Opening Camera Raw - Windows XP

Sorry if this seems a bit too obvious a question!
I installed CS2 about 18 months ago, and never needed to use Camera Raw until now. I spent ages trying to find it on my computer, looking through photoshop, Bridge, Windows Explorer but just couldnt find it. I know I have it because updates are downloaded every so often for it.
Just to check I actually have Camera Raw, I searched in Explorer and it came up with:
- two .zip XML files the computer doesnt recognise and cant open
- An empty file folder
- An updater file (Prefetch)
- The application, Adobe\plug-ins\CS2\file formats\ which I when I click to open the computer says it does not know the file type (.8BI file type).
I've looked to downloading a update/file for it, but I dont see how the ones available will actually patch the programme so that it will work.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to open it?
Thanks for your help :)

Laura,
you'll never launch Camera Raw---Photoshop does (or Bridge), as John just has explained. The latest Camera Raw version you can use with Photoshop CS2 is 3.7. To use any later versions, you'd need to upgrade to Photoshop CS3.
If you have raw files from digital cameras that aren't supported by Camera Raw 3.7 (i. e. cameras that came to market after Camera Raw 3.7 was released) then use the current version of Adobe DNG Converter to convert the raw files into DNG format, then use Camera Raw 3.7 to process the DNG files. Adobe DNG Converter is a little stand-alone program (not a plug-in) that you can download free of charge from Adobe's website.

  • Why external editor Cs5 doesn't open in Adobe Camera Raw window?

I am workning in Apertute 3 and I want to edit some photos in Photoshop Cs5. I am working with RAW files, but when I want to open the file in external editor, it doesn't open in Adobe Camera Raw so I am loosing the Adobe Camera Raw adjustment abilities. Is there perhaps a way how to set up Aperture to comunicate with Photoshop Cs5 so it opens photos in Camera Raw window? I think in previous version of Aperture this was possible. Thanks.

Editing in the external editor (from within aperture) is only possible for Versions, not for masters, afaik. Since it would be pointless to export a Version again in some raw format, Aperture offers high quality lossless formats to export versions - tiff and Photoshop psd.
If you want to do the raw processing externally, you will have to edit the master image file:
export the master, or reveal a managed master and copy it to Photoshop, then reimport it.
To edit the master in Photoshop and to reimport it, you could use an automator service: I put a sample workflow and some instructions on how to use and modify it on this page: feel free to modify it according to your needs.

  • How do i open pictures in Camera Raw Window?

How do i open pictures in this window?

Easiest way is to browse that file in Bridge and right click and Select "Open in Camera Raw" or just double click to open(only for raw files) and it will open in a separate Camera Raw window.
You can do that same from PS as well using Filter > Camera Raw Filter, as already mentioned by Warunicorn.

  • Bridge CS5 will not open camera raw - but hangs!!

Just installed CS 5 web premium upgrade from CS4 web P - but Bridge CS5 will not open camera raw - it hangs!! - but camera raw can open via Photoshop ext. 64 bit on my Windows 7 pc.
    Whats wrong???

In that case I would try resetting Bridge preferences by holding down Ctrl as you start Bridge.
Before that, ensure that there isn't a hidden copy of Bridge running under Task Manager > Processes.

  • Camera Raw window appears in wrong monitor

About a week ago, the camera raw window started appearing in the secondary monitor of my pair and I cannot stop it from starting there. It appears with the title bar up off the top of the screen and I can just barely grab the top corner of it from the edge of the primary monitor and drag it out where I can move it.
Prior to this, if I opened a raw file directly into CS3, it would start in the primary where CS3 is placed or if I right clicked a raw file in Bridge and chose open in CR, then it would open in the secondary monitor where Bridge is located. Now I don't get the choice. This was happening before the latest updates which all appear okay. System is a PC by the way.
    I would appreciate any assistance.

Okay, here's a lesson for us all. I had accidentally hit the F key (Full screen mode toggle) whilst in there and it fills the screen with no hope of getting to the edges. Once back in normal mode all is well again!!!!! Embarassed
    Thanks for the help

  • Can't open Camera Raw in Bridge

One thing I noticed is that with CS5, when I choose Browse in Mini Bridge while in Photoshop, Bridge opens in the background. In CS6 when I browse in Mini Bridge, regular Bridge does not open, although I can open Bridge directly from Photoshop. The other strange thing is that I can open Camera Raw from mini Bridge, just not from regular Bridge. I get the same message as others get, that Bridge's parent application is not active and that I must launch a qualifying product at least once in order to open Camera Raw. I searched all the files I downloaded and installed for "trial" but nothing came up. Is there a certain file name or extension I should be looking for? Or is there some other way to solve the problem?
    Thanks

Yes, but when I open mini bridge in CS5, I can see Bridge open on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen and I can click on it. In CS6 I can't see bridge open anywhere when I open mini bridge. It is like there is a separate version of bridge running invisibly or something. I don't understand it.
It sounds like your on a PC (Windows).  Windows only allows one version of Photoshop and one version of Bridge to run are ang given time.  There are also Preferences in the Bridge Advance setting to start bridge at log on. When this option is check Bridge stays open in the background and may be hidden. So if Bridge CS5 is running and you start Photoshop CS6 Bridge CS6 will not be able to start. So make sure the check box to start Bridge is not checked in both Bridge CS5 and Bridge CS6

  • Adobe camera raw window won't resize and can't reach buttons

When I open an image from bridge into adobe camera raw 6.1 (Photoshop CS5) on my laptop, the camera raw window fills all of the screen (top to bottom) and the buttons at the bottom of the window are below the task bar. Thus I can't open the image in photoshop except by hitting the enter key. I can't reach the open, etc buttons. The window won't resize and there are no icon/buttons in the right upper corner to go to/from full screen. When I hit the icon in the top right hand menu bar in ACR (to go to full screen size) the window then fills the whole width of the screen in addition to the height, but no matter what I do I can't get the height of the window to shrink, so that I can access the icons at the bottom of the screen. What am I missing? Thanks

Don't worry about turning aero off just yet.
There are two key first questions:
What is your screen resolution (width in pixels x height in pixels)?  Right-click on desktop, choose Screen Resolution.
What setting have you chosen for the display size (Smaller, Medium, Larger) in the Display dialog?  Right-click on desktop, choose Personalize, then Display.

  • Can't open camera raw in bridge. circle grey

Can't open camera raw in Bridge as broken circle is greyed out.  Why

    Not a clue.
I have no idea what you mean by "broken circle" and no clue as to what platform you're on, Macintosh or Windows, exact version of the OS, Bridge, ACR and Photoshop, what type of machine, RAM, etc.

  • Bridge won't allow me to open Camera Raw because a qualifying product has not been launched, any suggestions?

Bridge won't allow me to open Camera Raw because a qualifying product has not been launched, any suggestions?

Actually, it may be more to it. I just wasted good 7 hours on the issue: I transferred a big external drive from old WinXp system to my new W7 system, and faced the ownership mayhem ever since.
No matter what I did to the Volume Owner, Files Owner and attributes, recursive Directory Ownership jobs enduring tens of minutes at a time, nothing helped really.
Because you might have one more issue:
Use "Folder Options", either from Tools menu in Explorer, if menu shows, or via Control Panel.
Click on View tab, and find the box for "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Ignore that recommendation, uncheck.
Go now to the root directory of your troubled drive and you will see a hidden file "System Volume Information". This can be the "bad guy." Ensure that you have access to that file using the Properties / Security tab in a customary fashion! In my case that file was "padlocked", a small lock icon was placed over the folder icon to indicate that.
Only once I changed that, I was able to access the LR catalogs as a regular user. And only than LR was finally able to access existing previews and to display the grid image icons!
Ugrh.... Windows, the "personal computer system" is a mess, a labyrinth of convoluted intertwined dependencies, maybe created in competing departments and piled up atop of each other in an unseemly fashion. Compared to Unix and its derivatives it is a nightmare, which is a part of our lives for decades already.
I think that all the Apple users are now double-happy to have made the transition, when they see such "problems."

  • No matter what i try i cannot get Photoshop or Bridge to open Camera Raw Filters, how do i fix this?

no matter what i try i cannot get Photoshop or Bridge to open Camera Raw Filters, how do i fix this?
I have windows 8 and ive tried everything i can to open it but it refuses to let me.

    Let's get some information first.
What is your version of Adobe Camera Raw, Bridge, and Photoshop?
What files are you trying to open in ACR? If Raw, for what camera model?

  • Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
"Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.
    Thanks, CMA

I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

How to open Camera Raw in Bridge, it comes up with the following error Bridge parent application is not Active   Bridge requires that a qualifing product has been lanched at least once to enable this feature.  It opens in Photoshop CS6 & Elements 10 but not Bridge?

You need to look at all programs in your uninstall list, and see if you spot any old trials that are no longer active.
Camera Raw in Bridge and PS are the same program, so its not the program but access.  Would have been nice it you had stated OS, but here are locatons of camera raw for both OS.

  • Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw Update for Photoshop CS5. I have a pc.

Please Help? Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw update. I have a pc.

If the camera is fairly new then the version of ACR you have with CS5 won't be able to read those file. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop or use Lightroom 5.
Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe does not support updating ACR from the older version of PS.
