OpenGL issue 10.4.3 + Nvidia

I have a blender (www.blender.org) issue with 10.4.3. Blender stopped working after upgrade on my nVIDIA based Powerbook. I've seen topics on an openGL issue about the Simpsons which seems to indicate this direction.
Any hint, workaround, similar experience out there?

  • Apple: please finally fix the 8600m opengl issues!

When will the nvidia 8600m opengl issues finally be resolved?
Getting quite sick and tired of having to use the sdlmame software renderer this past half year of 10.5. The sdlmame opengl rendering worked fine under 10.4 and it works fine on 10.5 on different video cards, so it's definitely not the sdlmame opengl rendering code. Just a very incomplete opengl driver from apple.
    To check/reproduce:
    - make sure you have the latest xcode installed
    - install the latest stable developer packages of sdl http://www.libsdl.org/
    - download and build sdlmame from http://rbelmont.mameworld.info/?page_id=163
    - download one of the free romsets from http://mamedev.org/
    - run sdlmame using the software renderer: ./mame -rp /path/to/whereromset_wassaved <thedownloadedgame>
    - run sdlmame using the opengl renderer: ./mame -rp /path/to/whereromset_wassaved -video opengl <thedownloadedgame>
The advantage of using opengl will be that the screen will be drawn faster, just too bad it is totally useless utter crap that is being output.
Apple: please fix this! These mbp's aren't the cheapest machines around, some support would be nice.

Presuming this hasn't been addressed in 10.5.3, you can submit comments to Apple regarding Mac OS X by submitting feedback here:

  • OpenGL issue when launching Photoshop CS5 Extended from Lightroom?

I noticed about 2 weeks ago that the scrubby zoom and rotate commands stopped working.  Obviously OpenGL was not
enabled and was greyed out, not letting me enable it.  I have a 295GTX video card with dual GPU's and I have updated all drivers NVidia 280.26.  When I went through the Adobe troubleshoot doc I reset my preferences/defaults by holding <CTRL><ALT><SHIFT> when launching Photoshop and it allows me to enable it.  I can even open a bunch of images and everything works but only if I open them FROM within Photoshop.  If I pick an image from Lightroom (Latest Version) and launch it to photoshop it will not allow me to run OpenGL features any longer and the only way I can get it to work again is to reset it doing the <CTRL><ALT><SHIFT> move.
Any suggestions or knowlege of issues / bugs?

As a temporary workaround, you can uninstall the driver and try using an earlier release.  Sometimes they break new things with new releases.

  • Why the viewport became laggy? (openGl issue?)

    Dear Community,
I think I have a general system issue that prevent me to smoothly use some software (like Photoshop and After Effects, + some other non-Adobe software).
The issue is a general lag and slowness in the updating of the viewport even when a simple scene is loaded up.
For example, when I try to manage the handles of a mask's point, every single slight modification of the handle needs half of a second to get updated in the viewport.
Switching to "Fast Draft" seems to fix the lag with the handles of the mask, but I still experience lag if I grab the composition with the "Hand Tool" and move it around in the viewport window.
Might be helpful to know that in Cinema 4D I experience the very same issue, and by disabling the use of OpenGL, I can get rid of the lag in the viewport.
Let's also say that once (with the same hardware) everything was working good and I can't recall any major update in my system that could have triggered this bad behavior.
So far I've just tried to install old Nvidia drivers without any success.
    What do you think?
Thanks a lot for your help!!
    My config for your reference:
It's an old mac pro from 2009.
    Adobe AE 12.2.1.5
Windows 7, 64bit running on Bootcamp
Cpu Intel xeon  E5520, 48GB ram
Gpu GeForce GTX 680, 4GB  (with 347.25 driver)

    Hello again,
thanks anyway for your support, really appreciated.
I can be a lil be more informative as I've done a couple of hardware tests:
I disconnected my Zotac gtx680 4GB and replaced it with a lower specs GTX 470: the applications that were suffering the lag now are responsive, without any lag!!
I connected my ssd with windows7 and my Zotac 680 4GB to a REAL PC (so no more a Bootcamped Mac Pro): applications using OpenGL are still suffering of severe lag in the viewport.
These tests seems to point out that my Zotac 680 could be the source of the lag with OpenGL apps.
Do you have any consideration to share, now that we've ruled out that it's not Bootcamp behind this particular issue?

  • CC 2014 OpenGL issue with GeForce Gt 740M

    Hi community,
I have some issues with using Photoshop CC 2014. From the moment I start the program my notebook fan will start working at 100%, but CPU usage is just around 5%. I discovered that it is probably an GPU issue. When I put the option 'Use Graphiprocessor' off, the fan in working normal. Even if I just deactivate OpenGL, the fan is working normally. I already updated my drivers. My notebook is running two graphic cards, the GeForce GT 740M and the Intel HD 4000. I was testing both cards with Photoshop and it's the same for both of them. As soon as I put OpenGL the fan is going crazy. I don't know if its really a graphic card / driver issue, since it happens with both of them.
I hope you can help, because I really would like to use Photoshop, but with all time 100 % fan speed it is impossible.
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Moritz

I have the Nvidia driver from the Nvidia site and the Intel one from my notebook producer (ASUS). I tried to install the Intel driver from their page, but an error occured (not authorized for my system or something like that). The Nvidia driver offered by ASUS is older than the one I installed from the Nvidia site.

  • Cs4 and two gaficadapter. OpenGL issues

I can't get the OpenGL advantage in CS4 because of using two display adapter. It works when i disconnect one of both but it doesn't work with both. Any suggestion?
Should i call Adobe or Apple?

Are you running two of the same cards or are they different? I'm running a pair of NVidia 7300GTs with no issues...and I'm driving a pair of 30" Cinemas and an NEC 26" widescreen. I get better performance on the single 30" than on the card with the two displays. Also note that which PCI slot you are driving the cards in has an impact on their performance...something to look into.

  • Mobility Radeon 7500 OpenGL issues

Whenever I attempt to use anything involving openGL, my CPU usage hits 100%. Complex openGL programs will drop to a framerate of less than 10, and sometimes crash Xorg.  How can I fix this?

Has this always been the case for you or did you update recently and it started happening?  There appears to be some sort of conflict with some machines and new changes to the kernel to allow quicker mode setting.  See http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 47#p659347.  I had to add !radeon to my MODULES list in /etc/rc.conf to get X to even work at all.  I don't run anything that uses OpenGL so I don't know if it'll address your issue.
You may also want to take a look at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 20#p662920 and add intel_agp radeon (that's two modules, in that order) to your MODULES list.
Well, I was having the graphical corruption issue in that first thread until I added the nomodeset boot flag. As for the modesetting, I think it directly conflicts with my boot flag, and without it, I get corruption. =/

  • Adobe CS4 OpenGL issues with 10.6.2 and Intel GMA950 video card

I just upgraded to Adobe CS4 and in PS I cannot enable OpenGL. I'm running 10.6.2 on a Macbook with the Intel GMA950 video card.
I was wondering if 10.6.2 does not have the relevant drivers for CS4 to recognize this chipset or that since the video card is integrated (as opposed to a stand alone with the newer Macbooks) that Intel has not update the drivers? It ***** since I cannot use some functions inside PS without OpenGL.

Hello blue20 & welcome to discussions
1.) You can search these forums for the topic of:
    Adobe CS4 GMA950
As an example, if you haven't already, in an effort to parse what's already been discussed.
2.) Have you looked at any of the Adobe forums:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2356530
3.) How many fonts are you working with?
The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.
An additional measure is to clear the existing font caches:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/139383/2009/03/fontcacheclear.html
That said, 10.6.2 release notes have this to say about fonts:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874
    Fonts fixes provided for:
    • an issue with font spacing
    • an issue in which some Fonts are missing
    • font duplication issues
    • an issue with some PostScript Type 1 fonts not working properly
    Good luck in any case.

  • How to get OpenGL 4 on an intel/nvidia laptop

    Hi,
    I have the following setup:
    A lenovo T430 with intel/nvidia graphics.
I managed to get the nvidia driver and bumblebee installed. So far I am able to run games such as L4D on my machine.
However, Metro 2033, requires OpenGL4. Right now I have the mesa-10.3.5 implementation of OpenGL, which provides OpenGL 3.0.
Can anybody give me some hints.

NVIDIA's proprietary graphic card driver doesn't depends on mesa anyhow, Mesa is used with Intel driver on your laptop.
You have Nvidia NVS 5000M Series videocard (NV5x).
    From NVIDIA Wiki article
For GeForce 8000/9000 and 100-300 series cards [NV5x, NV8x, NV9x and NVAx] from around 2006-2010, install the nvidia-340xx or nvidia-340xx-lts package, available in the official repositories.
If you are on 64-bit and also need 32-bit OpenGL support, you must also install the equivalent lib32 package from the multilib repository (e.g. lib32-nvidia-libgl, lib32-nvidia-340xx-libgl or lib32-nvidia-304xx-libgl).
Reboot. The nvidia package contains a file which blacklists the nouveau module, so rebooting is necessary.
Be sure noveau deleted from /etc/mkinitcpio.conf if you had it, I suggest you don't need it for now.

  • Sever issue with Xorg and Nvidia Drivers

I run a 2.6.20 kernel with Xorg and Nvidia drivers all from arch rep on a Asus NV6200. Everything works fine, except one thing. When I exit X, the monitor shuts down imediatly. It wont start up at all, not even by manual startup. I cant understand what happens. The configuration is correct, is done with the correct settings for my video-card and monitor taken directly from the documentation. I cant use my X server at all since several days ... I checked the logs and there are no EE's. Anyway ... here is the log. Help anyone can help, I cant use X at all.

No ... the problem is in the kernel that comes precompiled.
    I did this test.
The first time I installed the kernel I unloaded nvidiafb since I dont like it.
When I install nvidiafb back something strange happends. Nvidia module fails to load.
The modprobe sais it cannot find the device nvidia.ko ... but it is there!
So my best guess is, there is something with the kernel. Any ideas?
    Problem resolved, installed older driver

  • OpenGL issue with Mac Classic games?

I'm trying to use some great old OS 9 games (Vampire: Masquerade and ST: Elite Force, etc) but whenever they switch over to the 3D rendered segments the screen goes completely black with only sound playing.
I suspect OpenGL is somehow involved as that is the required program for these games, right? And it's included on all OS systems, but for some reason mine is not giving me love.
I've got an iMac with OS 10.3.9.
    Any insight?

    Hi
Maybe get in touch with the people who make the game?
Don't know if there is a forum that deals with OpenGL. How about the Mac OS 9 forum, may help?

  • Monitor issues on an old nvidia card

    Dell Inspiron 8600
Graphics card: GeForce FX Go5200 64M
    Driver: nvidia-173xx from AUR
    Window Manager: xmonad
I am trying to set up my laptop to be able to attach and disconnect an external monitor, and I am having some problems which I believe are related to the old driver version. If I use xinerama, then RanrR is disabled, therefore on-the-fly screen resolution and monitor changes are impossible. If I do not, then I have exactly one monitor in xrandr's output called default, no matter how many physical monitors I have connected. I am currently using twinview via disper and nvidia-settings.
The problem is that none of my applications know that there are two monitors, which causes problems all over the place. I do not believe that I will ever have two monitors according to the software (please correct me if I'm wrong), therefore I am ok with faking it. Is there any way to get the resolutions of the physical monitors? I can get the overall size of the whole thing via xrandr. Is there any way into fooling programs like youtube and fullscreen games into thinking that there are two monitors, not one? I have figured out how to fool XMonad, so long as I can get the resolutions of the monitors.

Mine did that once or twice with a MDP monitor but has not returned.
Do you have each monitor on a different Thunderbolt bus?

I would try swapping the adopters to see if that could be the cause

  • T500 OpenGL issue.

    Hello,
I'm curious wether anybody tried to play any Doom3 engine games (Doom3, Quake4, ET:QW, Prey) on a hybrid graphics T500 with radeon hd 3650, but every time I start one of these games, I recive a "Video driver has been recovered" message and the game hangs. (Of course it does, the driver just crashed under it...). Never experienced the same with D3D applications.
I hope anyone has a solution for this mess.
Using Vista32Buisness with up-to-date drivers (according to lenovo update manager).
    Thank you.

Additional info: I'm not finding any Synaptics drivers in the control panel > uninstall or change programs list.  I also pulled up the list of drivers more my machine type (2081CTO) on the Lenovo downloads page, and there is nothing for Synaptics or "touchpad" listed.
