Opening a project created in 5.1 in 5.0

is there a work around? I was editing on my macbook, (FCP 5.1.2) which I've left at home, and now I want to make a few tweaks on the G5 here, (FCP 5.0.4) but I get general error (41), and I then discover that one can't open 5.1 projects in previous versions. Is there a work around? I could instruct my lodger to do basic things with the project at home and then email me a new version - or is there a handy little app that will convert?. deadline looms - any help much appreciated.
Its a bit of a liberty that apple think its ok to force me to pay the £39 upgrade fee for few benefits other than being able to move form one machine to another.

tell your lodger to use File > Export > XML ... make sure he chooses XML version 2 not version 3 (which is the default) as your FCP5.0.4 won't be able to read that either

  • Why can't iMovie 09 open a project created in an earlier version of iMovie?

I recently bought a new (intel) iMac with iMovie 09 to replace our old (PowerPC) iMac G5. I had created several movie projects in iMovie on the old iMac, but these are apparently unreadable on the new one. I presume this may have something to do with the switch to intel - but is there any way I can import the files?
The files contain slideshows of still photos with music and some video mixed in - and I'd like to update them with newer material, so importing the entire file as a quicktime movie or something like that would not really help...

YOU SAY - AppleMan1958: iMovie will import video from old projects, but not photos.
Perhaps - but how? I cannot open project from 08, have read many forum posts from others with the same goal ...that have been unable to import/open previous projects. Please share some tips (or secrets!) that can help.

  • Cannot Open New Projects Created in Premiere 8

My software is Premiere Elements 8
    My system is a Dell Studio 17, i7-720QM, 6MB Cache, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM.
I ran into a third problem using PE8:
    1.  After I open a New Project in the PE8 Welcome Screen, sometimes the work area refuses to pop up on my screen; no Monitor, no Timeline, no Task pane.  When I relaunch PE8 and try to open the New Project I just created I get a message "...cannot open projects created with Premiere Pro"
Has anyone experienced this?  Do I simply reload the software?  I recently downloaded the PE8.0.1 patch.
    Thanks for any assistance.

I too had the same issue - along with an inability to (re)open video projects.  I did a few things.
As long as I created the project using the DV - "Standard 48kHz" setting, it worked.  Selecting "Widescreen 48kHz" allowed me to save the project but I was unable to open it, receiving the error you are getting about needing to use Pro.
The second issue is an inability to open an existing project.  Premiere launches, a progress bar shows "loading....1%...100%" - then nothing happens.  The workspace is empty and all menu options are disabled.
First - install 8.01, and reboot!   The installer doesn't indicate that you need to.  I continued to have the same problems until I rebooted.
Second - upgraded the ATI drivers from the Dell website.  Apparently my 2-week old Dell XPS-16/i7 laptop came with drivers from 2009 - go figure.
To recap, 8.01 (+reboot) fixed the "need Pro to open" issue
Updating ATI driver from Dell website fixed the "can't open existing project" issue.
And while on the Dell website you'll notice lots of drivers that need updating.  I did them all.

  • Can i open a project created in FCPv4 in FCPv6.0.5 ?

I need to switch computers while working on the SAME project.
will i be able to open my project,
which i created in FCP version 4
on the new computer that has FCP version 6.0.5 ?
    Thanks for your help!

It may move a little slow and I'm not sure how well Motion would run if you were planning on using that. Definitely in the realm of possibility for light editing (ie not feature length projects or anything with a lot of special effects).
On the plus side, if you decide to get a faster system, you could get a desktop and when you buy FCS, Apple allows you to install in on one desktop and one laptop, so you wouldn't have to buy it twice and you could use the laptop for the lighter stuff when you're on the go, and then transfer the project to the desktop when you're at home. That was a really long sentence.

  • Yellowish filter when opening iMovie projects created by the iMovie 4 or 5

I open the old iMovie project created by version 4 (maybe 5), in iMovieHD. There is a warning telling me that "The project was saved with an older version of iMovie. Opening it in this version will cause it to be upgraded, which will make it unreadable by older versions. Are you sure you want to open it?" I click OK and open and the clips/timeline come up, BUT - in the main window the clips look (and play) as if covered by a yellow filter. The projects are fairly recent (2005), created with the same camera I am using now - there was no problem at all last year. The only thing that has changed is that I have upgraded to iLife 6. Could anyon please help/explain what's going on?
    Thank you very much!!!!!!

I had the same exact problem, only my "filter" color was purple! It was easily solved though.
This was the answer that worked for me...
"It was pointed out in another thread that this has something to do with the playback setting in iMovieHD.
    Go to Preferences->Playback
and change from the "Highest" setting, which seems to be set by default, to one of the others ("High" works for me). The purple cast goes away."
Please post back and let us know if this worked for you.

  • Is there any way to open a project created in v2 in v3?

As the title says.  I'm trying to open a project that looks like this in v2:
but when I open it in v3 it looks like this:
Any hints on what I can do to fix this?

    Hi Bob,
No problem, but let your supervisor know the latest version is a free upgrade if you're a CC customer, and it has some awesome new features.
Anyway, I couldn't find my original post on this, but here's the workaround for EA3:
Close EA3 if it is running, and make a copy of your composition folder for safety on your system
Go to your composition folder, and open your compositionName_edge.js file in a text editor
Do a search for the word "source" (sans-quotes) - you're looking for a line that looks like this: source:['83px','','',''],  note: (your pixel value will vary)
Delete that entire line. Search the rest of your document for any other similar lines that begin with "source", and do the same
    Save the file
    Re-open your composition in EA3
That should solve the problem, allowing the composition to load fully. For anyone else reading, there's no need for this workaround if you open the composition in Edge Animate CC 2014.
    hth,
    Joe

  • Unable to open a project created by another team member in my Captivate 4

I have installed Captivate 4 on two PCs. According to my license I am allowed to install on my home laptop and on my work PC.
I am using Version 4.0.1 Build 1658. I also have all the latest updates as of October 13, 2009.
I am able to develop and publish an instance that runs on my desktop or on the Internet. The problem is when I try to edit an instance on my WORK PC that was created on my HOME PC.
When I click on OPEN and the file name "SampleDemoCourse.cp", Captivate actually goes through the motions of READING PROJECT and the LOADING PROJECT and it displays these actions on the lower left corner of my screen. Then it tells me the PROJECT PATH showing the directory on my hard drive where the file is located.
But it never really opens in Captivate. I cannot do anything after that.
    Any ideas, please?
I have uninstalled and reinstalled software many times with help of Adobe Support. I have checked to make sure my preferences are identical.
    Thanks,

    Hi Drew
    Normally it's pretty simple.
    1. Copy the .CP file(s) from source computer to intermediate media. (Network server, USB drive, CD, Etc.)
    2. Copy .CP file(s) from intermediate media to destination PC.
    3. Open Captivate and open file(s) in new location on destination PC.
At no point should you ever consider leaving the .CP file on a network drive and opening Captivate and browsing to the file to make edits while it is in the network location. You always want to work locally.
Another thing to consider is that Captivate seems touchy with CP files. You will want to ensure that all PCs are using the same version of Captivate. This includes patches. I wouldn't want to save a .CP file from a patched version 4 and expect to open it without issues on an unpatched version 4.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Premiere Elements 9 crashes when I try to open a project

Premiere Elements 9 was installed on my laptop when I bought it. I have only just tried to use it for the first time this week. When I choose 'create a new project' it opens but there's only a blank screen - no way to start editing, drag video in, etc. When I try to re-open a project, it crashes - saying there has been an error and it has to close.
I have uninstalled and re-installed from the discs that came with the laptop but this problem continues to happen.
Any ideas what I can do to fix this?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm working on a Windows 7 laptop.
When I try to download the 9.0.1 update I get an error message: "There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later". It doesn't say what the problem is.
    1. Yes
    2. I've tried this and got the same blank grey screen as before (no work area) - tried to open a project/ create new and I got the error message: "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down." But then it doesn't shut down.
    3. I'm not sure what kind of video card - how do I find this out?
Unless you have other suggestions, given my replies above, I'll try deleting the folder you suggest next.
    Thanks

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Have you installed the 9.0.1 Update and are trying to work from it? I suspect not. To do that, you can use Help Menu/Update within the project or, if that is not possible, you can do the update with the program closed. Use the download link
Adobe - Premiere Elements : For Windows : Premiere Elements 9.0.1 update
    Then the usual
    1. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
    2. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and have you applied Run As Administrator to the desktop icon of the program?
    3. What video card/graphics card does your computer use? How many cards, 1 or 2? And, is the card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card or the web site of the manufacturer of the computer?
An important troubleshooting scheme is to delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    9.0
and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
After you determine that the video card/graphics card is up to date and the problems persist, the delete the BadDrivers.txt file.
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    9.0
and in the 9.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete. (After you close out of there and open a project, a new BadDrivers.txt file will be generated but the problem should be gone hopefully.)
Please review and consider the above and then we will decide what next as indicated.
    Thank you.

  • Can I Open RH5 project file in RH10?

I don't like registration of all kinds until I took an RH arrow in the knee. XDD
    Here's my scenario:
My colleague created a project in RH5 long time ago and now she's handing over the project to me.
I copied the whole robo source files folder to my local disk and tried to open it in RH10. Then error saying .cpd file might be corrupt so that RH cannot load the data from the database. I know .cpd file is the cache file for a RH project, right? It's created/overwritten every time you open the RH project. Then I figured, maybe I should delete the .cpd file(as it might be created in RH5 in her machine) before I open it in RH10?
Also, I've tried to open the same project file in RH5(I have RH5 and RH10 installed in the same OS:Win 7). It worked for the first time, with lots of errors of broken links and reference links but failed for the second time, right after I opened that project in RH10. (You might will want to doubt if RH5 is executable in Win 7, I thought it should be but it turned out it is, which is amazing...)
    So..here're the questions:
    1. Do RH5 and RH10 coexist in Win 7?  Some said they don't..
    2. Should I delete the .cpd file created in lower version of RH before I open the project created in RH of lower version(say, RH5) in RH of higher version(in this case, RH10)?
    3. Can RH10 open the project created in RH5? I know the project created in RH of lower version will be converted in some way when it's opened in RH of higher version. Anyone practiced this successfully?
    Thank you!

It proves that X5 can be opened. It does not prove it will work properly in all respects. Also webhelp will likely have issues with some browsers. In other words and to answer your question, both can be on the same machine but that does not mean both will work as designed.
Rh8 could be used with Windows 7 when Rh8 was released, except bits broke until it was patched so the chances of X5 are rather low.
MS Access is not needed on your machine as the CPD is a runtime database. There's no point messing with it, leave Rh to recreate it.

  • CS5 not opening CS4 project

This is the message that I get when I try to open a project created in PPro CS4 in CS5.
"This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview present file or codec could be associated wiht this sequence type."
It shows all of the media loading at the bottom and confoming of files but then send me back to the welcome screen after I close the message.
Any suggestions on why CS5 is not playing nice with my CS4 projects?

Sounds logical but I completely turned off the firewall, restarted the computer, and still no luck.
By the way, as a preemptive strike against the posts that will ask me about being an old computer or having a ton of weird codecs - the computer was just built, everything is very clean and CS4 runs like a charm.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Projects created in IDVD 5 now complains of missing files in IDVD 6

    Hi,
I just installed ILife 06. Now when i try to open dvd projects created in IDVD5 it now complains of missing files. It can no longer find photos for the slideshows i have created.

Have you run the new iPhoto? Did it "upgrade" your library when you opened it?
the iLife apps are linked, and it is best to open them in the following order:
iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and then iDVD.
and you might check this too:

  • Opening old project

I have recently upgraded to CS4 and have a problem opening a project created with Premiere Pro 1.5. I get the message "The project was saved from a previous version of Premiere Pro and must be converted". The project opens and all my clips are there but the original timeline is not displayed. How do I display the timeline.

    Hey Tony,
Did you check to see if the sequence was in the bin? I think that happened to me, didn't load the timeline when it opened but it was in the bin, just double-clicked it.

  • Will I be able to open a project from 1.0 into 3.0?

I'm thinking of upgrading but i'm in the middle of a large project. Will I be able to open a project created in 1.0 in 3.0 if I upgrade?

There's just too many differences between the two systems for the older version to know what the project information from the newer version means.

  • Can't create new project or open a project - hangs & crashes every time

I installed PRE8 last night. I can launch the app and get the welcome screen. When I click Create New Project, it initializes the application and opens the window/shell for the PRE8 app with the menu bar at the top, but never actually opens the new project. I can open the menus in the menu bar, but most of the options are grayed out. If I try to start a New Project from the File menu, nothing happens. When I close the application, I get the crash report dialog (crash data below). I am not using NVIDIA video card/drivers (ATI Radeon 1150). Machine is a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, AMD Athlon X2 running Vista home premium. I have done 2 full uninstalls and reinstalls of PRE8 and installed the update to 8.0.1, but I keep getting the same problem. I can never actually open a project, which makes this software pretty darn useless. Any suggestions?

    Some basics:
    Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.7 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
    Run Disk Cleanup.
    Run Defragmenter.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus real time scanning.
Use the GSpot Codec Information Utility to analyse the file and post screen image.

  • How can I open a project that has been created with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software, on my trial version of Premier Pro CC?

    Hi,
I'm working with a colleague who is using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software on his PC version of Premier Pro CC. I am using a mac and have a trial version of Premier Pro CC. When I try to open a project file that he has sent me I get an error message-
"Missing renderer: This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."
When I click OK and locate the files I get a message saying "File format not supported".
Can anyone tell me what to do so that we can share project files?
    Many thanks,
    Jessie

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?
