Opening attachments to email

How can I open .wmv and .pps attchments on my new iMac 27.5? They open fine on a PC. This iMac has Office X for Mac with Power Point and Quick Time 10.0(90.3.1) I am using Entourage for email.
Thanks,

I know I answered a previous question of yours about AppleWorks, but his forum is dedicated to AppleWorks. It is not a "catch-all" for how Apple computers work. It's common for users to come to these forums for all of their Mac support, but the purpose of these forums is technical support for Apple-branded hardware & software.
Your best option for questions related to Office would be the Microsoft Office forums. You could also try the forum for your version of OS X in these forums. Tom Gewecke has written a user tip with quite a few suggestions.
My first suggestion for e-mail attachments, though, is to save them to your hard drive & then open them.

Often, pictures or simple documents (eg, one-page PDFs) will appear directly within the message itself. You can also use the Quick Look button next to the attachments line (in the message header) to view and scroll through the files (provided they're viewable, and aren't compressed or binary files).
You can also click Save next to Quick Look to save the files to your Downloads folder.

  • How to open attachments in email from windows users

How to open attachments in email from windows users.

That would be totally dependent on what type of file has been sent. What is the windows user sending to you?

  • Can't read opened attachments in emails

When I try to open an attachment received in an email, I get a "notepad" sheet filled with unreadable gobbledegook! Does this mean I will never be able to open attachments sent from Windows users in emails? (probably no great loss) or have I not downloaded something I need? I haven't downloaded anything.

It depends on the attachment. Different types of attachments (files) require different applications to open them so if you are lacking the appropriate application to open the file you're going to get what you have.
For instance, if an image is sent Mail can firstly show the image and second, when you try to open that in an external application it will open in Preview (unless it's be set to another application like Photoshop). However, if an Microsoft PowerPoint slideshow is sent and you don't have PowerPoint then you will get the mess you have else it will refuse to open at all.
Just find out what the attachments require (you should get this from the sender) so you know what you're supposed to be opening it with.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Are you sure that the attachment file type is a supported file? Can you open the attachment on your computer?
If the answer to both questions is yes - try quitting the mail app completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Just tap on the attachment and it should open. It must be a file format that the iPad can read or it will not work. Your iPad should be able to open any of these file types in the mail app.
Viewable document types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)

  • Change memories to open attachments in Email

I can not open my attachements in my Emails. I receive a message that there is not enough memory.
How can i increase the memory?
I can open this attachments in my telephone BB who is linked with BB Bridge. But not on my PlayBook.

To see how much space is available and how much memory is actively being used:
    1. Swipe from the center top of the PB - Menu will appear
    2. Select "About". To the right you will see "View information about your tablet"
    3. Select "hardware" from the drop down menu.
Based on the file type (PDF) you mentioned and the size there should not be a problem opening the files.
There is not a way to add more memory - If you find that memory is the issue you may need to review the applications you have loaded, although i have not seen anyone report this challenge as of yet (not even with the 16GB model).

  • Why does it take too long to open attachments from email account?

It takes forever to download attachments from my email account. I have tried to do the following tasks explained on the vista forum :http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/6b046ae9-1434-4423-9303-400ff6fe686b1033.mspx#ESD but none of the possible fixes work.
After clicking open on the pop up box asking whether i want to open or save the attachement It takes too long to download it. The transfer window stays open showing that it is ready to download but stays at that bhox window. I press cancel and try to open again, if lucky it opens that file, otherwise it takes forever forceing me to cancel. The files very small files most of the time, usually between 50kb so should take seconds.
I have even tried to save the files but again same process. The transfer box stays open but does not download.
    Any one any ideas.
    Thanx in advance.

    Hello
It is not easy to say what happen exactly but it must be something with email account provider and their page. For me this case is not some typical Vista problem but you can try to find solution on Microsoft Vista IT Pro forum.
By the way: do you have alternative mail address by some other provider? Is there the same situation?

I open my email message and click on attachment to open. Nothing happens. there is no reason given for not opening.

I am using documents to go.  When I try to open an attachment, it appears to download then when download is complete, it resets and I can't find the document.
    Any suggestions?

Does it do it with every document?  If so, I'd try reinstalling the handheld programs.
Open the Desktop version you have installed on your computer, then go up to Tool/Options/Reinstall Handheld programs.
Next HotSync will transfer clean copies of all necessary files.

  • Any way to open attachments via Mail?

I have my iPhone 4 mail sync with Exchange server over the air. It works great. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to open attachments to email messages (I do have a document viewer for PDF, etc installed). When I view the message, there is nothing to tap on to open/view the attachment.
In the subject view, I can se that the message has an attachment (paperclip icon). When I forwad the email, the attachment does get forwarded. But how do I VIEW the attachment?

Duh... I didn't scroll all the way to the end of the message where the icon to open the attachment appears.
