Opening a poweroint on keynote

Someone is trying to send me a powerpoint as an attachment. Then attachment ends in "ppt.html" How can I open this with my computer. It always asks to open it as a web page and then I just get an encrypted message.

Have you tried just removing the .html from the file name (a dialog will pop up warning you against this, just chose the option allowing you to do so), leaving the .ppt at the end?

  • Can't Open Pages, Numbers or Keynote through iCloud on my PC

Went to my PC this morning and logged into iCloud. I noticed a new ICON for iCloud Drive. Never saw it before. I tried to open Pages to update a document and couldn't open Pages, Numbers or Keynote. I was greeted with the picture below.Without any warning Apple is telling me if I want to ever see these documents again on my PC I must update all my devices to IOS 8 immediately and then activate iCloud Drive on all devices. Not something I wanted to see on a day I needed my presentations for a client. How can we ever trust Apple again with significant documents? Have any of you experienced this?

For those of you who woke up this morning and tried to access Pages, Numbers or Keynote on your PC running Windows XP. Sorry the party is over and it ended without warning from Apple.
Here is an update just confirmed by an Apple Senior Advisor.
This is what Apple did without warning.
    1. Took Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents and moved them to iCloud Drive making them NO LONGER AVAILABLE on a PC just by logging into iCloud.com.
    2. Gave us an option to view them on a PC only after you upgrade all your devices that use those apps to IOS 8.
    3. You then must activate iCloud drive on your devices and PC but only if you are not running WINDOWS XP because iCloud Drive is not supported on a PC running XP.
Conclusion, if you have a PC running WINDOWS XP hurray up and purchase WINDOWS 8 and upgrade your PC, then upgrade all your iDevices to IOS 8 then activate iCloud Drive and you may be able to once again see your documents on a PC. I don't know who will pay you for the day off to do all this but that's not Apples concern. They are to busy hyping the new iPhone to worry about keeping you in business. It's only their business that counts.

  • Can't open NEW Pages 5, Keynote 6 or Numbers 3 documents

Some time after updating to the newest version of Pages, Numbers and Keynote my Mac stopped being able to open new, blank documents or templates in these apps. The apps all just hang. I have to force quit them. Existing documents open. I just can't start new documents. I threw all 3 apps in the trash and emptied, then re-installed from the App Store; same thing. I re-installed iWork '09 and everything works as expected. I then updated the iWork '09 apps from the App Store to the current versions. Back to the problem. On a separate but possibly related topic, Preview will not open any files. It hangs similarly and must be force quit. Fixed disk permissions in Disk Utility. No change. What could possibly be preventing the apps from opening new documents?

No replies.  Am I the only one with this problem?  Tried again.  Started a new document in Keynote on my Mac with just 5 slides, saved it to iCloud Drive.  The document opens fine on my iPhone and iPad but when I try to open it on the Mac, I get the message that it cannot be opened.  Indeed, I cannot open any of my Keynote documents that are stored in iCloud Drive.  I am using the latest Keynote and Yosemite on my Retina MBP.

  • I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Is there Apple software that will work on the notebook allowing me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents that I've placed in Dropbox?

I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word  (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox?  I hope not!!

If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.

  • Why can't i open my files in keynote?

Why can't I open my files in keynote?

I can't find "Download hd". The question is better addressed to the developer of that app. Unless you have the name wrong?

  • I cannot open pages, numbers or keynote on iCloud?

I cannot open pages, numbers or keynote on iCloud?

    Hi..
Try this support article > iCloud: Troubleshooting Documents in the Cloud
If nothing there helped, and you are using Safari to access iCloud.com...
With Safari open, press Comand + Option + E on your keyboard to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari, try iCloud.com
If that didn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
Then quit and relaunch Safari again, try iCloud.com
If that doesn't help, on your Mac, open System Preferecesn > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data then reselect it. Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data then try iCloud.com.

  • Mac Pro with 6 displays open 6 instance of keynote one on each screen

I am looking to purchase a Mac Pro with 6 Thunderbolt out to drive 6 displays. My question is this..
Can I use a a command like the following to open a 6 different keynote presentations and place each on a different screen.
n=6 ; for (( p=1; p<n; p++)) ; do open -n /Users/username/Desktop/Presentationname.key then some argument to dictate which display the file opens on.
    Thanks
    James Denney

Mavericks brings in a new way of working with displays.
    Multiple Displays
Desktop with menu bar and Dock
Each display connected to your Mac has [can have] a desktop with its own menu bar, so there’s nothing to configure. The Dock is available when you move your cursor to the bottom of the screen, letting you easily access menus and apps from anywhere.
    Full-screen apps on each display
You can use full-screen apps on each display connected to your Mac. Swipe on the trackpad or mouse to switch between full-screen apps.
    Multidisplay Mission Control
OS X Mavericks makes it easy to manage the apps running on each display. Mission Control shows you everything that’s on each display, including windows on the desktop and full-screen apps. If you want to move an app from one display to another, simply drag its thumbnail to the desired display.
It is not clear whether this gives complete ability to launch multiple instances of Keynote, one in each of several displays -- my expectation is that it does NOT. I think you will have to experiment a bit to find the true capabilities.

  • Can't open powerpoint files in keynote since Mountain Lion upgrade

Not having much luck and not sure which forum to post in as this could be a Mountain Lion issue, an iWork issue, but is also an iWork and/or IOS6 issue!
Until last week I had Lion on iMac and IOS5 on iPad. I was able to log on to my work network server (school network, I am a teacher) and open powerpoint, word or excel files in keynote, pages or numbers on my iPad. I then upgraded to IOS6 and now none of the files will open up on my iPad. I get the open in screen when I choose a file to open, then nothing happens.
In the meantime, I upgraded my iMac from Lion to Mountain Lion. Since I was having problems accessing my work files and viewing them on my iPad, I decided to buy Keynote on my iMac in the hope that I could get on with some work on iMac rather than iPad. I logged on to my school server and tried to open a powerpoint file and for some reason it downloads it as a pptx.exe and if I try to open it I get an error message saying "You can't open the application xxx.pptx.exe because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OSX". It shouldn't be a .exe file it should just be a powerpoint file! When I open Keynote and look for available files on my iMac, the file I just downloaded is greyed out.
Hmmmmm so I have an iMac, an iPad, two versions of the Keynote app (plus numbers and pages on the ipad) and can't open any of my files from my school network. That seems a lot of money in one pot Apple and something has changed from Lion to Mountain Lion, and from IOS5 to IOS6 which is preventing me from doing my work. IOS5 allowed me to open any ppt, xls, doc, pptx, xlsx, docx file from my school network so why since upgrading to IOS6 can I suddenly not open them??
Now having forked out for Keynote on my iMac, I have the same problem.
I am able to open attachments in emails and I am able to log on to the school VLE and access and open files. So it is just something to do with opening from the normal file system that I can't do.
I posted in the iPad and iWork forum and had no replies. However, Apple iWork team have contacted me after reading my post re the iPad issue of opening files from my network. I've provided info to them and am waiting for a response, but in the meantime I have now discovered there is also an issue on my iMac. Hopefully they will read this too or someone else will perhaps know what is going on.
It is a worry that I can't do any work using my Apple products seeing as I have bought them! I have had to go back to bringing my windows laptop home everyday which I hope is a short term solution. I have loved the fact that I could access everything on my school network from my iPad in the past and not have to drag a laptop around. I am also worried that this means pupils can't access the files too if they are using Macs, iphones, ipads etc and have upgraded to Mountain Lion or IOS6.
    Hoping someone can help
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response but I think you've misunderstood the problem. I can not open any type of PowerPoint file off my server in keynote. This includes .ppt and .pptx files. (Also includes .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx in pages and numbers).
Even if what you said worked it would take forever to go through every file and save them all as ppt 2007. Plus of course, I don't know what files I will need when. There are hundreds of resources I need to access when I'm at home. I need the flexibility to view the files when i need to and on the go. Normally I can download them off my school network on to my iPad in keynote and edit them then I email them back to myself ready to use the next day or to save back to my network. Currently I can not download any Microsoft office file. So I am now forced to have to lug my laptop home everyday, rendering my iPad and iMac useless. I can't pre-empt what I'll need and save it as .ppt as that is completely inflexible and that won't open anyways as this is not an issue with the version of PowerPoint file. This is an issue with how all Microsoft files are downloading from my school network to my iPad and iMac. I want Apple to allow this to work like it used to before the upgrades in operating systems. I wish I hadn't upgraded as it worked perfectly. :(

  • HT4636 Can you open a PDF in Keynote for iPad?

I am a designer using InDesign.  I'd like to export my presentation to PDF and then open on my iPad using Keynote. Doable?

Are you in Safari and you want to copy them to iBooks, or you in a different app ? Assuming that you are using Safari, then if I open a PDF on my first gen iPad in Safari and tap on it, I then get a pop-up bar at the top of it with the 'Open In' options.

  • Opening ppt in Ipad - Keynote

I tried opening a power point presentation on my ipad by keynote but the ppt was not opening by keynote. It given me the following message:
Presentation Couldn't be imported. The document can't be opened because it contains cells outside the boundaries of Numbers.
    Any suggestions>

Do you have a table with more than 256 columns or 65,536 rows? Those are the limits of tables in numbers tables.

  • Office Open XML PowerPoint in Keynote?

Has anybody found a way to import Office 2007 .pptm files in Keynote? One of my profs last quarter posted everything in his online class in the latest version of PowerPoint (instead of just simple docs...) and I was hopelessly stuck having to go into the school to convert them on their computers which defeated the reasons for taking an online class. I saw that Pages was able to import Office Open XML files and hoped that Keynote would be able to also.
I have Windows installed under BootCamp and Parallels for some modeling tools, but I don't feel like getting an old copy of Office and Microsoft's XML document converter just to be able to convert one type of document. This latest iWork successfully replaced NeoOffice for everything I needed and saves me from going into Windows that much more. (Numbers is brilliant!)
Maybe more XML document importing will be added with a point release of iWork?

This problem bit one of my Mac users, and it took me a little while to figure out what was going on.
In Office 2008 for Windows, there are two new types of file formats. One type ends with an 'x', the other with an 'm'. Both are OOXML-based ("Office Open XML"), but the latter is "macro-enabled". For some reason, Keynote and Pages (and possibly Numbers?) seem to be unable to open or import the 'm' files, but AFAIK all are capable of importing the 'x' files.
I'll refrain from expressing my opinion on Microsoft's choice to invent and use this new "standard" format, but it seems the fact that it's XML-based seems to work in our favor here. On a whim, I tried changing the extension of an unopenable .pptm presentation to .pptx (without making any further modifications) and opening it in Keynote. And boom! It imported smoothly.
I'm not sure if this works the same with other types by converting .docm to .docx or .xlsm to .xlsx, but it's worth a try. Post your results here, I'm curious.

  • Is it possible to open eps files with Keynote?

I have some eps Clipart files that I have been trying to edit so I can use the individual clipart images instead of having to crop a jpef or tiff copy of the original file.
However, I can't seem to open the eps version of the file in any of the applications I have, which makes the files almost impossible to use...
Is there any way of actually opening the eps files with Keynote, or does anyone know of a program or app that I can open these with?
    Thanks!

There are a number of compatibility reasons why Keynote will not open eps files
I use Illustrator to open, then save as a different file any eps files which Keynote wont open directly.

  • Why won't old Word files open?  Only option to open is to use Keynote

Why can't I open older word files not that I have upgraded to Snow Leopard? I assume this is the problem. It seems like I have to purchase Keynote if I want to open old documents???

It seems that your file/application associations have become corrupt. These files (.doc and .docx) are WORD files, as you said, but your Mac has forgotten.
To fix this: highlight a .doc file, and GET INFO (Control-I). In the window which opens, you'll see an "Open with" drop-down box, with a list of possible apps, and "other". Set this to "Microsoft Word" (If that's not already in the list, find it under "other"). Then "Use this application to open all documents like this one", click "Change all ...". Repeat this procedure with a .docx file.
This will most likely work, but If it doesn't, please get back here, describing exactly what you see in those "Info" windows, and what happens.
    Good luck!

  • Can't open file error in Keynote 3. But OK in 2.

I have a file (with custom themes) that opens fine in keynote 2 but can't be opened with keynote 3. It gives me the error "can't open file ... ".
    Any ideas?

    Just forgot about the issue.

  • I can't open pptx files on keynote 6.2

Hi. I am an Iwork user who got a pptx file from a windows user. The problem is that I can't open it on keynote, even when I can open it on my ios devices. I can see it in preview, but can't save it. It is strange because I had been aple to open other powerpoint's docs. before. I had tried changing the doc title, the doc .name, and if might be useful, might even try to convert it to something else. But, my question is, isn't keynote supposed to open it? Thanks.
    jro

Gary: thanks for your reply. Neither one or the other. As my title states, I am using the latest version of keynote, and also, as I said, I am able to open it on my ios devices (ipad and iphone) so, that means that the file isn't corrupt.
