Opening all folders in a folder

In OS9 you could open and close all folders in a folder with key strokes. It's been years since I did it, now I have to do it in OS10.3.9 to show all files on disc's I'm creating. Sure could use a little help.

You mean using List view, do a Select All (Command-A) and then hit the right arrow ? Select All again if needed and right arrow again. Left arrow closes all the selected ones at once.
Or did you have another view in mind ?

  • Upgraded to Firefox 23 and now my yahoo bookmarks don't have the option to open all tabs in a folder. How can I do this.

The option to open all tabs in a folder is not available any more on my yahoo toolbar. On this computer and my home computer which I just upgraded to firefox 23 and that option disappeared. I need to open all tabs in a folder at one.

Hi ziccs, is the missing feature to open a group of bookmarks all at once in separate tabs?
I haven't explored the Yahoo! toolbar in detail, but it was just updated recently. I noticed the description "new user interface" on the versions page. You also can use that page to re-install the earlier version and see whether the missing function returns.

  • How to open all bookmarks in a folder

    Hello,
I've had a longstanding question regarding the behavior of bookmark folders and the Command/Ctrl"shortcut" that acts as if selecting Open All in Tabs.
Why does the menu open when I Command click on a bookmark folder from the bookmarks toolbar? It forces the user to "click out" to exit the menu to continue. This essentially negates the benefit of the Command click shortcut. If I have to click twice, I may as well open the bookmark folder normally and select Open All in Tabs.
I'm assuming that Command/Control click is intended to be a shortcut feature to open all the bookmarks contained within a folder on the toolbar. It seems like unwanted functionality to have that menu open. If someone is trying to use the "shortcut" they don't intend to make a selection from the menu and wouldn't need it to open.
Let me know how I need to proceed. I'm not sure if this is a really old bug, a feature request, or just something I'm missing. If you could point me in the direction of an add-on or configuration parameter that would allow me to change this on my own, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

I never noticed that glitch with {Ctrl + Click} on a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar before you mention it now. I have always used a Middle-click to open all the bookmarks in a folder, the downside is that it opens new tabs and doesn't overwrite the tab that is already open.

  • Can I set Finder to open all folders so I can see all files always

Is there a way to set Finder to open all files when I click on say "Documents" or "Music" or whichever? As it is set I have to click on every plus sign within a folder or folders themselves to see what is inside, and, for example, in Music, it means hundreds of folders where the individual songs reside.
    Thank you.
    Roxy

Actually, there is a way to do this on a folder by folder basis: for instance, if you have your home folder open and in list view, if you hold down the option key and click on the arrow in front of the Documents folder, it will open, and every single sub-folder and sub-sub-folder will also open. This produces a pretty unwieldy window, and I can never remember the key combo to get them to all close up again (I'm sure there is one.....), but it does work.
    Francine
PS--It seems simply clicking the arrow to close the Docs folder does sort it out so a normal click produces a non-opened state of the sub-folders.

  • How to Open All Folders At Once

Is there a way to open all the folders that my songs are in, on Windows XP, so that I can see what songs are in there? Or do I have to open them one at a time?
    Thanks for any help!

Is there a way to open all the folders that my songs
are in, on Windows XP, so that I can see what songs
are in there? Or do I have to open them one at a
    time?
    Thanks for any help!
How does this make sense? Sorry, but on my XP box I have over 1000 artists and 1700 albums, each in separate folders (organized by iTunes because I don't have time for such nonsense) - opening all of those folders would be quite a mess on the desktop!
If you want to see the actual files, select any ONE song and choose "Show in Windows Explorer". It will open the containing folder.
Part of the point of iTunes is to make folders and files irrelevant by using a database. You don't need to see or manipulate folder and files to add/remove/edit/play/organize songs, or to use the iPod.

  • How to open all subfolders within a folder

I have a rather large folder of photos with many subfolders and further subfolders. At least a couple hundred folders.
I would like to open them all so I can compare by name looking for duplicates and for size so I can delete the very small ones.
Can someone tell me how to open them all?
    Thanks

This is great! In the off chance anyone else is trying to do this, this is also useful if you have Papers and you want to switch to Mendeley. Papers keeps PDFs all organized by year and then author so the PDFs are all nested in subfolders. If you option-click the triangle next to the Papers folder, it will then show all the PDFs. Select All and then drag over the whole thing into Mendeley. I just imported my entire collection in under a minute. Glad I looked this up!

  • LR5.3 CC Catalog does not open all folders.

    Hi !
Last week I upgraded from LR4.3 to LR5.3CC on Windows 8, and since them I'm facing issues with the catalog.
I have about 80.000 pictures in one catalog, splitted in subfolders by date. If I click in the main folder (Photos), I can browse all pictures:
All works well until Feb 10, 2011.  When I click on the date, it gets highlighted and all works well.
But, when I click on any date following Feb 10, 2011, it does not highligh as expected (actually it becomes only a little bit brighter), and it does not open the folder for browsing, but the navigator shows the first picture in the folder. The picture counting for each folder is correct. When I add more pictures and more folders to the catalog the folders and countings are updated, but the problem remains in the new folder.
What have I tried so far.
    1) I inspected the folders looking for strange files - didn't find any.
    2) I recreated the whole catalog.
    3) I created another catalog for some of those non working folders, and it worked fine.
    4) I optimized the catalog.
    5) I rendered 1:1 previews.
    6) I rebooted LR and Windows.
It's very frustrating. Never had a problem with LR4.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ronald

Optimizing the catalogue was a good move.
I wonder if this is a variation of the bug where Lightroom fails to display long lists on Windows. Usually after about 1600 items, keywords for instance, any subsequent ones are hidden. So I'm thinking 11th February might be the 1601st.
What happens if you add a year folder and drag the date-folders under it? I'd just create one year initially, 2010, and then see if folders after 2012-02-11 behave normally.

  • Open all folders on computer in LR4

My LR is currently only showing the photo folder. I have forgotten how to make it show all the folders on my computer and the external hard drive. What is the command to toggle back and forward?
    Thanks
    Keith

Lightroom can't show all files on computer/hard-drive - you must be thinking of a different program.
It *can* show any file in supported file formats from supported cameras, but it *will* show only those explicitly imported into the catalog.

  • Folders are called "Folder"

In one site, DreamWeaver suddenly does not show folder and
file names. Instead, all folders are called "Folder" and files are
named by their weight in Kb. If I switch to another site, things
are ok, except in this one. I restarted the computer, recreated the
site cache, disabled cache, enabled cache, nothing seems to work.
Anyone the same problem and solved?

    Simple answer: no.
You're trying to do what many others attempt to do with the
    Templates
folder. If you change the name, you break all the internal
    workings of
    Dreamweaver related with that folder.
If you want to rely on Dreamweaver to look after file
    relationships,
you'll need to comply with Dreamweaver conventions.

  • Yosemite install, all folders missing with just folder names show, but can't open.

    Hi
I've just done a clean install for a relative to Yosemite.  It all went well, but I'v noticed all folders on all hard drives are missing.  Just the title of the folder is
showing, but I can't open them where the folder icon would be.
    Any help gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks
    Matt

Do you have a backup you could restore the older version from?
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X - Yosemite
    Revert Yosemite to Mavericks
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • Setting a default folder view for all folders in Windows 7

How do you set up a default folder view of "List" for ALL the folders in Windows 7 including the optical drive?
    Artoo

I just installed windows 7. Are you seriously telling me that i now have all folders with mp3s in them AUTOMAGICALLY (THANKS FOR THE HANDY HELPING HAND THERE MICROSOFT!!!) set to some designers whim of what an mp3 folder "SHOULD" look like?
Well i was going to write a big rant, and indeed did, but then i was doing some more research and it seems like i just made everyones day and solved the problem (partially). Or well THIS guy did:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16694/customize-the-five-windows-folder-templates/
After you’ve clicked OK, visit some of the other folders in your file system.  You should see that most have taken on these new settings.
What we’ve just done, in effect, is we have customized the General Items template.  This is one of five templates that Windows Explorer uses to display folder contents.  The five templates are called (in Windows 7):
    General Items
    Documents
    Pictures
    Music
    Videos
When a folder is opened, Windows Explorer examines the contents to see if it can automatically determine which folder template to use to display the folder contents.  If it is not obvious that the folder contents falls into any of the last four templates,
then Windows Explorer chooses the General Items template.  That’s why most of the folders in your file system are shown using the General Items
    template.
    Changing the Other Four Templates
If you want to adjust the other four templates, the process is very similar to what we’ve just done.  If you wanted to change the “Music” template, for example, the steps would be as follows:
Select a folder that contains music items
Apply the existing Music template to the folder (even if it doesn’t look like you want it to)
Customize the folder to your personal preferences
Apply the new template to all “Music” folders
A fifth step would be:  When you open a folder that contains music items but is not automatically displayed using the Music template, you manually select the Music template for that folder.
Anyways, sorry that explanation doesnt do it justice. I have spent waaay too much time trying to figure this out already. Also that link doesnt say how to 1) copy templates (are they file or registry based?, didnt do research) 2) if you can distable templates
or the automatic re-templating of folders.
THAT is what i want to know! as it is much more maintance then its actually worth...
but once i had set 5 default types to, the exact same thing... it now doesnt matter if it automagically switches it. SUCK IT MS AUTOTUNE!!!
Its bloody hard to frame this question too. What can you say about this? "folder changes to mp3" "customize folder types windows 7" "windows 7 folder changes to mp3" "dont automatically change folders to mp3" "how
to change mp3 details column for good" "automatically change column order win 7 mp3"
The search that actually solved it:
"do not apply default template to mp3 windows 7"
good luck, this worked for me!
EDIT: also i just noticed that neonr already answered this above. i just didnt read it carefully enough. anyways i guess i will leave this and mark his as answer.

  • Why does iPhone put photos into random folders like "965YOKDJ" in windows explorer? I want all photos in one folder, not separated in a seemingly random manner.

When I plug my iphone 5s into my windows computer and open it in windows explorer, all the photos are separated into folders like "965YOKDJ" and "823WGTMA". The photos don't seem to be separated in a logical way. I would rather them to all be in one folder or, if they are separated, at least have them separated in a logical way like date or something. I doubt, with it being an Apple product, there would be a setting I can change on the iPhone to change the way it labels photos and folders but if anyone knows a way to make this easier and more logical can you tell me? Also if any Apple employees happen to read this could you perhaps improve the way the iphone labels its photos?

Thats the way the files have been configured since the original iPhone so I don't think they are going to change it anytime soon (since it's been 7 years) but you can certainly put in some feedback on apple.com/feedback
I feel you pain somewhat on this one (at least back when I owned a PC).  The folders are not logical nor the naming scheme.  There is no setting you can change to change this as this is created by the operating system.  I would have to assume it is some sort of code.  I have noticed that when I do not take a picture for a long while, a new folder is formed, but again, I'm not sure of the criteria on how the iOS knows when to make a new folder inside the DCIM, but I have also seen with with some digital cameras that are not phones

  • Preview opening all files in folder

When browsing to open a file in Preview through File>Open File... dialogs, Preview is opening all of the files within a folder (rather than opening the folder's directory) after a double-click on the folder.
    Am I missing something?

Double-click on folders in open dialogue does not open the entire folder contents in most applications! (I just tested a couple standard programs to confirm: Safari, TextEdit.) It is an annoying and unnecessary attribute which seems only applicable in Preview.
The feature of Preview where double-clicking a folder in the open dialogue causes Preview to open the entire folder contents is the bane of my existence as a Mac OS user. (And I do use other operating system, my Mac triple boots.) This behavior is not only inconsistent (and generally confirms that Mac OS X is perpetually confused about what type of mouse actions cause what actions in different areas), but a horrible catastrophe when, at least once a day, I inadvertently double-click a folder (in this manner) containing many files Preview associates with itself, where the only easy solution is to Force Quit. Don't believe me? When Preview starts trying to open 200 post-script files, which it must first convert to pdf, and the Cancel button does not respond, what should you do? Even if you wait for it to open all the files, in the case where conversion to pdf is involved, each window I close asks me if I wish to save!
All the complaints aside, is there a way I can disable this gregariously foolish and mis-sighted feature? If there is not a way to disable this feature at present, I'll just hope that a developer is reading this, since this is my only recourse in closed-source software, except to find new software.
And while I'm at it, may I request that Preview have the added feature to directly view post-scripts?

  • How to open all of  your favourite sites inside a folder in Safari

Hi! I didn't see anybody asking something like this... I have a folder in Favorites menu, and I want to open that submenu and click over "Open all in tabs" (or however it is in english :$). I was trying before posting, but I can't access to folders in that menu. Any help?

I'm not sure to perfectly understand what you are asking for. Let's suppose first that your “Favorites” folder is in the “Bookmarks” menu. Then the following script should do the job:
    tell application "Safari" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
click menu item -1 of menu 1 of menu item "Favorites" of menu 1 of menu bar item "BookMarks" of menu bar 1
    end tell
On the other hand, if your “Favorites” folder is in the Bookmarks Bar, then the following script should do the job:
    tell application "Safari" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
click menu item -1 of menu 1 of menu item "Favorites" of menu 1 of menu item "Bookmarks bar" of menu 1 of menu bar item "BookMarks" of menu bar 1
    end tell
    Hope this might help.
