Opening a Premiere Pro file on a different computer

My Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.1.0 project file was created and worked upon on my personal macbook laptop. I have been working entirely off of an external hard drive that was plugged into my macbook. I plugged my hard drive into a different mac computer that has the same up to date Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.1.0 version of the software, but I repeatedly receive the message that my file was created in a "newer version" of Premiere and cannot be opened. If anyone has any idea how I can open the file, please help me. Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements Project file wount open in Premiere Pro CS6

My friend Just bought Premiere elements 13 and created a Project. I cant open the Project in Premiere Pro CS6. Getting this error message:
"The Project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened."
The Project workes fine in Premiere Elements 13
What can I do? What is wrong?

    If you have done this:
Import a Premiere Elements project (Windows only)
       Select File > Open Project.
Browse to an Adobe Premiere Elements project file, with file extension PREL.
       Click Open.
Premiere Pro converts the Premiere Elements project file to a Premiere Pro project file.
and it wont work Elements 13 is probably too new for CS6.

  • CS6 Premiere Pro file not opening, saying file is not supported

I have been working on a video piece and when I tried to open it recently to continue editing it, it said there was an error importing and that my file was not supported. When the file opened all the film didn't show up and was replaced by 'media pending' or something along those lines.
I don't know how to fix this as there is no reason the files should be incompatible as I haven't changed them from their original Premiere Pro files.
    Does anyone have a solution?

  • Opening A Premiere Pro CS6 Project in Premiere Pro CS 5.5

I downloaded Premiere Pro CS 6. I already have Premiere Pro CS 5.5 on my computer. I had read you can open up a CS 6 Project in CS 5.5 by doing the following:
    1) Saving your project file on your Hard Drive
    2) Copy it just for back up
    3) Right Click (Control Click) on the original Project File and open it up in Text Edit.
    4) On the fourth row Change Version "25" to Version "24"
    5) Save it.
I opened up Premiere Pro 5.5 and went to File (that I just changed to open in Premiere CS 5.5) - Open Project - and I then clicked on that file. It started to open up. When Premiere 5.5 was open this dialog box came up:
I clicked OK and everything opened up in 5.5 fine. It worked great. You can open up a CS6 project in Premiere 5.5.
What does this box mean? I installed CS 6 as is. I did not add any third party files or transitions or filters.
    Thanks in Advance

this is the best piece of advice i have found. thankyou so much edwurd. I have premiere pro 5.5 and 6, I had to upgrade to 6 for some commercial work, but half my plugins have now gone into another dimension and 6 doesn;t see them these consist of red giant and new blue fx plugins mostly. These all work great in 5.5 premiere but of course with new projects now in 6 half of them cease to be seen by the plugin loader even though they are in the cache after 11 days of installing and reinstalling still no one can help. I had a huge project i was working layered with all these third party plugins that 6 didn't want to play with anymore, although it used to, I just tried your suggestion. and it worked perfectly, i didn't even get the error box the whole thing / 6 project /  opened beautifully in 5.5 with all plugins functioning and happy. Thankyou again. you are a legend.

  • Can you transfer files in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 from a Mac computer to a PC that also has Adobe

I am looking into buying Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for my iMac computer, because the guy that I am going to help out is in another state, using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 on his PC, we will both be editing video to be featured on the Pursuit channel.  My question is will we be able to open up each other's video files, seeing that I am on a iMac and he is on a PC if we are both using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?  Right now I am using Final Cut Pro X, and he can't read my files, the codecs won't work he says.   Please help this is driving me crazy

Yes, project files are cross-platform. There are a few caveats, described here:

  • Bridge CC crashes when opened in Premiere Pro CC

Bridge CC tends to crash regularly when open in Premiere Pro CC. Sometimes it takes longer to crash than other times. sometimes it doesn't crash at all but it appears if I leave both programs open for an hour and then come back to work on a job it will crash in the middle of looking at footage to import into premiere. Is this a bug or is there some way to fix it on my computer?

Need more info.  What OS and ram?
Bridge is a processor intensive program and if processing video in Pro CC it could starve computer for resources.

  • How do I import a Premiere Pro file into After Effects

So I'm an editor, I cut trailers and TV spots. I enjoy making my title cards on After Effects because it gives me a lot of options but I'm having difficulty. How do I import / edit a Premiere Pro file into After Effects? I imported the project file but the whole thing was a mess and nothing made sense. Can anyone explain this process to me?
By the way I used CS5.5 versions of the software.

It actually works better if you go the other way... link an AE comp into your Premiere project.
Create and link to After Effects compositions with Dynamic Link

  • Success!  Solution to .DV files unable to be opened in Premiere Pro

I'm super excited to have finally figured out why my .DV files kept getting "file type not supported" messages when I tried to import them into Premiere Pro.  I had used them previously before I wiped the hard drive on my laptop.  After Effects also did not recognize them.  Having spent some time on the phone with Adobe support, I finally stumbled upon the solution on my own.  I installed Quicktime, exited out of both Premiere Pro and After Effects, opened both programs, and the .DV files worked perfectly.
Like I said, it is great to have this problem behind me... I've been trying to fix it for quite some time.  Now I can finally get back to work on my video project!

This is not from an emperical survey, but only observing the posts in the forum:
It does seem that installation issues are greater in CS4. Now, there was a problem with the MSI (Micro$oft Installer), and that did not help. Still, enough install issues to make note of.
Then, the CS4.1 update seems to have installation issues for some. Don't know if this is specific to their systems, or there is something else afoot. The problems do not seem to be universal, but appear randomly - by the reporting.
    To sum:
    More installation issues? Seems so.
Am I sure? No, as there could be a larger user base, or maybe just more folk coming here with their issues...

  • Project not opening in Premiere Pro CS2

Tody I started working on a project and imported a bunch of .wmv files to work with, to skip having to separately import the ones I need, I decided to import the whole folder. It worked all fine, until I tried opening the project again. It starts loading the project but after some time the program quits without any notification.
At first I thought it was just some little thing like the fact that premiere pro exceeded about 2 GB's of ram and it closed because it doesn't work well with paging file memory, so I tried opening the project on my laptop which had a lot more ram but the same result.

Thanks, i found out that the trouble was that I imported too many clips, had to move them to a different folder so premiere would ask where they were, offline them all, remove the ones that I didn't need and re-link the ones that I needed.
