Opening .CR2 files in Elements 10

How do I access the
'Camera Raw Dialog box?"

Hi,
Yes, the T4i requires Camera Raw 7.1 which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 10.
The DNG converter is the way to go if you don't want to upgrade your version of Photoshop Elements.
The one thing to watch out for when using the converter is that you give it a folder name not a file name. The following tutorial may help if you have problems.

  • Cannot open CR2 files in Elements 7

    Hi,
I'm trying to open CR2 files in Elements downloaded from my Cannon 50D camera. Message says it's the wrong type of file. I've updated all the plugins, downloaded 5.4 and follow as many forums as possible but still no luck.
    Can anyone please help?
    Many thanks
    Mark

Where do you get the error message?  When you import a raw file into the Organizer, or when you try to edit it?
In the Editor, do Help > System Info.  What is the version shown for "Camera Raw"? Is more than one version shown?

  • Can't open cr2 files in Elements 11 - win 7 64 - canon eos M2

I can't open my cr2 files in Elements or in Corels Aftershot Pro2. They open in Canon's digital photo pro but that's not much help.
    Any ideas?

"As has been stressed before," - but not to me and I never imagined that there was any "present converting software that can edit the raw files from cameras which will be issued tomorrow". What I did imagine was that old software is updated to include newer and newer cameras and this seems to be the case.
It's in my first post : "Since each new camera model has its own raw format," but I admit that the camera raw format is totally counter-intuitive, which explains why this questions is the most common in the Adobe feedback forum: Photoshop Family Customer Community.
The technical problem is that the ACR module is not totally an independent module you could update without updating the whole Elements version. If you look at the list of required ACR version for different Elements versions, you can see that the ACR version may be updated to a certain point, but that may depend on your OS version. Adobe's solution with the DNGconverter has pros and cons. It's an additional step, yes, but when you deal with large batches, it's less of a problem. Also some may find the DNG conversion useful. My raw files are 32 GB, when converted to DNG they are reduced in size and the time to open them is reduced. I like the ability to 'lossly compress' them, which is a much better solution than saving to jpeg.

I have a canon T5, it records .CR2 files for RAW. Photoshop Elements 11 won't open .CR2 files. I downloaded update 7.40.137 but that doesn't help. What do I do now?

  • Cannot open CR2 files in Elements 8 or Bridge

Hi, I hope someone can help me! I shoot in RAW, and have always edited my pictures in Camera RAW via Elements 8. I recently upgraded my old Dell to a new Mac, and now I'm having trouble. I cannot seem to open the RAW files in Elements, this is what I get when I try to open a file with Camera Raw (I know it says Photoshop Raw, but I do have Camera Raw selected):
When I try to open a RAW file in Adobe Bridge, it's not even an option, it's grayed out. BUT, it will let me open jpegs in Camera Raw in Adobe Bridge! So confusing. So far I have tried updating the Camera Raw plug in. I followed the directions exactly, but no dice. When I look at the "about plug in" section on PSE, it shows that it is the updated version, 6.2.0.29. But when I look at a jpeg in Camera Raw through Adobe Bridge, it says Camera Raw version 5.0.
Any ideas? I have a camera full of RAW files waiting to be edited and I'm so frustrated. Any help will be much appreciated!

You can update ACR in PSE i farther than you can update ACR in bridge (adobe cut bridge off as soon as CS 5 came out, but PSE 8 got a few more updates).
You don't mention the camera model.Photoshop raw and camera raw are two different things. How are you opening these files? You do know that you don't need to mess with the format section of the open window? Just select the file you want and it will set itself to the right format for you, so ignore that.

  • Unable to open CR2 file in elements 11

Everytime I try to open a CR2 file i get an error saying
"could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.  Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional info."
I am shooting with a Canon 6D and Canon 60D so I know the camera models are supported.  I have already updated to the 7.1 version of Camera Raw.
I have been trying to look for solutions for about two weeks now with no success... PLEASE HELP!!!

Make sure you're online with a good connection, open PS 11, click on the Help menu and select "Updates.." on the bottom.  The rest should be automatic.  It should upgrade you to 7.4.

  • I cant open CR2 files in elements 8

I have a new Canon 60D so excited until I go to edit my pics and itsays PSE8 does not recognise the CR2 files please help

If that camera is a new model, it migh not be supported as a RAW file in PSE8.
The latest version of Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) that's useable in PSE8 is version 6.2.
Here's a list of the supported cameras and the version of ACR needed:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
If your PSE8 can't use the appropriate ACR version, use the Adobe DNG converter:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5375
to convert the CR2 files to the DNG format, which you can then use.

  • How to open CR2 files in photoshop elements 10

Who knows how to open CR2-files from a Canon Powershot S100 in Photoshop Elements 10?

    Hi,
The version of Camera Raw that you reported should support the S100 CR2 images.
If you load the editor, go to the File menu and select Open, then point to the file, are you saying that it displays the error message?
Have you tried opening the file with Canon's Zoombrowser?
Which operating system are you running on?

  • Photoshop Elements 10. Cannot open .cr2 files (Canon 650D)

Running win 7. Latest version camera raw is 6.7. It will not open .cr2 files from Canon 650d. Adobe says need camera raw 7.1 which supports 650d. Cannot update Elements 10 with 7.1 as it is not for this software.
How do i open cr2 files?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

  • How to open *.CR2 files from new 60D ??

My Elements 7 will not open or recognize CR2 files from my new 60D.  Nor will it allow me to open CR2 files in another format.  I get error messages saying they are "the wrong type of file" or that a codec is missing.  It opens CR2 files from my two Rebels just fine.  I have downloaded the most recent codec (1.7.0) I can find from Canon to no avail.  I downloaded a trial version of Elements 9 - same problem.  Am I doing something incorrectly?
    Thanks, JackM

Well, after downloading - and purchasing - PE9, and downloading ACR 6.2, am still having the same problem; not recognizing the 60D CR2 files.  I have actually downloaded the 6.2 several times, with and without unzipping and extracting files, to no effect.  I will try calling Adobe Monday to see what the heck is going on.  This is extremely disappointing.
I may have to resort to use DPP for raw conversion, save as a TIFF, then open in PE for editing (this does work).  If that's my only option, I hope Adobe will refund my purchase price.  I'll try to keep you updated on what happens.
    Thanks for your help.

  • CS3 not opening .CR2 files

I can't get either Photoshop or Bridge to recognize/open .cr2 files. I have Camera Raw pug-in 4.6 installed, fully updated CS3, Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and the pictures are taken with an EOS 7D. Can't get my head around what's going on here. The funny thing is that in Bridge pref the .cr2 format was listed as supported.
    Anybody got a clue?
    Best regards,

    bigusmacus wrote:
I'm Adobe's customer. Why wouldn't Adobe simply make Camera Raw compatible with earlier versions of CS? Can you give me a real clear and logical reason why?
Because that's not the way software is developed...the code for CS3 and CS4 is "old" meaning Adobe no longer is writing that code. The code base has been altered/changed by later versions. The SDK (software development kit) for Photoshop has changed...plug-ins that work for Photoshop CS5/5.5 are using the current SDK. Older versions of Photoshop have an older and in some cases, incompatible SDK.
For example on the Mac, Photoshop CS5 requires that the plug-in be written in Apple's Cocoa API. Camera Raw 5 required a major update to be able to run in Cocoa...retrofitting Camera Raw 5 to run in a PPC platform (supported by CS3 but not supported by CS5) would be difficult. As a result of the engineering challenges of backwards compatibility Adobe has the policy of only updating currently shipping software to current customers. Truth be told, you are not a current customer...you are a former customer. Having Adobe spend R&D on supporting former customers would take resources away from supporting current customers. As a current customer, I wouldn't like that.
Really, I think you have a problem of expectations...you buy a brand new camera that wasn't even around when you bought your software and you expect after several years that Adobe will re-engineer the old software for compatibility with your new camera? That's not a reasonable expectation. Since you don't really understand software development–as most people don't–I do as I develop plug-ins, I understand why you and many people just assume that Adobe is refusing to update old software as some ploy to make you upgrade your software. Yes, there is an element of that, but there are technical reasons why updating software for backwards compatibility isn't a good business decision.
You made the decision to upgrade your cameras, part of that decision should have also included updating the software to use that camera. You are welcome to use the Canon software–for free–to process your images in your older software. The other alternative is to use the free DNG Converter (which Adobe doesn't HAVE to provide, but does, for free). The other alternative is to upgrade your software, and yes, that comes with a cost. So did your new camera.
In point of fact, the advances to Camera Raw in particular are a strong reason for upgrading to Photoshop CS5/5.5. Call that an evil plot to force photographers to buy the upgrade, but i call is progress on the ability to get maximum image quality from your raw captures. I call that a good return on the investment.

  • I cannot open raw files in elements 10

i cannot open raw files in elements 10

The 650D wasn’t supported until ACR 7.2 that was released the beginning of October 2012.
Adobe only updates ACR for their current version of Elements, which is PSE 11, not 10.
So you’ll either need to update to PSE11 or use the DNG Converter 7.2 to convert your CR2 files to DNGs and open them in the older version of ACR.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106 <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows> &platform=Windows
Another alternative would be to get Photoshop Lightroom which doesn’t cost a lot more than Elements and will give you more raw processing capabilities, and you’ll still be able to do Edit in Photoshop Elements for any pixel editing with your older version of Elements:

  • I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.
