Opening a PDF in Reader (can I default to 100%)

My boss would like for Adobe PDF Reader (and/or Professional) to automatically open documents at 100%. Is there a preference to do this?

I cannot open PDF files sent on my Outlook Express. This is a new problem not before experienced. I had a problem not being able to print PDF files a month ago and got good advice from another user as to how to delete Adobe Reader and install 8.1.2 which worked fine. I tried again with today but it did not work. I'm using XP and could use some help, please.
Thanks.

  • Automatic opening of PDF by Reader

How do I proceed if I don't want Adobe Reader (but another application) to automatically open all PDF documents?

    Thanks.

You can right click on any PDF document and click on the "Open With > Chose Program" option. In the dialog that appears, select the application that you want to associate with opening the PDFs and ensure to check the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog that states something like "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Clicking on OK would change the PDF ownership to the new applciation.

  • Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file that can be opened with Reader 9?

Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file within a browser that can be opened with Reader 9?

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

  • When trying to open a PDF in Reader so I can view my utility bill, it opens in MS Word. Why?

When trying to open a PDF when accessing my Utility Company to view my bill, it opens in MS Word in a foreign language. I have not made any such adjustment nor selected MS Word to open my PDF files. Why? Further, what has happened to make this occur? I have tried everything I am aware of to no avail.

    Hi History14,
Thank you for posting on the forums. Kindly try the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue.
    1) Right click on the utility bill
    2) choose the option open with
    3) Choose default program
    4) Select Adobe Reader from the list

  • "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" error when trying to open a PDF in Reader

A few of our employess (only 3 out of over 100 so far) have been getting the error, "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when trying to open some PDFs. Other people are able to open the same PDF files with no error. It's happening on about 10% of the time. I've read a bunch of threads here with this isue and tried some suggested fixes and nothing has resolved the issue. Here is what I have found works and does not work and the info on their computers:
    Computers:
1 Dell Vostro desktop running WIndows 7
    1 Toshiba Satellite C55 runnign Windows 8
1 Samsung ATIV Book 4 running Windows 8
All using Adobe Reader XI but we did uninstall that version and tried previous versions and still got the error.
    Did Not Work:
As suggested by the company that we use online for claims adjustments where this error is occuring, we tried using a different PDF creator since the files were created using a free PDF creator by the employees. PDF995 and PDFcreator (pdfforge) did not resolve the issue. I then created the PDFs with my Adobe Acrobat, uploaded from my computer to the online program, and that did not resolve the issue.
Saving the file to hard drive and then opening in Adobe did not work.
Turning off Protected Mode and Enhanced Security did not work.
Compatibility View settings enabled in Internet Explorer 10 did not resolve the issue. The previously mentioned claims adjustment software company we use online was code for IE so is not fully compatible with other browsers.
That being said I did try to open the PDF files in Chrome and it also did not work. Same error message.
    Does work:
I download the file they cannot open onto my hard drive, open in Adobe Acrobat, Save as a pdf, then email it to them and they can open it via email attachment.
If they close the error and continue trying to open the file over and over sometimes it will eventually open.
Is there a setting in Windows that is preventing them from opening a small % of files some of the time? Thanks in advance for any help!
    James

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Error when opening =any= PDF with Reader

Hi!  Since installing the new Reader software, I keep getting the same error message whenever I try to open =any= PDF, from those on my system for some time to those just downloaded.
    The error message says:
    Attempt to access invalid address
I can open any PDF with Sumatra or Foxit, so it's not in the file...

    Hi  Bruce,
Are you using EMET Antivirus? I have seen the issue caused due to this. Try disabling it and  check.
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.

  • Can't open pdf using Reader X

I have a pdf file that was created by Page Manager version 7.15.35.  I am unable to open this pdf when using Reader X; Reader opens but I get a blank dialog; no error message is produced.  I tried turning off Protected Mode bu that made no difference.  If I uninstall Reader X and install Reader 9.3 then I am able to open the pdf successfully.  I am able to open other pdfs using Reader X.  My only problem is with a pdf created by Page Manager 7.15.35.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks

Thx, Stix.  Upgrading to 4.0 apparently solved the issue.

    Hi $Comptroller,
What are you using to open the PDFs? Reader or Acrobat? It may be that there's a problem with the application that you're using to open the PDFs. Please update (first) or repair Acrobat or Reader following the instructions in this document: Can't open PDF
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Can open PDF with Reader V 8 but not with V 9

My Problem is that I can open the PDF  C0000000005.pdf with every Version of Adobe Reader, but the PDF  C0000000006.pdf only opens with older Versions then Adobe Reader 9.1.
The Adobe Reader 9.1 can also display the PDF  C0000000006.pdf when I open another PDF before.
Is this a bug or is there anything what is must change in the options?
    Thanks in advance,
    Martin

I have install the Version 9.1.2 on another PC too.
And when no Acrobat Reader is already open and I make a double click at the C000000006.pdf, the Reader can not show this PDF.
But it works fine, when I open first the Acrobat Reader V9.1.2 and then I choice the PDF over the menu.
What can be different on this two methods to open the PDF?

  • How to set "Read mode" as default view for a pdf?

    Hi All,
I have a requirement to open a pdf in "Read mode" (to get the floating toolbar) whenever an user open it in Acrobat Reader. Is there anyway to set this option in the pdf like "Open in full screen mode"?
    Or
Can we add any little javascript to acheive this?
    Or
Is there any other way to get the floating toolbar and add it into the pdf whenever we require?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Muthuraj. D

No. Read Mode is a choice made by the user, nothing in the document can force it to happen.
There is no scripting or API access to the heads-up-display "floating toolbar".

  • Can't open ANY pdf files. Updated to 10.1.8--still "Access Denied."

    Hello everyone,
I am currently unable to open any PDF files.
I recently did a clean re-install of Windows 7 (restored my Toshiba Satellite to out-of-the-box state).
After that, I restored all of my personal files from an external HD.
Now, every time I try to open a PDF, Adobe Reader gives me the following message:
"There was an error opening the file. Access denied."
The only solution I've been able to find online has been this:
Edit > Preferences > General> Clear "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
    Also,
Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)> Clear "Enable Enhanced Security"
Neither of these has fixed my problem.
I also updated to the lastest version--10.1.8--with no success.
I also re-downloaded and installed PDF Creator and its companion, PDF Architect. Curiously enough, I can't open any PDF in that program either. I'm not sure if there is some global setting I'm missing or something.
Access to these files is critical to my work, so any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Lauren

I updated from within the Adobe Reader X program (Help > Check for Updates) and it tells me: No updates available. Installed: Adober Reader X (10.1.8) MUI
Is 11.0.5 something I would have to access another way?
Also, I'm still not sure if that would fix my problem. It seems most people with the "Access Denied" error had it fixed with the very first 10.1 update, and I have 10.1.8, so I'm not sure what's causing mine.

  • IE can, FF can't, open a PDF

We have a system that has PDF forms.  From Flex you pick a form and open it for editing or reviewing.
In IE we can open a PDF, but we can't do that from Firefox.  I've read the FAQ and tried the suggestions, but it isn't working.
    Any ideas?

In Firefox, try going to Tools>options>Applications and set Adobe Acrobat Documents to open in Acrobat if it's not already.
    Does that help?
