Opening Claris Works-documents with Pages 2.0.2

Hi fellow users,
I've got an iMac with OSX 10.5.5 and I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 as my browser right now. Is there any way I could open my old Claris Works -textdocuments with Pages 2.0.2? If not, then do you know a any other way I could open them?

Thank you both Yvan and dwb. But. The problem is that because I don't have the original Apple Works in my hard disk anymore the AppleWorks 6 Update does not work in my case because it only tells: "The default location required for this install could not be found. This install will be cancelled".
What you got is normal. The updater apply to older intalled AppleWorks 6.
If you need to open your documents, you need AppleWorks 6.
So search a bit on the Net to buy one copy.

Yvan, I'm sorry about the wrong forum, but I really could not find a more suitable one...

Pages? Can I open really old Claris Works documents with it? I don't want to spend $20 to find out. I saved a bunch of stuff back in 1996, and now i need to open it.

Pages opens strictly word processing AppleWorks v6 files.
The problem with ClarisWorks files were they could contain all sorts of objects from databases to spreadsheets, drawings and paint. the iWork suite is not that versatile.
But you really have little choice as ClarisWorks and AppleWorks are both history. If you are going to switch, the sooner the better.
Just keep in mind what Apple did to ClarisWorks/AppleWorks along with many other of their appliactions and technologies theywill ultimately do to Pages.

THis is safe for Mac's? Sorry, I have just never heard of this site before.
And there are literally tens of thousands of sites of which I've not heard, too. Not this one.
It's legit. There are lots of links in Apple Support Communities to the LibreOffice web site, as well as others that are legitimate open-source developers of options to buying MS Office, such as NeoOffice and OpenOffice. I have Open Office installed on one of my older Macs that can't run Office 2011 and it is rock-solid.
I've been here too long to start posting bogus urls now.

  • Opening Pages 2.0 documents with Pages 1.01

I cannot seem to figure out how to open a page on my work computer with Pages 1.01 that I saved on my home computer using Pages 2.0. Could there be a possible integration problem with the two different versions? Everytime I click "Open File" it says that it cannot be opened. Help please!?!?

Do you still have Pages 2.0 on your Mac? Even if you still have the trial version of Pages 2.0 which has expired it will allow you to open/view Pages 2.0 documents, but not save them.

  • Pages 5.1 error "This document is too old. To open it, save it with Pages '09 first."

When trying to open a Pages '08 file from a MacBook Pro in Pages 5.1 on an iMac, I get thr error message, "This document is too old. To open it, save it with Pages '09 first". I cannot locate a Pages '09 to use.  I can export the file from Pages '08 into a Microsoft Word Doc file and can open it then. How I do I solve the problem and open files in Pages 5.1?

It is A solution that works if you don't have too many Page files to convert, but is very poor solution if trying to move everything off of the MacBook Pro to the iMac.  I don't necessarily need to open the 5 years of files, but if I need to look at something archived, I'm dead in the water.
It doesn't make sense that a Mac can open a Microsoft product but cannot open a Mac product.  I can understand that a program is not forward compatibale, but almost all programs are backward compatible. This same problem appears with Numbers 3.1.
Apple needs Microsoft as a solution?

  • Open Pages '08 Document with Pages

A client recently emailed me a Pages '08 document and I can't open it with my copy of regular old Pages.
What? I can't open a Pages '08 document with Pages 2.02? Serious? That's just messed up. I mean, I should at least be able to view the document.
And it's not that I don't want to upgrade. I just haven't gotten around to it because Pages works well for me.
    Meh.

    the macaficionado,
In order to avoid "threadjacking", you should be asking this question in a new posting. Having said that, you can be helped by this link, especially the recommendation of Walt K in that thread:

I can't open any pdf documents with Adobe Reader XI...get an error that "Adobe has stopped working" then it closes.  Is this an Adobe issue, Microsoft issue, or security issue?

Thank you!  That seemed to do the trick.  Don't think I'd ever have figured that one out!!

  • HT1750 Pages, This document can't be opened because it's too old.  To open it, save it with Pages 09 first          still can't open pages document

I recently purchased a new Mac and I am having difficulty opening older Pages documents.
Pages, This document can't be opened because it's too old.  To open it, save it with Pages 09 first          still can't open pages document

Either you have access to Pages ’08 v3, Pages ’09 v4, or neither. One of these older, but more functional versions of Pages can open, and export the document in question to Word. Preview on OS X 10.9.5 and Yosemite can view Pages ’08 documents (in my experience). It is not obvious to me that Preview may be using the installed Pages ’09 v4.3 to assist in opening these '08 documents.
Once opened in Preview, you can select/paste text into Pages v5.2.2, or v5.5. If you want the images from the PDF, then export it from Preview as PDF, and then drag/drop onto latest free LibreOffice icon in the Dock, which will open the PDF for editing. Select, copy, and paste the images into Pages v5, or incorporate into Text boxes, or Shapes. When pasted, images will be in their original size/resolution, not necessarily as small as they appear in the PDF.
If the second paragraph is a chore, then follow Peggy's advice above on the sources for purchase of Pages ’09.
In the future, I would not recommend trusting document architecture to Apple, and use a more accessible format (.doc/x) for better cross-platform access, longevity, and application choice. You may find LibreOffice, or Office for Mac 2011 a better choice for features.

Bought new MAC desktop tried to open old Ipages and I get this message, what do I do now?

    Thanks

If you migrated your old system to the new Mac you should still have Pages '08 in your Applications/iWork folder.
Open your document in Pages '08 and Export it to Word .doc/.docx and open that in Pages 5.

  • Will Lion open Appleworks documents with Pages or Numbers as Snow Leopard does?

Will Lion open Appleworks documents with Pages or Numbers like Snow Leopard does? Or do I have to convert all my Appleworks files before installing Lion?

Functionality of Pages and Numbers has little to do with whether it's runnong on Snow Leopard or Lion.  Either way, if they open an AppleWorks document in SL, they'll open it in Lion.  Of course, you have to understand that certain file types - particularly, AppleWorks databases - cannot be opened with anything other than AppleWorks, so you'll need to convert them with AppleWorks before upgrading to Lion.

  • I can not open completly a  word document with pages - it gets cut at page 116

if I open the same document with Word for mac i can review the 265 pages - but if I opent it wih pages it gets cutted at page 116

There is probably a table at 116 that has cells that spans over more than one page. Pages can't breakt text withina table cell,.Only between rows.
You can try to change the paper size in Page Set Up to something much longer, to being able to the the content

  • I created a document with pages. the documetn was stored in the Cloud. Now I can't open it anymore!

Yesterday I created a document with pages. The documetn was stored in the Cloud. Today I can't open it anymore! According to the help info I need a new version! 'You need a newer version of Pages. You can download a newer version at the Mac App store'

What version of Pages are you using on your Mac. I note you have a mobile device do you use pages there, have you opened the document from there, if so what version of pages are you using on the mobile.
Do you perhaps have both versions of pages on the Mac and are simply trying to open it with the wrong one (the older one)

  • Can't open a Word document in Pages '09

Alright...I have tried to search the forum to see if someone is having the same problem but I haven't seen any. I cannot open a word document in pages. at all. Just says "The document “filename.doc” couldn’t be opened."
    Any suggestions?

This was one of the first symptoms of "un-updated" Pages in Snow Leopard. Once again, here are the two things you may not have done that fix quite a few problems in Snow Leopard.
First, use the Mac OS 10.6.3 combo updater. This fixes a problem with the Hoefler Text font that is not fixed using the delta update (10.6.1 > 10.6.2).
Second, make sure your iWork applications are updated. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.3 & Numbers 2.0.3. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • When I open a new document in Pages, the text I type is white on a white background even though the default color is black.  Can someone help?

When I open a new document in Pages, the text I type appears white instead of the default black color.  I can highlight the text, once I find it, but it will not change to anything other than a light purple.

Those are the symptoms many users ran into with an early update to Snow Leopard that never was fixed in the updates available through Software Update & not having the iWork apps updated. The problem was not whether or not your system is the current version but how it got there. You must use the combo updater, not the one from Software Update unless it specifically states it is the combo. Software Update will only offer the combo if your system is two or more versions behind. Now that you're running Lion, this generally isn't a problem.
But making sure the iWork apps are updated is essential. If you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • Can't open Apple Works docs in Pages

Strange, but: The 1st day I used Pages I could open Apple Works and Word docs
just fine. The 2nd day trying to open Apple Works docs resulted in
the message: "Import Error- the Apple Works document has an unsupported file type"
Word docs still open OK. Anyone?

To save as a "newer" AppleWorks file (i.e. AppleWorks 6 file format), you'll need to have AppleWorks 6, which will open older file formats from version 5 and then give you the option to save the as version 6 files.
However, your friend will not be able to open these AppleWorks files with Pages: as Peggy and others have pointed out on numerous occasions, Pages can only open AppleWorks word processing files (and even in this case, there are restrictions; as far as I can remember, it will only open documents with floating graphics. Or was it the other way round, and it cannot open files with floating graphics? If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me, Peggy); it can't open spreadsheet files as iWork '05 doesn't have a spreadsheet program which could handle the data. I'd suggest finding someone who has AppleWorks 6 (anyone with a Mac mini, iMac or eMac), opening the files and saving them in a format which Excel can read.
