Opening a .sites2 file without iWeb?

I'm running OSX 10.9 and I don't have an old iWeb version on here or an old iWeb '09/'11 disk to install (not even sure it would run).
I just realized in digging through my old files that I have an old website from a trip we took in '08 that I built with iWeb. It was a full chronicle of a month-long trip with all the details, stops, destinations... all the memories.
So, my question, any way I can open that .sites2 file and get at its content? I don't need the images, layout, design, I would just love the text from each of the blog entries that chronicled the trip.
thanks.

You can open the Domain.sites2 package by Command (right) - clicking on it and selecting Show Package Contents from the contextual menu.  You'll find the photos and videos used in the website.  That's about all you'll find that is useful.
However, if your site is up online you can get the same photos by dragging the files from the site to the Desktop.  The text from each page can be copied and pasted into the replacement page if you plan to rebuild the site (with a newer application than iWeb).

Flash CS6 can't open play SWF files without importing and destroying them, how can I get around this?
I'm just trying to preview an swf file in flash like I have with all previous versions.

What if my SWF loads external content from an online server?
Not only does the current flash player prohibit such activity, it doesn't even pop open an error anymore saying there was an error connecting to an online source.
Normally, I would simply drag the SWF into Flash and all connections would go through.  I could see traces, errors, and experience no issues.
Now I can't even do that.  So what then?  You have crippled a fundamental use of the program, but THANK GOD we have that deco brush that nobody asked for.
And for the record, the nature of my work benefits from not necessarily allowing the Flash Player to connect to online content.  The error it pops up?  That's simply another method of error checking that I require.  Updating the Flash Player options is not an option.
Why would you even remove this key feature from Flash anyways?  It's been there for years ... has the ratio of people importing SWFs (a rather useless gesture in an increasing OOP world) really outweighed the people using Flash as a testing environment that much?

Try turning off GPU support in your Photoshop's preferences performance section.  Also check that you have installed the latest device driver installed for your GT 970 adapter and that all CS6 updates are installed... Your CS6 should be version 13.0.1.3....

  • Iweb not opening domain.sites2 file

    Hi
One of the people I support is having a problem with iweb. She went and updated her site the other day. The next day, when she opened iweb to work on it some more, it didn't recognize her domain.sites2 file. It actually opened as if the site never existed. After I pulled the domain.sites2 icon to my desktop, I dragged it directly onto iweb. No good, is still opened up as if it were creating a new site. So, I opened up the sites icon so I could see everything in it, and all of the persons data is in there (pictures, forms, etc). When I copy the data out of that domain.sites2 folder and put it in another and rename it, it does the same thing (tries to open as if the data doesn't exist).
Anyway, what caused this? More importantly, how do I get it to work again? She may have a functional backup (I have to go onto our servers and take a look-the computers back up automatically), but if for some reason it overwrote a previous copy, this may be all I have to work with.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Often an interruption of some sort, iWeb crash, computer crash, while iWeb is writing to it's files in the domain package. The best solution is to have a current backup of the domain file. That can be had by using Time Machine (hourly backups) or use a 3rd party backup application like Synk Standard which can do incremental backup, i.e. copy only those recent new or changed files) on a more frequent basis.
There was a new posting today about damaged domain files and the OP narrowed it down to a file in the package. You can read about it here: CRASHED and LOST EVERYTHING due to Library/App Supp/iWeb/index.xml.gz

  • I have separate iWeb (sites2) files.  iWeb opens the same one.

I have several sites2 files ( customer1.sites2...customer2.sites2 ) and so on.  After upgrading to Lion, iWeb keeps opening the same one.  I cannot get it to open another one.  Any clues?

Your idea of using the multi file worked great. Thanks.
Mac - it just works ... except when it doesn't.
I have been trying to switch from Dreamweaver (too hard for my tastes, but nice power) to iWeb (simple - but lacks power).
Now that I am in mid-switch, I wonder what to do. If they are dropping iWeb, then I am dead-ending my work.
Apple seems committed to a path of targeting sales to amateurs and teenagers.
They are making lots of money, and I suppose they are riding the crest of the age wave - so they will continue to be successful - but they will not capture the business market until they get serious software. But they probably don't care.
I hate to say it, but I may be looking at Windows again.

  • Can't open my domain files with iweb??

I have a new Hard drive version 10.5.8. I have my old website files but iweb (3.0.3) will not open them. I've tried a few suggestions but nothing works. iweb just keeps prompting me to start a new site???

For opening your domain file or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
Use the iWeb Switch Domain application to open those various domain.sites files to see which one actually contains your web site. Once you've found the right domain file delete the others.

  • Cannot open the Domain file in iWeb, Mavericks

    Hello world of !
I just formatted the MacBook Pro, performing a clean instal of Mavericks. Having a HDD and a SSD into the machine, the Domain file of my iWeb sites was saved on the HDD while the OS and the apps are running on the SSD. The problem that I now have is that whenever I try to open the Domain file and get to my websites, the iWeb opens anew, with no website inside, inviting me to choose a template to create a new one.
Any hint as to how to get to my websites?
    Thank you all in advance!

Where exactly you want to open the file?
The most simple way  would be to upload the file under MIMES and provide the URL in the corresponding ITS service.

  • Can I open a raw file WITHOUT lightroom adjustments?

I often do quick Lightroom adjustments to my files before showing them to clients. Then, when they select their images, I go back and open the images in Photoshop for retouching.  I wish I could open them from Lightroom WITHOUT applying the adjustments I've made.  I don't want to undo the adjustments, but I want them to be applied to the file AFTER the PS edits are done, not before.  Am I missing something?

You can open your images in Photoshop without Lightroom adjustments.
Before opening it in Photoshop - in the Develop Module in the right bottom corner click on <Reset> and your image will be reset to the state as it is on the hard drive.
    WW
PS: Sorry, this is incomplete. <Reset> sets your image back to LR default settings or to your Develop Preset that was applied during import.
But the LR Develop Preset <General Zeroed> sets everything back and removes all settings completely.

  • Opening a website file in iWeb 08

    Hi,
I want to open a website file/folder created in an earlier version of iWeb into iWeb 08.
How to do this and also the folder containing all the website files is on my iDisk and not on my hard drives?

If you don't have the original domain.sites file on your computer then you can't. There is nothing you can do.
iWeb is not an html editor so it CANNOT import an already published site from your iDisk.
If you can get the original domain.sites file from User/Library/Application Support/iWeb, then you can open this with iWeb 08, but if not, then you are looking at re-building your site in iWeb 08. You can use your published site as a guide to copy and paste, but nothing more.
