Opening CS5 in CS3 outlines fonts COOP Heavy

Am preparing to update an agency from CS3 to CS5.5. Finding that saving a Illustrator CS5.1 files down to CS3 outlines one of the fonts that had appearance attributes(all from the top half Ilustrator Effects). They own the font, and I tried with both PDF On and Off(notice blue bubbles at bottom) and got outlined font for Coop Heavy.
As a test I set Coop Heavy all by itself on a fresh page, and it went over.
Anyone know how I can save  CS5 to CS3 and not get outlined fonts? Any tips for updating an agency to CS5.1 anyone has found?

I progressivley dummied down the logo, and it appears that offset path is one thing that causes CS5 to CS3 to outline type.
Anyone else out there opening CS5 files in CS4 or 3 and finding loss of editablility in files, or a solution for this? Prepress houses are always asking us to save down to CS3, so must be people who know more about this. When you place CS5 files in CS3 seems all font gets oultined. Anyone find any way to stop fonts getting outlined? Before I start rolling out CS5, I need to develop a plan to cause minimum interruption to workflow.

  • Outline Font Too Heavy

When I convert text to an outline, the resulting text is heavier than the original text. I'm using Caslon Book and there isn't a lighter version of the face to start with. How can I get the outline to stay true to the stroke weight of the original text?

When your type is rendered it is hinted. This means the positions of the paths that define the letters are shifted slightly depending on the resolution of the device, whether that device is a screen or a printer. When you convert to outlines you are no longer working with text, so it is not hinted.
What is the end purpose of the Illustrator file? If this will be printed, then the hinting would likely make little difference. The more pixels (on screen) or dots (on a printer) used to reproduce the text, the less effective hinting is. Screens are much lower resolution than printers, so the lack of hinting makes a bigger difference on screen. Compare how the text prints at high resolution. You might also find an alternative to outlining the text.

  • How do I get all my files to open up in Cs5 not Cs3? File plugin problem

Keep getting error messages about plug-ins when trying to open up an InDesign file that wants to open up in Cs3 When I thought it should be opened up with Cs5.  It says that the worldready.rpln, dynamicdocuments.rpln, and conditonaltext.rpln are missing.  When I say just ignore then it gives me a really long list of things it is missing.  It says things like assignments.rpln, text.rpln, spread.rpln, master page.rpln, image.rpln, text attribbutes.rpn, generic page items.rpn.  I can't seem to change what opens the program either. I got the programs to open up in Cs5 if I went to open and then browse but then it couldn't recognize any of my fonts and put them to defaults.  I just had reinstalled everything to a new computer after my old computer crashed and I wondered if perhaps that had did something. Are there some type of setttings or plugs in I need to download or change?

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • CS5 crashes when checking fonts (Find Font) in document from CS3

A number of files and templates imported from CS3 work fine in CS5, but I have multiple multiple files which crash everytime the find font button is pressed followed by "find first".
Some of these files are a very simple template that contains few text lines and place holders.
Has any one else experienced similar problems?

I believe I have found a solution AND a possible cause of the problem of font searching causing CS5 to crash with the windows message "Indesign has stopped working".
The problem occurs when opening a CS3 file, even a very simple one and appears to be caused by CS3 listing fonts that are not actually used in the file. eg the default font.
I have found a solution that has worked so far for all my problem files...
    Solution:
Open the CS3 file in CS5
IMMEDIATELY export this file using the Indesign markup format (.IDML)
Open the IDML file and the spurious fonts have disappeared AND the file can now be edited without crashing.
    Hope that this assists others,
    Ian

  • How to open CS5 project in CS3

    Hi All,
How can I open CS5 project in CS3?
    Thanks
    Shaul

    In theory you can't.
    Premiere is not downwards compatible.
Some have opened CS4 in CS3 or CS5 in CS4 with non or basis effects.
But you can always give it a try, make sure you have a backup

  • Help Opening CS5 Indd in CS3?

    Hey,
so I work using both cs5 and cs3 but unfortunately when I tried opening one of the files i had created, it would not open in cs3... Is there anything I can really do to get this to work. Updating to CS5 on the other computer is not an option unfortunately.
    Thanks guy!
    Tyler

You need InDesign CS4 to open IDML files exported from InDesign CS5. InDesign CS4 can then export an INX file which InDesign CS3 can open. Do not expect a perfect translation. If you are haring files between these two computers then you are using a terrible workflow that will certainly cause nightmares for some people.
If you don’t have access to InDesign CS4, then just export your IDML file and contact someone here via PM (like me) and we can take care of it via email. Of you can post the IDML file online somewhere and paste a link into a new reply.

Hi, I have big problems since 2 weeks with outline, fonts, size in Ai CS6 : Numerical value are so big and I can't change it with smaller. Apparently Ai said me that comes from AiPrefs... Could you help me please.

    Pierre,
You may try the list and see how far down you need to go; you have probably been through 1) and 2), and 4) is both reversible and more thorough than 3); 5) is hardly relevant, so you may end up with 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Outline Fonts do not cut through tint panel underneath

Having completed the migration for our publication from ClarisWorks - which was just fine for 13 years - through AppleWorks (WEEPINGLY unrobust and erratic) to Pages, we now find that headlines set in Outline mode and positioned above a tinted panel,
*do not cut through the tint underneath*
and therefore those headlines look grey, instead of outlined white.
ClarisWorks outline fonts did, and splendidly. Even <spit> AppleWorks did. Pages, however, does not.
An Outline font should show the character in white, with a black outline. The white character should stay white when set over the top of a grey tinted panel.
The Editor is not happy about this. He is now wasting precious time in trying to make it work as it did using previous s/w.
Is there any way of making it work correctly? Or is the official line, with Pages, to just give up on outline font headlines and very very reluctantly change the design and go for solid black?
    Many thanks

To fill text with color, gradient, or image – with or without outline
In Pages, create text. Large and heavy. (About 72 pt.) Then: Print > Open PDF in Preview. Crop. (Not too tightly.) Save as PNG.(To Desktop.) Drag PNG into Pages.
Insert square shape. Drag and re-shape so that it is slightly larger than text. Then: Graphic Inspector > Fill > Color or Gradient.
Follow same procedure if you want an image instead of color or gradient.
Drag shape or image to cover text, send backward behind text (If edge of fill color shows, select and reduce size.). Select text. Select Instant Aplha. Click inside each letter.
To make text background transparent, Select All > Group, then Print > Open PDF in Preview. Crop. Save as PNG.(To Desktop.) Drag PNG into Pages. Apply Instant Alpha outside text.
For an outline or shadow, apply Stroke and/or Shadow at this point. (Use Graphic Inspector.)
Select text and drag corner to enlarge or reduce. To change only height or width: Metrics Inspector > uncheck Constrain proportions.

  • CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 Vista Ult64

CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Truetype and Opentype work fine. I have searched through all the forums here multiple times, but not found a solution. The only workaround I found was to manually put the font files in c:/ProgramFiles(x86)/CommonFiles/Adobe/Fonts.
When I put any font files in that folder, they show up in CS3 for use, but not in windows apps. I thought I would make a permanent work around by placing all of my uninstalled font files in that folder, then use suitcase to install them from there. That didn't work because EVERY font in that folder is available to CS3 and turned on. Do they get installed when you put them in there?? It didn't seem like they were installed, and windows apps didn't see them.
These are workarounds anyway. My main goal is to have suitcase work so I can organize my fonts efficiently. Extensis blames the font and CS3. I have read that there are adobe issues with other font management software as well as suitcase. Any help would be appreciated.

Got mine FIXED here is what i did:
    Windows 7 64bit SP1, CS 5
Postscript fonts (comprising of *.pfb + *.pfm files) did not show up in any CS5 app, but showed OK in Word, Excel, Notepad etc.
Tried  activating through Suitcase Fusion 2 and also through FontExpert 2009 -  but neither of them made the fonts visible in CS5 apps
    1) open Start Menu/Control Panel/Fonts
    2) on the sidebar there is "Font settings" item
    3) set the settings as i did
[    ]  Hide fonts based on language settings
[ x ]  Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced)
    FIXED mine,
now i can use Suitcase Fusion 2 to install any PFB/PFM fonts without any problems...
PLEASE IF THIS WORKED FOR YOU TOO, LEAVE A MESSAGE HERE SO OTHERS KNOW IF THIS FIX IS 100% WORKING

  • ID CS5 Reads CS3 as PDF's

Hi, when I try to open an Indesign CS3 file with CS5, it won't open.  It wants to read it as a PDF.  I try to select the CS5 as the program to open it, but it won't open. What can I do?
    Thanks,
    Barb

Windows 7, and yes CS3 did work.

  • Work flow issue (CS5 vs CS3)

We recently upgraded to CS5 from CS3.
After a new Incopy CS5 document is flowed in to InDesign CS5 we are having an issue opening that document again in InCopy CS5.  When double clicking on it on the server the default program to open it is InCopy CS3 even though no CS3 program has ever touched the document.
Is there a default setting that needs to be changed to make the default program CS5 Incopy?
    Thanks.

Try clicking on the the little hand icon in the top left hand corner of the CS5 Curves dialog - then you get an eyedropper for your cursor and as you run this over the image you will see the little ball move up and down the diagonal line in curves. To place a point on the composite RGB curve, simply click. To place a point on all 3  R,G, and B curves you Ctrl+Shift+click.

  • INDD CS5 to CS3

I've read the post on how to save from CS5 to CS4 and I've saved the file to a ".idml" file but cannot open it in CS3. We upgraded from CS3 directly to CS5, any suggestions on saving from CS5 to CS3? - Thanks

    You're SOL.
A hack to get from CS4 to CS2 was published http://indesignsecrets.com/double-downsave.php
I'd look into getting a version of CS4 really quick, but I would not expect it is available as CS5 has been released. A call to Adobe may be the only recourse. (Pack a lunch for that call)
Several persons here would save a CS5 inx or inml to CS4 and supply a CS4 inx for CS3, but that is going to be laborsome if you need to keep many files CS3 compatible.
From here forth, never overwrite your CS3 files, rename them soon, apply a write only attribute, whatever it takes if you will need compatibility.

  • Trouble with Opening CS5.5 docs

    Hi,
I've been working with ID forever, and for the first time I'm having difficulties opening CS5.5 docs on a brand new iMac runinng OS X 10.8.3.
It seems that when it does it's "checking" (for errors, missing fonts and links etc.) it keeps beachbaling. Then it looks like it OK, then it beachballs again. and again. and again.
Once (after 4-5 minutes [!] per file) the file actually opens, everything is quick and smooth.
Anybody have any ideas? It really bums out our workflow.
    Thanks,
    Dov

  • Re: Can't open CS5.5 in CS6 (branched)

(Branched this thread from Can't open CS5.5 in CS6)
I have the same problem. I've been working with CS5.5 for 1 year. Know, I've upgrade to CS6 and I can't open my CS5.5 files.
This files are mine (not of a partner), I've made it so I can't understand whats wrong. I can open some CS5.5 files.
I think it's an Adobe problem.
I'm gonna try to see what kind of fonts have my documents.

It's very difficult to get useful error reports under Windows.
Your report seems to suggest something to do with hyperlinks:
    Sig[3].Name=Nombre del módulo con erroresSig[3].Value=HYPERLINKS.RPLN
But it is hard to say.
If I try to uninstall and use the CS Cleaner tool?
Go ahead. It will not hurt. I do not know if it will help. But it will do no harm.
Can you export your CS5.5 file to IDML in CS5, and then open the IDML in CS6?
Can you try to narrow the problem? You can try working on a copy of the file in CS5.5 and deleting/removing parts until you can determine what causes the crash in CS6. You mention hyperlinks and cross-references, so they may be a place to start.
Can you share a file with us?

  • Outlining font with a stoke changes overall font thickness-Why?

I am working on a project that is being printed in Japan and we have to outline all the fonts in order to elliminate font issues. However, one of the fonts has a black outline and when I create outlines of this font headline, it changes the thickness of the font. I tried changing the stroke on the font before outlining it to the outside, inside and center and nothing is working. Any thoughts??

Let me get the predictable response out of the way. Every day I handle the most complex scripts - Japanese, while by definition "complex," is pretty simple in comparison to Burmese/Karen/vertical Mongolian/whatever. I never need to outline fonts, unless I'm dealing with someone whose print workflow is stuck in the early '90s. Do you really need to outline?
That being said, let's assume that yes, you actually do need to outline. (Faugh.)
However, one of the fonts has a black outline and when I create outlines of this font headline, it changes the thickness of the font.
Does it get heavier or lighter? Outlining destroys hinting (which can cause the text to look crowded), and causes the output to be a bit heavier. However, I think you're referring to the fact that when you convert text to outlines, you're losing the stroke that you've already applied, so it's actually lighter (less "thick?") than what you wanted. Can you clear this up for us?
