Opening a file results in "Untitled" filename

Recently (for about 2 weeks) Fireworks has a new trick up it's buggy sleeve:
Whenever I open a file, it loads and then Fireworks shifts from showing the filename in the tab to "UntitledX" where X is a number.
Now when I try to save it asks me where to save the file. I select the existing file and it asks me to overwrite it.
Is anyone else suffering from this issue too? It's like Fireworks is opening the file as an Untitled document.

I am having the same issue with Fireworks CS5 all of a sudden. Any file I open opens as untiltled and when I save it asks me where to save the file. I have not moved the file to a different location. I've looked around on the forums and this is the only mention of it. Has anyone out there figured it out?

    Hello David.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.

  • How can I open my file after 'cannot find -filename-' error message?

OK, the bottom line is, InDesign crashes and I cannot recover my file. I get a 'Cannot find file' error message when I try to open the file.
I am using CS6 on a MacBookAir, OS X Yosemite.
I have tried finding the 'InDesignFileRecovery' folder, I cannot find it anywhere, it's not in my Library or Caches folder.
However, I do work in dropbox, so I just headed over to dropbox to recover from their 'previous versions'. It starts to get weird. There are lots of previous versions (I save very regularly) but when I download a previous version (that I know was fine) it downloads with a indd.txt extension. So I remove the txt extension and keep the indd and everything looks fine, but then that recovered file gives the same message. I tried renaming the recovered file and opening that, same 'cannot find file' error message.
I can open InDesign and open the file from the day before, but none of the dropbox earlier versions of that day's work. I am SO sick of this happening. It happened to me last week to, so far I have lost 20 hours work :-(
I have tried quitting InDesign and restarting the Mac, doesn't help. The only thing I can think of is to 'save as' every couple of hours, at least then hopefully I only lose 2 hours work.

Thanks, when you say 'hidden by default' then how does one find it? I have already tried the path you mention and there is no sign of a cache folder with Adobe files. Spotlight doesn't reveal anything either.

  • Opening RAW files in Bridge

According to p. 235 of "Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac", you are supposed to be able to right click on a RAW file in Bridge, and then you will presented with a pop up menu displaying the menu item "Open in Camera Raw".  Clicking on "Open in Camera Raw" in Bridge is supposed to give you access to the full set of ACR features that Photoshop CS4 users enjoy.  On the other hand, using PSE 8 to open RAW files results in a stripped down set of features in ACR.
Unfortunately, I am unable to open NEF files (Nikon's RAW files) in Bridge. When I right click on a NEF file in Bridge, there is no menu item which says "Open in Camera Raw". However, if I right click on a .jpg file in Bridge, then I do see the "Open in Camera Raw" menu item.
I am able to open NEF files in PSE 8 and edit them with ACR using the stripped down feature set.   My PSE 8 came with ACR 5.5.  I installed ACR 5.6 to see if that would help, but I get the same results.
osx 10.4.11, PSE 8 for mac, ACR 5.6

Hmmm. Works for me -- when I right-click on a NEF file in Bridge (or select and then click on the "open in RAW" icon in Bridge's top menu bar), it works fine for me. I see the full-featured ACR. I use ACR 5.6, PSE Mac 8, and OS X 10.6.2.
When you installed ACR 5.6, you followed the PSE-specific instructions, right? In Preferences, you've got NEF associated with PSE? And you're not trying to mix-and-match Bridge and iPhoto simultaneously?
So far, the only difference is I'm using Snow Leopard. And i've never installed NX2 et. al. Not that it should matter, but which camera are you using?

  • Opening a .doc file in Pages results in Untitled document?

    Hi all!
I've reinstalled iWork '06, along with the rest of my OS, and I've noticed something strange: if I set Pages as default to open .doc files, every time I double-click on a .doc file, Pages opens it in an Untitled document.
Of course, when it comes to saving changes, Pages asks me to save them in the Untitled, not in the original document. No matter that I exported the file in .doc in Pages in the first place, it just doesn't save it.
    How come?

Before Pages 3/iWork '08, Pages opened any "foreign" document (Word, AppleWorks, text, RTF) as an untitled Pages document, just as it does a template. When you export a document, you're doing just that, not saving it. Pages "knows" you haven't saved it as a Pages document so the title doesn't change until you do save it.
Since Pages 3, a "foreign" document will have the name of the original with the .pages extension added. But the rest of the process is the same.

  • Sorry, something went wrong - Open Office File from Search Results Page with Office Web Apps

    Hi,
I'm getting "Sorry, something went wrong" error when I'm trying to open any office document from inside Search Results Page with Office Web Apps, the same error is appearing in the document preview as well.
The error in SharePoint logs says that the file cannot be found.
Please note that this error is coming only when the "Filename" of the document is not written in English (in my case its written with Arabic characters).
If I try to open it from the document library, its opening properly with no errors.
    The only difference between two URLs (document URL in Search Results and in Document Library) is the value for "sourcedoc" attribute;
In the case of Search Results page, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is kept as is with Arabic characters.
While in the Document Library, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is converted into different characters (something like: "B9%D9%85%D9%8").
Anybody have an idea on how to overcome this issue, implement a workaround or modify the "sourcedoc" behavior?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Hamza AlSughier

    Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your efforts, I already tried your last suggestion before, but this didn't solve my problem.
Actually my end users are accessing this portal using ADFS and HTTPS.
Finally I got this solved, I have done below to get my overall solution working perfectly:
    - First I have configured Windows Authentication and ADFS Authentication on the same zone which is the default zone.
    - The issue when opening office documents with Arabic file name has disappeared as a result of first change.
    - Then I have faced an issue where we are not able to crawl content under Default zone, however we have to do so, after too many efforts, I found that its related to the Load-balancer/proxy, I have made the crawler server
    to crawl himself (http://CrawlServerName:PortNumber).
    - Also a change on Alternate Access Mapping was needed, I have set one of the extended zones (which is running Windows Authentication only) as Internal URL for the Default Zone, and this is was the URL I used for Crawling.
I have configured Server Name Mappings to make sure we got proper URLs in Search Results.
    - Then we faced another issue, which is Authentication selection on login page (How to bypass this page, and authenticate using ADFS auto), I used this solution (Set Custom Sign In Page):
    http://0ut0ftheb0x.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/skip-the-authentication-selection-page-at-_logindefault-aspx-in-a-mixed-authentication-environment/.
    - I faced one more issue as a result of above workaround; Sign Out functionality wasn't working well; users get logged in automatically whenever I click on Sign Out. I solved this by modifying the "Sign Out" Control under _layouts;
I made it to redirect users to ADFS Sign Out Page instead of SharePoint Sign Out Page (I know its not recommended, but I don't have any other option).

  • Cmmd + O opens saved files as "Untitled."

In CS4, when I open a file via CMMD + O, the file opens as "untitled." The same result exists when opening a file via menu. However, if I select the file in the Finder folder and right click to open in Fireworks, the saved file's name is retained. — I was wondering if there is a fix for this issue.

Deselect the Open as Untitled option, and open a file. After that, all
files will open with their original file names.

  • Cannot open the file [filename].indd, ...

I have some older InDesign .indd files on a DVD that I'm trying to open in InDesign CS3. When I double-click the file, InDesign starts, but then I get the message "Cannot open the file [filename]. Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be opened in another application." I moved the folder with the files to my desktop -- same result. Curious thing is that the icons on these files are not correct -- just a generic windows file icon. Newer files that I created on this machine are fine. My OS is Vista. Any ideas?

In the past when I've seen that, it's been an indication of a corrupt
file. You might want to read this:

  • Can't open a file with spaces on the filename.

Lets say I have a file:
    /home/orv/Open - Me - Please.txt
When I double click to open that file with any program, the result is something like this:
    "Unable to find /home/orv/Open%20-%20Me%20-%20Please.txt"
I'm not sure what to call that process of converting the file name so I've been unable to google it up to find a fix or a way to change the behavior of the file manager.
I've checked the settings in Nautilus and nothings there. Any clues? Thank you!

I tried removing everything in my home directory to erase all settings, still the same problem.
I tried using a different file manager and still the same problem.
Here's another example of my problem and its quirks:
Lets say I have a file called:
    /home/orv/I am a Movie.avi
In nautilus or thunar, double-clicking that file so I can play it with Mplayer will give an error:
    Failed to open file:///home/orv/I%20am%20a%20Movie.avi
However, when I drag and drop using the file manager into Mplayer, it works.
So my problem is this automatic conversion of whitespaces into the %20 which I don't know how to turn off.

  • Applescript to open various files and add info from filename to the file

    Hi guys,
    first time using this forum...
and first time trying to do a script for apple...
I figured out how to do simple things... like open files and stuff to text files...  but don't know where to begin:
    I have a directory datalogs...
within the directory i have multiple text files that have the following format:
    dataXXYYY_Waf2_7_19_11.csv
    dataXXYYY_Waf3_7_19_13.csv
    dataXXYYY_Waf25_7_19_16.csv
typically 25 files, but sometimes less
I would like to be able to take each file within the datalogs folder ...
Scan the file name and look for the number afer Waf
The number can be anywhere from (single digit) 1 to 25
I would like to take that value after Waf  and then append a line in the txt file
the line I would have to add will be 5 rows down and it shoulld say:
    wafer,1
the 1 above is the value that was in the file name....
    i.e.
    for the file
    dataXXYYY_Waf25_7_19_16.csv
before append the file contains random data ... i.e.
    dummyline1
    dummyline2
    dummyline3
    dummyline4
    dummyline5
    dummyline6
    Then after the script...
the file will be saved with same name:
    dataXXYYY_Waf25_7_19_16.csv
and the data should look like:
    dummyline1
    dummyline2
    dummyline3
    dummyline4
    wafer,25
    dummyline5
    dummyline6
    any help will be appreciated
    -thanks

Copy your source folder - named 'datalogs' to your home directory and run this script by copying into a new AppleScript Editor document and pressing Run.
I think I've followed your specification, and there will be other ways to do this, but ask if you have questions.  (I have put comments in the code which should explain some of it!)
There is no error checking, but I have made copies of the original files in the source directory.  (You can comment out the line "duplicate theFile" by prefixing with "--" when you are sure it's working.
As always, ensure your data is backed-up before proceeding.
    --starts here
    --sets path to datalogs folder
set theDirectory to (path to home folder as text) & "datalogs"
    set fileNames to {}

--gets all the files in the source directory
set fileList to files of folder theDirectory
      --iterates through the files
              repeat with theFile in fileList
      --makes a duplicate
      duplicate theFile
--puts the fileName and fileLocation into records in a list of lists
                        set end of fileNames to {fileName:name of theFile, fileLoc:theFile as alias}
              end repeat
      --iterates thru the files
              repeat with theFile in fileNames
--gets offset of the string "Waf"
set WafOffset to offset of "Waf" in (fileName of theFile)
--trims the name so that it now starts with the character after "Waf"
set fileName to text (WafOffset + 3) thru end of fileName of theFile

--stores the desired number by trimming off the end of the file name

--sets up the text to insert by prefixing with "Wafer," and suffixing with return
set insertText to "Wafer," & fileNumber & character id 10
--opens the file with write permission
set FileRef to open for access (fileLoc of theFile) with write permission
      --initialise container
                        set fileContents to ""
--puts first five lines into container
                        repeat 5 times
set fileContents to fileContents & (read FileRef until character id 10)
                        end repeat
--adds the new text to the container

      --effectively empties the file
      set eof FileRef to 0
--writes contents of the container to the file
      write fileContents to FileRef
      --closes the file
      close access FileRef
              end repeat
    end tell
    --ends here

I get this error box when importing audio files into a logic session over my network.

  • Safari will not open PDF files. Attempts to do so result in a Blank screen.

Safari will no longer open PDF fies.
Attempts to open a PDF file from SAFARI resut in a Blank screen.
Firefox and Chrome open such files.
    Any solutions?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.
