Opening a new link in a tab (contr+click or right click and open in new tab) causes ff to lose scroll position in first tab or main website, like google.

Opening a new link in a tab (contr+click or right click and open in new tab) causes ff to lose scroll position in first tab or main window, like google.
This does not happen when opening in a new window (shift+click).
It was never a problem in older versions. I now have ff 3.6.17. I' afraid to install ff4 because everytime i do so (install e new version) something i liked dissapears or good add ons dont work anymore!
I also don't like the fact that more and more of the adress barr is beïng used for crap i don't need. I'm a visual handicap and need all the space i can, just to read.
Thanks for helping me out.

• Previously, after I moved an attached file to another folder, there still remain a link so that I can click and open the file; but now there is no more link.

Previously, when I got an email with an attached file, I can take out the file to different folders as I desire and then a filelink would take the place of the file in the email. In this way, when I opened email again, I can click the filelink and open the attached file in the folder to which I had moved.
Now, I find that there is no more such filelink after I take out the file. The attached file cannot be opened within the email now. Is the program changed or I miss anything?

did you install an add-on that did that? or are you thinking of another mail program like Eudora?

• Firefox 8 puts new tabs opened from links in another tab at the end of the tab list, NOT next to the tab it came from like in V3.6. I want it next to the tab it came from. How do I get it to do this?

Question as stated, sums it up. When I click the mousewheel on a link in a tab I want a new tab open with that link and I want it next to the tab I clicked the link in just like Firefox V3.6 did. Firefox 8 is always opening the new tab at the end of the list and boy is this annoying!
Please tell me how to fix this.

type in the address bar '''about:config'''
then press the button '''i'l be careful i promise'''
then type in the bar '''browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent'''
then '''Right-click''' click on it, and select '''Toggle''', and you see changing the value from True to '''False'''.
exit firefox and restart.
thank you

• When I click to open anything I get a box saying open link in new window, open link in new tab, download linked file etc. When I go to close anything I get hide toolbar, customize toolbar. It takes 3-5 clicks and it will finally close.

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

• Links on websites will not open unless I right click and open in new tab/ window

This just started yesterday. Whenever I go to a website I am unable to just click on a link on the page and be directed. When the mouse goes over the link the info appears in the bottom bar but when I click nothing happens. In order to navigate to the link I have to right click and open in a new tab or page.
Please help on fixing this issue.
Thanks!

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• When I click on a web page link, it creates a bookmark does not open page, need to right click and open new page or tab

When I click on a web page link, it creates a bookmark does not open page, need to right click and open new page or tab

My own problem not a system one

• When I click on links in websites the links don't work unless I right click and choose open website in another tab/window. This is even a problem on the Firefox page.

When I try to open a link on any page/website Firefox does not open the link. It doesn't even "work" at opening the link, it just sits idling. I have to right click and choose "open link in new tab/window" in order for Firefox to open the link. It doesn't happen 100% of the time but happens especially if there is a button or picture that must be clicked. Simple text links seem to work more often then button or picture links. One example provided below. When you click on the "launch Jumpstart" button it will not open unless you right click & open new. This also happens from my Yahoo! Email account, on Facebook, Cructhfield.com and other websites with "button" related links.

I have the same problem but it appears that an add-on I'm using is causing the problem. Try opening Firefox in safe mode (which disables add-ons) Then try it. If that solves the problem, you need to disable all your add ons and enable them one by one to figure out which one(s) is causing the problem.

• Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL..

Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL. However, if I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Tab", the Tab shows URL in address bar. So it's working when it's a New Tab but not a New Window.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

• Open LINK in same TAB

Indesign CS5
When we insert a link using:
Buttons / Go to URL / ...
And then export to SWF. When we click on that button it opens the link in a new tab.
How can we make it open in the same tab?

This has been discussed but I don't think anyone's come up with an answer.

• When I click on a new site I want it to AUTOMATICALLY come up in a new tab WITHOUT HAVING TO RIGHT CLICK AND PUT 'OPEN IN NEW TAB'. It used to do this but has stopped,..., how do I do this?

Always before when I wanted to click on a new website or a location I found searching google for example, the new website or place I found ALWAYS POPPED UP IN A NEW TAB AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT me having to right click and say 'open in new tab'. For some reason it is not doing that anymore and when I click on an item it is coming up in the tab I am currently in. How can I set FF to automatically open a new tab whenever I click on a new site like it did before? This is driving me nuts since I am not a computer person at all and had it working the way I was used to before. Please help me fix it back.
Thank you so much.
Celeste

You can also hold down the Ctrl key and left-click or use an extension to force opening a link in a new tab.

• How do I get FF to focus on a new tab? I right-click and choose "Open in New Tab" and the Tab appears in the Tab bar but I cannot access or see the new page.

I open FF ver.10. My Home page is Google Search. I use a Bookmark and open, say, Hulu.com. I select a link by right-clicking and choose "Open in New Tab" The little tab in the tab bar opens but I am still viewing the Hulu.com main page and cannot view the new tab.
This happens even if I use middle-click to open a new tab. It happens with all links on any website I visit.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• How to open a several links in separate tabs in Safari you drag to more tabs button"

how can I open a several links in separate tabs in Firefox, In Safari you drag all the links to the "+" button and they all open in separate tabs.
This is different then the plug-in "Multilink and snaplink" since the links I need to open are not selectable they are just written on a document.
For instance, it would look like this:
http://www.hi1.com
http://www.hi2.com
http://www.hi3.com
etc.....
Thanks!!!

Hello CommeLeMois,
You should be able to open links in new tabs by holding the Command key (⌘) and clicking on the link. Check in Safari Preferences and looked and the Tab section to see if you have the right behavior enabled.

When I choose to open a new tab from a website, such as facebook, it always opens it in a new window. How do I change this to just opening a new tab. I tried changing the tab settings but it did not work. I did not have the problem until I started using firefox 4.

It is probably a JavaScript link.
You can probably force it where you want it with a keyboard shortcut
either "Ctrl+click" or "Ctrl+Shift+click". see

• FireFox current tab loses scrolling when a .PDF file is opened in a new tab through a hyperlink

Hey, This is Praveen!
I have a problem in FF 4.0 and even in the previous versions wherein when I open an .PDF file (in a new tab) from a link, the current tab loses scrolling until I switch over to the newly opened tab. Kindly address this issue.
Thank you!

Hi NSHS,
Have you checked to see if your PDF add-on is up to date? You should take a look at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article. There is a lot of good information in there. You should try both of the suggested PDF add-ons to see if that fixes the issue.
Hopefully this helps!
