Opening an old iWeb file

How do I open an iWeb file I created three years ago?
it's on an external drive. My iWeb menu doesn't give me an open file option.

If it's a Domain package, double-click it.

  • Pages 08 won't open my old pages file

I just upgraded to Pages 08 and when I try to open the file I was working on yesterday, with the previous version of pages, it says "The document...couldn't be opened". How can I open the old pages file with the new version?

It may be useful to trash the preferences file:
    <bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
But I'm afraid that the document is corrupted.
Control click its icon then select the "Show package's contents" in the contextual menu.
    The standard contents is:
    Contents
    QuickLook
    index.xml.gz
The described message is displayed when there is no "index.xml.gz" (or "index.xml") file.
It is also displayed when the "index.xml.gz" (or "index.xml") is badly formed.
The index may be dropped when the documents where stored on an iDisk.

  • Need help opening really old FreeHand files

I have some very old FreeHand files, I'm not sure what
version but probably around v.5 or so. I have all the source files
and fonts and I'd like to reconstruct FreeHand files in version 10
or even 9 if possible. Problem is I can't open the old FreeHand
files through the menu options or by dragging the files onto the
    app icons.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I downloaded FreeHand BNDL
Resources from FreeHandSource.com a while back but they didn't seem
to do anything. Any help is appreciated.

Are you on a Mac? If your version of Freehand can open the
    version the
file was saved as you can open the file by dragging it to the
application icon while holding down the option and apple
    keys.

  • How do I open an old psd. file?

I'm trying to open a 10 year old psd. file with Photoshop CS2 and it tells me it is not a Photoshop file. What can I do to open it???

It's most likely corrupted, damaged perhaps irreparably.  A lot can happen to a hard drive, CD or DVD in ten years, and thus to a file.
Can you open it with any other application, such as Illustrator, Preview, Paint, etc.?  You may get lucky and be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG thumbnail preview.
If there are no privacy concerns, you could upload the file to your favorite FTP service, or to Dropbox or your favorite free server, such as yousendit.com, and send the link to one of us who can try opening it for you.
That way you can know for sure whether the file is toast.
That's why backups are so important…

  • Import previous iweb site from the internet? No old iweb files

My mac crashed and I lost all the information I had stored in it, including the iweb files of the blog I created using Iweb. Is there a way to import my iweb blog into a new Iweb in the mac I purchased? The iweb site I created is still up, so I am wondering if I can import the entries from my old iweb blog into my new mac/iweb using RSS or some other mechanism to capture the text and pictures in my old iweb blog and transfer them to my new mac. I also use idisk, so when I log in to mobile me I see links to my old iweb blog under if I click on Idisk and then go to "site". Any ideas about how I can import my old iweb blog from the internet?
The iweb version I have in my new mac is Iweb 3.0.3 (501)

Jorge ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. Apple says:
"iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.” (Source)

  • Can Logic Pro 9 open very old Logic files?

    Hi,
I have Logic Express 9 but can not open my quite old Logic files. I don't have my old logic version anymore and that is very annoying.
I get the error message that I have to open the file with Logic 7.
Could it be that the pro version is able to open these files?
    Thank you for your answers!

    Hi Pancenter,
I'm in the same trouble as many, trying to open and convert a .lso (not that old, it's from Sept 2006...) and I don't get a hand on a previous Logic (before 7,2). I run Logic 9, and it won't open this as you know.
Would you help me converting it ?!
    Thanks very much in advance,
    Best

  • Will Logic open very old LSO files?

I'm looking to do sequencing again after years away from doing it.
I have a whole load of .lso files from using a very old version of Logic - when it used to be Micro Logic - on PC.
I desperately want to be able to open up this old files if I get an iMac with a version of Logic.
Question is, will the more recent Logic Pro 8 open legacy formats like my old LSO files, or is it likely to be unable to read them?

You can open files from version Logic 5 onwards. Here is a thread about it:

  • I cannot open the old numbers file on my new ipad today

Today i cannot open the old file, but i can create and open the new file. I try to shut down the ipad and reopen it, but it is the same. What should i do?

You will find that it is the size of the photos which are the problem. Give it time - let the wheel churn!
    Other considerations -
Try sending her some to see what happens.
Get you wife to send a single photo to see what happens!
Finally, try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • Visio 2013 opens my old VSD files fine - but they are blank and do not show content

    Hello,
I have downloaded a trial of Visio Pro 2013.  I opened an existing VSD file and when I open it, it is blank.  No error message or anything.  Shows it open but it's a blank screen.
It opens fine in previous version but blank in 2013.  Is there some default or layer that needs to be turned on?  Something that needs to be enabled?  Why can't I see the contents?
    Regards,
    Elizabeth

    Hi,
Visio 2013 has a dramatically different file format.
Method 1. Open the VSD file in Visio 2013 ,it’ll display in Compatibility Mode and use Compatibility checker to see if the file is normal. And I recommend you convert the VSD file to VSDX to test.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio-help/compatibility-between-different-versions-of-visio-HA102749766.aspx
Method 2. There is a setting in Visio 2013 in File > Options > Trust Centre > File Block Settings. Don’t tick “Visio 2003-2010 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils”.
Method 3. Open Visio 2013 in safe mode, run visio.exe /safe. If it can open normally, disable some add-ins from File > Option >Add- Ins.
    Method 4. Clean Temp folder.
The temporary copy of the drawing file is named ~$$FileName.~vsd.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826418
Method 5. Repair Visio 2013 from Control Panel > Program and Features.

  • Opening Old iWeb File

I created a web site using iWeb, several hard drives ago. The site is still posted to web.mac.com and the files are saved to my iDisk. I am now trying to edit the existing site using iWeb. I moved the files over from iDisk to Library>Application Support>iWeb, but I'm unable to open the files in the application. Please help....is it possible for me to edit this site?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the discussions.
    BEGirl wrote:

Not if you no longer have the iWeb Domain file — only that file can be opened in iWeb, not the published files. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
By the way, for searching purposes it may be useful to know that an iWeb '09 Domain file is called "Domain.sites2" — although the “.sites2” extension is usually invisible.
If you don't have a backup of your Domain file (e.g. via Time Machine), paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
P.S. Your +Public Profile+ indicates you're using Mac OS X (10.4.11), but iWeb '09 requires 10.5.6 or later. So it's not clear whether you are using an earlier version of iWeb or need to update your +Public Profile+.

  • IWeb on macbook pro with mavericks cannot import old iWeb files from time machine back up

Hi! The apple store completely wiped my macbook and installed mavericks. I made a time machine back up before bringing it in to be completely wiped. Computer had bad software so they recommended me to handpick items and bring them over to new operating system without completly putting the entire time machine back up on it.
So I did but my only concern is Iweb. Now I got Iweb back installed in mavericks I cannot seem to import any files from my back up to my application in my renewed computer with mavericks. I searched for .domains, sites and sites2 but I cannot extract anything and I still have some old websites stored with Iweb and use the application quite a bit...
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks a million....

    Not sure what you mean by extract but this might help;
If you're running Lion or later the Home/Library folder is invisible and that's where the domian files are located.  That folder will be invisible in the TM backups also.  Therefore  you can extract Domain files one at a time out of the TM backups for import into iPhoto.  You would do it as follows:
1 - download and run Find Any File to search for a file named ".site".
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
2 - the search can take a while due to the structure of the TM backups.
3 - select the backup from which you want to recover the Domain file.
4 - drag the file from the search results window to the Desktop.
If you recover more than one Domain file be sure to rename them after dragging to the Desktop so that you don't overwrite one with the next.
5 - you can put the Domain file(s) in your Home/LIbrary/Application Support/iWeb folder but will have to make the library visible as follows:
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • I can't open an old Domain file

About two years ago I made a website for my dad. www.larrylewisphotography.com. Well I have finally set up an etsy store to sell his photographs and I need to get back in and link the "order online" tab with the new domain for his etsy store. I have since purchased a new computer and have even upgraded HDD's over the past two years. I have saved the original Domain file which holds all the info for the website. When I tried to open it today with iWeb all it does is opens up a new templte for me!
I really don't want to have to redo everything on the webiste! When I checked in the package contents of the domain file everything is still there. iWeb just won't open it.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Once you get the library visible remove the new domain file from the iWeb folder and put your original file there.  Then open your domain file in Lion with the following script that Cyclosaurus has provided us with.  You can compile it into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

  • How can I open an old Flash file?

A tech person and I created a show in Flash in 2004 called Black on Black / 13; I'm not sure which version of Flash we used. It was put up in the Gallery of the website of a group I headed called The Lark Ascending, and sometime between then and now it disappeared off that website. I have about half a dozen Flash files of the show, but they will not play in the current Flash player or open in the current version of Flash, both of which I own.
I have the original jpegs and music and intend to recreate this work in another program and post it on Vimeo, but it would be very helpful and time-saving if I could use the original show as a reference as it is a highly complex work, and without the reference, it will take me a VERY long time to re-create it.
Is there any way to get one of those old files to play?  I have older versions of Flash and probably the player from previous Creative Suites?  Should I reinstall them and try them?  Is it a lost cause?
Thanks for whatever, including the awful truth,
    Karla

It sounds important to you, so you should try a few things.
You mention the year 2004; that was when Flash Player 7 was around.  Try downloading Flash Player 7 from the archive page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
Make sure to uninstall the current version first with the uninstaller linked on that page.
