OpenGL? After Effects Issue / Related to Power Surge?

Hello.
I had a power surge that killed the power supply on my Quad 2.5GHZ G5. I got that fixed at the Apple Store, but since getting it back I was getting errors with OpenGL in After Effects. I had to disable it to get faster previews of what I was doing. I have very little understanding of what the OpenGL plug-in does or how it relates to my monitor, but could that power surge have affected this and caused this problem? Hopefully there is enough info here to offer me some guidance.
Thanks in advance.

This may be a specific case of a combination of the graphics card, your RT.X100 and the Matrox CoDecs. I suppose you went with the Parhelia to ensure maximum compatibility to ensure maximum compatibility with the other Matrox stuff and now it's biting you in your behind. I really do think that it's an issue with either Pixel Bender probing the card and not "exiting gracefully" when it finds it incompatible or MediaCore trying to manage your Matrox CoDecs when it isn't supposed to... If you are feeling adventurous, you could try to re-install the system without the video hardware and CoDecs, just the Parhelia and see how AE CS4 behaves, but of course that's just as undesirable. You could also try creating different hardware profiles (via your device manager), but usually, once a system is "polluted" with offending components, this does not bring the desired betterment...

  • Adobe After Effects Issues

Hello I represent the graphic artists of the multimedia department at the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association). We do a show that airs on the Tennis Channel called, "On Court with USPTA" and "Sweet Spots".
We have just made the switch over to HD and are working on PCs (Dell Precision T3400 Work stations) I am running Adobe After Effects CS3 and I am running into several issues and problems with the software. I am doing full screen HD graphics, Lower thirds in HD, and even HD video overlayed with Graphics. Some or most have motion, and I even do 3D text in some. I am running into problems of the software crashing, locking up or bogging down reletivly quickly. I can barely RAM preview anything longer then 3 seconds and if it has audio you can just forget the RAM preview. I was wondering if those of us who do graphics on PCs if their is a way to speed up the software, or an update or even something in the prefences that could speed up it up and stop all the crash's I am getting.

    >and I have tried the multiprocessing and nothing changed.
MP won't do anything on such a system. Simply not enough RAM. Let truth be told, the only real environment that is suitable for MP as AE employs it, are 64bit operating systems (XP64, Vista 64).
As for your other issues - RAM previews can be extended by lowering the comp resolution to Half or Quarter. It's in the nature of the beast - only the frames that fit into RAM can be previewed and the larger the frame, the less of them fit. There is no way to circumvent that. Your only alternative is to enable the disk cache and have AE store rendered frames on your harddrive. this may allow you to use spacebar playback for some segments rather than having to build RAM previews again and again, but it hinges somewhat on the project structure and how working on other segments of the graphics may invalidate cached frames and layers.
Likewise, audio will consume additional memory and further reduce the available duration. It should however not completely screw this functionality, so I can only assume you have a config problem. Therefore check your system's audio settings and the prefs in AE. Ideally, the sample rates and things should match the audio format used in your project and all fancies such as Virtual Surround or acoustic effects be turned off to prevent delay. It also helps to work with uncompressed audio - even though AE has gotten better at handling MP3 et al, it still prefers PCM audio.
Lastly, some similar things do apply to certain compressed video formats - if they use MPEG and its derivatives, AE may need to conform it prior to use and this may cause further hiccups. Using different capture methods and CoDecs may help to prevent that.

  • After Effects Issues Scrub/Crash and Memory Issue.

I am sorry if this is redundant. I have Windows XP (SP3) 3 Gb or Ram and adequite hard drive space. When I run After Effects, it loads fine. Import, fine. Scrub timeline. ERROR: Texture too small, GL error, After Effects Crahses.
Then when I render, my ram reaches 60% stops rendering.
I will dl the updates and see if tha fixes it. In the meantime is there anything I should know or any settings I should use to boost performance?
    Thanks,
    Allan H.B. Martin

Well, for the first error simply turn off OpenGL. Apparently your graphics card is not up to snuff, has a flakey driver or is mis-configured somehow. The second is too generic. When asking such questions, you must provide more info - footages used, target format, effects used etc.. Also have the renderer log more details with the Extra per Frame Info option as well as watching the render status closely (untwirl the details sections to see the current layers/ comps being processed).

  • After effects - issues

    Hello,
I'm working in after effects cs6. Here in the first screenshot of my composition window. Each one of the images scalle up towards the screen and then scales down back to it's orginal position. Then another one does the same.
My issue is if you look at screenshot 2, you see the image in the top left corner is showing over the larger image. How do I move the smaller images behind the larger image?
    Thank you for any advice.

Here's a screenshot, but it's looks a little different from when I asked my origianal question. I split the layers and arranged them to get rid of the smaller images from showing.
Before I did it they way you see it in the screenshot. Basically all the color coded layers which are in set's of 4 was how it looked and they streched the whole timeline. Where now they are split apart.
The layers titled slideshow1-8 is the moving objects
But if I had the 3d layers working like I wanted, then I could have skipped on adding those layers colored in gold closer to the bottom.
    Makes sense?

Try resetting the smc and pram.
    To reset the smc
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    To reset pram
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Wireless weird issue related to power supply

    Hello,
I have been having some issues from time to time with my wireless connection from my MBP to my router . Distance is out of the question since the router is very close to the desk where the mbp stands.
At first i thought it was the router, since its a cheap one. But tonight i had another issue. I just couldnt connect to the router , getting a Connection Timeout error. I looked up a little on google, saw somewhere someone saying something about unplugging all usbs, power source etc. So i unplugged the power cable from the MBP , and voila! it connected. Very strange, i dont know why this should cause an issue...but thats just half of it. As i was mentioning at the beggining of the post, from time to time i had some issues with the wireless connection from the MBP to the router, the issues were bad connectivity. I was testing it via TERMINAL -> ping router_ip ...and getting like 60% or more loss. Since tonight i was 99% sure it was the router's fault, but tonight i thought to try something at one time when the issues surfaced again: i unplugged the power cable from the MBP and..suprise suprise, no more packet losses on the PING results...and i tested...plugged the power cable , PING returning losses (and of course, web pages loading like crap)..unplugg => all fixed.
I dont know what to make out of this...the mbp is new, about 2 months, 17 inch model, 2.8 ghz...Maybe anyone knows anything or had the same issues?

I am having a similar but mirror image of your problem: my network connection keeps dropping out ONLY when on battery power. If I stream music from the Time Capsule router, the connection is solid. If I check the Airport connection in the menu bar, it will return (briefly). When MBP is on AC power, all is good.
I suspect a software problem, perhaps a plist item somewhere is corrupted but where should I look? I migrated all my network settings from a clone of my old MBP which exhibited the same symptoms.
Maybe I will start a new user account just to see if problem is there also.......

  • Issue Relating to Power Cost in Daily Product Costing

    Hi,
We are doing daily product costing. Here we want to allocate the power units of service to production cost centers proportionately on daily basis. Can anyone tell me is there any option in SAP and we need to go for development.

    hi,
Power usage or cost can be apportioned only monthly wise not possible on daily basis. U can run the distribution or assessment cycle only for month wise, but not on daily basis.

  • After Effects Issue uploading to Youtube - Screen Resolution

    Hi All
I've been struggling lately trying to get my set of youtube videos to appear at the proper resolution and ideally fullscreen without the black bars at the side.
    Youtubes recommended sizes:
    1080p: 1920x1080
    720p: 1280x720
    480p: 854x480
    360p: 640x360
    240p: 426x240
My original videos are recorded in 1280x1024 which is what my screen resolution is set to, when I drop these videos into AE i set the comp size to 1280x1024 and i get a normal correct sized video. However when i render it out and upload it to the site I am given black bars down the side of the video and it does not appear full screen. (The quality is not great either if you do go fullscreen mode in the player - but the bars remain)
Now youtube state this is fine and works ok but as a personal preference i'd just like the video to fit the player.
but your not rendering at the recommended settings I hear you say; well, when I change the comp setting to 1280x720 i lose the top of my video and I am stuck as to how to fix it. Is the issue i'm having to do with the original video size, should i change resolution and record at 1280x720 (i dont have a widescreen) or is there a way around this in AE? I hope its not as easy as just scaling the video down in AE and forcing it to fit, something just feels wrong when I do that.
i would apprecaite any help! I really would.
    Simon
(Additional - Recorded at 30FPS and Output in H.284

You should be using the YouTube HD preset in the Adobe Media Encoder and your comps should be either standard HD 1080p or 720p. No matter what you upload to YouTube they will process the footage and set up the other resolution options.
The important thing here is that youTube videos are either 16X9 or 4X3. Anything not at that picture aspect will end up with black borders at the top or on the sides. There is absolutely no way to override this. It cannot be done. The only way you can provide non standard video frame sizes to the public over the Internet is to use a codec that supports odd frame sizes and load it on your own server. All streaming services have standards and they are the same frame size.
If you want to see your entire screen capture then you should either set your screen resolution to 1920 X 1080 and capture that or simply scale your screen capture footage or project so that it will fit into a standard HD comp.
Saving a few KB in file size is not what you are looking for. The best picture and sound quality you can get in a streaming format is. That can only be achieved using the Adobe Media Encoder. The YouTube Presets are already optomized for the best you can get with this software for this delivery format. There is no need to re-invent anything. Just use the presets.

  • Premiere pro CC " Replace With After Effect Composition" Cinema DNG AKA CDNG  Issue

I am trying to right click on a cinema dng file and do a "replace" with After Effects Composition. When doing so it only brings in a single frame rather than the entire adjusted video clip. Does anyone know a solution or workaround? Is Adobe aware of this problem? Will they continue to support Cinema DNG files? or should we lean to another NLE? Please advise adobe.

    Thanks.
After some testing, it looks to be an After Effects issue.  The Replace command did open up AE, create a new project, import the segment of the clip I wanted, and created a proper composition with the correct duration.  It even opened up the Camera Raw adjustment panel for me to play around in.  The problem was that every frame of that 1 second long clip was identical, it was the first frame of the whole clip.
When I went into the Media Browser and opened up the same clip from the hard drive, it too opened up as the whole clip seeing only that first frame.
When I imported using a right click>Import command (exactly what we shouldn't be doing in PP with tapeless media), the clip came in properly with all frames.
So AE is acting weird with CinemaDNG files, it seems.  You may have to start out in AE and DL from there to PP.

You haven't given us much to go on here.  What exactly are you doing and what exactly happens when you try?  Which specific version of each program are you using?  (Go to Help>About...)
On a side note, a simple, brief thread title is all that's needed.  Something like "After Effects Issue" would be fine.  You don't need the full question there.

  • After effects instantly crashes while using opengl with nvidias new drivers 178.24

Since I installed nvidias new drivers 178.24, after effects instantly crashes while using opengl. Anyone else experienced this?
    I have Geforce 8600 GT.
As a minor note, I had major problems with the new quicktime 7.5.5 update, both After effects and Premiere got problems with interpreting footage and frames here and there got the "missing frame" look. I also got more problems so I uninstalled it instantly. Is there a major problem with the update or a major problem with me?
    Thanks

I use Vista (in retroperspective this was probably a mistake, but the company wanted to test the capabilities with Vista when we bought the computer a year ago). And specs are:

Sorry not to give more info on the Quicktime problem, I don't remember exactly what more problems there where as we have had extremely much to do these last couple of weeks and I just freaked out and uninstalled it as soon as the problems emerged. I do remember the frame issue however, it was very clear, i imported an image sequence in premiere and everything worked fine, then i updated and frames were suddenly dropped, then i uninstalled and installed 7.5 again and it worked just fine. I also tried to flush the cache, restart and generally search for the source of the problem for a couple of hours.

Also, Noel Carboni over at the PS forum might have to say a word or two on the drivers... He recommends to not use 13.3 at all and his list of "safe" versions only includes 12.8... You also have an awful lot of CoDecs in your list, so you might consider uninstalling some of them/ the apps that introduced them. This may also help....

  • After Effects Warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

Hi There Fellow Adobe After Effects Users.
Please could some one help assist me with the following error i am getting.
I bought a template and needed to do a logo animation reveal. It was done using After Effects CC for PC.
AE had to then convert it to Mac which did so successfully. I was able to modify, add my logo and render out.
The following day i opened the file again and it gave me the follwoing error:
"After Effects Warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands"
What is confusing to me is that this issue would normally appear if my graphics cards did not support OpenGL, and it would not have opened in the first place if it was not supported.
My graphics card is a - ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB - running Mavericks OS. So i know that this card does support GPU acceleration.
Please could someone point me in a direction that will fix this.
    Thank you so much

Thank you for the update Mylenium.
If I look at my display info, the card says OpenGL engine. Does this mean anything?
If it's not supported, then what's the point in purchasing a Mac If you cannot use AE's full capacity. Mac doesn't put Nvidia cards in there machines and on the Adobe website, ATI cards ate not listed; but in the same breath it says that most ATI cards that have come out in the past 5 years are supported. Surely Adobe and their technicians must have spoken with Mac technitions.
I am considering to buy the new Mac Pro; but am definitely going to change my mind if I cannot use AE's full compatibility. I don't see why spend so much cash if the cards aren't great.
Please could you then tell me what functions to switch off in the project file. I'll get the guy whom I bought the template from to switch of those functions.
    Thank you.
    Have a great day

  • Adobe After Effects CC showing incorrect OpenGL version on New Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013

Hey Guys,  Quick question here. I'm attempting to work on a project on After effects. I keep getting Out of Memory error upon loading the project. i went in and tweaked the settings and i noticed on my GPU page, it says my OpenGL version is 2.1. On Apple's website it says the OpenGL version of My Macbook (Late 2013 15" Retina, Geforce 750M 2048MB) is 4.1
Any reason why it shows the incorrect version? i dont think the OpenGL is whats causing my Out of Memory error, but i just want to make sure im not over looking anything in attempt to resolve the issue.
    Thanks!
