Opening a scanned document

I have Windows 7 Home Basic, and an HP deskjet 3-in-1 printer F2280. I have the latest Adobe Reader X1.
All have been working fine until this week.
Now I cannot open a pdf file which I have created by scanning on my printer, and this now applies to all documents that I have previously created and saved. I can however right click on any of these files and select print to get a hard copy, and I can also open the files with Adobe Photoshop.
Other pdf documents which I have downloaded from the internet are not affected and can still be opened in Adobe Reader as before.
I have tried running 'repair the program' but this has not made any difference. I have also ensured that the printer software is up to date.
I now do not know what to do - can anyone help please?

Hi there
Reader 11.0
When I double click on the pdf file that I want to open. the reader
opens but I get a blank, grey window.
I have tried opening the reader and then using menu: open>select file...
same result.

  • I can't open my scan documents in my pc HP

after I scan documents I can't open in my pc HP 110-220 I can see the document in my screen but the system doesn't open

What type of file is it, right click the document then Properties.  Look at the file type, what does it say?
As an example, if it was scanned as a .pdf document you must have Adobe Reader installed in your computer to open it.

  • I cannot open my scanned document

when it gets thry scanning the document is on my desktop as a .jpg, but will not open. it says the document is not supported. it was working last week, but no longer. why?
    thanks Joe

    Hi Joe,
Reader doesn't open files that are saved as .jpg or .bmp; it can only open files that are saved in .pdf format. But, I see that you have Adobe PDF Pack, so you can actually convert those JPEGs and BMPs to PDF format! Just log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com using your Adobe ID and password. Click Create PDF, then click Select Files to Convert to PDF, and  navigate to the folder with your scanned images. Select one and click Choose. Your image file will be converted a PDF file, which you can open in Reader.

  • How to change color of handwriting in a scanned document and make background transparent

I'm a newbie using Photoshop Elements 11 and trying--unsuccessfully so far--to change a document I've scanned so I can upload it to a custom fabric printing service. I've already scanned a handwritten recipe as a color .tif file (which looks black on white, because the original is black writing on a white background). I've also resized the image to 14" x 23". What I need help with is:
    1. I want to change the color of the handwriting from black to red (specifically, to hex code cd0303).
    2. I also want to add a 2"-wide solid color border in the same red around the 14" x 23" image of the recipe (so the finished image will be 18" x 27".
    3. I want to make the background of the recipe transparent rather than white and make sure that the background stays transparent when I upload the finished image to the printing service as a .png file so that only the red writing and border will be printed onto the fabric.
I'd very much appreciate directions for doing those things. For reasons I don't understand, when I've created a blank file and set the background color to Transparent, then tried to make the changes I want, somewhere along the way the background changes to black.
    Many thanks!

    Try this:
Open your scanned document, and be sure that there is good contrast. The native scan may need some help.
Duplicate the background layer, then shut off the visibility of the background layer by clicking on its eye icon. Work on background copy layer
Get the magic wand tool out of the toolbox, set tolerance to 32 (may have to experiment with this value), uncheck "contiguous".. Left click on a white background area. Hit delete on keyboard. Press CTRL+D to get rid of the marching ants.
Set your foreground color chip to cd0303
CTRL+left click on the layer thumbnail with the writing, then Edit>fill selection>foreground color
    Press CTRL+D
Go to Select>all, then Edit stroke(outline) selection. Position stroke inside, set width of stroke to suit
Delete the background layer, and save in file format which preserves transparency.

  • Need Help - Acrobat 9.4 won't open scanned documents

I have a computer in my office that will not open scanned documents in Acrobat 9.4. Acrobat opens but is just a grey screen.  Documents that were converted to PDF from Word/Excel/etc. will open just fine.
Adobe Reader 10X is also installed on the computer and will open scanned documents, but user needs to be able to go in and edit documents, so Reader is not enough for him.
    Any troubleshooting ideas greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Since scans are images you need to go to Edit >  Preferences > Page Display and put a checkmark in the box for "Show large images"  This should allow you to see the scans.

  • Scanned documents won't open in pages.

I have an HP Photosmart D110. I have tried scanning and saving to documents with tiff, jpeg and pdf but when I open pages the documents are greyed out and won't open. I am using Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I am new to Macs and am not tecnical, please help.

The HP scanners usually save to certain default folders which may not have read/write privileges.
Look in the scanner panel and you will see that you can choose to save to another location. Choose your documents folder or desktop.
But I think you are actually trying to open the scans from the Open dialog. Open is for Pages or other WP documents, not for images.
You import the scans by either dragging them into Pages or by going Menu > Insert > Choose…

I am trying to scan document that I will then attach in an email.  When I attach it it shows up as a picture within the email instead of an attachment an people can't open it.  Any help here?

What kind of Mac are you using, and what version of the operating system?
You should be able to select the document that you want to attach and then use the contextual menu (right click in some worlds) to compress the document, producing a .zip file. You can then attach that to the email and it won't appear as a picture within the email.
If I recall this correctly, the "compress" part in the contextual menu may have a different terminology.

I am unable to open scanned documents (with .jpg file extension) in my e-mail inbox, on the Mail app on my iPad. Please provide a clear answer. Thanks a lot.

Can you actually see that the attachment has a .jpg extension?  Some mail systems strip it off (I've seen AOL do that) which makes the attachment difficult to open.

  • How do you attach a scan to the end of an e mail?  when I try it always sends the opened scan document as the e mail rather than as an attached file!

I have a query.  When I try to send a scanned document as an attachment in mail the scanned document gets e mailed as an open document rather than as an attachment to the e mail.  Any suggestions?

Some possible strategies for dealing with this include:
    * zip the file (control-click the file, and select "compress") and send the zipped file.
The recipients email program should display this file as an attached file. But the recipient will have to unzip it at their end.
    * I've never tried it, but people say this can help: Attachment Tamer

  • Do you also crash Preview  when opening scanned document pdf file?

I recently crashed Mail when opening a message coming from my IAP with an attached pdf file. The cause is a crash of preview.app that I can repeat. Therefore the file (a scanned document) can be opened by Acrobat Reader. I found in some forum that AcrobatReader had a a similar problem a few months ago, now fixed. Do you know a work-around to force Mail not to use Preview? See below the report:

  • No permission to open or delete scanned document with HP OJ 4630

I've scanned things before with no problem, but today, I have a scanned document that I cannot open or delete.  I don't know who has 'permission', as the Security won't say.  I can't change it.  Do I have to keep this on the desktop forever?

Could it be the scan is still in progress so the file is locked?

  • Unable to open scanned documents

I cannot open scanned documents once they are saved to my computer.
I am using HP Officejet Pro 8600, scanning from the glass plectrum and the scanned documents automatically  appear on my Computer under the program PDF Complete Special Edition.

  • If I attach a scanned document to a mail, it's impossible for the persons receiving my mail to open the file

I'm a MacBook Pro user and scanning documents with an hp Officejet 7500A.
If I send a mail with an attached file, SCANNED document, the person receiving my mail will be totaly unable to open it.
If I send the very same mail, always with my Mac computer and attaching the very same scanned document but using my professional mailbox wich is NO MAC MAIL, things are working perfectly well.mail.
    Thanks for your help,
    Ph.

Try right clicking the file on your desktop, and compressing it, then send it to the intended recepient. Of course you will want to advise them to extract the document from the *.zip file afterwards. A ZIP file is sort of like a briefcase for other data, you put it inside and send that fully intact for the other person to open. Good luck, let me know if it fails.

    Kip
