Opening a new Safari window

Last year I downloaded a program that had a green icon that looks likes a round speedometer with "SS" on it. It is labeled "New Safari Window". When you click this, a new safari window opens. Can anyone tell me where to find this download? I have it on my imac but when I tried to transfer it to my macbook, it won't work there. Thanks

Version Tracker is a great source of info like this.
I went there and searched for "Safari".
Here is the URL for what they came up with:

I'm having trouble keeping up with this topic ... every time I've finished a post, there's three or four new replies showing up and the troubleshoot has moved on.
The toolbars can be (silently) installed by a number of different packages/websites, although I fear I'm well behind the times on what packages/websites are most commonly installing them for folks nowadays. There's a lot of variations about, as it's a platform rather than a specific application:

I'll defer to Carolyn on the state-of-the-art when it comes to removing the toolbars.

Safari is opening using the resume feature. To disable that, quit Safari using Command+Option+Q or Hold Option when choosing the menu item Safari>Quit.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • I can't open a new safari window by clicking the icon on the bottom

As above, I want to open multiple window by clicking the icon on the bottom but it does not work.
Is there somebody who helps this problem?
    Thanks.

I want to open multiple window by clicking the icon on the bottom but it does not work.
You can only open one Safari window at a time from the Safari icon in the Dock but you can save open Safari windows by clicking on the orange radio button top left in the Safari window. That will save that page to the right of the insertion mark on the Dock next to the Trash for easy access.

  • Why does my safari close when I try to open a new safari window/tab with the white plus sign?

Every time I hit the white plus sign the whole window closes. I just got this ipad from a friend who erased it. This has happened since I set it up and I have tried resetting it twice. Please help.

Pieter, thanks for starting your own new topic!
That is an old version of Safari.  Where did you say you got it from?
Do you have a backup of your 10.7.5 system?
You should update it to 5.1.7.
    Can you download from here?

  • How to make applescript open a new safari window with a specific name?

    tell application "Safari"
      activate
      make new document at end of every document with properties {name:"MY-NAME", URL:"http://www.google.com"}
    end tell
Run this script and see if you can figure out why the NAME of the window is still "Google".
The dictionary  shows several different NAMEs for windows, documents and tabs and only tabs are R/O.
    This doesn't do anything either:
    tell application "Safari"
      activate
      make new document at end of every document with properties {name:"MY-NAME", URL:"http://www.google.com"}
set the name of window 1 to "TEST"
    end tell

The title of the window is provided by the page source.
You can override it (once loaded) with, e.g,
do javascript "document.title='MY-NAME'" in document 1
If you had a blank Safari page (i.e. not Top Sites which does contain source data), you should be able to change the window title with
set name of document 1 to "MY-NAME"

  • New Safari windows very small

Since upgrading to Lion, when I open a new Safari window it is very small instead of being the same size as the original window.  How do I make new windows have the same size automatically?
    Thanks,

Resize the Safari window by dragging the lower right corner. Exit Safari. When you restart the first window should be the same size as the one you set before quitting.

  • IMac: How to open/save a Safari window of tabs on another screen page?

I would like to open another Safari window on a new page in order to scroll between the two screens on my iMac.
But when I open a new Safari window it opens ontop of the present Safari window ... (not - as hoped for - on a separate screen).
Can I open and save a new window on another screen. Please advise me on this if possible. Thank you.

    Hello patongandy,
It sounds like you are opening a new window in Safari, but it is opening on the main display and you would like to move it to your other monitor. You can do this with mission control as outlined in the following article:
OS X: Using multiple displays in Mavericks
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5891
Using Mission Control to organize windows and full-screen apps
App windows are assigned to a single space. You can use Mission Control to see all of the Spaces assigned to each display and to move them. To move a Space, drag it from one display to the other.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • How to have new Safari windows open in full screen?

    Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to have new Safari windows take up the full screen. For example, if I click on a link that opens a new window, I would like that new window to take on the fully maximized setting of the window it came from. So even if the website code says the window has to be 50% screen real estate, I would like to be 100% every time automatically.
    Thanks.

Yet another great thing that Glims can do!
If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! (Such as automatically deleting Flash cookies, enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.
When you have it, the setting is in Glims Preferences/General

  • How can I turn off Recently Websites when opening new Safari window? After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed.

How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.

  • How to force weblinks to open in a new Safari window

    Hi,
This morning, I just upgraded Lion from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4, and I upgraded Safari to Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2).  Since then, when I click on web links in messages in Mail, they seem to open in a tab in an existing Safari window, where they used to open in a new Safari window, which is what I want.  It also appears that these pages load, they are loading in an existing tab and flushing the history, so tabbed pages end up disappearing with no way to determine exactly what they once were.  My Safari tab preferences are "Open pages in tabs instead of windows:  Never", and the checkboxes below this option are both unchecked.  Any help would be much appreciated, as I usually have multiple Safari windows open, each with 2-4 tabs active, and this current behaviour is quite destructive.
    Thanks,
    Ken

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Stop "Open in Dashboard" widget from opening new Safari window when viewed

    Hi,
For the first time, tried Safari's "open in dashboard" to make a widget showing an area of a webpage that updates information frequently.
It worked, but now whenever the Dashboard is viewed, something in the code opens up a new Safari window, even starting up Safari first if need be. (Because of the url, I suspect some javascript is trying to set a third-party tracking cookie.) Safari preferences don't appear to matter.
Any way to prevent this?  2010 iMac/10.6.5/Safari 5.0.3.
    Thanks.

Open the General tab of the Safari preferences and correct the home page; the default page is this one. If it has become set to a folder on an FTP server or a local drive, that request will be sent to the Finder. (28252)
