Opengl games to be run under wine?

Hi all, does anybody has a list of opengl games made for windows?
I'm asking because it seems that they run very well in wine with little or no overhead, while dx games suffer from a good 25% penalty.
I tried Unigine in opengl, and it confirms that.

  • [SOLVED] Steam fails to run under Wine

    Hello,
    Recent Ubuntu -> Arch user here, so go easy on me!
    I run Steam under Wine. Once it logs in, the main and update news windows appear, and so do '$FRIEND is currently playing $GAME' boxes. That's all fine, until Steam completely dies/disappears a second or two later. It looks like it just can't find a load of necessary libraries; I know the files don't exist, but should they? If not, why is Wine looking for them?
    As far as I know, all Wine dependencies (incl. optional) are installed. The Gecko extension too. I searched far and wide and installed whatever lib32 (including lib32-catalyst-utils) packages I could find in relation to Wine problems. The 64-bit Catalyst drivers are installed and working.
    I did follow the wiki and I did search on Google, these forums and the bug tracker, but nothing has worked.
    $ uname -a
    Linux pr0scarch 2.6.36-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Dec 10 20:32:37 CET 2010 x86_64 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1055T Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
    $ wine --version
    wine-1.3.10
    $ cd ".wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam"
    $ WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine ./Steam
    Due to a measly scrollback of "only" 5000, I didn't get all of the log, but I think this is 99% of it and that it might contain relevant info: http://www.resiiign.com/~coconut/steam.log
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

    Thanks cebru, that was the problem.
    Now I just need to tweak things so that games work well. CS 1.6 is flawless so far.
    Thank you again!

  • Thunderbird running under Win 8.1 with Defender does not download attachments and offline content.

    Thunderbird on Win 8.1 with Windows Defender is not downloading attachments from my roadrunner email account. It does so when running under Ubuntu 12.04 though. On Windows no attachments are shown. Also on Windows there is content that is not shown, I know so as there is an empty box. Then there is no option to download offline content. How may I use Thunderbird to read my email if it won't display properly? I trust the source of these emails as they are from the legal department of my former employer. I asking for the content to be resent does not work either. Please help me.

  • Will PSE 5 run under Win 7 64-bit?

    Running Windows 7 64-bit on notebook would like to run Photoshop Elements there I have it running on desktop computer under Windows XP.  Will PSE 5 run on the notebook?

    I just noticed that my reply to you was in reply to your answer to a question I posted Dec 3, 2013.
    I thought your repley was to a similar question I posted this week. Since my notebook had a short life the same question has come-up again.
    Today I decided to upgrade PSE 5 installed on a Dell, Latitude E6400 notebook running Windows 7 32-bit.  I am waiting for approval to download PSE 13.    I wonder if  this upgarde will work.     When I start PSE 5 the Welcome screen appears but when I click Organize the Organizer doesn't load.  I can enter the Editer. I printed SysInfo and noticed it thinks the OS is Vista not Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit which is what I'm running.
    What do think?
    I also have a desktop computer on which I would like to run PSE.  It has a 64-bit CPU, and Win 7 Home Premium installed.  When I Start PSE 5 the Welcome screen appears, but that is as far as I can go. Neither the Organizer nor Editer will load. I thought I might run PSE 5 inside a Win XP  virtual environment.
    What do you think I sould?

  • DAQ program compiled under Win2k won't run under Win 95.

    When I compile a LabView 5.1.1 vi program that uses lvdaq.dll on my Windows 2000 workstation, that same program will not run on a Windows 95 notebook computer. Error code 21 (external subroutine could not be found) is reported for all standard DAQ vi's calling functions within lvdaq.dll even though the dll can be found in the program directory, the system directory, the vi.lib\daq directory, and via the system path. The same program compiled on a Windows 95 workstation runs on the Windows 95 notebook computer just fine. Why is lvdaq.dll not found when the program is compiled under Windows 2000? Do I need the same version of NI-DAQ on both computers?

    Larry;
    If you are doing NI-DAQ function calls on your VI you need to match the NI-DAQ version on both machines, otherwise, depending on what functions you are calling and what are the NI-DAQ versions, you might get some errors. Just for future reference, this procedure is good for NI-VISA (if you are using VISA VIs) and NI-488.2 (if you are using GPIB boards) as well.

    Thats it...
    what games do you usually run?

    I've never been much of a gamer, but I distinctly remember playing this game too. A couple weeks ago i went and looked for old games like this, and TIM was one of the ones i found. I don't remember where I got it, but I'll put it up here for a day or two so you can grab it (it's abandonware): http://atrum.com/tim/.
    Oh and I came across Legends (mentioned previously) in a slashdot post the other day and the game is gorgeous. I've never played either Tribes game, so I'm still getting used to the controls, but it's fun. Have been looking into contributing to the project. Just too bad they can't release all the sources for it (it uses the Torque engine).
    As for the games I play, the ones I have played have been native to Linux, like Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 and RTCW. Speaking of which, I guess i should try out ET since everyone is raving about it. Now where's that damn CD...

  • Version 6.0 running under Win 7 - non-alphabetic characters typed appear as something other than what I typed -- É for question mark for example.

    Forward slash appears as lower case e-acute é, question mark as upper-case É. Some, not all shifted numerals also map differently. Shift-3 for instance is forward slash instead of hash symbol.
    I played around with character sets - various unicode and western sets - this resolved the problem in an earlier FF version, even after I`d reverted to what I started out with ( I can`t even remember what the default is now.) It was also suggested elsewhere in this forum that the problem could be resolved using the Region and Language settings in Windows Control Panel. This is obviously wrong, because the keyboard is working fine in other applications. It was also suggested I try to resolve by activating the language toolbar in the taskbar, but the option doesn`t even show up so I assume it was never installed.
    My judgement this problem is definitely not OS, but Firefox.

    See:
    * http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306993 - HOW TO: Use the Language Bar in Windows XP
    * http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/The-Language-bar-overview - The Language bar (overview)
    * http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/The-Language-bar-overview The Language bar (overview)
    It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.<br />
    Windows remembers that setting per application.
    * Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar.
    * You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar.
    * Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar.
    * You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application.
    * The default keys to rotate the layout is a combination (Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift) that can easily be used in Firefox to activate a menu item.
    * To avoid an unintentional switch assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)
    * Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Keyboards and Languages > Change keyboards > Advanced key settings > Change key sequence

  • FFMPEG screencast is not working for WoW under Wine (AMD Catalyst)

    Hi all. I'm trying to record game video using ffmpeg, but each time when I actually switch my focus to the game window, the picture freezes. Here is the example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4kfKpgcTAE This is World of Warcraft running under wine. I use AMD Catalyst beta-driver from the unofficial repository (mentioned here) on x64 system (lib32-catalyst-utils also installed).
    I tried this:
    ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 30 -i :0.0 -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -acodec flac -vcodec ffvhuff test.mkv (from wiki)
    and some variations I found over the Internet:
    ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 30 -i :0.0 -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -acodec flac -vcodec ffvhuff test.mkv
    None of them worked.
    I guess it's due to driver, because when I tried recordMyDesktop tool a few days ago with xf86-video-ati driver it recorded wideo. But when I switched to proprietary drider, both ffmpeg and recordMyDesktop are not working. I'm not going to change video driver because it's performance in video-games, so I'm wondering if there is any solution to my problem (except windowed-mode!).
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I had similar problems when trying to record OpenGL games with FFMpeg CLI. I use the catalyst-test drivers for my AMD HD 6870.
    You could try downloading SimpleScreenRecorder via yaourt; get both, including the lib32-simplescreenrecorder.
    There will be some conflicts, but choosing to replace some files hasn't caused any problems.
    Make sure you have both  lib32-libpulse and lib32-alsa-plugins installed (pacman).
    Once everything is in set, open SSR (SimpleScreenRecorder); set audio input to:
    - Record Microphone
    - Backend: PulseAudio
    - Source: Monitor of Built-in Audio Analog Stereo
    I chose to output as MKV ; H.264 ; MP3 @128
    Select Start Recording and fire up WoW. I was able to playback the game-play video (full screen 1920x1080) with audio.
    You may need different settings from what I have, notably the audio, but it should record in full screen mode.
    Good luck !

  • Hearthstone under wine

    Hi
    Is there anyone, who has Hearthstone running under wine 1.7.18 or 1.7.19? I have to keep wine 1.7.17, last version under which it runs for me. Under *.18, *.19 I can launch game, no crashes, I just got "Your game timed out ..." ..
    So, does it work for anyone?
    Thanks

    Version .19 and .20 are both busted for me, so I'd stick with .17 for now.  If you need a newer wine, and you don't mind building it yourself, there's a (reported) fix in the bug report:
    http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36216

    That's correct. Elements 13 will not run on Windows XP.

  • Picasa2 under wine/linux

    how cool is this.....
    installation steps
    1)  pacman -S wine
    2) wine picasa-setup.exe
    wow.. that's it?!?!
    video doesn't seem to play yet, but i've only had it installed for about 3 minutes, so i can't quite say anything bad yet.  in general, it looks/feels quite the same.

    i believe gthumb doesn't do movies.  i had my eye on f-spot for a while, but thought that was also an image only viewer.
    i'ld love to hear other options.  feel free to list any you know that can view images and movies together and i'll look through them.  i thought i had already looked, but i did miss digikam.  must have had my gnome blinders on.
    digikam looked neat, on first glance i didn't see an option for movies, i need to go deeper apparently.   thanks scarecrow, that may end up being a better solution if it can do video too.
    why picasa...
    picasa2 has always been what my wife uses to view photo albums and such. it's rather addictive actually, it shows images, movies and everything as one big album.  but it also has some other neat tools letting upload to your local malmart for printing and such for 1 hour printing, timelines, slideshows, screensavers, photo-dvds... blah, blah, about everything you could think to do with an album (which i'm guessing most don't work under wine).
    there might be other tools worth looking at under linux, but i'm migrating my wife's machine (slowly) to linux.  getting her email to gmail, her browser to firefox. and the last hold out is the ability to view our album nicely.   she likes picasa, and if change can be avoided that's a plus for now.
    my excitement was mostly due to the fact that i hadn't played with wine for a while.  the last time i did, and tried to get diablo ii lod running, it was quite a bit more leg work.  i was amazed at how easy it is now to get something running under wine.  might be due to a nicely packaged wine.  if that's the case, i owe someone a sixpack.

  • What OpenGL games do you play?

    What are your favourite OpenGL games you play under Linux?
    Doesn't matter if they are open source, closed source, or run in Wine, but they must use OpenGL.
    My favourite ones are Enemy Territory and NeverBall.

    The list is always changing, but...
    DropTeam
    Tremulous
    Vendetta
    Frets on Fire
    Savage and Savage 2 whenever that comes out.
