Opening CDR Files

I saw a number of posts on this topic, but nothing about this specifically: I'm trying to open a file in CDR 8. It shows in the dialogue window as an openable format. But it's not working. I see the filter/plug-in in the app folder so it seems like it should work??

Like Illustrator, Draw can save files compressed or uncompressed. If you are trying to open Draw files from, say, a clipart collection of Draw files, that's likely your problem.

  • Opening CDR file - Extremely Fatal to CS6 64-bit apps

I'm trying to get down the bottom of what's causing an extremely serious error in the 64-bit version of Adobe Illustrator CS6.
Adobe Illustrator can open CorelDRAW .CDR files, to a certain extent. The .CDR files need to be saved down to version 9 or 10 compatibility. One of my coworkers just ran into a really bad Illustrator CS6 crash caused when opening a .CDR file. This is a crash I had to endure on my own new system a couple months ago.
After Illustrator CS6 64-bit crashes it simply refuses to launch again. It crashes and closes. Rebooting doesn't help. Deleting the AI prefs file doesn't help. Worse yet, the crash basically hoses all of the CS6 64-bit apps that are installed. The 64-bit version of Photoshop CS6 crashes when opening a file.
The last time this happened my only recourse was to do a "factory reset" on my computer, basically wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 8 Professional in a clean state and then going through the very long, slow process of downloading and installing the CS6 apps from the Creative Cloud.
Does anyone in this forum have any experience with this particular kind of crash? Are there any possible alternatives that might fix this error besides wiping the hard drive and starting over? This bug is pretty badly timed. Gonna have to go through all the download/install process stuff again when the new CC apps are released.

The bug is unpredictable. Once the bug has occurred Adobe Illustrator CS6 64-bit will no longer launch. Rebooting and deleting the aiprefs file doesn't work. Additionally the bug also permanently affects other CS6 64-bit applications. Photoshop CS6 64-bit will launch, but it crashes when opening any file. After Effects and Premiere Pro crash at launch. No third party plug-ins were installed on this computer.
    Affected computer's hardware:
    Dell XPS 8500 Desktop
    • Core i7 3770 Quad Core 3.4GHz
    • 16GB RAM - Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 4 DIMMs
    • nVidia GeForce GT640 1GB GDDR5 SDRAM
    • 2TB 7200rpm SATA 6 Gb/s Hard Disc
    • DVD-R/W Drive
    • 19 in 1 media card reader
    • Windows 8 Professional 64-bit
When this bug affected my own workstation a couple months ago, I tried to uninstall Adobe Illustrator CS6, download it again and then reinstall. Illustrator CS6 64-bit still refused to launch. The other 64-bit apps wouldn't launch either. So I ended up wiping the hard disc, reinstalling Win 8 Pro clean and downloading/reinstalling everything and just being careful to not open any .CDR files after that. My workstation is a little better equipped (Core i7 3770, 24GB of RAM, BD-RW drive, nVidia GeForce 660GTX, Intel SRT solid state drive with SATA 6gb/s 2TB HDD).
Previously I did run into problems when opening CorelDRAW .CDR artwork that was larger than a standard letter sized page. I would get hit with a dialog box saying "the file appears to be corrupt." I'd end up making CorelDRAW save the artwork into Adobe Illustrator CS5 format and then opening it Illustrator. Once my Adobe apps got hosed by a certain .CDR file I simply stopped trying to open any CorelDRAW files directly in Illustrator at all. Didn't want to go through the long process of reinstalling everything from scratch again. Unfortunately my coworker didn't remember the details of my experience. So now we're dealing with it on her new machine.
My coworker said she thinks she remembers which .CDR file caused Illustrator CS6 64-bit to crash. Here's a Dropbox link to it:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86940762/V130520-1%20CC%20expo%20center%20billingsley% 20ford%20FS.cdr
Warning: I do not recommend other users to try opening this CorelDRAW file within Adobe Illustrator CS6. I'm sure not trying it on my installation!
This particular .CDR file doesn't have any active type in it. But it does feature some strange clipped gradient effects. I think some of this artwork was originally created in Illustrator and then saved in CorelDRAW. I'm wondering if there is some sort of way Corel tried to reinterpret the artwork that caused Illustrator to lose its mind when reopening it. If memory serves correctly I was opening some similar Illustrator-generated and then Corel-saved art in my own copy of AI CS6 64-bit when it crashed.

  • Open .CDR files on Illustrator?

    Hi there,
One of my assignments is to create something on Adobe Illustrator, but since I have CorelDRAW, I just used it instead.
Is it possible to open a .CDR file on Adobe Illustrator (CS5+)?
    Thanks for your help!

It depends on what version of coreldraw you have. Pdf may work as well, but you will need to test them formats and see which works the best. Also be prepared for errors and needing to change settings for the format to work, assuming it can.
That all the information I can give for now but if you goto the illustrator web page and coreldraws web page, they should provide what versions of the opposite it can open.
For example if coreldraw is older then illustrator should open the coreldraw format, if illustrator is older then coreldraw should be able to open the illustrator format. It is very rare to see a version come out in the same year that both would match, usually one needs to come out so the other can write the code needed for the others format.

otherwise ask your client to send you cdr files exported as

  • How do I import a .cdr file?

A client has supplied a CorelDraw .cdr file and I need to bring it into Pages.
If I could only get it into an .eps format I could use Preview to convert it to a pdf. All my options so far have failed, including Illustrator CS2 which is supposed to open .cdr files.
    Anybody have a solution?
    Thanks.

Yes I know all that, but the client doesn't and is all they have from a previous job which was archived sometime when my contact wasn't around.
As usual they just "want to get it done" and it "worked before". They aren't to know what is or isn't good practice and just find we designers seem to bicker between each other as to what is good and what isn't.
I think perhaps the printer, whoever that may have been, may have just converted it on their own machine to something useful. I can't imagine what else they did with it. Unfortunately I don't have CorelDraw myself and don't want to pay for it just for this.

  • The difference between a .dmg file & a .cdr file (using Disk Utility) ?

    Hi,
In particular, I created both from a DVD using Disk Utility.
When I chose "read only" a .dmg was created.
When I chose "DVD/CD Master" a .cdr was created.
They are exactly the same size.
    Is there any difference ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Pat De Marco

    HI Pat,
From Wikipedia: A file with the extension .dmg (an abbreviation for disk image) uses a disk image format commonly found on Mac OS X. The format allows secure password protection as well as file compression and hence serves both security and file distribution functions. Its most common function is the distribution of software over the Internet. When opened, DMG files are "mounted" as a drive within the Finder.
    From: Wikipedia .cdr and ISO
    ISO image
    Filename extension .iso
    Uniform Type Identifier public.iso-image
    Type of format Disk image
    Standard(s) ISO 9660
An ISO image is an archive file (a.k.a. disk image) of an optical disc using a conventional ISO (International Organization for Standardization) format that is supported by many software vendors. ISO image files typically have a file extension of .ISO but Mac OS X ISO images often have the extension .CDR. The name "ISO" is taken from the ISO 9660 file system used with CD-ROM media, but an ISO image can also contain UDF file system because UDF is backward-compatible to ISO 9660.

  • Error in cdr file

    hi,
Today, when I was working with a file in Corel and wanted him to withdraw, I got the error "
    Out of memory"
Then I tried to do the same with other Corel files and got the same error.
I think that the problem is not in memory, because it also happens with other smaller files, and my computer has a memory of 8GB.
I tried to work with this file on another computer and there are the same problems too.
I also repair Corel with installation tool, but no luck.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you very much.

I also suggest emptying the windows %temp% folder, and check that you have plenty of free space on the drive that provides virtual memory.
Also you have either used a corrupted font in your job or have it installed on your system. You can confirm by converting entire text in the file to curves and then try collecting for output.
You can go to this forum here to discuss the problem with
    Corel Drow http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/cad-tools/cad-tools-aa/coreldraw/479-problems-with-cdr-files
Also, there is still a good option to take advantage of any recovery program. I can advise

  • Cdr file preview in Bridge CS6

Anyone knows why Bridge CS6 wont display larger previews of cdr files?
The previous version I had (CS4) handled cdr files without  any problem.
    Thanks

Sorry I don't have an answer either, szf611.  In fact, I came here looking for an answer to this myself.
I had a vague memory that the ability to view CDRs might have come from a Bridge extension, rather than being a native capability, but I could be wrong about that.  (Maybe I'm thinking of the "Bridge Here" script?)  I don't know if it would have come from Adobe or Corel.
If I find any solution, obviously I'll post back.  You haven't found any more info since opening the thread, have you?

  • How do you create a .cdr file from Apple's DVDs?

I'm generally pretty religious about backing up DVD media to .cdr files in Disk Utility. As I look the iWork DVD that I have doesn't show any way to do this in Disk Utility right now.

I was able to solve the issue with a friends help. Here are the steps
STEPS in CREATING WSDL file from a FM:
1.Goto SE80 Create a package or select a package in which you want to create a web service.
2.Right click and select Create -> Enterprise Serve/Web Service -> Web Service
3.Follow the wizard steps answering all the questions until complete. This creates the service definition.
4.Goto transaction code <WSCONFIG> and enter the service definition name you have created in previous step. Enter the same name in both u2018service definitionu2019 and u2018variantu2019 fields.
5.Then click on Create button and save. This releases the webservice you created in to soap Runtime.
    6.Goto transaction <WSADMIN>
7.Open the tree structure to see the webservice that you just released and click on the right most button (Globe shape).
    8.Select u2018Document Styleu2019
9.You have now created the wsdl file for the FM.

  • Cant download the CDR files in either CSV or in PDF format

I have a CUCM 7.1.3 and where under the CAR tool, if I try to view the CDR file in either CSV or in PDF format I get the display in the screen itself as a text file and do not get a option to download it. This happens in both the cases when it is selected to either to CSV or PDF.
The last change done was the CUCM was upgraded from version 4.1 to version 7.1.3.32900-4.
    Got any suggestions???

I assume you are retrieving CDR records from the CDR Analysis tool. You may
want to check your browser settings to see how your browser handles CSV and
PDF file types. In my browser, I do not automatically open files. IOW, I am
asked if I want to download or open the CSV/PDF each time a choose to "View
    Report".
Other considerations, you have the ability to "Send Report" as well. Which
means you will get the CSV/PDF as an attachment.
Note that you can export raw CDRs to files (CDR->Export CDR/CMR). In this
page you can export the files. When the export process is complete, you will
have a list of files that you can download (Rightclick->download).
    HTH.

    Bill

  • Linked cdr files causing problems in InDesign

I have a Pagemaker file I am trying to open in InDesign. The PageMaker file has linked Corel Draw (cdr) files in the document. When I open the PageMaker file in InDesign, I am having problems with linked cdr files. The graphics come out blurry and I am unable to re-link them from InDesign. The linked cdr files are crisp and clean in PageMaker. If I try Windows\Links and then click on any cdr graphic, the options to relink, go to link, update link or edit orignal are all disabled. There are 2 machines with InDesign on them with the same specs and it happens on both of them.
Here are the machine specs on software: Windows XP SP2, Adobe PageMaker 7.0, InDesign CS3 Ver 5.0, Corel Draw 8 Ver 8.232

So my question is how to re-link these files? Can it be done with InDesign? Is there a compatability problem with InDesign and Corel Draw files? I would prefer not to have to start from scratch with the document.

  • Can I convert .ISO file into .CDR file ?

    Hi,
I want to install Vista (beta) on my MacBook, using BootCamp. For this I need to burn the Wista.ISO image onto a DVD which then I can install on the partition created by BootCamp assistant. I only have this intel computer and a PowerBook G4.
Question: Is there a way for me to convert the .ISO (vista image) into a .cdr file that I can burn normally? Or is there any other way to perform the istallation?
    Thank you

Hi everyone, this is an update.
I changed the title of my subject to "How do you burn .ISO files on Mac or convert them to .CDR?" and opened a new thread.
I did not know how to delete this post so please, should you like to contribute your knowledge would you kindly consider posting on this new, above mentioned thread.
    Thank you very much

  • Converted my iMove/iDVD Project with Disk Utility as a .CDR file

    Hello,
I filmed a wedding years ago.
Used iMovie and iDVD and gave to the client.
To save room on my HD I used Disk Utility to make an exact copy by making a .CDR file
I now would like to open that file and just take certain clips of my finished product and upload to YouTube for other to see my work.
Problem is nothing seems to open .VOB files.
MPEG Streamclip just gives me a line with no video or sound.
Wondershare is perfect but cost $50.00
Any suggestions on what I can do?
    Thank you for your time.
    John

The last recommendation as pointed out above will likely provide the results you wish and involves just that application as opposed to combining multiple apps to do the very same thing. Toast is also a great choice (but more $$ if you don't already own it).
