Opening .BUP & .IFO files

What program do i need to open these file types?
I've tried opening them with mplayer but it doesn't do anything...
thanks-o!

From http://www.divx-digest.com/glossary.html#ifo
IFO files contain the formatting information of the VOB files, which tells the DVD player exactly how the DVD should be played (eg. aspect ratio, subtitles, languages, menus ...). BUP files are backups for IFO files, which are needed if the IFO files gets corrupted. If you rip the DVD without IFO files, then the VOB files may not play correctly, or may not even play at all. Similarly for conversion, IFO files are essential since video converters like FlasKMPEG (which supports IFO parsing) will need them if you want to encode videos, or fix multi-angle ripping problems.
Apparently, these are simply formatting-info files with no actual a/v content.
You're missing yourself a .vob

  • VTS,VOB,IFO,BUP  VIDEO files wont play on Mac???

I have a sony handycam DVD, From the DVD in camera I can play it on dvd player on Mac when copy and paste file from DVD to Mac cannot open any of files ?????? what can I do ???

The VTS, BUP and IFO files are not video files at all, which would thus be a problem on any playback application.
The VOB files are MPEG-2 files by any other name. Buy the Apple MPEG-2 playback component and open the files for editing in MPEG Streamclip (free) , not Quicktime, as any edits you do and exports of same will not have audio. You still need the MPEG-2 component either way.
And if the DVD uses AC3 Dolby audio you won't have any to listen to before exporting either. QT doesn't like AC3 audio either.

  • Creating an ISO file from a bunch of BUP, IFO, VOB files

    Hi
First, i want to apologize to all of you if my question is already answered somewhere, i did a search before.
I have a bunch of BUP, IFO, VOB files (from an entire DVD) that i would like to burn into a single .ISO file.
I am looking for the best software to do this. I would have used ImgBurn on my PC i guess... But with my iMac?
Thanks a lot for your much appreciated help!

Yes, the question has been answered before, several times.
The only difference is that you want to create an ISO image, which usually means a raw disk image from another OS (eg, Win or Linux), although Mac OS X can attach or burn such an image.
If you want to create a DVD-Video disc image, then you must use a tool specifically designed for it, if you want to use the image to create DVDs which will play in stand-alone DVD players. That's because such DVDs require a rigid disc layout.
If you want to go commercial, you can use Toast or NTI DragonBurn. Otherwise, Burn, suggested by Alberto Ravasiomay also be a good solution (I'm not sure if it can save disc images, rather than burn them). Other solutions are
    DVD Image Utility
    <http://geek.thinkunique.org/2007/07/17/dvd-image-utility/>
or, if you can handle the command line,
    mkisofs
    <http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html>
    (part of the cdrtools kit)
You can also have a look at
    Disco
    <http://discoapp.com/>
    LiquidCD
    <http://www.maconnect.ch/>
Both can burn DVD-Video; I'm not sure if they can save as a disc image.

    Start Disk Utility
DU (or hdiutil) can create an ISO image, and, if it's used to burn to DVD, the disc can be played on computer DVD drives. But it will not play on most stand-alone DVD players, because of the layout issue I mentioned above. Hence, it's not a good idea to use it to create a DVD-Video disc image.

  • Vob bup ifo irs files that will not delete

Hi, this is a dirty little problem. I need help to remove these files. When I attempt to remove them I am given an advisory saying 'I dont have sufficient privilidges to remove' even though I am the administrator. The files are large .bup, .ifo, .vob and .irs that I want off my PB12. I have tried everything I can think of, including file/get info/and changing properties. Anyone got any ideas????

Guys, I was almost there and now I've fixed it. The solution was in the File/Get Info detail. I did not realise that you can change individual file rights but it does not allow you to delete unless you change the rights to the folder in which the files are held. In fact if you just change the folder rights it gives you the option to change the rights to all files contained within. If i'd figured that at the start it would have saved a few hours of my life on this planet. But hey ho, as its Mac I'll forgive. PS Jobs; the iPhone is simply outstanding.

  • Confused regarding .VOB, .BUP, and .IFO files

I am a renowned impulse shopper (for example, I went researching new computers and came home with an iMac 1 day later with no clue how to work it), and I have been reading these discussion pages constantly for the past week. I do not want to go buying unfamiliar stuff to accomplish my goal without getting some advice, based just on what I have gleaned from the discussions. I hope this is ok.
My goal is to convert my home VHS videos into an editable format within iMovie 08 so that I can edit, then burn them to DVD. Here is what I have so far...I really hope you can provide some advice as to whether I am on the right track?
For using my VHS player, I was advised to use Dazzle (or Video Capture for Mac), but the website says it converts into MPEG-4. I have read that this is the lesser quality compared to MPEG-2 so I am not sure if there is better equipment or will this be fine? Before being told about Dazzle, I was looking for a cheap DVR that would connect to my computer.
For the VHS that I have already had Wal-Mart convert to DVD, I have tried to copy them onto my hard drive but they are in a VIDEO_TS folder filled with .VOB, .BUP, and .IFO files. Naturally, I cannot play those files. I read that MPEG Streamclip and iSquint are popular tools for these files, but I must admit to feeling idiotic when reading more about them. I do not know what would be best for my project.
Thanks so much for any advice and guidance on this very confusing topic. I simply want to understand and buy what I need the first time to achieve my goals using my nice, new shiny iMac!

My suggestion would be to convert to DV for editing, mpeg2 and h264 are both compressed and are not generally a first choice for editing purposes, h264 is much more efficient than mpeg2, so of the two would I believe be the better option regardless of the fact that you couldn't use mpeg2 with imovie anyway.
To convert VHS you will need some form of capture hardware such as a stand alone device or a PCI card although if you know someone with a miniDV camera with pass through capability you could also use that.
As for those DVD's you got done at wal-mart, I don't know if they offer it as a service but you would be better getting them as data DVD's with DV files on them rather than DVD format. For those that you already have mpegstreamclip would be my tool of choice, again converting them to DV.

  • What is an IFO file? How can I edit it?

My sister in law sent me an IFO file (video) from her SONY camera. My ultimate goal is to be able to import it into iDVD and include it on a slideshow that I'm making. Is this going to be possible? Can I get some kind of conversion software? I also have another PC laptop that I was able to open the file on but it won't let me export it and/or save it as another file type. It's frustrating...can anyone please help? Thanks!
    Jameson

You need more than an IFO file for playback - you need all the items in the VIDEO_TS folder on a DVD. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IFO and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VOB
Something like VisualHub ( http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/ ) will let you convert the content to DV for use in iDVD.

  • How to view .bup video files?

My parish priest sent me five video files that have a file name that end in .bup - for example: VTS_01_0 file type .bup
Is it possible for me to view these?
    Thank you.

These are back-ups for the IFO files, which are used for play and control functions for the DVD.
    http://filext.com/file-extension/BUP
You really need the VOB files to view or edit the DVD video.

  • How can my ibook convert a VIDEO_TS folder or VIDEO_TS.IFO file to a .dv fi

5/27/2009. how can my ibook convert a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder or VIDEO_TS.IFO file to a .dv file? That is, in order to do some editing on it? Will QuickTime pro do this? Will Roxio Toast do this? How??? Many thanks. C. Yopst, Chicago area.

Use [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> (free) to convert the VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder to DV. You will also need the [MPEG-2 component|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2> ($20) to be able to open and convert these files.
This is of course assuming you have full rights to the footage or permission from the copyright holder to use the files.

  • Can iPad play DVD w/ MENU (.IFO) files?

Handbrake will not work as this converts VOB files without navigation menues found in the IFO files. Is there any way to get interactive multimedia DVD on the iPad. I am hoping that VLC is approved soon, so I can just copying over the .dvdmedia package and just open the appropriate .IFO file and go to town...

Discussing how to illegally rip DVD's is not appropriate. Find out how to figure out your issues elsewhere.
Dude, who says I'm illegally copying DVDs, that was quite rude and unhelpful. I have a language CD from another country that is menu intensive, and I have authorization to copy this for my own personal use.

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

  • InDesign crashes every time you double click to open an .indd file on Windows system

InDesign crashes every single time you double click to open an InDesign file and has done so since replacement of the original version of InDesign introduced in the Creative Cloud launch.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I'd say it was unique to my system if I hadn't experienced the issue repeatedly on several different systems now.  You have to relaunch InDesign which then opens the file from recovery, so it saw the file you tried to launch in the first place.  This leads me to believe the problem lies with the file association registry of InDesign inside Windows systems.  I find it unbelievable that this problem still exists and remains unreported and that a solution hasn't been implemented by Adobe to rectify the issue.
The double click is a fundamental tenant of opening files on a Windows system in the same way a single click is on a Mac.  Does InDesign crash ever time a Mac user clicks to open their files, I think not.
Anyone got any ideas other than the obvious which is Adobe actually got their figure out and fixed it.
    Cheers,
    Pat Doyle

    Hi Michael,
I'll give it a go.  Don't really like messing with the registry on Windows boxes.  Yes you can do it, but it can end up being a case of the operation was a success, but the patient died.
Just was rather hoping someone else had already experienced this problem and posted the registry tweak.  Didn't want spend hours reinventing the wheel.  Not because I'm lazy, but I have so many demands on my time that resolving a minor issue that effects me only seems like it should be pretty low priority.
The system I'm using is brand new, but the problem seems to have followed me regardless which may indicate that it is seated in my synchronization information somehow.  Really don't know how that could happen as I'm not an Adobe engineer or have the remotest idea where to even start looking.  So I think I'll mark your suggestion as the "Answer" and just learn to live with it.
Windows eh! Can't live with - can't live without it.  I'm sure Mac can be just as temperamental. Just have to chalk this one up as being just another ghost in the machine.
Thanks for all the advice you have kindly offered, much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Pat Doyle
