Opening any image in Photoshop desaturates and darkens it

Hello!
For approx the last 2 months whilst using photoshop CS5 (which I have been since purchasing in Dec 11 without issues), I'll process and images as a TIFF or high res JPEG with an Adobe RGB 1998 colour profile in Lightroom 3 or Capture Pro 7, then open in Photoshop with a working space and proof preview space of Adobe RGB 1998 and the image appears darker. I can correct it by adding a saturation layer, (+28 sat) a curves layer (+ 10% brightness) and a contrast layer (-15 contrast). I then save the image and open it again in bridge or lightroom an, whether I flattened it or not, the image then opens in all other programs with the same issues that photoshop gave it, i.e. darker, more contrasty and less saturation. My workaround has been to open all in bridge, then open in photoshop from here for all my retouch work, then open in lightroom and fix the colour/curves/sat problems. Not an ideal work around and incredibly time consuming! Help!!
This of course also affects my images when I open the high res through bridge as processed through Capture or Lightroom then use Bridge Image Processor to export all as low res adobe 1998 - they all come out darker etc.
I'm running the programs on a Macbook Pro 2009 model, vs 10.8.4, and my screen is calibrated regularly.
Thanks,
Jess

Sounds like you did not use Adobe RGB as the target spec for your monitor calibration, but instead a custom RGB setup based on a 6500k whitepoint or something like that. Could also be a bad profile. In any case, before spending endless hours trying to chase phantoms, it would be best to reset your monitor and color settings to factory default, then create a new calibration from scratch.

I have just purchased Acer Aspire R7 (2nd Genre). I have installed Photoshop CS6 as trial. Now when I open any image or drag any image in Photoshop I get this error in the taskbar "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". After that Photoshop doesnt respont and I have to force close it from task manager.
Can anyone guide me how to solve this issue?

Well, what more do you need to know? Update your graphics drivers and configure them suitably.

  • Opening an image in Photoshop CC, and select pixels with any method, the image starts to blink

The entire image is what is blinking, while the photoshop tools remain on.

I actually figured out that just changing the resolution of the screen fixed the problem.  The screen resolution had to be different from what it was.  Both lowering and raising it fixed the problem.  Strange.

  • Can't open any image in CC after crash

After a pc crash I am not any more able to open any image in Photoshop cc,  I can select an image, press load but nothing happens.
I did an uninstall and reinstall, deleted all folders in AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC, deactivated OpenCL, still no luck.
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Try resetting preferences.  Start PS and immediately hold down ctrl alt shift keys.  If fast enough you will get a reset window.  File not affected by reinstall.

  • Have photoshop cs5 installed on desktop..got new Canon rebel T5i camera...cannot open RAW images...updated and installed plug-in...still now working.  Need help, please.

I have photoshop cs5 installed on desktop...got new Canon rebel T5i camera...cannot open RAW images...updated and installed plug-in...still not working...help please.

In any event, that camera was first supported by ACR version 7.4 which needs at least CS6 to run.  Naturally, all later versions support it too.
Your choice is either to upgrade your Photoshop, or to look for, download, install, launch and run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 on each folder containing your raw Canon files to convert them first to raw DNGs that you can open in CS5.
In no case does an Adobe application belong "on your desktop".  The default install location should always be respected and left alone.

  • I cannot open any photo in Photoshop CC 2014 after upgrade the application and drivers of video-card.

Since I have made an upgrade of Photoshop CC 2014 I got a lot of problems.
At first, I could not open any pictures in Photoshop. It works only if I disable "Use Graphic processor". I installed a new driver for my video-card, but it did not help. I use AMD FirePro V4800 for 10-bit colour.
I had to return the system to the restore point (before the upgrade), then it worked somehow, but not stable. ACR from time to time had a blue screen with a white cross.
Now I tried to install drivers for my video-card again, but it resulted in the same issue: Photoshop cannot open any photo. (Other converters and editors and also a new Lightroom work well).
I use Win7x64, i7 2600, 16 Gb RAM, two SSD's, AMD FirePro V4800. I have never had any problems before the upgrade. And I do not want to reinstall Photoshop because I would have to reinstall a lot of plug-ins, I have already lost a whole day.

    Glad it's not just me!
Interestingly, when I spoke with Apple, I tried it in a new user account and the problem went away. Apple said to speak to Adobe which I have done and after deleting settings/prefs again the problem remained. Adobe say as it's fine in a new account then it's an Apple issue not Adobe.
I did find a workaround for now though, when using file - open, set it to list view instead of column view - this fixed my problem but sadly I'm used to working in column view so it's not ideal!
I also got the same error message when trying to replace a set of brushes yesterday too. I need to go back to Apple now but just need to schedule some time to sit and troubleshoot!

  • Opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

When opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9 (File -> Open or File -> Open As), the Adobe Camera Raw dialog do not open.
Instead I get a window with a progress bar and the text "Reading Camera Raw Format".
The image then opens in the Photoshop Elements editor.
I have tested this with raw images both from Canon EOS 1000D and Samsung WB2000 cameras.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this issue.
I run Photoshop Elements on a HP netbook running Widows XP and with an Intel Atom N450 / 1.66 GHz processor, 2 GB ram and a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Unfortunately you can't see the raw converter in PSE 9 on screens less than 800 px tall, which means not on netbooks. PSE will automatically convert it for you, but that dialog box and a few others, like the Advanced Downloader window, will not appear.

  • Leopard Can't open any Image HELP!!

This is very weird, I've been working fine all these past days since I installed Leopard, but suddenly I am not able to open any image file (giff, tiff, jpeg, even Acrobat files) with my preview image or photoshop, it looks like the file is open, I mean, IT IS OPEN but I CANT SEE ANYTHING, when I click the window toolbar I see that the file is there, but I cant see anything, same thing happend with Photoshop, I see all the layers of the file, I see even the file in the navigator, but I cant see the file itself !!! help, thanks

Sorry that didn't work. Here are some other suggestions.
How big is your Hard Drive, and how much room is left on it? Apple suggests you leave at least 10-15% free at all times, or else weirdness may ensue.
What kind of Install of Leopard did you do? If you did the Upgrade, weirdness may ensue. Back everything up and Archive and Install (preserving all users) or, better, Erase and Install. You can use Time Machine for the backup and reinstall from it. I've done it, and it works.
Also, did you download the 10.5.1 update? If so, did you do it from Software Update (39MB) or Apple Downloads(110MB)? If you didn't install it, go to Apple Downloads and use that one for best results.
    Hope some of these help.

  • PSE does not open any image nor it is possible to open a new file

    Hello,
having installed Photoshop Elements 13 for the first time on my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 Bit) computer it is a big disappointment.
I cannot open any image. It does not matter whether it is on a network share or local disk.
Have no deinstalled the program and reinstalled. But the behaviour does not change at all.
In the organizer I can select an image but when I want to transfer it the editor nothing happens.
It is also not possible to create a new empty image.
    Anybody else having this behaviour?

    Hi  Ing-HoBa ,
Are you able to launch Photoshop Elements 13 Editor?
    If not please follow these steps;
    Go to following location:
    for Win
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe
    for MAC
Finder> Go > Go to Folder
    \Library\Applicaiton Support\Adobe
    ~\Library\Applicaiton Support\Adobe
Locate folder OOBE and rename it OOBE.old
    Download and install
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Macintosh : Adobe Application Manager
    After the installation
Try to Open Adobe Application Manager / Creative Cloud App.
Log in that with Adobe ID and Password.
If it does not work first try couple of times more.
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

  • I can´t import or place any images in photoshop CS5

I can´t import or place any images in photoshop CS5. I receive always the note that there is a program error. Could someone help me with this problem?
    Thank you very much.
    Silvia

    Good day!
    What is your OS?
    Can you open the images?
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)

  • Lightroom won't open an image in Photoshop CS2

I have Photoshop 1.1 on a PC running Windows XP. I can't open a Lightroom image in Photoshop CS2 through the "photo" menu because the menu selection to open an image in Photoshop is dimmed. Also in "Preferences" in the "external editors" tab it says "Photoshop not found." My Photoshop is on the same drive as Lightroom. Am I wrong in assuming LR should open an image in CS2?
In a related matter I opened a Photoshop customer support case about this, but did not receive a reply. Is this typical of Adobe? Isn't this the kind of question they should answer even without a paid support plan?

    Richard,
What I did when faced with a similar situation was to go to Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs, then select Uninstall or Change for Adobe Photoshop CS2, then when prompted whether to Uninstall or Repair, choose Repair. This will fixup all the registry entries that appare to be missing from your system.
    Works for me at least.

  • Can't Open Bridge Images in Photoshop

Upgraded Photoshop CS5 to CS6, Windows 7. Uninstalled CS5. Now can't open Bridge images in Photoshop.

    Thanks, problem solved!
The first thing I did was check the file associations which, indicating “Photoshop”, I assumed was OK.
But then, motivated by your suggestion, I checked more carefully and found that “Photoshop” was pointing to an earlier version.
Next I “browsed” and reset the association to the Photoshop CS6 .exe file and now images in Bridge open in Photoshop just like they used to.
