Opening a particular pdf

I have lots of PDFs on my computer and they all open easily. However yesterday I had to open a really important application for which the deadline is the middle of next week. It 'appears' to be there but when i try to open it it is 'grey' and one page instead of 16. I opened it today from work with no problem, printed off a hard copy to have a look at and saved the file to disk BUT I've just tried to open it at home and am faced with the same problem. What is going on? Why can I open other PFDs but not this one?

Choosing a pdf reader and editor is something you will need to discuss elsewhere. Different permissions and different software may result in incompatibility problems &/or permissions may be set on pdf documents for instance so that they are intended to be read only.
Adobe is the Company behind original [http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Document_Format pdf] development and their reader is still free and popular software.
If the problem is work or education related can you ask your IT department for advice. What software is used at work where the problematic pdf opens ?

  • Problem opening a particular PDF document in ALL browsers

I have a problem a PDF document in all browsers.
I have a mail order account online and I am trying to open one of my statements by clicking on the PDF logo.
A new window opens and is either blank or tells me it cannot load (depending which browser used).  When the new window opens the address in the browser is an IP address / name of the company / document number.PDF
I have contacted the company but they tell me to either download the latest Adobe Reader (which I have), and try a different browser (which I have).
I have tried changing settings in all browsers as per instructions found on other sites, and I can open PDF docs from other sites and my pc no problem. This tells me that the problem lies with the company, yet they cannot seem to resolve.
Does anyone have any ideas or can shed light on this puzzling problem?
    So grateful, thanks.

Can you try to download that PDF to your local disk, and open it from there?

  • Trying to open a large PDF and receive "an internal error occurred"  with Adobe Pro. X

    Hello,
We have one user, she has Adobe Pro. X installed, that is having an issue opening a particular PDF that is 37 MBs in size.  When she tries to open it up, she receives the "an internal error occurred" message.  If she opens up another PDF that is in the same folder (all the PDFs is on the network share) that is smaller in size (less than 100 KB) it opens just fine.  I checked for any Adobe updates and downloaded and installed the update(s) that it found.
After it's been patched, I rebooted and still have the same issue.  Surprisingly nothing was found in my searches to help this....
    Thoughts?

    Hi screener333,
Did you get any errors during Acrobat installation?
If Acrobat is crashing during first launch then it might be an issue with licensing as well.
Please check the performance by enbaling the root user account on Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528

  • Reader 9 and 9.1 unable to open a specific .pdf - either in reader or browser

    My "crime" was :
I had Reader 9 installed, then opened a particular .pdf from a site in my I.E.8 browser - it opened fine (and I saved the document to my harddrive) - then to get to the root of the site while keeping the .pdf open I used "New Window" from I.E. menu which should just open the document one more time in a new Window (and allow me to the modify address in browser address field to get to the site root) - document opened but I.E.8 with Reader 9 froze, then I took the address and opened the document in FireFox , that made Firefox freeze also .
I then updated Reader 9 to 9.1 and searched for updates - to no avail - still same problem.   Tried to open the document , after re-boots , both in browser and by double-clicking the already saved .pdf  of that particular document - nothing worked , browser and reader still froze .....
Then uninstalled , rebooted , and re-installed Reader 9.1 , still couldn't open that particular document without Reader freezeing , neither in browser address nor by opening document from harddrive.
I should be underlined that other documents opened fine in Reader - atleast when opening from harddrive.....
Then I uninstalled Reader 9.1 once more , rebooted , and installed Reader 8.12 (which I had saved to my harddrive for a "rainy day"), now everything works fine - no freezeing - no problem .
Problem seems centered around Reader 9 and 9.1. and problems initiated through a browser problem........
    My setup :
Win XP (non-english/US) SP3 , AVG antivirus , ZoneAlarm Firewall , Windows Defender active , other protection programs also but no active components from those.
I think that Adobe needs to investigate this a lot.............

    Hi Mike ! ,
    Thanks for your answer.
I'm a *very experienced* "computer-user" that has "shot a lot problems" in my time , so from the start my assessment were that your advice would not fix the problem.  However out of respect for you and you kindly trying to help + knowing the "havoc" it can cause when one try to restrict some programs ability to act freely then I decided to take my time trying your advice.......
    so :
I turned off Windows defender + made a re-boot (no other anti-spyware/anti malware has been allowed active components for the time being) , un-installed Reader 8.12 + made re-boot , installed Reader 9.1 + made a re-boot , closed down ZoneAlarm Firewall protection and tried to open the problem document and got a freeze once again - so that was a no go....
Un-installed Reader 9.1 again , turned on Windows Defender, re-boot , installed Reader 8.12 , and "Voila" : no problem opening the document.....
I did however (once-again) notice one thing while having Reader 9.1 installed : When I opened the problem document and got a Reader 9.1 freeze then I noticed in the Windows taskmanager that 2 occurences of Reader 9.1 apparently were running after I had opened the document once from my harddrive !
I earlier had it "written down" to things happening in Windows when trying to shutdown the Reader 9.1 program , but now I think otherwise.....
I this this is a problem caused by moronic poor foresight from the programmers side.
I spend a whole lot of time last night trying to "shoot the problem" and did among other things make a search for the name of the problem document both inside Windows registry , and inside all files on my C: Harddrive .   However programmers (and companies) now adays tend to try to maximize code-protection and anti-user-tamper-ability of the program rather than making programs user friendly + easy to troubleshoot....
I gather from all of it that the Adobe Reader 9.1 got two major problems :
1: The program has some sort of malfunction due to poor programming that makes it think that because I , once , opened the document in two  seperate INTERNET EXPLORERs then now every time I try to open that particular document then Reader 9.1 has to try to open two instances of the Reader 9.1 and document at once - even if I just try to open the document , one instance , through WINDOWS EXPLORER !
2: The un-installer cannot make a proper clean-up when un-installing Reader 9.1 so somewhere on the harddrive , or in Windows , is left some settings , of which one is the problem causing this particular document to be tried to be opened as two Reader 9.1 instances when opening .
Ofcourse this is not easy to trouble shoot because of the modern way of thinking of programmers and companies.......
I spend a lot of time last night trying to squash out any leftover Reader 9.1 settings in registry and Windows by using techniques suggested in various forum threads but to no avail.  So I'm back to using the Reader 8.12 .
Personally I am *really tired* of being the un-paid trouble-shooter/trouble-locater - I'm probably not getting many "popularity votes" for uttering that - but hey ! : It's my life !

  • How to open-up a pdf file to a particular page via java? (file and page number from another program)

I have created an Access 2003 Form. Data is entered. The data can be viewed once entered in the same form format, with one addition. The addition is a link to another program where we store files. The files stored are pdf documents. Each document is a scanned file (500+ pages). The link can open-up the pdf file. I want the link to open-up the pdf file to a particular page. I will supply the page number from the database.
I am aware of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 PDF Open Parameters using a URL that specifies the file to be opened plus actions to be performed once the file is openend (i.e. http://example.org/doc.pdf#page=3). However, the 3rd party program transfers a file from a server to the client via java. The file does not go via a web browser. The java code transfer the file directly from the file server to the the client.
Any idea how to accomplish the task of viewing a particular page with the process flow described?
I am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.

So you are reading this file in a standalone version of Acrobat? If so then use the PDF Open Parameters /a option via the command line.
    Sabian
    Example:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat>Acrobat.exe /A "zoom=1000=OpenActions" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\SimpleSubmit.pdf"
    Where:
    Path to Acrobat: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat>Acrobat.exe
Note: The example starts in the Acrobat application directory
    Switch: /A
    Parameter Syntax: "zoom=1000=OpenActions"
    Path to file: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\SimpleSubmit.pdf"
Note: The quotes are very important for the syntax to work appropriately.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • Can I open an encrypted pdf file from Dropbox with my iPhone, iPad, or iPad Mini?

Mac OS 10.9.3 encrypts a pdf file using Acrobat XI, then sends it to Dropbox.  Mobile device retrieves encrypted file from Dropbox.  Then can mobile device user open (unencrypt) the pdf file?

George, you wrote something that encouraged me to try to encrypt a PDF document again using the security icon on the menu bar of my old Acrobat 8 Professional. It worked this time (it wouldn't encrypt on my first try, and I wrongly assumed that it wasn't compatible with Maverick OS).  I dropped document into Dropbox, retrieved it with mobile devices; and when I tapped on the document, it simply asked for the password and opened perfectly. When moving to a different screen, then back to the secured PDF file, one must re-enter the password again (which is good).
As far as what PDF viewer -- I don't know.  I have the Acrobat Reader APP on my devices, is that the reader the document is using??  I've never figured out which APPs are running at any particular time on these devices.
Many, many thanks for your reply!!

    Hello,
This looks this issue is specific to this particular banking site and we definitely want to know more to help resolve this issue. It is likely that this particular functionality is not supported on Firefox and I would suggest that you report this to the bank and request them to support it soon.
That said, there are a few things you can do from the details provided in the [[Websites don't load - troubleshoot and fix error messages]] SUMO article. Specifically, the section about [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]] and reporting the website might help us provide more information.
If this is a banking site used by any of the other volunteers who are willing to dig more to find out why, they will try to provide the resolution sooner.
I know this is not really a resolution that will help you, but given that I don't have much information as to what is the offending part of the website causing the issue, I can only suggest this much.
    Thank you

Okay, so are you facing this issue with all the machines or with a particular machine?
Does 'F9' key resolves the issue?

  • When I open one particular folder to play the games in it the pointer turns into a pinwheel and I cant open the game or close the folder unless I shut down my computer.  Never happened before and does not happen with any other folder on the desktop.

why does pointer become a pinwheel when I open one particular folder only and prevent me from opening the apps in it and then keep me from closing the folder unless I shut down the computer completely.  I can open all other folders on the desk top without a problem.  My game folder never gave me trouble before.

Try this. Open one of your files. The window that contains your picture is named at the top. Command click on the name and you'll see the entire path starting with its name and then moving to the folder, the folder it is contained in, etc all the way to down to the hard drive volume name. This should tell you where to find the folder.

  • I have Windows 98 and need Acrobat to open up the pdf files for 5.0

I have the old system, Windows 98 and presently have the free Adobe 5.0 version on my Compaq Presario Computer, and it is a 5242 model desktop.
I have inadvertanly switched over to Compaq Carbon Copy 32 Version 5.0 but since, have uninstalled it and now, on each of what was the pdf files initially of which I have, of which is at least 16 or more, on each of those files, an error message comes up and says "PROGRAM NOT FOUND," and states the following: "Windows cannot find CCW32EXE. This program is needed for opening the pdf files." And then it has a dialogue box with the computer operational symbol in it as C:\ and then it wants me to locate it. I cannot locate it through the "auto" because, this sytem being so old, doesn't have a magnifying glass or a "search" tool to do this in the "My Computer Icon on the Desktop as the Compaq people wanted me to do. I would have to do this manually. I have already talked to the Compaq people on their chat line and because of this, they said they couldn't help me with this problem and referred me over to you.
I've tried to find a download for 5.0, though I really don't think I need one since it is currently installed. I believe the proper way to fix this is to just convert the CCW32EXE over to the Acrobat pdf files and have those files opened and should open up all of my 15 or so files altogether at the same time because they all converted over to something else at the same time prior.
Are you able to help me?
But I believe to alleviate this problem, if you could just give me the information to be able to open up the pdf files to 5.0 and find out what download I may pursue, it might be able to correct this problem. I already have the 5.0 Acrobat installed, however.

    Hi Aandi,
I have followed your directions and I have the old system of Windows 98, so I had to go to "programs" and come up to Acrobat 5.0 and once in there, all of the Window there is greyed out, although I can still go to the tool bars above in it. I went to "file" and went to "open" and from there, I received an "open" window with a dialogue box in it and in that dialogue box as I scrolled down, it wants me to put in there, one of the following, "desktop," "my documents," "3 1/2 floppy [A:]," "[C:]," "system _save [D:]," ""[E:," "[F:]," ete; of these which do I pick in the "open" dialogue box? and down at the bottom, is the FILE NAME and what do I put in there? Just below that, it has the FILES OF TYPE which has there Adobe pdf Files, in it's dialogue box. I hit these, but I still get an error message of which basically says, "NOT FOUND, please put in proper file name given." And I don't know actually where it is given.
So, as you see, I am a novice in all of this and you can contact me at my e mail address which is [email protected]
and should a reply be needed, I'll come back to the forum for a reply.
I really need to open up the Adobe 5.0 pdf files. All of the pdf files, simultaneously went over to Compaq Carbon Copy 32 of which I since, uninstalled. But I really need to get back and open the Adobe 5.0 pdf files.
And I want to thank you for your support and eagerly awaiting your help.
    Thanks,
Now, I did do one of the following: I went to C: which came to Acobat 3 and I hit that which came to Reader and I hit that which came to the following: ACROBAT which gave me ACTIVE X - BROWSER - FONTS - HELP - OPTIONAL - PLUG-INS

  • I saw the responses on the page to opening and saving pdfs but it is cumbersome to shut down the function in Mozilla and work around it. Is there a fix coming?

Until the Firefox 23 update I had no difficulty opening or saving pdfs in Firefox, but since the most recent update (Firefox 23) I often get error messages about damaged files when I use the download button and try to open or save files. I've checked with another browser and they open or save fine. I've tried disabling the pdf but it is cumbersome. I am using MSWord 7 if that makes any difference. Is there a fix coming for this?

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select Adobe Reader Plugin for Netscape (or something similar). Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • How to open and read pdf and micrsoft word (.doc) files or documents

My problem is how to use my BB 9800 software version 6.0.0.546 to read/view pdf files and microsoft office documents. I have also bought documents to go from online and have installed it on my phone, but whenever i try to open it I receive a message that it is incompactible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Sammy.
Why not install a 3rd party PDF reader and Word Doc reader to help open and read pdf and micrsoft word (.doc) files or documents? You can google it and select one whose way of processing is simple and fast to help you with the related converting work.  It will be better if it is totally manual and can be customized by users according to our own favors. Remember to check its free trial package first if possible. I hope you success. Good luck.

When I try to open an .ai/pdf file received through my email, it won't open and asks for a password. I have never set up any kind of password for email security, but have tried typing in my standard passwords. Nothing works. I wonder if it has anything to do with the use of my Wacom3 Tablet...I've been having trouble with it and was getting the same message when trying to open the User's Manual in my Applications/WacomTablet file on my hard drive. Any suggestions? I just downloaded the latest version for the Wacom and recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (which I hate, and my CS3 hates, etc.)

It sounds like you have a a password-protected PDF. The password was set by the person who encoded it.

i appreciate your help with a workaround to get the old bookmarks. that works. however, the problem has morphed from that concern to why adobe reader [the default app.] won't open firefox .sqlite files. is the problem in adobe reader or firefox? also, how can i tell if the places.sqlite file is corrupt?
