Computer info:
    GPU: NVidia GeForce 320M 256k
    mid-2011 Macbook Pro
    Current OpenGL version: 2.1
OpenGL versio that Apple says My computer supports: 3.3
If you need any more information on my computer then just ask.

    Neville Hillyer wrote:
OK but is there an option to turn it off? If so give it a try.
FWIW, there is only one graphics controller present in that particular system; that is not the integrated and the high-performance controllers that are present on some of the other MacBook Pro configurations.   I'd expect that attempting to disable the sole graphics controller present would be inauspicious.
To the OP: OpenGL and OpenGL ES are integrated with OS X.  The only way to upgrade them is to upgrade OS X, and if you're running Mavericks, then you have the latest version that Apple is supporting with your particular Mac.
I don't see a 13" MacBook Pro mid-2011 model listed (at all), but I do see a mid-2010 model (MacBook Pro 7,1) with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M.  There is no second graphics controller available in that model.  Both MacBool Pro 2011 13" MBP models (Early 2011 and Late 2011, both are listed as MacBook Pro8,1 — which seems a little odd, but I see several references to that) had Intel graphics, according to the lists I'm checking.
The MacBook Pro 15" models tended to have dual graphics controllers in that era, which is what Neville Hillyer is referencing.
To the OP: can you provide a pointer to whatever software package or tool is requesting an upgrade to OpenGL?  (It would appear the software might not support your particular MacBook Pro, unfortunately.)  Alternatively, check with the support folks for the package, and probably send along your hardware configuration information to them.

  • Boot Camp on rMBP - Games are not working well. Drivers updated, any ideas?

Windows 7 64-bit Drivers are updated, and OS is current (both in the Mac and Win sides).
In Asassins Creed III, the resolution stays at the lowest setting. Any attempt to increase the resolution above the lowest setting (not just to the highest setting) results in a blinking screen and an eventual reset back to the original (low) resolution.
In other games, the mouse appears to be "off" by about 100 pixels to the right. When I click on something, the cursor is not where the clicking happens.
In still other games, the sound is off. Sound seems to be turned down, even though it's at its max in the game's settings. This only happens for some games.
    Any help is appreciated.

Did you check Control Panel>Device Manager  ?
Open up the DVD/CD-ROM Drives and see if your drive is even listed.
If it is try updating the drivers.
If not Run Action>Scan for Hardware Changes and see if Windows finds the Drive.

    Hello all,
I have a TOSHIBA laptop for 2-3 years now, and i am very happy with it in general.
I have noticed though that there have not been any new updated drivers for my ATI graphics card.
After running DxDiag my display driver's info are as follows:
Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
    Driver Version: 8.712.2.1000
    DDI Version: 11
One of the videogames that i have installed, suggested to update my graphics driver.
After checking with the Toshiba website , the latest update was on : 24/02/11 ...
Is there anyway to get the most recent updates for my graphics card please?
    Thank you.

GPUs on mobile machines are not supported as GPUs designed for desktops. There are many reasons for this but most common problem on notebooks is design and limited cooling possibilities.
You know that more performance means more heat and there is the problem. If notebooks cooling system cannot cool down GPU properly you can be faced with suddenly switch offs or with GPU damage.
Anyway, you can try to find newer driver offered for newer notebook model or check GPU manufacturers support page.
