Opening an image from LR 2 in CS5 results in an image 2-3 stops lighter

When I open an image from Lr2 into CS5 or CS3 the image is 2-3 stops lighter than what it was in Lightroom. My color settings for the working space and the  image profile are ProPhoto in both LR and PS. Does any one have an idea of what is causing this?
Thank you

Take a look at this FAQ regarding associations and Bridge, it may help with Lightroom also.

How do I fix this problem? Can't open raw files from my D800E in CS5.

You could try Help > Update, but that was a flakey process in CS5 times.
It's better to download and instally manually.

  • Cannot open CR2 files from T5i in Photoshop CS5.5

I have talked with Apple. These files can be brought in to iphoto and then exported. This is not what I want to do. I want to open in Camera Raw. Is there a workaround with a converter for CS5.5? I see there is Camera Raw 8.1 available. From what I have read, it is only for CS6 or CC - forcing me to upgrade? Then, according to some posts, the Camera Raw update 8.1 is buggy and does not work as well as previous versions. Can somebody shed some light on this for me? I really don't want to re-iinstall, uninstall, flush cache, look for fixes, etc, etc.
Is there a converter or plugin that works with CS5.5? my original question.
    thank you

Your Canon T5i requires ACR 7.4 which is only available for CS6
You can download the latest version of DNG - Digital Negative Converter 8.1 which can convert files from newer cameras to DNGs that can then be opened in PS CS5.5
Make sure you get the DNG converter 8.1 NOT the ACR 8.1
This is a stand alone application, so you need to start it and then point it to a FOLDER that contains your files.
It works on folders. It does not convert individual files.

  • Photoshop CS5 64-bit crashes when opening an image; 32-bit works fine

This is a bit of a tricky problem, but if I start up Adobe Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it runs alright. But the second I choose an image and open it, I get "Photoshop has stopped working..." and Windows tries to find a solution.
However, the 32-bit version of PS CS5 works perfectly.
On my Mac Mini, however, which ONLY HAS Photoshop 64-bit (Creative Suite 5, Snow Leopard, latest updates), images open and edit fine.
On my PC, I also had this same exact problem with the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS4.
I read in a few forums that it might be a corrupt font, etc., but I have no idea why a corrupt font would be affecting how Photoshop 64-bit opens an image, especially if I don't even get a chance to edit the image or anything. The images I've been trying to update are JPEGs.
I have all of the updates installed on my PC regarding CS5. It's completely updated. I am really stuck. I'd like to be able to take advantage of the 64-bit technology and put that version of Photoshop to use, but I can't.
Thanks in advance. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

  • How do I open raw files from my Canon 6D in Photoshop CS5.1?

Just tried to open raw files from my Canon 6D in Photoshop CS5.1. An error message appeared: "
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information." Is there a simple solution?

You cannot, nor will you ever be able to open your Canon raw files directly in CS5.1.  Your camera model requires at least ACR 7.3 which only works with CS6, or Lightroom 4.3.  There will be no further updates for CS 5.1 ever.
Your choices are (1) to upgrade to CS6, or (2) to download the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, currently 7.4, and convert your Canon raw files to raw DNG files that you can then open in your CS5.1.
You should also know that the rendering in ACR 7.4 is far superior tou the raw conversion in ACR 6.x, so you would be leaving a lot of image quality on the table if you go the (free) DNG Conversion route.

  • CS5 won't open RAF files from FinePix HS10 & Camera Raw 6.3- Is there something I'm missing??

    Ok-
I've bought CS5 Extended and then updated it (including the Camera Raw 6.3 update).
I am using a MacBook Pro (and an iMac also).
When I try to open the RAF file I get the message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." Yet the release notes for Camer Raw say that it will open FinePix HS10 files...
So I then decided to try a manual install of Camera Raw- I get the same message.
I have checked with other HS10 users and their PS does open them.
Is there something obvious that I am missing- or is there a problem with the camera raw or the photoshop cs5??
    Hope someone can help!!

Actually, that's wrong. Camera Raw 6.3 WILL run as a 64-bit plug-in when hosted by Photoshop CS5 if CS5 is running as a 64-bit app. It'll run as a 32-bit plug-in when hosted by Bridge or Photoshop CS5 set to run as 32-bit.
So, there's something else going on here....
How are you trying to open the raw files? From within Bridge or the Finder? How did you update Camera Raw to version 6.3? From the updater? Is ACR 6.3 in the correct install location? main Library (not the User but root), Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS5/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin
Can you open raw images from within Bridge? Have you tried to view raw files with Bridge before you updated Camera Raw? Have you trashed the cache foe the folder? In Bridge under Tools/Cache/Purge Cache

  • Opening/Dragging Images from Desktop into Photoshop CS4

I'm trying to import/drag/open a png image file from finder, my desktop, or anywhere on my hard drive into an existing photoshop document.  Unfortunately, the image does not drop into the existing document; it just bounces off.  No new layer is created.  When I try to import the photo manually from File-->Open, the image is opened in a new document instead of the existing one.
This only occurs for images saved on my hard drive.  Any image pulled from a web browser and dragged/dropped into the document creates a layer.  I'm running Snow Leopard.
I've installed the latest software updates to Snow Leopard and installed the latest CS4 patch, version 11.0.2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Alex Doan

That's because when you "drag" from the web browser, you are performing a copy-and-paste from one application to another one. The Finder is not involved.  As I said earlier, "The Finder knows nothing about dragging Photoshop layers."
My original post was poorly written.  Please ignore my digression on file-->open, which loads the image into a new layer in a new document, which it has always done and like you said, is normal behavior.
I was emphasizing that I can't find a way to directly insert a photo from the OS (Snow Leopard) running CS4 into an existing document in one step.  The directory path of the file on the OS is meaningless in regard to this behavior.
Tai Lao wrote:That is perfectly normal, expected behavior. The Finder is not involved.  As I said earlier, "Are you suggesting it used to behave any differently for you earlier? ??? !!
I am running CS5 on Snow Leopard on another computer.  Dragging and dropping a picture located anywhere on the OS into an existing document works flawlessly, and loads the image into a new layer within the open document.
You've lost the script by focusing on the finder.  The file path of the image, whatever it is:
    /Users/alex/Desktop/image.png
    /Users/alex/Documents/image.png
    /Users/alex/Pictures/image.png
    should be meaningless.
Dragging and dropping an image from OS X to Photoshop is the rule and this failure the exception.
There is something I'm not doing or a misconfiguration causing this.

  • Photoshop CS5 unable to open for edits from Lightroom 3

Have been experiencing numerous issue with the new LR and Photoshop not playing nice with each other on my Mac Pro w/10.6. Photoshop CS5 is will open in 1 attempt out of 8, and won't open from LR for editing purposes (it did once). Have been using in 32 bit mode to accommodate NIK and Topaz filters. I have reinstalled three times so far. Anyone got any ideas?

Try deleting the prefs folder for Photoshop. Mine was doing something like this where it would not open the image inside
of CS5 when you right click on the image and try an "open with". But it would work from the menu, most of the time. The cost is having to recreate custom settings inside Photoshop but since my CS5 was a new install as was LR3, it did not matter to me. It did require a reboot for the new preference file to fully take effect.
    From Adobe's own workaround
    5. Re-create the Photoshop preferences files.
Re-create the Photoshop preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
Note: Re-creating the Photoshop preferences file restores settings to their defaults.
To re-create the Photoshop preferences file:
    Quit Photoshop.
    Rename the Users\[username]\Library\Preferences\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp folder to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.old.
Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file.
If the problem continues, then the Photoshop preferences file isn't the cause. To restore custom settings, quit Photoshop, then delete the new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file and restore the original name of the previous Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp

  • My CS5 suite won't open my images.

    Hi everyone:
I could really use your help. I'm against a deadline to prepare for a class and I just came across a bug in my CS5 suite. None of the programs will open my images. Do I have to re-install the software? I already updated the patch. Thanks so much for your input. -KS

    What Mr.Cox said …
    Additionally:
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

  • Bridge CS5 - setting to open selected images in ACR automatically?

My CS3 Bridge opens all images (when I click on the thumbnail) in ACR, even jpgs.  How do I make this happen in CS5 Bridge ?
I can open in ACR by going to "file > open", but is there a way to set it automatically ?  Sorry if there is an obvious answer, but I'm
missing it if there is.  I just installed CS5 today.
    Thanks... carolyn

How do I make this happen in CS5 Bridge ?
I can open in ACR by going to "file > open", but is there a way to set it
    automatically ?
You can set this in the preferences. By default it is set to open only jpeg
and tiff with settings (and that is really the only setting I want because I
don't want to open ACR every time I open a jpeg or tiff file... )
Under the menu Bridge you have two preferences, first Camera Raw and then
    Preferences (those are for Bridge)
In the Camera Preferences you have at the bottom the ability to choose from
3 options to open jpeg and tiff in ACR. Not at all, only those with ACR
    Settings and all the time.
    Also consider this workflow:
Leave the default settings to open only files with settings and in Bridge
Content panel select one or more files you want to alter in ACR. With right
mouse click choose 'open in Camera Raw' from the sub menu.
If you already have altered files and want to fine tune them just double
click to open them in ACR (those have a little icon with sliders top right
    of the thumbnail)
You can also use the filter panel (Camera Raw - custom settings) to show
    only the files with settings.
    Just another workflow

  • Why do I loose lens perspective adjustments made in Lightroom when I open the image in CS5

    Question as title above

Probably because you are opening the image into CS5 via a version of Adobe Camera Raw which does not provide the same support or use all the same parameters and settings, as your Lightroom does. For example, if you have used Upright, that is something that only the later ACR versions understand, and in order to use those versions, you would need a newer version of Photoshop.
In such cases, you are better off having LR render the conversion and LR settings into a file (TIFF or PSD) that is already saved to disk in that format, before PS sees it.
That way, PS has no need to involve your ACR at all, or to lay itself open to potential incompatibilities there. It only has to understand the completely standard pixel data inside the PSD / TIFF.
You will at some point have been given a LR warning dialog about ACR version incompatibility, offering the choices "Render in LR" / "Open anyway". If you have clicked "always do this" after selecting "open anyway", you will no longer be getting this warning. You can re-instate it using LR Settings / "Reset all Warning Dialogs". Then by giving the response "Render in LR" instead, you will get a full and complete implementation of all of your LR adjustments, into Photoshop, from the standard Edit in PS feature.
That arrives in PS as an already-saved and already-named file; you just need to Save (not Save As) when you are finished there.
Another approach, is to set up an additional named external editing "preset" in the LR Settings / External Editing tab, referring to your Photoshop program file, with your choice of file type, bit depth, colourspace (which can vary from the ones configured for your main "Edit in PS" option). This name becomes a new entry in the "Edit In..." menu. Using that always carries out a "Render in LR" procedure, regardless of the state of the general warning dialog mentioned above.
    regards, RP
