  • Opening .indd files in CS5 that were created in a newer version

I need to open .indd files in InDesign CS5.  Apparently those files were created in a newer version of InDesign, to which I do NOT have access in order to create legacy (IDML) versions of those files.  What is the "fix" for this issue?

I'm trying to create my organization's newsletter from .indd files that the previous editor created in a "free trial version" without also saving them as .idml files.  Now that version is expired and I'm not even sure what version it was, though I suspect it may have been CS6.  I was able to open an .idml file from another author that had been created in CS5.5 as I had access to all the links and fonts in the zipped folder.
So what you are telling me is that these files are useless to me unless I upgrade my InDesign version?  I don't have that kind of a "budget".

  • Opening cs6 files - colours have changed and bits of layers are missing

I have been working on a few photoshop files and I saved them last night as normal however when I went to open them this morning the files have bits of layers that are missing and some of the colours are different. However the content of the files are all still there.
Are these files corrupt? Or is there some form of setting that it has switched to?
Please see attached…. As you can see there is a bright blue colour, the sky background has cutouts missing etc
    thank you!!

Yeah, I know. Thanks. It doesn't prompt for any media though.
I've been enjoying the program for over 4 years. I have become reasonably adept for my needs. I had opened the files once before to do a similar update and there was no problem. Things are inexplicably just MIA and the software has no indication of their former existence. In fact, of the sequences still appearing that I had named, they have all changed to sequence 01. they contain fragments of the original material but nothing like the completed version I had created. hugely disappointing. But thanks anyway.

  • How to solve illustrator cs6 save as cs5 problem about the stroke(when the stroke with clipping mask and color is gradient, save as cs5 will change to embed ).

how to solve illustrator cs6 save as cs5 problem about the stroke(when the stroke with clipping mask and color is gradient, save as cs5 will change to embed ).

Because it was not possible to apply a gradient to a stroke in CS5. When you open the file in CS5, it is reduced to something that can be rendered in CS5.

  • Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map.

I had too much time on my hands yesterday and I decided to try to remove an unused kernel extension that I saw in my EtreCheck report. The kext was for the PACE iLok, for Pro Tools, which I no longer use. I found the item that was installing the kext and removed it, and EtreCheck reported that the kext was gone.
Some time after that I was troubleshooting another issue I have with Mavericks (shutdown time: my shutdown time with ML was almost instantaneous; with Mavericks, it takes about 12 seconds.), and I used the recovery partition and Disk Utility to repair my HD and permissions.
DU reported that my usual boot volume was OK, and permissions repaired on it without problems.
When I have DU look at the drive itself, it reported: Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map.
And then, in ominous red text: error: live file system repair is not supported.
I tried repairing again, and also got this message: The partition map needs to be repaired because there's a problem with the EFI system partition 's file system.
I tried a few things to get these error messages to go away. I booted with a DiskWarrior disk and it was unable to do the repair.
I did a little reading about the EFI partition, and in Macs it appears to be a partition related to firmware updates.
My mac has not had any symptoms at all during this, aside from the slower shutdown.
Even so, I did not like the idea of a partition that could not be repaired on my HD, so I did a clean install. Seemed to work, DU reported a healthy drive and volume.
This morning, as I was preparing for a TM backup, I ran DU again, and the error messages were back. Not good.
This time I tried TechTool, and it was able to repair the HD from the TechTool eDrive (TechTool's version of the recovery partition).
I've looked in these discussions and there are some mentions of these error messages, but usually in the context of failing hard drives or drives that must be erased and the OS reinstalled.
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me, what these error messages mean, why they are occurring, and if I can just ignore them. My internal HD is not a stock Apple drive, but a Samsung SSD that I installed some time ago, and which otherwise works fine. My current suspicions are that either:
there is something inherent in Mavericks that creates some problem with the EFI partition map over time, which then shows up in the error messages in DU
or there is some incompatibility with this SSD and Mavericks that creates the same error messages.

InDesign CS4 can open .indd, .indt  and .inx files from earlier versions, but not from later. It should, however, be able to open .idml files saved or exported from newer versions, with the understanding that unsupported features will be lost, text will probably reflow due to differences in texts engines between versions, and that the greater the gap between versions the more likely there are to be noticeable differences from the original. You will need to be sure CS4 is at version 7.0.6 to read the .idml.

  • Continually opening a file in a java display to read errors?!

    hello all,
I have what seems to be an easy task but hard for me. my question is, i am currently running a bat file that dumps all error logs into a error.log. what I would like to do is have my bat file also kick off a java program that reads the error.log file and print out the errors to screen? is there a easy way to do this? im thinking if this error.log file is being updated, maybe its locked, and that I wont be able to display the error logs sort of realtime right?
    suggestions?
    THANKS!

It's the file length you need to store.
Open the file up for the first time, read everything and remember its length.
Sometime later, check the file length again. If it's greater than the length you stored, open up the file, jump to the previous length, read everything from there up to the end of the file and save the new length. And repeat!
I wouldn't advise storing line numbers, since that doesn't translate into the file offset positions that Java needs easily.

    how do i open a cs6 file in cs5

    Very carefully.
Seriously, there are few things Photoshop CS6 does that Photoshop CS5 doesn't understand and in most cases the file should just open right up.  Are you having a specific problem?

    Hi codfather33,
Please downsave your Ai file from AICS6 to Illustrator CS5 version and then open this file in AICS5. This would ensure that any content is not dropped or expanded unwantedly.

  • Open or convert CS6 file to CS5 without CS6

    Hi,
I need to open a CS6 file and convert it to CS5 but cannot as I DO NOT have CS6 trail anymore, just CS5. Is there away I can email my file over to Adobe to convert my file and get it sent back?
    Regards,

No, but I'll convert it for you, or you can download a CS6 trial and do it yourself.

  • Having problems opening IDML file in CS5

    Hi Everyone,
    Can someone offer some assistance?
My colleague is on CS5.5 and i'm on CS5. She created an IDML file of a document we're working on and i've tried to open it. However when opening it, it freezes at the same point everytime.(when importing links) The only way i can get out of InDesign is through Task Manager. Any help would be appreciated.
    Chris.

First thing you need to do is empty the InDesign Recovery folder in case your forced program termination has left you with corrupt data that ID is trying to recover each time it starts up. By default the Recovery folder is in the same directory as your InDesign SavedData file, but the location is changeable in the application preferences. If you haven't deliberatley moved it, you'll find the location information to find it in the post about resetting prefs here: Replace Your Preferences
Now on to whether the file will open. It sounds like ID is looking for links in a location that is inaccessible. Open ID without attempting to open a file and Edit > Preferences...  Go to the File Handling tab and uncheck the boxes to check and relink when opening a file, then try to open the .idml. I would wait up to 15 or 20 minutes before presuming the file is damaged -- I've seen strange things where users have done stuff like embedded hundreds of images, and it ust takes a long time to parse the file sometimes.
If it still won't open, it's most likely damaged. Ask your colleague to send it to you again, but to zip it first for protection in transit.
