Opening A Link In New Window, While Leaving The Existing Webpage Open

Hi,
When I click on a link in a page, I want a new window to open with the contents of that link, leaving the 'linked from' page still open on my monitor. I don't want the existing 'linked from' page disappearing when the 'linked to' page opens on top of it. I don't think that in Internet Explorer, which I was using before, that the previous page disappeared in the way it does on Safari. I continually find myself losing the page I want to keep while I open another. In Preferences>General, I have tried to set Safari up to work the way I describe above, but I can't seem to find the right default procedure.
Or,
How do I leave the departure window open, and below the arrival window, when clicking a link from the former to the latter?
Thanks,
Rafael

Hi,
the only way I know of the is to go to file and click for a new Window.
Sounds like tabs maybe your thing, from Safari's Helpviewer. for more info look there.......
To turn on tabbed browsing, choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Tab. Select Enable Tabbed Browsing.
To open a link or bookmark in the bookmarks bar in a new tab, hold down the Command key and click the item, or hold down the Control key, click the item, and choose Open in New Tab from the shortcut menu.
To open a bookmark collection in the bookmarks bar or a folder of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Library in tabs, hold down the Control key, click the collection or folder, and choose Open in Tabs from the shortcut menu.
If you select the Auto-Click checkbox for a folder in the bookmarks bar, then you can open all the bookmarks in the folder in tabs by clicking the folder name in the bookmarks bar.
To open a webpage in a new tab, choose New Tab from the File menu and type the address for the page.
To close a tab, click the close button in the tab.
To quickly switch between tabs, press Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-].
To show a webpage that is in a tab and close all other tabs, hold down the Option key and click the close box in the tab you want to remain open.
When you click a link in a page you are viewing in a tab, the page opens in the current tab. Click the Back and Forward buttons in the address bar to scan pages you have opened in a tab.
If you choose a page from the History or Bookmarks menu, the page opens in the current tab.
Hope it helps you do what i think you are looking for.
Cheers

  • Put back "Open Link in New Window" first and default, rather than "Open Link in New Tab" in Safari 6.1

I do not like the order of the context menu changes in Safari 6.1.  I have become accustomed to using "Open Link In New Window" first in the context list, rather than the new "Open Link In New Tab".  I do not wish to use Tabs.  How may I remove this?

Well, I solved it just after I posted this.  I opened up the Safari Preferences, then went to the TABS section, and set "Open pages in tabs instead of windows: to NEVER", and unchecked "⌘-click opens a link in a new tab".   That set it back to open in new windows.
Tabs work if I am making quick tabs to refer to something.  Horrible if I want to compare two websites side by side.  So, by disabling the auto TAB function, I'm back to the way I prefer my browser to work, rather than the way something thinks I ought to use it.
Don't care about having all my browsers behavior the same.  If I wanted that, I would have run those browsers.

Already implemented the logics suggested in /people/mohammed.anzys/blog/2007/06/05/how-to-close-parent-window-in-webdynpro-applications , the thread ' URL in same window '  and the standard component WDR_TEST_EXIT_PLUG .But button is not triggerring any actions .plz help me  ..............
    Regards,
    Radhika

    hi,
    Do the following steps :
-> Make an Outbound Plug to the Window.
->Make the type of Outbound plug to Exit Type.
->Add URL of type String as a parameter to the outbound plug of Window.
->Do remember to add Component Name in the Properties Tab of View ( othervs Calling Outbound plug of window from view wont b possible ).
To open a new URL with closing the previous one write this Code in OnAction of Button : ( this Code can be get from Code Wizard too ).
DATA lo_zexit TYPE REF TO ig_zexit .   <zexit is name of my Component>
    lo_zexit =   wd_this->get_zexit_ctr( ).
      lo_zexit->fire_out_window_plg(
        url =   'http://www.google.com'                            " string
    I hope it helps.

  • Open quicktime link in new window

iweb has been incredibly easy to figure out for me so far, except this: i can't get it to open my links to quicktime files in a new window. (would also like the new window to match the size of the player, not open a full size window.) i dont happen to be using a .mac account.
tried just about everything i can find on the web but no luck...
im doing a film site, have put up still images on page, want to click on them and have a small window pop up containing the quicktime file, leaving the rest of the page available behind it. i have the quicktime files all ready, but no idea what next...
barely know a thing about html btw, which is why ive enjoyed iweb so far. is this possible? thanks for any info...

Use some javascript code to open your QuickTime files in a new browser window.
iWeb 2 allows "snippets" of code (copy/paste simple) or you can "hand edit" the published html file for your page to add them. Learning the basics of html will make this easier.
One of my very old pages as an example:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/bushbashquiz/index.html
A "quiz" I borrowed from a CNN page. Hand editing allowed me to change the questions and add my own answers.
Below the quiz are some "pop-up" windows (all done with javascript) that have some video examples in QuickTime formats. The "Flash" versions no longer display properly in QuickTime 7.4 so do not click on them.
Reading the page source code will show you how it was done. Learning more about html page coding will explain what you're reading.
It's as easy or as hard as you try to make it.

  • When I right click and select open link in new tab, it leaves the page I am on and takes me to the first tab to the right

I usually have many tabs open when I read the news, and it is nice to select open links in new tabs while scrolling through a news' home page. Lately, however, Mozilla has been opening the new tab, but switches the page I am viewing to the first tab to the right of the home page. For example, I had ESPN.com open, and then a few Facebook tabs after that to the right. Whenever I would select open link in new tab, the tab I was viewing would switch from ESPN.com to the first Facebook tab to the right, and the new tab would open a little further down the line. Any chance anyone knows how to fix this?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Open PDF Link in new window?

I want to create a Word document with hyperlinks to a variety of PDF files. I then want to create a PDF file from the Word document with hyperlinks intact.
Here’s the problem. The PDF file made from the Word document has its embedded links opening in the same window. I want the embedded links to open in a new window. I set up the links in the Word document to open in a new window, but when the Word document is converted to PDF, the embedded links lose their open-in-new-window property.
I know I can manually set the user preferences in Adobe Reader to not open cross-document links in same window, but that’s not the default.
Is there a script that can be run when the first PDF file is opened that automatically changes the user preferences so cross-document links open in a new window? Or is there a way to easily modify the links created during the Word-to-PDF process so that the cross-document links open in a new window?
    Thanks for any help.
    JBrush

I stumbled across this while trying to do a very simple project (or so I thought).  I also wanted my links
to other pdf files to open in a seperate Adobe window (not a browser window).  I can't seem to get it to work.
I tried right-clicking and selecting open in new window - didn't work.  I downloaded AutoBookmark as well.  It still didn't open in a new window after setting the option to do so for all links.
    Any suggestions?

  • Opening Dashboard Page in New Window While Passing Prompt Values

    Hi,
Currently it is not possible to open a dashboard page in a new window AND have the prompt values from a prior page pass to this page. I see one or the other can be accomplished but not both. Is there a way this can be acheived somehow or is there a workaround for this?

You are correct. The "Link or Image" object does not pass the dashboard prompt values, though it allows the destination dashboard to be opened up in a window.
    Here is a workaround.
    1) Place the link in a "Guided Nav. Link" object and set the destination dashboard and desired report. With the prompt set up correctly (i.e., dashboard scope, set to PV, destination report column filtered to receive the PV), the destination report will be filtered on the prompt as desired.
    2) I noticed (and maybe this is why you wish the "new window"), there is no "return" link on the destination report. To fix this, in the destination dashboard, add a Text object to the dashboard. In the properties, paste the code below and make sure to check off "Contains HTML markup." This will produce a "Return" button on the dashboard.
    <input type="button" value="Return" onclick="history.back();">
Now, when the user selects the prompt and clicks on the link, the prompt is passed to your second dashboard. When the user wishes to return, he/she can click on the "Return" button and return to the primary dashboard.

  • HYPERLINKS  is it possible to use "_blank" to open PDF links in new window?

When I export my PDF from Numbers '08, is it possible to have my Hyperlinks open in a new window? Possibly using the "_blank" HTML function inside the URL dialog? Right now the links just replace the PDF.
    *I've tried ex)*
    http://www.website.com target="_blank"
    http://www.website.com, target="_blank"
Those don't seem to work. Any ideas? Is this fixed in '09?
    Thanks
PS - seems there should be a checkbox saying "open hyperlink in new window". Just makes sense.

Yes, true. But there is a way (in HTML) to force a link to open in a new window by including the "target=_blank" command. I'm wondering if Apple (or anyone else) has found a way to embed this into the "Hyperlink" property within Numbers? If not, it would be nice if future versions had a check box to include this option with a link in the Hyperlink property inspector.
    Thanks for the feedback!

  • When I open a new windox in Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows XP, it opens not only a new window, but all my existing tabs reopen in the new window too--how do I fix this?

Whenever I open a new window in Firefox, it not only opens a new window with a new tab, it also opens all my existing tabs a second time in the new window. This has been happening for several days. Closing Firefox and rebooting doesn't solve the problem.
A related problem is that if I close all tabs and close Firefox, then reboot and re-open Firefox, all the tabs that were closed re-open too.
This is new behavior in Firefox in my experience.

Firefox opens the home pages in a new window, so if you want to open a new window blank then you need to set the home page to about:blank
You can check the startup setting:<br />
Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my home page" | "Show a blank page"

  • How can i open a link in new window (shift + Mouse Click) while not switching to the new window

I want to open a new window (shift + Mouse Click) while not switching to the newly opened window. The focus should remain on the window from where i have opened the link.

You can do that with tabs, but not with windows AFAIK.

  • Open StageWebView link in new window

I have a StageWebView displaying a webpage containing ads that are coming in from AdMob (due to their current lack of support for AS3 and AIR for Android).
However, when a user clicks on the ad, the linked page opens in that small window, so the content is barely even readable. Is there a way to make the browser open the intended link in a new window, seperate from my app?
Obviously AdMob ads were not intended to work this way, as both the user and the adveriser are getting cheated here (due to AdMob's current lack of support for AS3 and AIR for Android).
    Thanks!

I have a question as well.  I'm trying to display a stagewebview when the button is clicked but I want the stage webview to be on a new frame and take up the entire frame.  Here is code I have found but I can't get this to work like I need it to.
I'm trying to get Stagewebview to show on a new stage when a button is clicked.  Right now it just shows on the same stage  becuase code is this.stage.
Also, when it shows up on the new page I want to have back button, forward, and refresh and I want it on the top and not taking alot of space and only on the screen where it's showing the web view.
    Please help!!!!!!!!!!
    Here is the code:

    import flash.display.StageScaleMode;

  • When I open a link a new window opens with the toolbar and sidebar missing, on my previous machine the link simply opened in a new tab (not window).

When I open a link in Firefox instead of opening a new tab it opens in a new window with all of the toolbars missing including the sidebar, right clicking anywhere gives me no options to restore the toolbars. My old machine simply opened the same link that I am trying in a new tab with all my toolbars available.

  • Open web link in new window or tab

Is it possible to have Pages create links in pdf documents that open in a new tab or window? It is a nuisance to have to re-render the base Pages pdf exported document every time you click on a link.

This is hard because links in a page can work in multiple ways:
    * no "target" attribute - open in the same tab
    * "target" attribute set to:
** "_blank" - open in a new tab
** "name1" (used before and currently open) - replace the page in the "name1" tab
** "name2" (not used before or already closed) - open in a new tab
    * script attached to the link to override its normal behavior - a variety of results are possible, including a completely new window
You could try the settings tweaks in this old thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/985943
Does that do what you want?
