  • HDMI and OpenGL Graphics

I recently introduced a colleague of mine to Arch, and all's going well except for a handful of issues. His primary concern is that he enjoys plugging his laptop into his TV via HDMI. This isn't a problem; we got him set up quite easily (hardest part was sending sound). The problem arises when he tries to play any game with OpenGL graphics (or at least two, namely Minecraft and an OpenGL game I'm currently developing).
SYMPTOMS: OpenGL runs fine. No framerate issues, quick to start. However, when he closes the OpenGL window, his display will go black as if he's losing HDMI connectivity. He can then open his laptop and continue using Arch from there, but if he wants HDMI back, he has to restart (at least X11).
I tried Googling around for this issue, but got no luck. If there are other threads you could point me toward, that would be great. Otherwise, what more information does the community require to diagnose the issue?

He's using an Intel graphics card (I can get the model if needed). I don't recall installing a specific driver, but I installed xf86-video-intel when setting him up, which installed intel-dri in the process. Do you need a specific driver? If so, what command delivers that information?

  • List of  "qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card"

The CS5 system requirements says "qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card", is there a list of cards or more directly, does an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro qualify? If not, will CS5 still work and if so, what are the penalties? I am thinking of upgrading but want to know if it is worth it.

Sounds like a mid 2007 iMac. That had 256 MB of VRAM, so you should be OK

Nvidia Graphics Processor (windows Vista) crashes on CS6 and works on CS5

    Hi Steve in Palm Desert!
I see you are running Windows Vista. You know that Vista is not supported for CS6, right? It is not prevented from running, but not supported.
That known, what video card do you have ? Do you have the most updated driver?  My laptop is brand new and I had an outdated video driver right upon delivery.
    Maybe that could help.

  • Compatibility of graphics driver for vista with xp

I have a HP Pavilion a6320in desktop. It came installed with Vista OS. I have now installed Win XP. Will the graphics driver for Vista:  NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 420, 6150 LE, 6150SE nForce 430, 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i and 8200, also work for Win XP?

I had replaced the original motherboard MCP61PM-HM (Nettle2) with ECS GeForce6100PM-M2. I tried installing winXP, but the graphics were hazy and performance very slow. Somebody suggested I need to install the graphics driver. Will the graphics driver you suggested work?
    OK.
Now that is new information that you should have shared earlier with us.
You need to use all of the drivers that are available at the ECS website for the  ECS GeForce6100PM-M2 motherboard. Do not use the HP drivers for the replacement motherboard.
FYI ..Once you replace the motherboard with a different brand than delivered your desktop PC ceases to be an HP desktop PC.

  • OpenGL Graphic Apps

Does the graphic card in the PowerBook 12" supports OpenGL applications? If not, what are my options?

Yes it does, major parts of OS X are actually crafted upon OpenGL:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/opengl/
One thing you may find is that either the card or the drivers don't support specific extensions. If it's the latter, then that may improve with the incremental OS X updates (10.4.2, 10.4.3, etc).

  • Equium U400 graphical glitch Windows Vista

    Hello all,
I-ve recently purchased the abovementioned machine and I would have been very happy with it were it not for the graphical glitch. It usually appears after a couple of minutes of work and it scrambles the colors, making it look pretty screwy (IE background for example is for some reason blue-green instead of white, which makes it annoying to work with. There are also artifacts and so on. I have downloaded the latest drivers from this site. I-m running vista home 32bit
    please help.

    Hello
Is your notebook preinstalled with Toshiba recovery image (factory settings)?
Can you test it please with external display? It will be interesting to see how it looks there?
I just hope on external display is everything OK.
Please post the result and we can continue the discussion.

  • Satellite A60-156: Where to find graphic driver for Vista

I've recently upgraded my A60 with new dvd, memory and hard drive.
Upgraded to Vista and all works perfect except i cannot find an upgrade for my display driver.
Just shows as standard graphics adaptor and i cannot get any 3d functionality on it even for Vista Windows games or screensavers.
Can anyone advise as to where I can get updated drivers for this function? Graphics card is ati radeon 7000igp.
    Thanks.

What to say It seems Toshiba page doesnt provide any Vista drivers for this unit.
So you could try to use an graphic driver from the 3rd party website like www.omegadrivers.net
But note; these are not Toshiba drivers and therefore the drivers are not tested on the Toshiba notebooks. You can install it but only at your own risk.
    Best regards & good luck

  • OpenGL graphic flash after using side volume buttons

I'm working on an OpenGL game based on the Crashlanding framework in Apple's code examples. I'm experiencing a one frame flash if you use the side volume controls during the game and Apple's graphic feedback overlays on top of the game view. Everything is fine when the overlay is up and begins to fade out but for 1/30th of a second after the fadeout concludes the screen appears to flash black. After further review what is happening is that the underlying game image is being cropped by the bounding rectangle of the OS-generated volume overlay. Anybody have a clue what is causing this and what I can do to prevent it?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

None of them will work. I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 graphics card in this (Compaq Presario All-In-One Desktop PC) and I just posted another question in the forum about wanting to know if I can replace the grahics card with a HD card and if so how? I have looked online but can't find an answer. Is it possible to replace the card or with it being an all-in-one is it not possible? Thank you.

  • LabVIEW Development Team: Windows Vista May Degrade OpenGL

A while back, I started some threads about the OpenGL/Mesa graphics that are at the heart of LabVIEW [and I suppose the reason that LabVIEW can support cross platform porting to Linux/OSX/Solaris/etc]:
OpenGL hardware acceleration for the LabVIEW's OpenGL graphics engine?

Tips for tweaking graphics hardware acceleration of Mesa & the mesa.dll implementation on Win32 platforms?
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=106579
In summary: The Mesa implementation of OpenGL on Win32 platforms does NOT support hardware acceleration.
Just now, however, a thread was started over at Slashdot, which indicates that the situation for Win32/Win64 could become much worse: In the next generation of Microsoft operating systems, OpenGL will only exist as a software layering over [or "wrapper around"] the underlying DirectX software, i.e. OpenGL will no longer exist as a separate infrastructure, and LabVIEW graphics performance could take an enormous hit:
    Windows Vista May Degrade OpenGL
    http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/06/177251
Definitely something to keep your eye on.

About a third of the way down the main thread, there's a good subthread here:
    http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=158252&pid=13259310&threshold=-1
It looks like the hardware manufacturers [ATi, nVidia, 3Dlabs, etc] are calling on the software manufacturers [like National Instruments] to join with them in applying pressure on Microsoft to change this approach to OpenGL.

  • Boot Camp Mac Pro Vista 32 / 64 Nvidia 7300GT Maya / OpenGL apps freeze?

I have successfully installed Vista 32 and 64 in addition to OSX. I have the latest BootCamp install. (which should not matter) I have installed the latest Nvidia drivers for the 7300GT in both 32 and 64. Whenever I try and launch any openGL application (tried Maya, Mudbox, Realflow so far) they all just freeze on startup. I can play DirectX games just fine. I have tried everything, including re-arranging my RAM, changing every Nvidia setting (exhaustive searches on other forums). I have a Mac Pro (quad core), 5GB RAM, two SATA partitions on the primary drive, and a dedicated drive for Vista 64. BTW - I was having the same problem in Vista 32 as well before I decided to try installing Vista 64. This seems to be a very strange issue, since undoubtedly the Apple team would have tested at least a single openGL app before qualifying Vista for boot camp.
I have already installed the latest EFI update, and when I try and install the update to Nvidia firmware OSX in it's verbose glory tells me "you do not need this update".
BTW - when I install Vista 64, BEFORE I install the Nvidia drivers (using Microsoft Nvidia drivers), I can load Maya just fine. Although, it is not very responsive, which defeats the purpose.

I think it is a shame you don't have the X1900, though. Or 8800 which only works under Windows but interferes with OS X even booting. (I have 8600 which doesn't work in OS X but at least does work in Vista).
Only Business and Ultimate support dual cpus. And only x64 supports 5GB. 32-bit SP1 will see all 5GB but not sure how much it uses. Otherwise, Mac Pro + Vista 32-bit supports 1.9GB RAM - which is paltry.
Does Maya system requirements show the 7300?

  • W500: using the switchable graphics with vista ultimate without the power manager software?

seriously, invest in a new hitachi travelstar 320gb for 49 bucks from that tiger place online and a usb hard drive caddy, pop in your free clonezilla cd and your rescue and recovery problems will be over!
after reading all the problems with that software i figured my data was too valuble to get caught in that mess so for under 75 bucks problem solved and i rid my w500 of that bloatware. even cheaper then ordering the recovery disks from lenovo.
working on getting rid of the rest of the useless software now.

That's because you are asking a T500/W500 question in the Thinkvantage forum. Anyway, the answer to your question is in this thread.
ATI recently started packaging their switchable graphics driver together with their regular Catalyst. So downloading their latest driver Catalyst 9.4 from the ATI/AMD site and then modifying it with the Mobility Modder will allow you to use switchable graphics without the power manager. The little problem is just that the released version of the Mobility Modder stopped working with Catalyst 9.2 and you are on your own getting a modified Modder  working on 9.4, see here.
So I decided not to make more work for myself staying on a modded Catalyst 9.1 and for the time being living without switchable graphics.
