Opening a brochure created in Illustrator in Indesign

Hello,
I've just been given brochure artwork from another company. It's been created in Illustrator. I would like to work with it in Indesign.
Is there a recommended way of importing it so that it doesn't break up strangely?
Thanks!

Just being wishful that there was this amazing tool that i hadn't heard of.
You might want to use this Illustrator script that will rejoin the broken text paths/frames/whatchacallem in Illustrator? in a top-down, left-right order.
It's been a while since I used it, so I don't remember if you'll need the convert point type to area type script as well.

  • User can't open a PDF created with Illustrator CS4

I'm creating a PDF in Illustrator CS4, and I save it on a server where the user can get it. User is not able to open the file, it says acces denied. When I email that same file to several users, they can open it without a problem. I have checked that there's no restrictions on accessibility on the folder or the file. I wonder if it has to do with windows user permissions...
Our IT guy couldn't find any problem ....
    Any clue?

Try saving locally and copying to the server.

  • How do I open a pdf created in an earlier version of indesign?

I created a bunch of .pdf's in an older version of Indesign (about 2 years ago) and the new version will not open them. Should I be using a different Adobe product to edit the .pdfs They are fill in the blank forms for use in the office.
    thx
    David

The process it you create the forms in InDesign (CS6/CC), with enabled fields; export it to PDF interactive; you can then fine tune the PDF in Acrobat Pro, then you enable the form so that users can enter data on the form, save it, email it, or print it out. Once the form is enabled to allow users to be able to enter data, it can't be changed. You should always keep a copy of the original InDesign/ Acrobat form.

    Hi chuck,
If you ave created the form and then filling it yourself and saving the form, the filled data should be there when you reopen the same form.
Can you please send the form to me at [email protected]  so that I can have a look.

If you plan on collaborating with other users who have progressed with the technology you are gong to have to upgrade. There is simply no way any longer to continue with XP and CS2 except in isolation.

  • I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator image does not appear properly.

I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator logo does not appear properly. The logo has a light blue color background with a black to white gradiant over it with a multiply designation set at 100%.  I flattened the logo in illustrator before importing into InDesign. When the pdf is created, the blue background of the logo drops out and the only thing showing is the graduated screen of black. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    Thanks for your reply Peter,
I'm on Mac OSX (10.5.8) using Acrobat 7 Professional and Acrobat
Reader 9 to view the pdf. I created it by exporting. Attached is a
screen capture of the letterhead. Since I posted, I sent a test pdf to
my partner's computer eventhough it didn't look right on my system and
she said it looked fine to her. I've restarted my computer and tried
again and still get the same results.

  • Can files created in cs5.5 design premium be saved so they open in Photoshop CS2 or Illustrator CS4?

Can files created in cs5.5 design premium be saved so they open in Photoshop CS2 or Illustrator CS4?

Yes, you can save compatible files as long as you obey the rules like not using unsupported features such as nested groups, per group clipping masks, smart objects and several other things in Photoshop and use the "Maximize Compatibility" option. Illustrator will simply expand the appearance of objects or rasterize/ flatten them when going back to older versions if a feature is not available or changed in those old versions.

  • CS6 Photopshop, Illustrator and Indesign crash upon opening Window 8 64-bit.

Runnning Genuine CS6 Photopshop, Illustrator and Indesign crash upon opening  without any error message... worked fine then stopped working.  Running it on Window 8 64-bit.  Have tried opening without 3d party plugins, resetting preferences, and uninstalling and reinstalling.

    did you clear the caches?
and onthe off-chance that ID got far enough to leave something behind, find the InDesign Recovery folder (a hidden folder, I think, since Snow Leopard or Lion) and empty it if there's anything there.

This is what pops up when Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign are opened.

Smsbc was Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign installed using the custom installation option in Master Collection?  Have you tried de-activating your current license to reapply the Master Collection license?  You can find details on how to deactivate at Activation & deactivation help - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html.

  • Can InDesign 6 open a document created in InDesign 4?

Can InDesign 6 open a document created in InDesign 4?

I have opened CS3 files without issue, so CS4 files shoudn't be a problem. If you are using CS6 or CC and you want to save a file to open in CS4, save the file as an .idml file. See here http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/save-indesign-files-previous-versions.html for more information.

You can try the script mentioned in #1 here: Re: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

  • Creating web buttons using InDesign 3.

I am creating web buttons using InDesign 3. I need to create a 150×150 button and when I go to Document setup, put in 150 pt, the dimensions of the document end up saving as 625×625. What am I doing wrong?

When you open the PDF in photoshop, it becomes subject to the resolution set in Photoshop's Import PDF dialog. That is most likely where your pixel dimesion discrepancy is coming about.
But that's a somewhat convoluted workflow. Why not just start with a 150 x 150 canvas in Photoshop?
Is there something about these buttons or your methods that make inDesign the preferred creation/editing environment? In terms of  the right tool for this job, I'd rank Fireworks, the older ImageReady, Photoshop, and Illustrator all well ahead of Indesign.

  • "Open With" EPS Photoshop and Illustrator

I have updated to 10.6.5 and having issues opening EPS files in Illustrator and Photoshop. It will only open them in one, whereas before it would choose the appropriate program it was created in.
I go to "get info" and select the appropriate program and "change all". Then it opens ALL eps files in that one program. I can't get it to open vector EPS files in Illustrator and raster EPS files in Photoshop.
Please help! "Editing Original" from InDesign and Quark is driving me insane!!

Snow Leopard only allows one app to open generic EPS files, you can't split them. If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Mac Developer Program—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.
