  • I want to add my existing iPad Air 2 to a new iMac Retina 5K. Can I do this without erasing the contents of my iPad?

I just bought an iMac with Retina 5K display. I have an existing iPad Air 2. Can I connect the iPad to the iMac without erasing the contents of the iPad? If so how? Thanks for your help.

Hi. Actually you can connect your iPad to the iTunes without erasing the contents which purchased from iTunes Store. I suggest to import your photos taken by iPad to iMac the first time: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support.
Also you can click to stop syncing to avoid losing some contents.

If the music is on the same computer, import the songs to your iTunes library by dragging them into iTunes or choosing File > Add to Library (Mac) or File > Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library (Windows).  If the music is on different computers you can set up Home Sharing to copy the music from one library to the other (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620).

  • TS4036 is there a way to restore one item in the back up without erasing the entire ios devise or can you view your back up from your computer to save to the computer?

I erased an important recording off of my iphone 5.  It was backed up to the cloud but I don't want to erase everything else to restore this.  Is there a way to restore one item or is there a way to go into the cloud on the computer and download the recording?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
One of the cons of backups is that you have to restore the whole backup in order to restore one item.
As you have a backup, open Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. After erasing the device, it will ask you to restore a backup, so follow the steps. It's long but it's the only way to get this video back

Is there a way to put a playlist on my phone from my computer without erasing the other music from my phone?

Not if you set up very carefully what you want synced from your computer.  Make sure you have not set things to sync automatically and manually choose the settings of what gets synced

  • I mounted my external hard drive to a pc and now I don't have edit or write permissions on my Mac (read only). How do I get them back without erasing the drive?

Hello all, I am a photographer and have my portfolio, edited and raw images backed up on a Seagate Free Agent External Hardrive. I mounted my external hard drive to a pc recently and now I don't have edit or write permissions to it on my Mac (read only). How do I get them back without erasing the drive and loosing my valuable work?

If you re-format it you will lose all the data on it!!!!! So make sure you have backed up the drive or moved all the data on it to another external HD or the internal HD on your iMac.
Below is an Apple Advice letter that explains how to format an external HD, it's written for Aperture but you can use the instructions to formate any external HD.

  • Why Can't I Add Songs To My Ipod From Another Computer Without Erasing The Ones I Already Have?

I have an "Ipod Touch 4 generation" and I have two computers located in my home. I have authorized both computers for my ipod. Why is that when I go to a computer and authorize it, it will not let me download the songs on that computer, without erasing the ones I have already on my Ipod?

    Hi
This is because your iPod can only be synced with one computer, not just one iTunes account.

A friend of mine put music on my ipod from her itunes account. Now i can't put my music up there from my itunes account without erasing the other songs. How can i fix this?

"A friend of mine put music on my ipod from her itunes account. "
This is not legal.  You have no legal right to that music.
" Now i can't put my music up there from my itunes account without erasing the other songs. "
    That is correct.
    How can i fix this?
There is nothing to fix.  The ipod is designed to stop you from being able to steal music as you are doing.
Erase the music you got illegally and sync your own music to your own ipod.

  • Installing a clean OS X Mavericks without erasing the hard drive?

Is it possible to install a "clean" OS X Mavericks (i.e. a fresh OS, NOT just upgrading over the existing OS) without erasing the hard drive? I might be dating myself here, but I recall being able to do this with previous OS upgrades. I'm currently running Mountain Lion and think maybe something has gotten corrupted. I am specifically having trouble with Time Machine. I'm hoping a fresh OS will fix it, but I'd rather not erase my hard drive. Since Time Machine isn't working, backing up and restoring the hard drive would be tedious.

Use the Disk Utility to repartition the drive, or install Mavericks onto an external one. The Archive & Install option was removed in 10.6.

  • Iphone, How to add music files without erasing the previous song lists already in the iPhone.

    Hi
Is there a way to add additonal songs in the iPhone without deleting the songs already stored in the iPhone.
The problem is that most of the original songs stored in the PC has been erased in order to free up hard disk space.
Hence everytime when I link up the iPhone to the PC in order to add additional songs, the iPhone would sync itself to the iTune and erase what's already in the iPhone only to store the new songs.
If possible, I'd like to add not just single song multiple times but rather lists of songs in multiple folders at a time.
    Thank you for your help.

If you have manually manage music and videos checked and have disabled sync automatically, you can now drag and drop videos right onto the iPhone in iTunes. You can also delete songs and videos right from the iPhone in iTunes. Just click on the iPhone in the left pane, hit the music folder and drag and drop all you want and delete all you want.

You need to deauthorize your previous laptop and start using the new mac book. However, the songs will be erased as it only allow to sync with one iTunes at one time. I'm scared you have to add those songs from back up. Your photos also will be deleted if you choose to sync with new mac book. For contact and calendar, you will have the option to merge or to erase.

  • Syncing my iPhone 4S without erasing the calendar on my iMac

I want to use my iCal on my iMac (running 10.6.8) as the sole calendar so when I sync to my iPhone 4s I don't duplicate or lose the events on my iMac.  So all events added will be on the iMac and not the iPhone.  When I synched the phone in the past, it erased the iCal events on the computer an only kept the ones from the iPhone.  So in essence I want the iCal on the iPhone just to mirror whats been inputed on the iMac.
    Thanks!

The problem is your iTunes library on your MacBook is empty.
And if your iTunes library on your MacBook is empty, how were you able to sync your iPod Touch with your MacBook?
If your MacBook is authorized with the same iTunes account with iTunes that was used to purchase/download all this iTunes store content with your iPhone, with your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
This should copy all iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store with your iPhone to your iTunes library on your computer - all music, ringtones, and apps that were purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store.
After confirming all music, ringtones, and apps purchased from the iTunes store with your iPhone are now in your iTunes library on your computer, select Sync Music under the Music tab, select Sync Ringtones under the Ringtones tab, and select Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes making sure all music, ringtones, and apps currently on your iPhone is selected under these tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes before syncing.

  • I have music on my ipod and a new library on my new pc and i would like to merge both together.  How can i do this without erasing the one on my ipod?

I have an Ipod with alot of music on it that i have had for a while.  The PC i used to sync it to crashed and i lost my itunes library.  I now have a new PC and have already started loading new music onto it.  I now realize that the music that is on my Ipod is not on the PC yet.  I would like to know how to merge my ipod with the old music onto the new PC with the new music.  When i pluged it in Itues said it would erase the ipod and replace it with what is now on the PC and of course i said no.  So i now have two different libraries and would like to only have one made up of both.  Any help?

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Such a basic question, but I can't fine the answer anywhere.  We use InDesign CS4 for magazine production on a Mac.  The editor (on a PC, of course), wants to do edits on his end.  We understand this is what InCopy is for, but does the editor need a
