Opening AutoCAD files

Question:
What Adobe drawing program will open AutoCAD DWG files made using a more recent AutoCAD application than AutoCAD 2007?

One of the caveats is that, as the Illustrator CS4 Help file says,
"Adobe Illustrator * Importing EPS, DCS, and AutoCAD files
Importing AutoCAD files. Note: Illustrator will not open AutoCAD files saved in a
version later than AutoCAD 2007. AutoCAD files include both DXF and DWG ...
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-..     64k"
and that has been what I have encountered.
Sorry, I don't know how to get this message back to the "forums" location.
Thanks, anyway.

  • Opening AutoCAD files in Illustrator CS3 - Jagged Curves

When I open my 2004 format AutoCAD files, all the smooth polylines from CAD are made into jagged edges (a bunch of straight segments) in Illustrator. Does anyone know how to fix this to smooth them back out? Thanks,
    Matt

Brandon one of the problems is that you guys spend time complaining about it but you don't file a bug report if a few of you did it would get adobe's attention and they probably would do something about it.
If one person like myself does it it means that there is very little going on with this issue and it is probably user error. but if a group files then hey let's look at it.
    So file a report.

  • How can I open AutoCAD Files with layers?

In Illustrator CC, I could open dwg or dxf files, but layers are merged(I tried all option when I saved in AutoCAD).
In Illustrator CS6 I could open the files keeping layers. So I thought there is the way I can open the files in CC.

That's a genuine bug as far as I know. Keep your CS6 handy...

  • How I prevent the batting linestyle from being lost when opening an Autocad file in Illustrator?

I have worked out how to open Autocad files in Illustrator, but Illustrator does not obviously recognise the batting linestyle I have used for insulation and it only appears as a straight line. Is there any where to preserve the batting line when opening the file in Illustrator?

If a linestyle is not coming over, I would assign a unique color in CAD. This way you can select similar color in Illustrator, and change them easily in Illustrator.

  • I have a new iPad air using autocad 360, when I go to open a file it gets around 70% done and then states I am out of memory.

I am trying to open autocad files on my new iPad air 64mb, I have loaded autocad 360, every time in open the file I get a message that I'm out of memory can some one help

Quit all other open apps then reset the iPad and try again.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
If that doesn't help I would delete the app and download a fresh copy. Be sure you save the file somewhere other than in the app when you do this.

  • Problem with AutoCAD files in AI

    Hi all
I hope I have a simple problem :-) I need to prepare some EPS files for printing. The problem is if I open AutoCAD DWG or DXF file in AI CS4 I am getting streight lines, not nice arcs:
    I have got:
    should be:
I can open file in the AI with nice arcs, but in AutoCAD I have to explode all polylines to separated arcs. Then I can't fill with black colour area between two lines, like here:
I tried to use all DXF formats, all AutoCAD formats, maybe I should look for solution in AI CS4? I am confused, because in CS2 all was ok :-(
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? Thank you :-)
    Regards
    Paul

    Hi Wade
    Thank you for your answer.
I tried simplifing and it looked great. But unfortunately when I checked both drawing (AutoCAD drawing and AI one with simplified lines) - these drawings are really similar, but not the same. It is about 3...5 mm diffrent. I need 0.1 mm precision :-)
    Someone will maybe ask me:
Why don't you want to use not closed polylines from AutoCAD but separated ARCs - if it works for you?
Because please look at drawing above - sometimes I could get to do 100 arcs - and I think it must be in two separeted groups - outer and inner group - I think only then I will be able to do something like this:
or, maybe I am not right and it is any quicker way to do it?
    SUMMARY:
In AutoCAD I have to create drawing. For some reason I must use AI (eg. for creating dots matrix - in AutoCAD it possible but takes ages!!! in AI I can do it automaticly in 5 sec...).
    - Drawing shape is ok if I have separated arcs and lines from AutoCAD, but then I need to spend a lot of time grouping objects
    - Drawing shape is wrong if I open AutoCAD file with closed polylines
I think the best idea is to find solution to import closed polylines from AutoCAD into AI.
In AI CS2 everything works perfect, but we are so busy we need to use other AI but today it is impossible to buy CS2 :-(((

  • Autocad files and Illustrator

I currently open Autocad files into Illustrator to prepare floor plans for publications. I use Illustrator CS and the drafting department uses the current AutoCad program. Inorder for me to open the Cad files the need to be saved back to the 2000 version. Is there a plugin I need to download to open the current version of Cad? I also can not open .dxf files only .dwg.
    Thanks,
    Emily

First, you have posted your question in the forum dedicated to the operation of these Apple Discussions. You must have missed the announcement on the front page of this forum that this is not the place for technical questions.
Since you question doesn't involve Apple software, the best place to start would be the web site for the software company. Perhaps the Adobe forums are a good starting point for your question.

  • Drag and Drop an Attached AutoCad File in a PDF Portfolio to and Open Drawing in AutoCad

I currently Printed all my Details to PDF and combined them all into a catalog to view them. I them attached all the AutoCad files to the PDF. I can open the AutoCad file in the pdf, but it will open it as a new drawing int AutoCad. I would like to Drag and drop from the PDF file to a drawing that is already opened in AutoCad. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hello,
I think you posted this question in the wrong forum: this is one of the Captivate forums and I do not see a relation to it, but can be wrong.

  • Opening an AutoCAD file (.dwg)

I am new at using Adobe Illustrator and I am having a problem when I try and open an AutoCAD file (.dwg).
The file does not open to the right size, full scale.  And some of the radius do not open as radius but as angles.
    What am I doing wrong?

You created an intersection/ boolean on the right, which is a different thing than a parametric blend/ fillet/ chamfer. Your size issues would depend on setting up your units in ACAD and on import. If set properly, AI should convert it 1:1, but you have to keep in mind that it operates internally on inches and points, so DPI settings may affect precision and interpretation of your file.

DoubleCAD XT: Including this in a Free .DWG viewer category is almost insulting it, as it is a full fledged 2D Drafting tool like AutoCAD LT. It is completely free. It can indeed open your .DWG files, and you can also edit them. It can also import Google Skethup files, and do a lot more. Read more about this fantastic software here.
Autodesk DWG TrueView: This is a free DWG viewer from Autodesk. It is not just a DWG viewer, but also a CAD file conversion software for translating any AutoCAD design application or AutoCAD-based drawing file for compatibility.
Autodesk Design Review: This also comes from the house of Autodesk. It is an integrated, all-digital way to view, print, mark up, and compare versions of 2D and 3D drawings, maps, and models—without the original design-creation software.
eDrawings Viewer: This comes from house of SolidWorks. eDrawings Viewer allows convenient viewing of native AutoCAD files (DWG and DXFT) and native SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Bentley View: Bentley View is a free DWG, DGN and CAD File Viewer. It’s the best tool for projects that require a powerful viewing, measuring, and printing application for MicroStation, AutoCAD, or hybrid projects.
Varicad Viewer: Varicad Viewer is a scaled-down version of VariCAD. It can open STEP (3D), DWG (2D), DXF (2D), Varicad, and IGES (2D) files.
Free DWG Viewer: This free DWG viewer can view and measure DWG, DXF, and DWF files. It has XRef support to view layers & block attributes.
pls try one of the above..as an alternate solution ,if none of them are able to open it ...then pls let me know

  • AutoCAD file Display

    Dear All,
I want to View AutoCAD file in SAP without any CAD integration. Just a display as how a pdf file opens with a ECL viewer.
I have added extension *.dwg in DC30 in ACD workstation application. Now, i can attached DWG file but not able view. It gives following error -
"The file does not have a program associated with for performing this action. Create as association in the folder Options control panel."
Let me know the solution for this.
Also, let me know if any config docment avialabe for same.
    Regards,
    Atul R. Rajmane

    Hi,
To view file type DWG (auto cad files ) you need ECL viewer. This is installed as add on option along with SAP gui in your frontend system. This is a neutral viewer and supports lot of filef ormats including DWG format. The file opens in display mode. Autocad is not required in your front end for this purpose.
In order to associate this ECL viewer following customizing is required.
In DC 30 for WS ACD goto  'Define workstation application in network' and create a new entry with the following values
    Data Carrier Type = PC
    Application type = 1
    Path with prog. name =  EAIWeb.webviewer2D.1 %SAP-CONTROL%

How do I resolve the issue Cannot open the file ".indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing , or the file may be open in another application?

Shouldn't the CC version be able to open any file created in an older version on InDesign?
    Yes, it ought to.
If the older file wasn't yours (if someone emailed it to you,or burned it on a disc, or whatever), then I am almost willing to bet you a beverage in the city of your choice that it's not a complete InDesign file. That is, maybe it was zipped and renamed, or the beginning or end of the file was chopped off during download, or something like that. The only reason I'm not actually making the bet is that there is a remote chance that I'd lose, and maybe you're in Adelaide or Khabarovsk or somewhere where the cost of airfare to me would make that bet a very expensive bet for me to to lose. So no latte for you if I'm wrong!
The script that Jongware posted will tell you what version of InDesign made the file to begin with. Additionally, if someone did something like rename YourFile.PDF to YourFIle.INDD, it'll report that it's Not An InDesign File. Because while SpectrumPCS is kinda right and that message can be generated when attempting to open a CS5 file in CS3 or whatever, it also spits out the same message when you just try to open an Autocad file, or a Windows system file, or a PDF, or any file that InDesign actually cannot open at all.

  • Autocad file not deleting

I am using Macbook pro 13 inch. My mac operating system is Lion. On my bootcamp where im using windows 7 some of the AutoCAD file are neither open nor delete. If i try to delete Only "preparing to delete" msg disply and no further progress and unltimately I have to start task manager to end the process or shut down.
I'm very much frustated with this because Im an civil engineer and AutoCAD is must for me.
    Thank You in advance

    > Is

It depends on which actions you use for the different tasks.
For instance, "Distribution" options are executed prior to "Run" options, so
can't delete a file under the "Distribution" options that are installed
    under the "Run" options.

  • Placing an AutoCAD file in Illustrator

I'm trying to place an AutoCAD file into Illustrator and it's telling me it's a format which cannot be placed.  What version of AutoCAD IS supported?  I've got AutoCAD 2014 and the current subscription for Illustrator, do I really have to save it down to a 2010 version save to get my "place" to work?

Yes. AI only supports Open Exchange DWG/ DWF/ DXF because that's when Autodesk stopped documenting their internals. Nobody but Autodesk understand their proprietary newer formats.

  • Opening AutoCad drawing in Illustrator CS6

I am very skilled in CS5 and CS4, however I have updated to CS6, However I am unable to open a simple autocad .dwg into CS6
    I am using Autocad 2013
I did not know if i need to down save the file to an older autocad file. Or is there a new way of opening an autocad file into CS6
    Thanks

You will need to downsave the file to an older version of Autocad or export it as a PDF or possibly an EPS.
