Opening Ai files in Fireworks (preserving vectoring)

When I open my mock up (I made in Illustrator) in fireworks,
the vector doesn't seem to be preserved. For instance, when I zoom
in on a piece of text (or on a design I made with the pen tool) it
becomes pixely/clunky. Vector seems to have become disabled.
When transfering an AI product over to fireworks, is there
any way to preserve the vector format?

If FW CS4 retains FW's traditions, it would be because
Fireworks renders the vector as they would appear on screen. Since
FW is designed for Web graphics production, vectors are rendered to
screen resolution. You can't zoom in on an element and keep seeing
it with perfect resolution.

  • Can't import/open HTML files in Fireworks CS4

I'm trying to import/open HTML files into Fireworks CS4 to do some redesigning. I inherited the job of redoing my companies website and we believe the person who created our website created the site using Dreamweaver 8. Unfortunatley that person moved on to a new job across the country and we can't ask him exactly how he created our website.
When I try to open some of the HTML files in FW I get the message: "Could not open the file....Fireworks could not find an HTML table in this file". Next I tried creating a new, very simple HTML page in Dreamweaver CS4 that contains just a few lines of text and 1graphic (we just bought the CS4 web suite). Again, I get the same error.
Other files give me a slightly different error message when trying to open them in FW, "The HTML document contains one or more images with absolute web addresses for the source. Fireworks cannot handle these images. --click OK-- (next error message) Could not open the file. Fireworks has encountered a problem with the HTML in this table. Verify that the HTML is valid"... and then it closes and nothing loads into FW. Bummer.
I've searched on these forums and can't find any solutions to this problem although I found a few people experiencing the same problem.
Do I need to do something to the Dreamweaver created HTML's to get them to open in FW? Any help would be appreciated.

Fireworks is a graphics editor that can export code; it is not an HTML/code editor.
If you have exported HTML from Fireworks, you ought to be able to re-import that, but I would think most people who use Fireworks exported code would just modify their Fireworks document and re-export. (Fireworks' code is not robust and it is only intended for mockups and prototypes. Fireworks is not intended for developing and maintaining live Web sites; Dreamweaver is.)
If your developer used Dreamweaver, then I really don't expect that Fireworks would be able to import that, nor any code that isn't in exactly the format that it can export. If you know your developer used Fireworks, then you need to look for .png files. Fireworks uses an enhanced version of the PNG format for its native document format.
If you are making small adjustments to your site, then you might be better off working in Dreamweaver. If you're doing a site re-design, then Fireworks is an excellent tool for laying out your design and producing your graphics, but you will, at some point, need to move over to Dreamweaver for coding.

  • Import/Open SVG Files in Fireworks CS5!

    Hey,
I really need to import/open SVG files in Fireworks CS5. I have been searching the Web for days now, but I can't find anything. The reason for this is that I get thousands of files sent to me in SVG format that I needto incorporate into my designs made in Fireworks. I solve it today by opening the files in Illustrator, copy each one of them, paste in Fireworks... WTF!
So please tell me someone made this easy for me?
    Many thanks!

I also have this problem. I didnt exatly find a solution, however here's the way i learnt to use .svg without losing editability in Fireworks.
    1. Download Inkscape as suggested by Joyce Evans Erb. Here
    2. Open the SVG file you need to work with in Inkscape.
    3. Go to File > Save As and select .eps (Encapsulated PostScript)
    4. Open the saved .eps file in Fireworks.
Now you might get a bit of unnecessary space around the file but it should work out just fine.
Also, if you havn't already go check out thenounproject.com . It's a great resource for us Fireworks types.
As a final note, i'd just like to plead with Adobe to put a bit more effort into Fireworks. It's a great program that i feel is being dragged along with the suite. (Hope to see some really awesome stuff in Fireworks CS6.5 *wink* )

  • ¿why when I tried to open a file in Fireworks 8, a message unknown file appear?

Please help, i can´t open any file in fireworks 8. I tried with jpg an png files and don´tn work, please help

Since support for your camera was added in Camera Raw 8.3, there is no version of Camera Raw for your version of Photoshop that will enable you to open the NEF files from your camera. One alternative would be for you to download the DNG converter version 8.5, and use it to create digital negative copies of your NEF files. They will still have the raw image data in them, but they will be in a format that your version of Camera Raw can work with. Another alternative would be for you to add Lightroom to your workflow. You would still be able to send copies of your NEF files to Photoshop when needed. The other alternative would be for you to join the creative cloud an upgrade to Photoshop CC. There is a package that includes Photoshop and Lightroom for the monthly subscription price of $9.99 in the US. I think Photoshop CS6 can still be purchased separately as a standalone product. And there is a version of Camera Raw for that version of Photoshop that will enable you to open your NEF files.
While you are trying to decide which way you want to go, you might consider using the DNG converter as an interim solution. It's free, you'll still have your original NEF files, and you'll be able to start working with your raw image data today. Here is the link:

  • Can't open ai files in fireworks?

    Hello,
I'm working on a Mac with CS4, and just this afternoon,
Fireworks won't let me open illustrator files. Things were fine up
until then (except with the occasion crash).
Now, it gives me a "Could Not Complete your request. An Error
Occurred." message instead. I can open any other kind of file
(jpeg, png, etc.) but not illustrator files.
    Any theories?

Try opening the file in AI, copying it, and then pasting it
    into a new
    document in FW.

  • Opening CS5 files in Fireworks CS4

    Hi all,
I work at a web dev/design company, and we are very eager to upgrade to CS5. However, there are just two of us that use Fireworks extensively (and I mean, we both use it a LOT!). If we were to upgrade, we'd have to upgrade everyone, and this would cost us a bunch of $'s.
If we were to only upgrade 2 of our users from Fireworks CS4 to Fireworks CS5, would our colleagues be able to open CS5 files in FW CS4?
Has anyone had any experience with this?
    Thanks for any/all suggestions!

I just opened a small graphics file I created in FWCS4 in FWCS5 without any problems. It's possible that if your files use features that don't exist in CS4 you'll have problems opening them.

  • Opening illustrator cs3 file in Fireworks changes color, but not code

I created a vector graphic in Illustrator CS3, with RGB. I
then opened the file in Fireworks and everything looks fine because
it's still vector. But the color is not right. It's close, but much
lighter. The RGB values are exactly the same.
    Anyone have this problem before?
    thanks,
    Justin

Fireworks does not use color profiles, so the colors you see
in Fireworks will be what the majority of Web site visitors will
see (skipping, for the moment, the huge problem of monitor
variation). Only Safari displays images using the color profiles.
I recently read a moderately controversial blog post on
setting/disabling profiles in Photoshop (comments disabled at 200),
but many people appreciated the article here:
    Best
Practice Color Setup for Web Designers
So, while your experience is with Illustrator, it's probably
the same underlying cause. Illustrator is showing you the colors
with an ICC profile, even though they're in RGB. When you open the
image in Fireworks, you see the colors without a profile.
This is one reason I like using Fireworks. I have a better
feeling about what my visitors are going to see (again, setting
aside the huge problem of monitor variation).

  • DW won't open PNG file to edit in Fireworks

I have a complex Fireworks file inserted as part of my html page. I'm trying to edit and update it from Dreamweaver, but it will not open the file in Fireworks.
It's a png file that has been updated from an older version of Fireworks, but I've done a save-as and re-exported the slices and html, then re-inserted it into the page. It still will not open the file in Fireworks.
As a test, I created a new png file, exported it, inserted it into the html page, then tried to edit it in Fireworks. And that does allow me to edit, click done, and then the changes show up on the html page. So it's something with my original file, but I can't figure out what it might be.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Can you open images normally in Photoshop Elements?  I would recommend including this information as well as which verson of iPhoto and Mac OS you are using to the Photoshop Elements forum.  It might also possibly be a problem with iPhoto but the users in the Photoshop Elements forum should better be able to determine where the problem lies.

  • Fireworks will not open local files

I use a Web Page to have students navigate to either web
sites or local (c: drive) files for their classes. I cannot get
Fireworks to open the local files, but I can create hyperlinks in
Dreamweaver and they work fine. I am trying to create a popup menu!
    Hyperlink in Dreamweaver =
    file:///C|/mts/course/index_mts.html
Placed in Fireworks popup menu, will not open the file.
    Any thoughts?

Please note that Fireworks is an image/web graphic editing
application, while Dreamweaver is a HTML authoring application.
Fireworks cannot open HTML files, only Dreamweaver can open
html files. Fireworks only exports simple HTML-generated for
certain simple, basic pop-up menus. But it is not recommended,
though. Best if you create menus in HTML/CSS around Dreamweaver
    than Fireworks.

  • Illustrator files crash Fireworks

I just got started with Fireworks CS3, installed yesterday
for the first time. I'm trying to open Illustrator files but
Fireworks crashes every time. Installation went smoothly, I
unistalled and reinstalled just to be sure. But, no luck, I can't
open a single Illustrator file. I'm using Mac OS 10.4.9. Any
    suggestions would be helpful.

    Hi Mark,
That is what I thought about the nature of your problem you
encountered with. It looks like that you will do quite a project to
clean everything up on your hard drive and go easy with
installation of all other applications and then CS3 gradually.
I can imagine that you are totally not happy with the
problem. I probably would be totally ticked off when things gone
badly. Things happen at times. I had some strange problem on my
hard drive about two or three weeks ago on my Mac. It is very rare
to have this problem pretty much. So it is kind of my first time
having this problem with hard drive problem. So I did a complete
erase and clean of my hard drive on my laptop. This time looks
pretty neat. The thing is that I have to reinstall applications and
then reactivate some of those applications and all that. That is a
drag, but that is what is expected.
Hope everything works out nicely for you on your Mac this
time. Let us know how things are with CS3 installation and all
that. As for manually installing standalone applications of
Contribute CS3 and Fireworks CS3, you might want to call Adobe tech
support on which package (Design Premium CS3 package) or standalone
Fw CS and standalone Contribute CS3 installed in order to smooth
the whole CS3 applications working together and consolidate all of
these application and components working together.
I can't remember how or what steps that I did installed my
Design Premium CS3 and Fireworks CS3 standalone on my laptop and on
other Mac - MacPro. But I didn't had any problems after
installation of those two. But the only thing I recalled that I
took my time and patience to install one at a time, then reboot and
then install the other application, reboot. Then activate Design
Premium CS3 and then activate Fw CS3 standalone.
I usually do monthly backups on three computers... and do
weekly backups on those three computers as well. You never know
what to expect of those hard drives at times. Oh well. Life, I
    guess.
    Cheers, Brian

    Brian,
Thanks again for your thoughtful and informative guidance. To
answer you questions, I reinstalled three of four times. The first
time was after the level-one cleaning, recommended by Adobe, of the
beta software. That resulted in some very subtle, funky behavior,
particularly in Bridge. Finally, I decided to run the more radical
Unix script which was kind of scary considering the warnings
accompanying it. That worked like a charm for the Creative Suite
Design Premium. It now works flawlessly.
Then, I purchased Contribute and Fireworks. And here I am
with my Fireworks problem. Now, I must admit, on my second unistall
I did things improperly. I knew better but it was late and the
basic uninstall script that comes with the Suite DVD is very
erratic. It didn't uninstall a bunch of stuff, so I dragged them
into the trash. My bad. Things got worse and I then ran the beta
script and that did a very thorough job. So, I'll bet this
Fireworks thing is some remnant of all that.
I think you are correct. The way to do this is to start over
and clean everything related to CS3 out. That includes CS2 stuff
that's still floating around the hard drive. That seems easier than
recreating everything with a new account. In my case, a new account
isn't as drastic as wiping clean the hard drive. It just means
adding a user account and designating it as an administrator. That
isolates out the user preferences and user-specific files, which
solves the problem. It also means reconstructing ALL user
preferences and permissions for all files and programs.
Reinstalling the Creative Suite seems easier. I'll be very careful
to follow the instructions provided by Adobe. I think I'll start
early in the day with a fresh pot of coffee.
I think all this unistall, reinstall stuff was complicated by
the public betas. I agree that I'm not happy with the situation.
But, I did love using the beta software so I guess it's a tradeoff.
    Thanks again,
    Mark

  • Colour issues when opnenig JPG files ins Fireworks

    Hello.
I am having trouble when opening JPG files in Fireworks CS5. The colours are all messed up.
If I open the same fire with Photoshop or other viewers the file is fine but I can´t seem to fix this in Fireworks.
Here is a pic opened in FIreworks and WIndows Viewer:
If I copy and paste from Photoshop to Fireworks it goes well. Also if I open a TIFF in Fireworks it´s seen correctly.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thank you.

Fireworks isn't color managed, whereas Photoshop is. Depending on the color profile attached to the image, the difference in rendering could be minimal or very noticeable.

  • What are my options for opening EPS files in Elements 13? What is the best way to convert these to another type of vector file?

I "upgraded" from Photoshop Elements... uh... mad old... to Elements 13 when my work computer got "upgraded" to Win8. Now I can't open EPS files which is how I receive collateral from our ad agency. What other vector files will work, and how can I convert EPS to these? Please be gentle if this is a stupid question - I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm not an expert at design by any means. I'm just frustrated because this isn't quite the "dead" file type that Adobe thinks it is. What was the point of upgrading if I'm pretty much left in the lurch?

What's important to understand is that Elements is a 'pixel' editor, not a 'vector' editor. As such, it has very limited 'vector' capacity (fonts, shapes...) What you are missing from older versions is the ability to convert vector items to standard pixel image file. To be able to open and work on eps files, you'd need Adobe Illustrator, which seems overkill for your purpose.
    So, your options are:
    - to request your ad agency to supply pdf format images instead of eps ones. My guess is that eps is beeing largely superseded by pdf, but I am not sure...
    - Use external tools to convert from eps to jpeg; a Google search would return free softwares like Irfanview or web based conversion.
    - You might want to keep (or reinstall) older Elements versions just for that purpose.

still googling, looks like i need AI. rats.
i don't need this stuff vectorized for cutting out this time. i plan to export jpg's for poster printing. so if i can at least open the file with the vectors visible, i could still work with and save as a psd. but to get those vectors, i gotta have AI? bummer.
    thanks

  • "Vector mapped" layer in an open PS file?

A client has asked me to send a file with the type on a separate layer which he refers to as "vector mapped". I know that I can lay in an AI type layer and save the file as an open .PSD file, or lay it in as a vector smart object and send it as an open TIFF file (along with the original AI file), but the client is using CS2 and can't deal with VSOs. The way around it, of course, is via a layered AI file with a placed image, but what is he referring to with hte term "vector map"?

Mike, thanks for taking a look. I still have a problem with it. "the unflattened AI or PS file with live type" doesn't work for me in PS, as a .PSD file. The type always winds up rasterized. Does the term "Live type" mean something in particular? I can't use a vector SO because the client is using CS2. In the end, what worked (I think) is a  2-layer AI file with a placed image. I sent him 9 different versions, 4 PS, saved as .PSD files, and 5 AI versions, a couple of which worked. None of the PS files worked. Unless the term "Live type" actually refers to some accessible tool in the apps, I see no way to save a PS file with a copied-and pasted type layer that will remain a vector layer after the file is saved. What am I missing?
(Later) I figured out what I was missing. I was able to get Illustrator type into a .PSD file as a layer, leave it there, close the file with the layers unflattened, then reopen it and edit the still-vector type layer. It stayed in vector mode. I did it using two maneuvers no one on the forum has mentioned so far.
    Thanks for the help, guys.
