Opening CS5 BOOK to CS4

Hello,
I created a 188 page book in InDesign CS5, broken up to 4 documents....and my printer has CS4 and they are going to want the native files (or at least they have always asked for them before).....
I know that to open a CS5 document in CS4 I should export to a IDML file...But I never created a book for CS4...
I am a little nervous about simply converting each document to in my book to IDML because of the auto page numbering AND/OR the possibility of pages shifting (for example, pages that are supposed be on the right might show up on the left)...Will a CS5 .indb file open in CS4?  (I wouldn't think so)
Any advice to avoid formatting issues or layout problems?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot guys.....Actually turns out, our printer upgraded to CS5 three days ago...Which is good, but I agree that books can do wacky things....
So I will send PDF's in addition to the book.
Thanks again

  • I can't open CS5 documents in CS4

I can't open CS5 documents in CS4. I know I need to update my plugins, but when I go to updates it says there are none. I have a hardcopy of CS4, is there a way to download CS4 electronically so I can receive all the updates I need? I have no idea how to do this manually . . . or maybe I just need to upgrade to CS5?

Or else you need to update CS4 to the 6.0.6 patch...

  • Trying to open CS5 in InDesign CS4

I am working with another graphic designer and she saved her InDesign CS5 file as a InDesign CS4. When I tried to open it in my Academic version of InDesign CS4 version 6.0 I received the following error screen -
Any suggestions - How do I update plugins or tell whether they need updated?
When moving files from CS5 to CS4 - do you have any tips?

CS5 file must be exported to IDML which you can then open in CS4.
Don't expect the document to look the same as it does in CS5. Text will reflow and any new features will be lost or badly mangled.
In short, if you have to work with someone on CS5 you should upgrade.

  • Opening CS5 projects in CS4?

Im still using AE CS4 and I'm trying to work on a project with someone using CS5, but I'm unable to open his .aep. Is there a way for him to save his CS5 project so that it can CS4 can open it?

Sorry, there is not a way.  AE has never been able to do it officially.  There were hacks that worked sometimes in earlier versions, but not between AE 9 & AE 10.  AE 9 is 32-bit, and AE 10 is 64-bit, a very fundamental difference.
You would need your buddy to replicate his AE 10 work in AE 9, or you could import rendered files from your buddy.  But that's it.
How 'bout AE 10 & AE 10.5?  You can backsave from 10.5 to 10 as long as the project contains none of 10.5's new features like Warp Stabilizer.

  • Opening CS5 in CS3 outlines fonts COOP Heavy

Am preparing to update an agency from CS3 to CS5.5. Finding that saving a Illustrator CS5.1 files down to CS3 outlines one of the fonts that had appearance attributes(all from the top half Ilustrator Effects). They own the font, and I tried with both PDF On and Off(notice blue bubbles at bottom) and got outlined font for Coop Heavy.
As a test I set Coop Heavy all by itself on a fresh page, and it went over.
Anyone know how I can save  CS5 to CS3 and not get outlined fonts? Any tips for updating an agency to CS5.1 anyone has found?

I progressivley dummied down the logo, and it appears that offset path is one thing that causes CS5 to CS3 to outline type.
Anyone else out there opening CS5 files in CS4 or 3 and finding loss of editablility in files, or a solution for this? Prepress houses are always asking us to save down to CS3, so must be people who know more about this. When you place CS5 files in CS3 seems all font gets oultined. Anyone find any way to stop fonts getting outlined? Before I start rolling out CS5, I need to develop a plan to cause minimum interruption to workflow.

  • Opening CS5 files in Fireworks CS4

    Hi all,
I work at a web dev/design company, and we are very eager to upgrade to CS5. However, there are just two of us that use Fireworks extensively (and I mean, we both use it a LOT!). If we were to upgrade, we'd have to upgrade everyone, and this would cost us a bunch of $'s.
If we were to only upgrade 2 of our users from Fireworks CS4 to Fireworks CS5, would our colleagues be able to open CS5 files in FW CS4?
Has anyone had any experience with this?
    Thanks for any/all suggestions!

I just opened a small graphics file I created in FWCS4 in FWCS5 without any problems. It's possible that if your files use features that don't exist in CS4 you'll have problems opening them.

  • Open Flash CS5 file in CS4

    Hey all,
I think I know the answer to this, but ... Is there any way I can open a CS5 file in CS4? A designer I'm working with created some files using her CS5. She's on vacation for 2 weeks (so I can't have her edit or resend the files as CS4) and I just got an email that the client needs a couple tweeks and all I have is CS4. Is there any way (or any program) that can backwards convert a CS5 file?
    Thx.

If you had access to CS5 you could save as CS5 or save as CS4 (but not CS3 or below).  But opening a CS5 Flash file in Flash CS4 produces a "unexpected file type" error.

  • Opening a Flash CS5 in Flash CS4

    Hi everyone,
I just bought Flash CS5 for own computer. I already have CS4 on the computer at work. Unfortunately I get an error when I tried to open a CS5 project in the CS4 at work. My boss is unwilling to buy CS5. Is it truly so that you cannot open a CS5 project in CS4 or is there a way to adjust a project in both systems.
    Greetings,
    Mila

  • Opening an Illustrator CS5 document in CS4

I currently have Illustrator CS4. I am taking an online class and the lessons that were created for us were created in CS5. When I go to open the lessons in CS4, I get a message saying that the file was generated by a newer version of Illustrator and some data loss might occur if I import this file. When I click 'ok' an "open PDF" dialog box. (See image). The file that I am trying to open is NOT a PDF file, but is a '.ai' file. The files that I am trying to open also contain more than 1 artboard. The "open PDF" dialog box is making me choose which artboard I want to open but is not letting me open the 1 file containing the multiple artboards--therefore, I am never able to see all of the different artboards all at once. Can anyone help me figure out what is going on here?  Thank you
    Sheryl

Illustrator files can also be PDF files. When you save an Illustrator file you have an option to include a PDF file embedded in the Illustrator file; by default this is on. This PDF component is the data used when you rasterize the Illustrator file in Photoshop or place it in InDesign. When your version of Illustrator found it could not read the Illustrator component of the file because of version incompatibility it decided to open the part it could read: the PDF. Unfortunately, while a PDF can contain the full appearance of the Illustrator file, it cannot contain the full editibility of the file, as you have discovered.
You can download a 30 day demo of Illustrator. The demo is fully functional an not in any way crippled, apart from the 30 day expiry. So install it, open the lesson files, and convert them to CS4.

  • [Ann] Script to Open/Close Book Documents

.. Is this finally possible in InDesign CS6? (Along with Browse By Table and Find Backwards...)
If not, or it is but you are still on CS4 (as I am -- I didn't test on CS5, *way* too busy for that!), download the script "bookopenall.jsx" from
    http://www.jongware.com/binaries/bookopenall.zip
and place it inside a folder named "Startup Scripts", which you should create at the same level as the "Scripts Panel" folder (which is where your own scripts are). Restart InDesign, open a book, and you'll find two new commands in the Book Panel menu:
    "Open Book Documents" will open all of the book's documents;
"Close Book Documents" will... close all of the book's documents! (And prompt you when changed.)
    Useful? I should think so!
(Based heavily -- well, almost totally -- on Marc Autret's "FileCloseAll": http://www.indiscripts.com/post/2010/02/how-to-create-your-own-indesign-menus)

Title changed, as this sounded like a request. (Which it is, but it solves it right away as well.)

Fred, I'm on both -- but usually on Windows! Don't you just *hate* that workaround? First I have to select the top document, then scroll down the list and select the bottom one. One click too many and the list is de-selected, and you end up getting just one document opened. Annoying!
Besides, the same trick does not work for closing all book documents, does it?

  • Editing CS5 files in CS4

I started a project in CS5 and I now have to work in CS4.  I can't edit the files I have been working on because of the unavaliable capabilities.  How can I fix this problem?

So you already somehow opened the CS5 file in CS4?
Then look into the layers panel and see what you've got. Most probably it's either a group or a clipping path. Release it and then edit.
But you would be better off if you first used CS5 to save the file down to CS4 and then edit it.

  • Problem Printing Book in CS4

I created a book in CS4, which prints fine. However, if I add another document to the book, when I try to print, it goes through allof the machinations and then crashes, closing InDesign with a "serious error" just before it goes to the printer.

Is it any other document, or a specific document?
If it's a specific document then you should export that document to .inx by itself. Then open that file, resave it and try to add it again to the book.
If it's any document. Then create a new book file, add all the documents to it again and try to print it and see if that helps.
I have a feeling either the document you're adding is corrupt; or the book file is corrupt.

  • How to open CS5 project in CS3

    Hi All,
How can I open CS5 project in CS3?
    Thanks
    Shaul

    In theory you can't.
    Premiere is not downwards compatible.
Some have opened CS4 in CS3 or CS5 in CS4 with non or basis effects.
But you can always give it a try, make sure you have a backup

  • CS5 file in CS4

do i have to do anything special to open a file made in CS5 over in CS4? my laptop with CS5 only has a combodrive and the desktop with a superdrive only has CS4

There is no X-platform support for NCOR (Project) files. This is unlike the X-platform, and often version-to-version compatibility with PrPro PRPROJ (Project) files. In most cases, but with some exceptions, older version's PRPROJ files will Open in the newer versions, and usually X-platform.
Also, even on the same platform, there can be issues, and incompatibilities. I found that En CS3 NCOR (PC) files would open in my EnDVD 2.0, with some limitations, like no BD support in EnDVD 2.0. Do not know how far that compatibility might, or might not work. It would be a bit of a "crap-shoot," and I would not bet on it working, or working completely.
    Good luck,

  • Anyway to use CS5 project in CS4?

I'm basically in a position where I can't upgrade my laptop to a 64bit one with my current budget. Since Premiere and After Effects CS5 can't work on a 32bit system, is there any kind of workaround? Like maybe pulling CS5 files in CS4?

CS5 project files do open in CS4, relatively successfully. I wouldn't bounce back and forth between the two programs too often, though--you stand a pretty high chance of breaking the project with too many conversions. If you're doing it once or twice, you're probably OK; just make sure to back up your original project before doing anything.
If that doesn't work, you might also be able to export an AAF file from CS5 (Project > Export Project as AAF) and open that in CS4. Note that whichever method you use, if your edit is more complicated or uses a variety of effects, you're likely to not have everything make the trip.
